Neil looks like Nathan

His eyes his face his good looks he hates it. Even seeing his own face in the mirror years after butchers death Neil can't hold Nathaniel's gaze. It's not his face. The scars help a bit he won't admit but it's the reason he never got them removed. They put distance between him and the man who will always haunt him. Neil does not like being in media. He is scared to find out that people put those pieces together to see his picture next to butchers with *it was obvious* written all over it. Because it is obvious and he hates it so much he needed Andrew to promise he would never look up pictures of Nathan. Neil could not live with knowing Andrew can see the butcher any time he looks at Neil. But Andrew saw picture of Marry and every day before they sleep he would touch his lips his face- not his scars and tell him every little detail that makes him look like her.

Когда Эллисон пришла в их комнату и пафосно объявила, что на Новый год они все едут в один из отелей их семьи, которой находится где-то в горной местности, Ники буквально взорвался пузырящимся счастьем, начав носиться по комнате, восклицая, что точно все поедут.

— Нет. — просто сказал Эндрю, продолжив курить в окно, не замечая больше назойливой болтовни кузена.

Тогда Ники подкрался к Нилу, пытавшемуся доделать следующий план тренировок с Кевином.

— Ники, он сказал нет. — произнес Джостен, не глядя на Хэммика.

Конечно, Ники это не остановило: он очень красочно и подробно описывал, как им всем там будет здорово. Не забыл упомянуть, что у них наверняка будет отдельная комната, как и в прошлый раз, и это приключение будет одним из лучших воспоминаний для Нила.

В тот момент Джостена это не волновало, но сидя через два дня на крыше и куря последнюю сигарету на двоих, он подумал, что и правда было бы чертовски ново и хорошо испытать все то, что описывал Хэммик.

— Слишком громко думаешь. — Эндрю передал сигарету в замерзшие пальцы Нила.

— Ники сказал, что там можно будет сидеть на кресле и греть ноги о камин. — мечтательно произнес рыжий, и снежинка упала ему на нос. Он замерз и поежился, Эндрю, заметив это, как бы невзначай подвинулся ближе, забрал сигарету из его пальцев, потушил о бетон крыши, а потом потянул встать и уйти обратно в тепло.

Тогда он ничего не сказал. Поэтому Нил был немного ошарашен, когда Хэммик удивился, что Нил не собрал до сих пор сумку, когда им завтра всем уезжать.

— Сумку? Ники, мы с Эндрю не едем. — хмурится Нил, ставя на паузу игру, которую разбирал для вечерней тренировки с Дэем.

— Вообще-то Эндрю сказал, что вы летите с нами. - удивился тот.

— Отстань от Нила, его сумка уже собрана. — бубнит откуда-то сбоку идущий мимо Миньярд. У него в руках ведерко с мороженым и Эндрю деловито падает на диван рядом с Джостеном.

Ники и Нил переглядываются, но больше эту тему не развивают. Лишь перед сном рыжий спрашивает:

— Но ты же не хотел?

На это Эндрю пожимает плечами, продолжая чистить зубы.

Дорога оказывается длинной. Миньярд вцепляется пальцами в подлокотник кресла, когда самолет взлетает. Нил мягко переплетает их пальцы и шепчет на ухо разные глупости, пока Эндрю не отпускает и он не отталкивает его смеющуюся мордаху.

Ники был прав, место оказалось волшебным. В горах, украшенное гирляндами, с призрачным ароматом горячего шоколада и небольшими заснеженными домиками.

Монстров поселили в одном домике. И если Аарону, Кевину и Ники нашлась комната с разными кроватями, то Нилу и Эндрю досталась с одной, поэтому Джостен гадал, получилось ли это случайно или Эллисон устроила всё специально?

А дальше его ждала парочка незабываемых дней с шампанским, настольными играми, катанием на лыжах, а самое главное — вечерними посиделками с Эндрю у камина. С ленивыми поцелуями в одной кровати по утрам и горячим сексом ночами.

Потом рыжий отдельно поблагодарит Рейнольдс за самые лучшие зимние каникулы в его жизни, а пока он лишь крепче прижимается к теплому боку Эндрю, которого Рене все-таки нарядила в уродливый рождественский свитер.

Они смотрят на то, как огонь лижет бревна и слушают треск дерева.

Идеально.

You know what I always think about. Neil learned German in three years. In the books he said that he spent three years in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and my German ass is like ???? So here are my thoughts about that. Yes, Germany’s and Austria’s mother tongue is German but Switzerland? It depends on the region because Switzerland has a German, Italian and French region and even if it’s the German, most Swiss speak “Schweizerdeutsch” (swiss german) which most native German speakers don’t understand or only partly (me included). ((Though, I have to add that Swiss’ speak Swiss german but they also speak “Hochdeutsch” (high german) which is the German you would learn in school)) AND the Austrians have a really heavy dialect which is also really hard to understand, even for native speakers. Also we have in Germany about 30+ dialects and I just imagine Neil speaking with a wild mix of everything. But now, here comes the worst.

Stuttgart is in Baden Württemberg (on of our states) and they speak SWABIAN (Schwäbisch) {If you are interested/curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpEimFXYqTs&ab_channel=EasyGerman it has English subtitles.

That means that at least Erik speaks Schwäbisch. And I can only imagine the confusion Andrew and Aaron had when they met him, told him that they can speak German and Erik started to talk in his dialect.

And since Neil was in these three countries he probably spent most of his time in the South of Germany which means he probably has a wild mix of Schwäbisch, Baverian and High German. Which also means he understand every single word Erik says and Nicky is really jealous because he still has problems with that. I also want to add that Neil is so fucking smart that he could learn a language like German in three years with probably so many different dialects thrown at him

I would like to recommend the works by KathrineJ, specifically the 'Sometimes to run is the brave thing' series, which is a really heart-breaking take on what would happen if Neil ended up becoming a raven after staying at Evermore for xmas. It's 2 parts, with one part being Andrew's POv and one being Neil's. Loved Jean in this too!!

It has been years since Neil disappeared in the night, only to reappear the following semester on the starting line-up for the Ravens, the name Wesninski painted across his back. A chance encounter at a Gala leads Andrew to believe there might be more to the story of Neil's defection than what they'd been led to believe. - In which Neil would do anything to protect his family. If protecting them meant he could never go home again, so be it.
