Hi Guys,

I notice another interest thing about some of the Reverse Harem theme Anime(s). Aside from Riri the magical wizard from Romantic Killer a few other animes also have their own little friend who would support the heroine.

Like Juli the squirrel in Brothers Conflict. Unlike Riri, Juli isn’t there to assist Ema in helping her find a boyfriend but serves as a guide to protect her from her step brothers who all develop feelings for her. And would at times attack them and call them names.

There is Melissa in Play of Gods. Melissa is a doll-like figure created by the king of Gods Zeus and serves as a guide and at time offer a shoulder to cry on for Yui.

There is also Loewen who start off as loyal dog a Pomeranian. But looks can be deceiving Loewin would later transform into human named Roen. Unlike Riri or Juli his loyalty lie with the devil Lord Maksis and would sacrifice anyone (include heroine Ritsuka) to help his master regain power.

Now you can see Riri isn’t the only magical being that either helps or doesn’t help our heroine/anti-heroine. They all show where their loyalties lie with either their heroine or with others.

Oh you got me at the height of my existential crisis so it's hard to say what is hyper-fixation, and what is just coping with life.

So I recently binged (twice) CJ the X's youtube channel. I think their video essays are the best ones right now at the intersection of art and philosophy and just... idk life?

Another youtube channel I love and found recently was antiheroines which is exactly what it says it's about - anti heroines in films and books.

I like reading the Dirt newsletter because they are not a content farm but write about interesting shifts in internet culture and how it affects the overall culture.

I just read Sharp Objects and rewatched the TV series... both are perfect.

I don't know what else, I'm just a blob traveling through time on this rock we call earth :)

I saw this article calling Sasuke a Villain and how the live-action shouldn't include his "villain" arc, because it "felt tedious and too convoluted to the bigger narrative" and instead they should make him a pivot for the fight against the Otsutsuki...

Did this person watch the anime or read the manga?

Article from CBR, Title: The Naruto Live-Action Movie Doesn't Need To Adapt This Villain Arc

1. Protect Konoha from what? The Uchiha wanted to end the discrimination and oppression they were facing at the hands of the higher ups... (Not to mention that when Kurama attacked the village (under genjutsu, when Naruto was born), and during the konoha crush, no other villages went to attack the Leaf after the events)

2. Most people would hate growing up alone, and why was that sentence in bold?

3. Sasuke didn't find out about the true reason Itachi did what he did, until after Itachi died, as well as the real reason behind said Coup... as far as I am aware. And why wouldn't he want revenge against Konoha (specifically the 3 people who are left that caused all of his trauma and the uchiha genocide, it'd be 4 but the Sandaime Hokage was already dead by this point in the story)

4. What "wars" against Madara and Obito? There was only 1 War against them, the 4th great ninja war, that lasted 2 days a.k.a. approximately ~212 episodes, including filler (volumes 55 through 59 in the Manga, according to google)

"Naruto and Sasuke were reincarnations of her sons (Ashura and Indra, respectively)"

Okay, so the author didn't watch nor read Naruto...

Indra and Ashura Otsutsuki are not Kaguya's sons... they are her grandsons 👁️👄👁️ Homura and Hagoromo Otsutsuki are her sons...

I feel like the author doesn't know much about Kaguya either, if they did they'd know her story.

"The advantage of Sasuke being a rebel without defecting from Konoha is that Naruto would have the help needed to fight the big villains of the franchise: the Ōtsutsuki."

When the time came, was Sasuke not helping Naruto with that? 🧐 And why shouldn't he had defected from Konoha? What good could they do for him?

Why does Sasuke need to be convinced to return home, when his home was taken from him by this "home" the author speaks of, that "home" being Konoha? Why should he return to the place that treated his people so poorly that they felt they no other choice but to do a coup against the people in charge of Konoha only to be wiped out for daring to stand up for themselves after years of oppression...?

Konoha, specifically Danzo, the third hokage, and 2 hogake advisors, forced Itachi to wipeout his whole clan, excluding Sasuke, and then blamed him for it. They swept what they did under a filthy rug, that already had many skeletons piling up, and acted like he was the most evil person... He was a child and he was forced to do that and to become a fugitive by the old people in charge, who had no business being in charge of Konoha since there should've been a 5th Hokage by then... (regardless if Itachi regretted it or not, which he never really does)

I won't say it...😇

1. While I do agree that Naruto should've learnt more of the Uzumaki (and the Namikaze), besides finding out they excelled in Sealing Jutsus, had very long lives and were a bit savage (it wasn't in-depth at all, and there is no one to teach him, since the Uzumaki are also victims of genocide (in which Konoha did not help protect them) and well, I don't know what happened to Minato's people)

2. And that Sasuke should've learnt more of his people (but how was he going to, when he was the only one left at age 7/8?)

3. Indra's dark side... it wasn't passed down, nor did it emerge until his father gave his little brother the title of successor and expected him to follow without questions, having his birthright taken away because he was more introverted than his little brother whom their father called "the flunky useless dropout younger brother" (according to a panel I saw). And implied, at least to me, that ninjustu was created for wars and all things evil (Indra created ninjustu when he was just a child). ah yes his dark side the Uchiha inherited, that darkness of wanting to be treated like people and with respect in the village they helped make.

4. Kushina calls the Uzumaki, among other things, a bit savage. Batsuma Senju punched Hashirama for being angry/sad that his little brother died, saying he was disrespecting his brother (and him) by basically questioning the system. Tobirama is a Senju, who was not shy about his hatred and prejudice against the Uchiha Clan (he is after all the founder of the bigoted psuedo science that was the "Curse of Hatred" the Uchiha are supposedly afflicted by, a clan that according to him is cursed and called Sasuke "a brat possessed by Uchiha evil") and that's on Ashura's "light" that gave way for his descendants, the Uzumaki and the Senju, "a clan of love~"🥰

Right, because he wasn't a pivot to the story, nor did his and naruto's story have any "heart and impact"... Right...

At some point, I wonder if some of this article is just satire 😅

Okay, okay, midnight fuckin furious time, the RoP finale, the "made you my queen" saurondriel bullshit, let us talk about how fuckin misogynistic and totally disrespectful to how tolkien portray his female characters.

So. On first look, it actually sounds like Tolkien right? They even use the exact same line from FoTR, right? (instead of the dark lord you would have a queen, stronger than the foundation of the earth bit)

but it is so not. Why? Because RoP galadriel didn't say that line. Sauron fuckin did. In the book, that whole scene of her resist the temptation of the ring is a show of her own ambition, how she fight her own demon, and how she reject that demon and chose true wisdom. But in RoP, it is all the man' wish, it has nothing to do with her, "I alone can see you greatness!" I puke at that line, Amazon i sincerely ask you do you know who galadriel is???? The fairest of the house of finwe, the one with the greatest achievement among the noldor except feanor, the lady of light, and you think she needs sauron to tell her her greatness, her value, her potential??????? Also, in the book, her ambition is to be her own queen, not sauron's queen, i don't need to tell you the big difference between a queen regnant and a queen consort right?????

with this plus the show's beginning with her character's initiative changed from "to rule a land of her own" to literally pointless vengeance for Finrod (hey dude is literally walking peacefully with their father in valinor why would he even need that), the two writers(some context: they are devout mormons.) took away all that made galadriel unique and great, and the approach itself is extremely misogynistic, also the change of the role of being seduced by sauron from Celebrimbor to galadriel, shows that they can't bare the tiniest hint of homosexuality (context again: they are mormons), and the impact of this change kinda make you feel like: omg it's all the woman's fault! If she hasn't stir things up everything will be fine! No? Just me? Really? (ps i don't even want to talk about the female elves maidens whose heads are entirely covered serving in silence)

When I see people making entire posts and articles to defend the nice romantic interest in the love triangle where the heroine finds herself, with a villain / anti-hero, who also loves her, to explain that in fact morally the guy nice is more fair and normal and that the mean guy who is creepy and we shouldn't prefer him to the nice guy...

I always wonder what is in these people's heads.

Like... they think we're stupid ? That we are not able to see that the guy coding as a villain / anti heroes is problematic and sometimes downright creepy ? They really think they're teaching us the truth about the world with this kind of moralistic explanation / defense about a character who in the real world would actually be considered romantically good ? These people really have a problem with the difference in interpretation between reality and fiction ?

There's a very simple reason why in fiction, we sometimes prefers men with problematic traits. Because they are simply interesting. Especially compared to the normal guy the heroine will end up with.

Fact : Being a boring character in fiction is worse than being a character capable of murder.

And don't make me say what I didn't say. There are some very nice and very interesting characters in fiction too. Like Stiles from Teen Wolf or Peeta from The Hunger Games. They are simply written as real characters. And not just nice guys supposed to be a fairer path for the heroine to follow. They are interesting and convincing. Which sometimes “nice men” in love triangles just aren’t.

And sometimes there are villains who are not interesting because they have no characteristics other than wickedness or other negative aspects that can disgust us. A villain will often be appreciated for his intelligence and or certain human qualities that make him more complex than simply being evil.

So obviously, we're going to prefer this type of character for a ship, instead of the normal type who narratively barely contributes anything, and is barely a character at all.

And we're not even going to talk about the cases where the character supposed to be the bland nice man actually turns out to be a bigger asshole, objectively speaking and in reality, than the villain / anti-hero of the love triangle. Right, Malyen Oretsev ?

Anyway this is a post made out of the blue where I simply wrote down my thoughts as they came to me. I hope this is understandable. Anyway, these were my personal spontaneous thoughts. Don't hesitate to share your opinion on it.

What’s happened to Taiwanese BL lately? Apart from Kiseki which was amazing I haven’t liked any of Stay by my side, Be mine or VIP only (and the next one is about falling for a robot, wtf!) is it because these are all from the same company? Are any good Taiwanese BLs coming up that you know of? Please give me hope!

That said they have never had a very good batting average. It's what I'd call accurate... but not very precise.

Upper left: Thai BL

Upper right: Japanese BL, Vietnamese BL

Lower left: Taiwanese BL

Lower right (these days): Korean BL

To be fair Taiwan has always been this way. Not a lot of BL, and what little there is only one or two will hit home in any given year. It's just those home runs tend to be pretty darn spectacular.

They don't announce much ahead of time, like Japan, so the only thing I have on my radar as a definitely coming in 2024 is the robot one, Anti-Reset, and I don't have much faith.

In 2022 they announced God's Military Officer, which I was excited about. But that went nowhere.

In 2023 Pray in Love was rumored, which I find very intriguing.

And I'm hoping Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars gets made because it features adult characters and an interesting domestic-centered story premise.

But my most anticipated for 2023 from Taiwan was The Only One, because, well STEPBROTHERS TROPE. I'm thinking it's a Taiwanese version of Addicted, paused because of China's remake last year. But I'd WAY rather Taiwan tackled it so... this is the one I really hope actually does happen in 2024.

But anything announced for a year and then not made in that year I try not to get my hopes up.

my hot take on midnights: anti-hero sounds like the mother we share by chvrches (in a good way) i feel like every song sounds like something we already heard. in my brain this album has many layers (sonically) and they broke down midnights based on the mother we share. bejeweled HEAR ME OUT this song HAS to be sampled on wild heart by bleachers and sink in by amy shark which is part of the love simon soundtrack where jack was a music producer. there’s a part on snow on the beach right where the chorus starts and my ears could not help but hear the chorus of strawberries and cigarettes by troye. vigilante shit has the same beat as glory and glore by lorde. maroon is a sample of dress or maybe king of my heart?. lavender haze is the continuation of i think he knows. question…? starts with “i remember” from out of the woods. something tells me that taylor got some inspiration from the 1975s paris cause the concepts are very similar in both songs. like i said midnights sounds very familiar and i can’t quite place it but these were the songs and similarities i perceived

i loved midnights don’t get me wrong, i really liked this sound, she finally gave me pop. pop taylor is BACK. my favorites right now are
