Hey everyone! How are you all doing? So, I know it has been a long while since I last updated. Life had been really busy with n number of exams, mocks before the final medical entrance exam in July. After that I took sometime for myself to relax and do nothing. It's safe to say that studies are now the last thing in my mind as I enjoy this vacation after such a long time of not being able to take time for myself.

But soon, as my time at med school begins, I will definitely be a lot more active, get back on track with 100 dop and other such things and keep you guys updated with everything that happens in my life from studies to all things else. For now, I am waiting for the counselling to begin and for me to be alloted a college (which hopefully will be the one I really want to get into, fingers crossed🤞)

Anyways, thanks for being here and for all your love and support.

Hi everyone! I'm a few months late to the studyblr intro party after lurking here for a while but nethertheless here it is. I am currently on semester break from university but I hope to start building this blog and creating some content related to studying and academia :)

okay i’m really sorry if you already did something like this…but do you have any advice on how to do proper research? i love writing essays and i’m thinking abt practicing doing research papers, but i don’t really know how? like i know you’re supposed to use sources that use .gov and stuff, but how do i find them?

Ok I’m just gonna do a quick version, but I’ll 100% do more in-depth if anyone wants!!

Quick notes: I know about arts and humanities, not STEM, so that’s what I’m focusing on. Also, I do my essays for fun when I have TIME (a rarity these days) so do as I say and not necessarily what I do lmao.

Start with what you know

I don’t mean topic-wise (tho that too). Wikipedia is not a source, but the reference section on a Wikipedia article can be a very good jumping off point.

Also, Google Scholar my beloved!

Newspapers are a good, reliable source. Even if the newspaper is utter tosh, it represents the views of its readership, and therefore can be used. You mention .gov, and yup! That too!

Oh and 12ft.io is my gift to you on this fine February day.

If you don’t know the names of the famous essays, you’re firing keywords into Google Scholar, and you’ll get some ideas!!

This is just off the top of my head bc I’m just doing a quick one considering it’s my birthday lol, but like I said, I will put more effort into this if you want!!

And as a last note: @apricitystudies shares her favourite essays etc every month!! So, depending on what you’re interested in, it’s useful to have some vetted by someone else lol

on the special occasion of finally completing 3 years here is a lil thank you post. I started this blog back in Jan 2020 at the same time I started bujoing and decided to share my progress here as I was very inspired by the whole community and I am still touched by how welcoming and sweet everyone was to me. I have met some [hopefully] lifelong friends, had some of the best interactions and got to know the kindest people here.

Tumblr always felt like a home to me, there’s a strange comfort here, and even after 3 years the community hasn't changed much. Of course, I miss some of my beloved that aren't super active lately but just going to their accounts and revisiting the memories feels so intimate. I have sure made great memories here so just a little thank you to everyone who has ever interacted or sent me kind words with or without anon, everyone who has sent me moon pictures saying “it reminds me of you” have checked on me during exam season or left encouraging tags on reblogs, younger tumblrinas who said they want to journal like me, i truly love all of you! Probably my favourite news story this month has been about this radioactive capsule that's missing somewhere between Perth and Newman in Western Australia (a distance of around 1200kms and a lot of it is fairly isolated). It's about the size of a 10c piece and fell off the back of a truck, I'm not even joking but if you want to read about it for yourself:

1st March: What are your goals for this month? What's something you're looking forward to?

My goals for this month are to develop a proper and regular schedule, not skip meals or sleep because of assignments in college (which currently isn't a problem right now bc I'm living at home but might become a problem when I live in college), start working out regularly, submit all assignments early. Something I'm looking forward to is finally going to college in person!!!! I've been there once while we were dropping my brother off like 5 or sth years ago but that was a different part of the uni since he was in the aeronautical branch. I would love to see the architecture block and the studios and equipment and all of that! Also one of my best friends is going to be in the medical college at the University campus so I'll get to meet her there!!!!

Gosh its been just one week and we've already got so many assignments send help lmao. But yeah!! Day 1 of the march productivity challenge! I could participate in the February challenge very well because between getting covid, recovering, and then going to my cousin's marriage I legit did not get time to update anything lol. It was really good to see so many people participate in it though!!! I'm glad to see people enjoyed it and I hope everyone will enjoy participating in this month's challenge as well!!

How Ikea is tied to illegal logging

Okay, this was an article I didn't expect to read, but it's really good if you're interested in sustainable timber harvesting and FSC certification.

Some highlights:

Romania has heaps of old growth forest and a lot of it is being logged illegally

Ikea is the biggest consumer of wood and Romania's largest private landowner

Ikea sources its wood through contracts - this allows the company to keep its distance from illegal logging (while still benefitting from it).

Contracts typically state that a certain amount of wood must be supplied—so contractors supply it whatever the environmental cost

Also many contractor companies (that have illegal practices) supply wood almost exclusively to Ikea (like >90%)

Ikea relies on FSC certification to market its sustainable practices. But FSC relies on independent auditors to give their stamps of approval - and all logging operations need to do is to shop around for an auditor willing to give them the stamp

Ikea is also a founder of the FSC council

Ikea claims that they don't tolerate unsustainable logging practices, yet it sources heavily from areas in Europe that have high rates of scandal and corruption

Many activists, journalists etc. trying to cover this issue are attacked, assaulted or murdered by loggers and logging companies

Practicals went really well and I am quite happy that I could answer everything correctly and complete the works in time. My Biology practical went especially well. My teacher was very happy with the experimental results and I am so glad that I didn't make any mistakes as I did during the practice. All the stress was worth the relief in the end.

Today my goals were:

Give the Chemistry and Physics Practical Exams

Submit the journals

Prepare for the Biology Practicals

24th November:

Give the Biology Practicals

Relax

Day Eleven: What element do you feel most connected to and why? (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)

I feel the most connected to fire, because of how it is never steady and how it provides warmth to everyone around. I also relate to how sometimes, it takes a while to light the fire just like it takes me time to adjust to a new situation or begin again.

Day Twelve: Do you ever wish that you could go back in time and change something about your life? If you did, what would be different now?

I wish to change all the times I procrastinated and didn't do anything productive. I think I would have much less stress and worries now if I could change them.
