i was so ahead of the curve the curve became a sphere is literally me i skipped a grade and now my friends from high school are done with school and are getting their first jobs and stuff and i'm in school with people who were born two years after me. like i lost three full years lmaooo
#but i'm not that mad or sad about it because i don't mind not working like AT A JOB i'm even considering going into academia which would#mean even more years but like we'll see because i will have spent EIGHT YEARS in university when i'm done since it's five years to like. do#anything actually do something. only three more years to go yay#year 1: depressed year 2: not as depressed but i failed the classes i needed to pass to do the thing i wanted to be doing so i was kinda#stuck but i didn't know what else i wanted to study so i was like. i'll just do this get through my three years and then i'll do something#i like better. because i could have theoretically. except. i did not love it and i wasn't particularly good at it. also was still depressed#for like the entire first semester and my first year i passed for like my first semester so during my second year i had classes for year 2#during one semester classes for year 1 during another semester. it's actually easy but i don't know if that'll make sense the way i wrote#it. year 3 was 2020-2021 so covid and like i was saying the other day i was NOT working like i was kind of for the first semester but. oh#my god. my favorite class i learned like 60 pages like what we had to learn was 60 pages long and then you had to do like an essay or#whatever idk. no it wasn't even an essay but i czn't explain. i got like. a 3.5. OUT OF 20#so i was like yeah i'm not doing this anymore this is obviously not working for me so for the rest of the year (oh yeah we had class online#fully from november to well april when it ends) i was like. rewatching grey's anatomy and whatnot. that's when i rewatched grey's. also ahs#my not working semester in 2021 is also when i watched dawson's creek! because that's when they put it on netflix.#fun fact#good times honestly? but yeah#also i think about some of the things i learned a lot like it's very good to know i'm glad that i know it#i Am bitter but it's for other reasons#and like i say: brf slt#rory dropping out of yale is kinda so me if i had ever dropped out😁 which is why her graduating on time is very annoying and boring. her#ass should not have graduated on time...

i think reading the first three shakespeare henriad plays back-to-back-to-back has broken my brain for the last three months
#and i read shakespeare's book: the making of the first folio (2023) by chris laoutaris in between r2 and 1h4....#april may and june have been highly shakespearean months for me#i haven't read as much shakespeare in recent years as i had been when i first received the riverside shakespeare so i was feeling#some kind of way. wanted to make up for it.#i always tried to read at least one play a year#but now i have a problem. i've read 20 plays and 7 of the plays i have read are english histories#which is too high of a number for my liking. THE HISTORIES HAVE BROKEN MY BRAIN!!!!!!#tales from diana#i have only read five (5!!) of the proper comedies#7 comedies if you count romances as comedies#oh god. i need to do smth about that number#perhaps i should read a comedy before i go onto henry the fifth even though i reallyam looking forward to it....#that's like everyone's favorite play in the henriad seemingly#idk this series as been really good so far#i think richard ii might still be my favorite but henry iv part 1 had some really great moments too#henry iv part 2 was a bit slow in the beginning but it had a great ending#i also realized i haven't read a proper tragedy since 2020 lol. w king lear#i honestly barely remember king lear... i should watch a production of it soon#idk i read king lear in the beginning of the pandemic so that's fogged up w WEIRD memories and. idk#i should probably reread it someday but right now there's just so much else i want to get to read first#king lear wasn't my favorite when i was reading it but that might've just been. hard to get into bc of the state of the world#i did in fact read it bc shakespeare wrote it during the plague but. that was not of comfort. to say the least#i told myself i'd take at least a month after finishing henry iv part 2 to read other things that ive been slacking on#particularly other plays. i have a lot of drama i want to read that is NOT shakespeare. i do. i do have other playwrights i like#gonna start by reading some plays from my norton anthology of drama and just. kick back

@minnarr tagged me in this (uh, actually, for the record i think the tags didn’t work but whatever you mentioned me in the post and i saw it anyway lol) and i’d been thinking about it since i saw it on my dash anyway, so thank you!
List the first lines [i did sentences rather than trying to define a Line] of your last 20 stories. See if there are any patterns and choose your favorite opening line!
(do i remember what my last 20 fics were? NO so this should be really exciting. starting with the most recent and going in reverse chronological order)
The sun was warm on his face, even through the mask.
The room was dark, only the faint light of the fire in the brazier flickering off the dark wood of the furniture.
Jin Zixuan wakes up.
"You know you could still fuck me, right?" Wen Kexing asks one night as they're readying themselves for bed.
Opal wakes up.
"Lao Wen, what are you doing there?"
"...Run that by me one more time," Lando said.
It's a lovely day in Cloud Recesses, they're spared lectures for the day (supposedly to study and reflect on what they've learned so far, but even the Lans can't enforce rules for what they're thinking about), and so Nie Huaisang is reclining against a tree as far from the Lanshi as possible.
Wei Wuxian lay awake, the hard dirt beneath his back as he stared up at the stars.
Something was wrong, Dick thought frantically.
Yanli had known that she was to marry Jin Zixuan since she was very young.
It’s Cassie’s idea, but Kon’s the one who gets the most into it.
It would be cliche to say that the ship was quiet—too quiet—but that didn’t change the fact that it was too damn quiet.
“I’m sorry,” Wei Wuxian said.
The smell of the Pit hangs heavy in the air.
It’s not that Jin Zixuan is bored exactly, just that he doesn’t really know what to do at the lake.
When you were younger, you thought that temples were silent and imposing, but this one has open windows that let in the noises of the outside and bright stone that keeps the fading light of the evening.
“Babs.”
There was no light in the cell, but unfortunately Bruce had trained himself to register the passage of time without external stimuli.
“You know,” Clark says thoughtfully. “I spent some time in an underground fighting ring.”
lol this is TWO YEARS worth of fics holy shit. some things that jump out: the fact that i have TWO “[pov character] wakes up.” is hilarious, esp since i was writing them at the same time (in my defense, they’re both situations in which the circumstances of waking are somehow Shocking). i’m honestly surprised there aren’t more dialogue-first openings! obviously i’m very prone to ‘start with a sensory detail’ but i’m not mad about that, i like that as an opening quite a lot. the ‘here’s a thing, negate or contrast the thing’ pattern i am slightly mad about but i did know that was my fallback opening for a while.
as for my favorite, it’s hard to pick because there’s a few that i think do different things well, but i’ll go with:
It would be cliche to say that the ship was quiet—too quiet—but that didn’t change the fact that it was too damn quiet.
because i think it gets across the voice of the character really nicely and in a way that most of my openings don’t
i feel like everyone i would tag has already done this so i’ll just do @enter-remiges, for whenever you see this even if it’s in a couple weeks ☺️ (but also if anyone else wants to take this from me without being explicitly tagged, please do)

In September 2022, the Australian High Court upheld a law that effectively allows “preventative incarceration,” or the imprisonment of people even after their sentence has been served, based on whether or not a court thinks the prisoner might be at risk of committing a future crime.
Indigenous people make up 4% of the population of Western Australia, but 40% of the state’s prisoners are Indigenous.
At Western Australia’s Banksia youth prison, 75% of incarcerated youth are Indigenous.
Australia allows for the imprisonment of children as young as 10 years old.
---
Excerpt:
Tumblr media
Casuarina prison is a sprawling, concrete jungle on the southern outskirts of Perth, Western Australia (WA). It is a maximum-security, adult facility, home to people who may never leave its confines. However, on July 20, the penitentiary “welcomed” a new cohort of prisoners: 17 kids under the age of 18, who had been moved from the Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Center to Casuarina [...].
When current WA Premier Mark McGowan was elected in 2017, his Labor party promised to lower the rate of Indigenous incarceration in the state, which is the highest in the nation. First Nations people are 16 times more likely to be incarcerated in WA than non-Indigenous people, a number that has only risen despite the promise of the government.
Dr. Hannah McGlade, a Noongar academic and human rights lawyer, isn’t surprised by the state’s failure to uphold its promise. “Our government cares little for Aboriginal lives,” McGlade told The Diplomat. [...]
In the past month, the Australian High Court upheld a law designed to keep the worst offenders in prison indefinitely, even after their sentences have been complete.
Known as the High Risk Serious Offenders Act (HRSOA), the legislation was challenged in Australia’s apex court when Peter Garlett, a 23-year-old Noongar man, was imprisoned after stealing AU$20 and a necklace while pretending to be armed. Despite this being his first adult offense, when his sentence was up, the Western Australian government asked the High Court to keep Garlett, now 28, in prison.
The court agreed, effectively paving the way for preventative incarceration in Australia.
Though five of the seven High Court judges upheld the constitutional validity of the HRSOA, many academics, lawyers, and activists who deal with the lives of First Nations people inside the legal system on a regular basis, note that this will only further trap Indigenous Australians in the carceral system. Garlett had been in near-continuous detention since he was 12, and this became the rationale for keeping him in prison beyond his criminal sentence.
One of the judges even hypothesized that the law could “potentially lead to the imprisonment of one seventh of the entire prison population of Western Australia for offenses that they have not committed.” [...]
“This is a crystal-clear example of an indirectly discriminatory law: one that is not discriminatory in its express terms but is discriminatory in its practical effect.” [...]
Though Indigenous people make up less than 4 percent of the state population, nearly 40 percent of Western Australia’s prison population is Indigenous. That is particularly troubling given the horrific record of Australian prisons. Since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody in 1991, over 500 First Nations people have died while imprisoned in Australia. In 2020-2021 alone, 13 prisoners died in custody in WA – five of them Aboriginal.
No custodial or police officer has ever been found criminally responsible for any of these deaths.
The structural forces pushing Indigenous people into Australia’s prisons start early. In the Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Center, three-quarters of the inmates are Indigenous. Despite its mandate to rehabilitate people for their eventual release, reports show some of the prisoners receiving as little as five hours of education a month. In April, the state’s prison watchdog outlined a series of “cruel, inhumane, and degrading” treatments in the facility’s Intensive Support Unit. Children have reportedly made suicide pacts due to their treatment, with some being kept in isolation for 23 hours a day. [...]
Penglis and McGlade point to the age of imprisonment in Australia being only 10 years old as devastating. [...]

the ordem paranormal universe masterpost
ordem paranormal is a ttrpg universe created by cellbit. it started in 2020. as of today, ordem paranormal has 4 seasons, 2 spin offs, and the first one-shot to be aired on september 23rd.
ordem paranormal takes place in a universe with two dimensions: the normal and the paranormal.
the normal dimension is where we live as human beings, while the paranormal dimension is a completely different place, where everything that seems like the impossible can become real, like spirits, demons, among other kinds of anomalies connected to the after-life. those two places are separated by a layer called the membrane, the membrane stops the normal and the paranormal from coming in contact. however, the membrane can be weakened by fear of the supernatural, making horrendous and dangerous monsters enter our reality. this phenomenon usually happens in specific locations, prone to the perception of fear, like abandoned hospitals, old houses and deactivated sanatoriums.
all across the world, different groups have formed, looking for ways to weaken the membrane, trying to destroy it and blend the two dimensions, with the objective of seeking their own wishes, or even, fulfilling a bigger purpose. the members of this groups are called occultists. to stop chaos from being stored, a secret global organization was created: ordo realitas. common people who live double lives to stop the acts done by occultists, which aim to increase the contact between normal people and the paranormal, increasing their fear, and consequently, weakening the membrane and allowing the paranormal to cross over.
official campaigns
Tumblr media
-> the first campaign aired on february 29th, 2020, and it's called ordem paranormal: iniciação (initiation) it has 5 episodes that are around 4 hours each and all the episodes have been translated to english.
"this story begins in the early hours of february 29th, 2020, when the neighborhood of “nostradamus school” hears a terrifying scream coming from inside the building, the same place which hours before had been consumed by the flames of a fire. this leads ordo realitas to summon their rookie members to investigate the scene, where the presence of paranormal activity is suspected."
Tumblr media
-> the second campaign aired on april 11th, 2020, and it's called ordem paranormal: o segredo na floresta (the secret in the forest) it has 16 episodes that are around 4 hours each and all the episodes have been translated to english.
"on april 11th, around ten o'clock in the morning, a team from ordo realitas has a meeting scheduled with the man known as senhor veríssimo. everyone goes to veríssimo's room and there he introduces them to team kelvin, a team of veteran agents who were sent to investigate a strange murder case involving a spiral symbol that ended up mysteriously disappearing without any prior notice."
Tumblr media
-> the third campaign aired on october 31st, 2020, and it's called ordem paranormal: desconjuração (deconjuration) it has 20 episodes that are around 4 hours each and the episodes are currently being translated into english.
"the santo berço (holy cradle) was destroyed. the restructured ordo realitas now operates from an underground base. from there, the man known as senhor veríssimo commands a legion of agents who, with the help of more intense methods, seek to save the world from the growing threat of the occult. with a new formation, the team receives a mission of searching and rescuing one of the order's most important agents who disappeared while investigating a strange occult branch, known only as the order of deconjuration."
Tumblr media
-> the fourth campaign aired on september 4th, 2021 and it's called ordem paranormal: calamidade (calamity) it has 13 episodes that are around 5 hours each. it has not been translated yet.
"with no sign of any interference with the balance, a new lead makes ordo realitas start to act again. an old case, reporting on an entity described as "o diabo" (the devil), brings together a new team of agents. together, they must further investigate the case as they continue their search for the power of the calamity relics."
the official campaign has been on a hiatus since calamity.
spin-offs
Tumblr media
-> the first spin-off aired on june 25th, 2022 and it's called ordem paranormal: o segredo na ilha (the secret in the island) it has 8 episodes that are around 5 hours each. it has not been translated yet.
"on an isolated island, there is a huge mansion, built by a painter who mysteriously disappeared more than 20 years ago. an art appraiser is hired to spend a few days inside this mansion, looking for valuable paintings inside. to do this, he decides to take his family on the trip. after all, what could go wrong?"
(for the qsmp enjoyers, this is where montelyson/romero richas comes from)
Tumblr media
-> the second spin-off aired on october 29th, 2022 and it's called ordem paranormal: sinais do outro lado (signs from the other side), it has 7 episodes that are around 4 hours each. it has not been translated yet.
"the paranormal doesn't come to our reality easily,, but things weren't always like that. the year is 1997, several cases of disappearances happen in the south of brazil. a group decides to investigate the disappearance of their mentor, a paranormal hunter who has extensive research into aliens, mysterious and dangerous creatures. however, something or someone, more powerful and unknown, may be behind all this."
you can watch the spin-offs without watching the official campaign, because although they happen in the same universe and some characters may show up on these stories, they are not connected to what happens on the main story, although the spin-offs may contain information about some things from the official campaigns.
one-shot
Tumblr media
-> the first one-shot is going to be aired on september 23rd, 2023, and it's called ordem paranormal: quarentena (quarantine) and it will have 1 episode. this will be the first ordem paranormal session in english/spanish and it won't be connected to the main campaign, just in the same universe.
"at the offices of a multinational company called “panacea industries”, five people, looking for ways to make quick money, decide to carry out the scientific test of a new medicine. but perhaps the true intentions of this organization are not so clear when you look at it from the other side."
this is an update from EquipeT about the translations:

Final Volume of Heartwarming Queer Manga 'The Two of Them Are Pretty Much Like This' Released
On Tuesday, Seven Seas Entertainment released the fourth and final volume of Takashi Ikeda's Yuri romance series The Two of Them are Pretty Much Like This (Futari wa Daitai Konna Kanji) in English.
Tumblr media
The manga follows the daily lives of girlfriends and roommates Erie Sakuma, a 30-year-old writer, and Wako Inuzuka, a 20-year-old voice actress.
The publisher describes the final volume:
Wanko finally manages to land a major role after multiple auditions. At the same time, Ellie reaches a turning point as she works on her original project! The story of the sweet relationship between a twenty-two-year-old rookie voice actress and a thirty-two-year-old scriptwriter reaches its happy ending!
The Two of Them Are Pretty Much Like This was serialized online on Comic Boost from January 3, 2020, until its conclusion on February 25, 2022. Gentosha collected the series in four Japanese volumes published between August 2020 and April 2022.
