We got called in to deal with a 150 gallon aquarium that was leaking. The aquarium needed to be drained and replaced. We ended up setting up a temporary holding tank for the livestock and had a new custom aquarium fabricated that would fit in the same space. After draining the old tank and having a closer look, it was pretty evident that the fellow that installed the system originally, did a poor job with the stand, allowing stress along the bottom seems. Pressure tugging at the silicone over time, and it just let go. :-( Understandably, the client was a little leery of having another leaking aquarium. So, the new aquarium was overbuilt with this in mind. 5/8 inch thick glass, ¾ inch thick bottom, triple sealed seams and beefy bracing all around. We also added some more metal supports to the stand to flatten it out and stiffen it up. As the tank is fully visible on three sides. We had the mitered, trapezoid overflow box positioned back, center instead of in one of the back corners (as with the old one). The back panel (and overflow box) are black glass. And, all visible edges are highly polished. Visually, a much, much nicer looking tank! Details matter. The new aquarium is now up and running with the old fish in it. The client is thrilled with it. :-) significant upgrade!
