I love how Tolkien always punishes the men who mistreat women in Middle-earth. For all the evidence of sexism in his work, besides the amazing female characters he does include, fate in Arda always rewards chivalry and punishes sexual abuse.
One of many things that make Aragorn a hero is that he remains faithful to Arwen, even when being pursued by another woman.
One of many things that make Faramir a hero is that he treats Éowyn as an equal and showers her with the respect she deserves.
And both men live long, happy lives.
Whereas the chauvinists have…different outcomes.
Eöl is punished by death for being so awful a husband to Aredhel that she and their son had to flee from him.
Maeglin himself intentionally gets Gondolin destroyed just because he is lusting after Idril and trying to steal her when she is happily married to someone else, and his ultimate kidnapping attempt causes him to end up at the bottom of a cliff.
Ar-Pharazôn’s comeuppance for forcing Tar-Míriel into marriage and stealing her rightful crown is a total wipeout by Eru Ilúvatar himself.
Tolkien really said “Predators and abusive husbands shall never go unpunished.” 🎉👏🏻

Can we take a moment to talk about that generation that consisted mainly of the grandchildren of Finwë?
I mean, look at this:
Tumblr media
Dead, Good as Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Dead, Only Alive Because Her Family Had the Presence of Mind to Stop Her, Dead, Dead, Dead, Survived.
Galadriel really was the only one who survived.
And this hits me hard when I think about it.
Because a writer puts a bit of themselves in every character.
The part of Tolkien that I see the most in Galadriel is the part of him that survived the war.
After all, he was part of the Lost Generation. Two of his closest friends—Robert Gilson and Geoffrey Smith—died in the war. Tolkien and Christopher Wiseman were the only two of their fellowship to survive.
Only Galadriel survived.
That was what the Grandchildren of Finwë were. They were the Lost Generation. An entire generation slaughtered.
The regret, the lamentation, the grief. Galadriel knew it well. She lived it because Tolkien lived it.
And I don't know why, but for some reason, this speaks to me louder than any history book ever has.

Narisz's DTIYS!
Hii, everybody!! My first DTIYS is here!
There are so many talented artists and writers in the Silmarillion fandom, so instead of restricting the challenge for drawings/paintings only, you can participate by writing something inspired by my drawings too! :)
I've made four drawings for this occasion:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Fëanor, 2. Aredhel, 3. Sauron, 4. Maedhros
Rules: hmm, nothing? Enjoy it? Oh, @ me and/or use the #naariszdtiys tag, so I can reblog your post on my blog!
Prizes: A drawing by me, yey! I will choose one-one person randomly from both categories. :)
Deadline: minimum one month, but I feel like the event maay be two months long. (Depends on how much time I need for my uni thesis. :/)
That's it, I guess. Happy creating! :)
