Maxon: As soon as Maxon’s voice cracked, so did his stoic façade. Some of the younger scribes giggled, while the elder soldiers went rigid, as if standing still meant they weren’t in the room at all. Sole’s lips quivered, barely holding back their laugh. “That will be all,” Maxon said lowly, overcompensating for the pathetic noise he just made. When Sole was the last to leave, they cast a knowing look over their shoulder, one that let him know if it happened again they wouldn’t spare his pride.

Preston: Preston blushed a deep crimson, stammering over his words. “Oh gosh, haven’t done that since I was a teenager.” Sole feigned innocence and said they didn’t know he was a teenager the last run they went on. “That mirelurk was huge, Sole. I’m allowed to crack my voice out of fear.”

Shaun: Sole didn’t care that Shaun was a senior citizen and leader of humanity’s high-tech future; he was their son, and therefore fair game for teasing. Shaun rolled his eyes as if he were fifteen, not pushing geriatrics. “I won’t let you sit in meetings if you’re going to be immature,” Shaun warned. Sole leaned across the table to pinch his cheek, and every scientist and courser beside them recoiled in their seats.

tell me about the brotherhood of steel in your head please i want to know so badly

ok so there's a chapter of the brotherhood of steel that exists in the rocky mountain region that split off from the western chapters many years ago and was successful for a while but has been in a slow decline and the nail in the coffin was when caesar's legion rolled into the area and essentially killed the chapter off. most of the remaining members have either been killed or wandered off to other parts of the wasteland. those that stayed with the chapter officially, only a handful, got caught in a radiation storm that lasted for weeks, and it irradiated them so bad they, guess what, got ghoulified. but the brotherhood hates non-humans so they had to do some serious soul-searching and realized that in the beginning when the brotherhood was founded it was more about preserving technology to keep humanity from falling into the dark ages again and preventing another nuclear war. the surviving members of the rocky mountain chapter realized they could continue this mission and further the goals of helping people rebuild even as ghouls.

well then fallout new vegas happens and caesar's legion gets the axe. suddenly the rocky mountain region is up for grabs again. the rocky mountain chapter realizes that in order to have stability in the region, they need to gain control of the area so another caesar doesn't show up and the land doesn't fall to raiders again. they've also heard rumors of a place called vault 0, which was the command center for all the vaults and used to be NORAD, america's missile command bunker. all they know is vault 0 is they key to securing the remaining missiles in america's arsenal and that the place is rumored to be held by the enclave. caesar's legion tried to breach the vault but never succeeded. but the rocky mountain brotherhood realize that if they open their chapter to anyone who wants to join and make a difference, they might have a shot. so they start recruiting ghouls and wastelanders, and even a few supermutants (they build custom power armor for the super mutants, because i think that would be sick as fuck). They even get a few synths who have escaped the institute.

so with their brand new recruits they uncover the enclave and take vault 0 and basically gain control of all the remaining operational nukes and then nobody wants to fuck with them, which is actually fine because they're super chill and interested in actually helping people in the rocky mountain region. but fast forward to them wanting to reconnect with the other chapters of the brotherhood of steel which are either 1) at war with the ncr or 2) asshats. They're basically like "roger maxon didn't die for you to perpetuate the same bullshit that got us in this nuclear mess in the first place" and "not being assholes and racist actually works well in your favor, actually" and decide that with their nuclear arsenal and planes salvaged from the enclave, they're gonna take control of the rest of the brotherhood and put a stop to this nonsense.

so then they show up in Boston and basically tell Arthur Maxon that he's a little racist baby bitch and to sit the fuck down because elder Lyons actually was dope af. and he'd be super disappointed in you if he were alive and hadn't disappeared under mysterious circumstances, arthur. There's also a whole subplot in my head about how arthur got to the east coast from the west coast brotherhood that involves a lot of attempted murder and a hot air balloon but we don't have time to get into that right now.

anyways the rocky mountain brotherhood mary-sues their way into the fallout 4 plotline, defeats the institute with the help of the sole survivor, frees the synths, and makes the eastern brotherhood look like racist fools. which makes them then question everything and makes arthur maxon realize that everything he thought he stood for was a total lie.

idk there are more pieces and it's all very long and complicated and somewhat based on tidbits of lore from things i've read on the fallout wiki and very much existing in my head

NOW HEAR ME OUT! Danse has done some terrible things yes, and that is my first block I outlined becuase of being in the brotherhood and his old way of thinking, but that slides into my next block outlined of wasted potential. The voice lines he says when trading out companions don't really change after Blind Betrayal and I really wish they did. Some companions lines change after Curie becomes a synth and they way they view her changes. So in that aspect, he's wasted potential on how he doesn't say anything at all to Deacon, doesn't appoligize to Hancock or nick, doesn't get off his high horse when talking to Piper, seriously, he needs some character development and a HUGE turning point in his life.

I'm so hung up on him and what his thought patterns had to have changed to after he found out he's a synth, absolutely loosing my mind over here! The poor things traumatized!

Basically in short, he's a great character, his speech with Maxon (calling him Arthur KILLED ME), his small amount of back story, everything is good, but not great. He's missing extra thing that would round out his character better. Yes he was a part of a terrible group at first and yes he's still licking their boots, but I kind of understand in a Stockholm syndrome way?

How would companions and faction leaders (+ DLC) react to Ripper Docs?

They are special doctors that can replace any missing limbs from legs, arms, or even specific things like your big toe and eyes.

They are completely unrelated to the Institute as well.

I can’t do the DLC faction leaders because I haven’t played them recently. But I’m happy to add the ones from the main game + Gage.

Cait: Where were these Ripper Docs when Cait was fighting in the Combat Zone? Although they’re sketchy, Cait thinks cheap and fast medical care is better than none at all. And she’d trust them over some fancy-pants quack in Diamond City any day.

Codsworth: Sometimes the Mr. Handy wished replacing human parts was as easy as buying a new limb from General Atomics. Codsworth isn’t happy with Sole choosing some back alley surgeon over a trusted one at a more reputable settlement, but he’s glad Sole is at least getting medical care.

Curie: Curie thinks Ripper Docs are medical marvels. Replacing an entire limb on such limited doctoral knowledge? She’s asked several times to be trained by one. For science, of course.

Danse: Anyone who can implant something into the body that wasn’t there before is part of the Institute. He doesn’t care what anyone else tells him.

Deacon: “Ripper? I hardly know her!” Deacon thinks that joke is way funnier than Sole finds it. Deacon is very familiar with Ripper Docs. Half his face changes have been from them.

Desdemona: Desdemona actually got work done from a Ripper Doc after a botched mission almost took off her finger. She finds them discrete and practical.

Gage: “Shit, you’re telln’ me I never had to wear this stupid eyepatch?” Gage jokes about wanting to see one, but the truth is he’s grown emotionally attached to the cover over his eye.

Hancock: Tells Sole when his limbs start falling off from the radiation, he knows just where to go now. Isn’t joking. Hancock kids about immortality, but he’s always suspected all ghouls either go feral or deteriorate eventually.

MacCready: Mac is wary of anyone who claims they have that kind of medical prowess. Sole jokes they can replace his arms with robot ones, and that actually terrifies him. He won’t let Sole get near one, warning they’d swap them into a synth when they’re under anesthesia.

Maxon: As long as the enhancements made under their services aren’t cyber-related, Maxon doesn’t care. Let the Commonwealth chop itself up and stitch itself back together. He has more important things to worry about.

Preston: He thinks the idea of changing someone’s limbs... or eyes... is creepy, but Preston knows the Commonwealth needs all the healthcare they can get. He’d never personally go to one, but he won’t judge someone for undergoing their services.

Piper: Similarly to Danse, Piper cannot be convinced Ripper Docs aren’t part of the Institute. However, she is quick to interview them for a story on the Commonwealth’s more interesting forms of medical care.

Nick: “Do you think the hands they can replace yours with have fingerprints? Or do they sandpaper them off before loaning them out?” Nick is honestly disgusted by the whole concept. It reminds him of the Institute.

Shaun: Shaun finds Ripper Docs interesting enough to implant one of their memories into a synth so they can teach the Institute scientists how to perform their surgeries.

X6-88: The courser thinks if you’re stupid enough to lose an entire limb, you don’t deserve to get it back.
