*ARTISTS, I NEED YOUR OPINION*
Are you an artist? Do you post your work on social media or would you like to start? Do you struggle with your work not getting seen? Would you like to start gaining money with your art? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, I would ask for 5 minutes of your time to fill in this survey: https://forms.gle/VpJiSCvNcmi4yhZ4A
Why?
Recently, I have been thinking about ways I could help young artists achieve their own goals, and grow an audience and a community on social media. I would like to become the mentor I would have always wanted to have when I was younger.
During the past 10 years, I worked as a 2D/3D Artist, and as a Social Media Manager, I created communities and I accumulated hundreds of thousands of followers across different social media platforms. I gained a lot of knowledge that I now would like to share with you all.
This is why I’m asking you to take a look at this survey and share your experience and art struggles with me. It would help me understand how I can create something that artists really need and if there is any interest in it.
Thank you either way, here is the link to the survey: https://forms.gle/VpJiSCvNcmi4yhZ4A

I'm really on this app (as well as other apps/platforms) and getting ignored. Bet if I was a woman posting my damn selfies I'd have a ton of followers and my images would be liked & reblogged all over the place. I wouldn't even need to have an artistic eye for photography. Man, fuck everyone....
THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT.

Are we going to have to start saying “REBLOGS APPRECIATED” when we post art now????
Everything I’ve posted in the last like 6 months has gotten SO FEW reblogs but a SHIT TON of likes!
I appreciate the likes but please for the love of god reblog an artist’s work!!!

Apparently much-needed reminder that reposting artists' art (by saving the images or screenshotting them and reuploading them yourself) on other platforms without the artists' expressed permission and without credit is theft and an insult to their passion and craft. You are profiting (in views, in attention, in feedback) from someone else's work and ideas, who do not get that feedback for sharing their creation.
If you are an art reposter, you are a thief and I have no respect for you.

Yearly reminder to everyone trying to find alternatives to tumblr/social media in general: go make a Neocities account and teach yourself basic HTML and post your art/writing/shitposts there.
Tumblr media
It does take extra time to set up (but there are templates out there!) but it is so so worth it to have a site that is 100% YOURS!
Tumblr media
You don’t even have to be that good at coding. I’m not. My site is not very accessible via mobile devices but that is fine with me (keeps me off my phone) but there are plenty of ways to make your site mobile friendly. There are plenty of bare bones/accessible sites I adore purely for the media on it.
Tumblr media
Imagine having your site on your phone and showing someone- hey! I coded this from scratch. And I didn’t even have to pay a company like squarespace. All your images, links, writings, in one place. I have my fandom edits, memes, fanart, and custom graphics there.
Tumblr media
Neocities has a very bare bones follower and comment system, but you can disable this if you want your site to truly abstain from any social media-isms. I use it because its a great way to meet other webmasters and get help with coding problems. Neocities isn't an exact replacement for Tumblr (no reblogging here) but html coding is an invaluable skill to know, as is keeping a personal website in this day in age.
Tumblr media
The awesome thing about having your own website is if, god forbid, Neocities goes down, you can move your site to any other number of hosting platforms (like Teacake.org). Your site is truly YOURS, and no one else (shitty tech CEO cough cough) can take it away from you.
If you need help getting started, I recommend checking out sadgrl.online. (More links to resources in the comments section of this post).
I know neocities has been talked about before, especially within my follower circle, but I thought I'd bring it up again for anyone unaware of this awesome platform.

I say it ALL the time, have nude art will never guarantee success on these apps for certain artists. also people can see your talent with this photo stuff no matter what you shoot and will ignore you + not support you but they will bend over backwards for some talentless hack that too the worst photo of someone or something and praise them for it.

Publishing has always been a fucking nightmare, but now it’s a layer of hell. It’s not enough that writers be good at what they do. Writers have to maintain an active social media presence and cultivate a following. Be available.
They have to be conventionally attractive enough to look good enough to see on a screen, aesthetically pleasing, kind, funny, up-to-date on trends, socially aware but not so controversial that they turn off a brand from California from slapping their discount code on a video promoting a book.
They have to do all of this with no media training, with little help from the companies that are supposed to be doing this for them.
Of course, a lot of this isn't possible for say, the 40-something mother of two who teaches English at a school and writes on the side. She’s boxed out of an already complex industry that already has enough walls.
On some level, I think authors have always marketed themselves a little, but we’ve reached such a crazy point where we’re demanding the author become the influencer. Accessibility in publishing has narrowed from an inch to a sliver. And that inch was hard enough to get in as is.

As he lay in bed he could hear Thorin still humming to himself in the best bedroom next to him:
Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away, ere break of day,
To find our long-forgotten gold.
Bilbo went to sleep with that in his ears, and it gave him very uncomfortable dreams.
This moment from chapter 16 of The Hobbit comic adaptation symbolizes the core of the relationship between Bilbo and Thorin, in this version of the story.
Bilbo and Thorin are both awake long after everyone else is asleep, kept up by their anxieties over the journey.
Bilbo’s room is decorated with a bunch of little objects; Thorin is in a spare room that is completely empty. It’s a “visual reference” to the idea that Bilbo has a home in Bag End, and tons of little treasures of his own that he’s very attached to— but Thorin has none, because the Lonely Mountain and its “long forgotten gold” was taken from him.
(You can read the full comic adaptation here on tumblr, on Webtoon, or on Ao3, and tip the artist/preview the next chapters on Patreon!)

Hello, I'm not sure if you're aware, but tumblr is going to start helping midjourney gather data for their AI. You're one of the artists I follow here pretty actively and I wanted to warn you to maybe start nighshading your art before posting it here so it doesn't get swept up!
I've seen a couple of posts about it. Feeling disappointed but not that surprised. Also not excited about having to start nightshading/glazing my pieces but if there isn't going to be any serious regulations regarding data scraping and ai "art", there aren't a lot of choices.
Thank you for taking the time to warn me just in case, it was very thoughtful of you!
