I’ve long since decided that if I can’t achieve my dream job, then I will resign to live the rest of my life as a hermit to society. One who’s so rarely seen that I eventually become an urban legend to the locals.

thinking about boxer! stelle’s who is pretty much emotionless and just likes to fight. she’s basically an amateur boxer who’s popularity quickly grew because of her innate ability to adapt to seemingly anything. there’s so many gyms wanting to recruit her, even pro gyms that amateur boxers would do anything to get accepted to. stelle ends up going to ‘set your trail ablaze’, a very promising gym with plenty of aspiring and famous boxers.
she meets you there and oh boy, you gave that girl so much color and shine to her eyes as her relationship with you develops. a lot of the members, esp the coaches (himeko, herta, welt, & etc), was pleasantly surprised about stelle’s transformation! at first, she barely spoke and attended practice without interacting with anyone, and everyone was trying to get her to talk to them but to no avail. then you, a newbie trainer to the gym, who’d give her company despite her nonchalant looks and side glances towards you. you were unbothered by her stoic nature.
“ that’s good, stell’ but your jab’s a little wide—which is fine since you have long arms but because of that, you tend to come back a little slow. you gotta be a tiny bit faster and quickly go back into stance like—. “ before you could step up and show her, she sliently does it, swiftly jabbing and snaps back into her boxing stance with perfect execution. she then looks at you expectedly.
“ yeah, atta girl. that’s perfect, geez, i didn’t have to demonstrate for you! “
“. . .” she nods at you before waiting for your next instructions, ignoring the fluttering feeling in her stomach.
you became stelle’s unofficial personal coach and trainer, helping her improve as both a boxer and a person from your strong support. she grew more comfortable around you and others, becoming a little more vocal and expressive. she now has a habit of following you around like a puppy whenever you’re present in the gym. she’ll visibly sulk and become a little distracted when you’re not there. it was clear to everyone except you that she has a crush on you. you also have a crush on her, i mean, she reminded you of a adorable raccoon with claws! the obvious romantic tension between you and stelle was so agonizing, it was driving the fellow gym members crazy.
it was until stelle’s first pro boxing match where she was getting surprisingly overwhelmed by the other opponent. she looked completely beaten up and worn out, it broke your heart. during the one minute resting period, you were so full of frustration that you splashed water on her bruised face, aggressively patted her cheeks, then squished them together and pulled her into a searing kiss that left everyone in the ring and the audience speechless.
“ i fucking love you stelle but, if you don’t get your tall ass up and win, i’ll take it upon myself to be your sparring partner in every sparring match you do. “
spoiler alert, she indeed got her ass up with astronomically high spirits. a dark shade of red staining her cheeks, an odd, dopey grin plastered on her swollen, busted lips—yeah, she’s ready to kick ass in the name of love.
she totally did.

Not So Berry Plus Challenge for the TS3
I just wanted more for the TS3 version of this challenge and honestly, who wouldn't. I didn't create this challenge, I simply added and modified somethings to fit more for what TS3 has to offer while trying to keep to the NSB playstyle and heart of the challenge. So if you like the NSB but want more to do in the TS3 version of it, this is a challenge for you.
Disclaimer: I didn't make this challenge, @lilsimsie did. I also incorporated ideas from @simlovinggirl from her TS3 version of this challenge. Also inspiration from @sweetlysimss from their updated version of the TS4 version. Also sim wikia page for all information i need in terms of gameplay.

In the same way, the planet Jupiter is the king of the other planets, a giant in size with spectacular, brightly colored clouds and intense storms.
Astronomers believe that it plays an important protecting role in using its massive gravity to capture or expel from the solar system many comets and asteroids that would otherwise threaten Earth and the inner planets. Jupiter takes 11.9 years to orbit the sun, spending almost an earth year (361 days) in each sign of the zodiac.
Astrologically Jupiter is associated with the principles of growth, expansion, prosperity and good fortune; and a person’s inner sense of justice and morality and their ideals and higher goals. Jupiter governs long distance and foreign travel, higher education, religion, and the law.
In modern times Jupiter is said to be the ruler of the 9th and 12th houses, but traditionally Jupiter was assigned to the 2nd and 9th houses (the house of values and the house of beliefs, respectively) and had ‘joy’ in the 11th house of friends and aspirations.
Jupiter is associated with Thursday, and in Romance languages, the name for Thursday often comes from Jupiter (for example, Jueves in Spanish or Jeudi in French). Dante Alighieri associated Jupiter with the liberal art of geometry.
In Chinese astrology, Jupiter is ruled by the element wood, (☆Wood Dragon) which is warm, generous and co-operative. In Indian astrology, Jupiter is known as Guru or Brihaspati and is known as the ‘great teacher’.
Jupiter in Medicine In medicine Jupiter is associated with the liver, pituitary gland and the disposition of fats; it governed the blood / sanguine humor.

earlier this month, scientific american published this astronomy op-ed about inaccurate and “violent” language in astronomy and it was… really something. I do not know what their editorial standards are over there. I sent it to my dept group chat and we spent almost 3 days roasting it. “black hole is problematic for obvious reasons. how about we instead call it a once in a lifetime opportunity to feel what it’d be like to have your body stretched into a near two-dimensional line of atoms” and “instead of the chicxulub impactor, we could call it an unexpected visit from a celestial guest who offered an opportunity for new forms of life to flourish in ways they never had before” were some highlights.
but anyway, it’s a deeply weird thing to argue because I don’t think the biggest obstacle to public understanding of astronomy is field-specific language, it’s science fiction. it’s unironically science fiction. I have no fucking idea why this isn’t obvious. and the lines here get blurred because there are a lot of astronomers and astrophysicists who write scifi as a hobby. or if not that, they’ll answer questions about the mechanisms of the universe to help aspiring scifi writers who are concerned with accuracy. alastair reynolds, I love you, but you’re not helping.
I bring it up now because I noticed that a lot of people were chattering about the “dark forest hypothesis”, which is sort of an answer to that fermi question about where all the aliens are, if they exist. but it’s from a chixin liu novel. I’m sure there’s one person who takes this idea seriously because astro… takes all kinds, because it only takes one eccentric billionaire to fund your project of digging space junk out of the ocean To Prove Aliens Are Out There For Real… but I don’t think this is anywhere near the consensus. At all. like. astronomy is not a symposium where you sit around asking stupid questions about “what if everyone was Space Hitler?” it’s significantly more boring than that. you ask different kinds of stupid questions, but maybe that one is only applicable to me personally.

An examination of two paternal worldviews -- PIRATES!
Toyhouse
There is a very specific, influential, and particularly precarious relationship between father and son.
General Atkinson, coming from a long line of General Atkinsons, stretching back and back and back along their wealthy war-hungry English tightrope, understands this fact to a degree. To a degree, at least, that could be gathered from being a son, and having a father.
These are the premises he deduced from this worldly experience:
a. The father is solely responsible for the son’s upbringing as a proper man. b. Simultaneously, the father is absent, for months or years at a time, serving Crown and Country, and of course, making a good example for the son. c. The mother, being a female subject, and one so bland and uninteresting, is not noticed by the son. d. Rather, the son solely worships the father, for his heroism, patriotism, and holy manliness. The son desires to live up to the father’s example. e. If the son is not, despite the father’s best efforts, interested in serving Crown and Country, and carrying on the family lineage another generation, there is something defective about him (perhaps, from a hit on the head or a case of fever in infancy). f. Any defections must be spotted as soon as possible and corrected through harsh teachings, by the father. The situation is still salvageable.
It is under these assumptions that Atkinson chose to raise his son, his only son, Simon. And yet, something went wrong this time. Atkinson, now looking down instead of up, saw cracks in the foundation. Atkinson went away for months or years at a time, and Simon admired him from a distance, worshiped him as designed. However, Simon had developed a natural aversion to the “serving of Crown and Country” on the high seas. Upon closer inspection, Atkinson also observed that Simon and his mother, Davina Nightingale, were close. Dangerously close, dangerous enough to foster in Simon a love of that prissy, intellectual nonsense that threatened Atkinson war-hungry pirate-hunting tradition. Premise (e) seemed to be coming true. And as Atkinson initiated premise (f), as he beat down Simon’s interests, will, and love of his now-deceased mother, things seemed to have slotted back into place.
The factor that Atkinson has missed in his analysis is the precarity of the father-son relationship. See, Atkinson assumes what he does because that is how he was raised, what he was told, and how he behaved. Atkinson saw no value in his own mother, and worshiped his absent father. These characteristics extend back along that generational tightrope, and is in fact why it became such a tightrope in the first place.
These are Atkinson’s “ideal conditions,” which in practice are impossible to replicate. For he, despite his desires, is not his father. And Davina Nightingale was not his mother. He was him, and she was her. Davina Nightingale was not bland. Davina Nightingale was a hidden intellectual, an aspiring astronomer, and a loving mother. And she was determined to love her son, her only son, Simon, in place of the father’s absence.
This is not to say that other not-bland women such as Davina Nightingale did not also fight and struggle in the Atkinson family. Rather, it is to say that despite partial success in the past, the Atkinson Father-Son Formula is not foolproof, and was never really true. Atkinson misremembers the parts of his childhood where he was mad at his father, or when he loved his mother. It’s a severe case of selective memory loss that was passed easily from his father to him, and from himself to Simon. Simon, too, tries very hard to forget those moments where he loved his mother (which was, inevitably, all the time).
No, none of Atkinson’s premises are true. The Atkinson men are not heroic, the mothers not bland, and the sons not ideologically loyal or else medically defective. The father-son relationship of Atkinson to Atkinson, as it was built with tyranny and rigid expectations and pain and abuse, was always a flimsy, wobbling thing. And yet, for generations upon generations, the premises went unchecked. The tightrope-walking Atkinsons went un-toppled.
In saunter the Ortizs.
There is, also, a very specific, influential, and particularly precarious relationship between mother and son.
Captain Ortiz, coming from a long line of Captain Ortizs, stretching back and back and back along their outcast plunder-hungry Spanish plank, understands this fact very well. Rather than coming to this conclusion in adolescence, as Atkinson had, he came to it as a husband and father himself.
These are the premises he deduced from this worldly experience:
a. All responsible parties, mother and father or mother and father and rest of pirate crew or other combinations, etcetera etcetera, are all key players in a son’s upbringing as a good man. Though, a father-son bond is acknowledged (when the father is present, exists, or is not dead yet). b. That said, the father must not be absent. No parent should be absent, really, because who in their right mind would want to miss a god-damn moment? c. The mother, being another human being (and in his case being the one who popped that damn thing out), is a beautiful, resilient, and incredible woman, sure to be noticed and admired by the son. d. The son might very well worship the father, and if this seems to be the case, attempts must be made to lead by imperfect example (i.e. sometimes the father might have a bit too much rum and fall down the stairs, but son, every good man makes mistakes, you understand). e. If the son is not interested in carrying on the family business of piracy and plunder, then well, damn, the boy is a free spirit, who is the father to judge when he himself pushed his own father off the plank at fifteen? f. If (e) is true, some convincing might still be in order, and some assertions made that the ship will always be open to his return. Some guilt tripping is allowed in this case, to tease the boy and get petty revenge. A grand farewell feast is to be had.
As can be seen upon first glance, the assumptions above are not perfect by any means, and neither are they always true. For example, Captain Ortiz’s son, Ezra, has still absorbed a certain perfectionism when it comes to impressing his father. Such things are only natural when one comes from a lineage of successful pirates, but it is perhaps true that Ortiz could have done a better job at reassuring Ezra of his inherent value. Ortiz would sometimes forget, what with all the constant plundering.
The constant plundering is another nitpick.
The key point: Ortiz understood his wife. He understood Carmen de la Rosa. Carmen de la Rosa was a skillful fighter, a near-prophetic navigator, and a loving mother. Carmen, in her love, taught Ezra all she knew, and Ezra admired her like nothing else. (His first word might have been “mama,” or might have been “mierda,” depending on who you ask.) Ortiz did not see this as some kind of threat, rather, he relished in it, having the opportunity for love and family that he was not exactly given as a child, with mother long-dead and father meaner than hell.
Ortiz understands the precarity of the overall parent-child relationship, because he lived it, and overcame it in a way that Atkinson could not. Ortiz values his son and his wife and their love because he knows that otherwise, he will lose them, and they will lose something in themselves. He does not want that, not for himself and not for Carmen de la Rosa and not for his son. So, even after her death, especially after, Ezra admires his mother like nothing else.
An Ortiz is not an Atkinson. An Ortiz will push a bad father off a plank.
With this in mind, it becomes clear what finally toppled the Atkinson Way. For, on one stormy night, a washed-up, vengeful Ezra got a job on Simon Atkinson’s vessel. And on another stormy night, months later, that vessel crashed on an island, both men and two others being the sole survivors. Atkinson’s worst nightmare has been realized: an Atkinson must survive with an Ortiz. An Atkinson fraternizes, bonds, exchanges stories with an Ortiz.
An Ortiz will push a bad father off a plank.
Ezra Ortiz sees something in Simon Atkinson that knocks him free of his vengefulness. A reflection of himself: a father impossibly admired, a mother loved and lost. But the difference, of course, is in the father, in the upbringing, the ideology, the methodology. Ezra will not let Simon starve for an absent, angry father. Ezra will not let Simon resent a lost, loving mother.
With every passing month, every late-night exchange of admissions, Simon wobbles on the tightrope of Atkinsons, of worshiping fathers and ignoring mothers and serving Crown and Country and despising piracy. And step by step, Ezra walks General Atkinson off the plank. Simon begins to wonder if fatherly love really is pain and hurt and absence, if men are so emotionless and cruel after all, if women really are so bland and frivolous and obsessed with such useless things like astronomy.
It is a simple doctrine, a two step doctrine, that Ezra preaches:
a. Do not take shit from thy dickhead father. b. Love and admire thy dead mother, as she did thou.
And finally, after thirty-odd years, Simon rediscovers the intellect he shares with his mother, the love he has for his mother, the grief he has for his mother, the admiration he shares with his mother. And having come under the doctrines of the Ortizs, having seen what could have been, what should have been... he falls from the Atkinson tightrope, and lands on something sturdy. Something that smells like old books and sounds like a violin and looks like the stars and feels like a mother’s embrace.
He becomes Simon Nightingale.

“Whenever Diana Ross goes shopping in Paris, it is a sign of what a famous person’s charisma can do. One day, she wanted some trinkets to wear to go dancing. After having lunched with friends at Maxim’s, her mile-long stretch limousine (something rare even in Paris) pulled up, and she was the first outside on the sidewalks in her floor-length sables at noon. Off she cruised to E. Oxeda, the Faberge of antique jewelers. Inside, she threw her sables on a chair. She jumped up on a Louis Something desk, her fake hair flying at half-mast. She crossed her legs, dangled them as she selected in ten minutes an antique pearl necklace, a diamond clip and some earrings that did the shake, rattle and roll between her cheeks and hair. The image of fame came when the bill was drawn up. “Would you like some identification?” asked Diana. Mme Oxeda said: “No, Miss Ross. We will deliver the jewels to your hotel this afternoon before six.” And this was a high Saturday when no banks could be called to verify her astronomical check, drawn on a bank across the Atlantic Ocean. It could have easily been an imposter, a drag queen, a professional thief. But Diana Ross’ super glamour is so authentic, it can’t easily be imitated.”
/ Andre Leon Talley in the book Mega-Star (1984) /
All hail the Queen! Call her Miss Ross! Happy 80th birthday to durable, volatile veteran pop diva, occasional (Oscar nominated) actress, sequin enthusiast, all-round glamour icon and one of Detroit’s finest daughters – the fabulous Diana Ross (born 26 March 1944)! Understandably everyone loves Ross’ music (both with the Supremes and solo), but I particularly treasure Ross’s spectacular 1975 film Mahogany in which she plays a struggling aspiring fashion designer who achieves the pinnacle of supermodel mega-stardom in Italy. It’s an unassailable so-bad-it’s-GREAT camp classic in the tradition of Valley of the Dolls, Mommie Dearest or Showgirls (and Ross’s outrageous costume and wig changes surely sparked the imagination of generations of Black drag queens, including “Mama Ru” himself). Fittingly, La Ross is currently one of the official muses of Saint Laurent’s Spring / Summer 2024 campaign – and it feels like a belated Mahogany moment! Portraits by David Sims.

Disney OC Design: Omari
You know I love to make OCs for my fan sequels/rewrites 😁😁 One of the biggest complaints about modern disney is the lack of romance especially for its princesses of color. And because I find Star Boy overrated, I created my own love interest for Asha: Prince Omari.
Color scheme
Tumblr media
Right off the bat I wanted Omari to look distinct from the other Princes/Heroes. Since we don't have a black/African prince Omari fills in that void.
Most of the princes wear red, blue, white or a combo of the three. I opted for orange & gold for its association with sun (which is Also a star).
Tumblr media
To keep it animator friendly, Omari would wear patterns on specific parr of his body.
To get a base of what I'm aiming for I found these palettes online.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also wanted him to complement Asha. Together their colors form a sunset.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omari's orange and pink palette references some of Asha's concept dresses (image from @scurviesdisneyblog )
Voice
Preferably someone from Mali or north/western Africa. I don't mind if he is played by an AMERICA so long as they're black and can SING! Yes i need an actual singer in the role not a celeb or fake VA. Anyone had suggestions I'm open!!
Motifs
Omari's main tool is his telescope. It's a gift passed form from His mother. He keeps it very close to his heart. As an aspiring astronomer he sees value in uncovering secrets of the universe, that everything has a scientific explanation. However he can also be blind by the magic and whimsy in front of him.
Tumblr media
Another motif is the sun. Omari sees delight in new discoveries, but he can also be fiery and hot tempered. He is the day to Asha's night. A third motif is the mudcloth symbol for Bravery.
Tumblr media
Tumblr only allows 10 images on mobile so I'll stop here for now. What do you guys think of Omari? Should I draw my ideas?

Thundertober Day 9: Heartbreak
It was time to stop feeling sorry for himself...
Continuity: TOS
------
It struck him just how quickly time could whizz past you, unnoticed until it was too late. Married life had gone by so quickly, and yet they’d spent just about one and a half decades in each other's arms.
In contrast, the time immediately after the avalanche went so much slower, even though it was only a few months. Making the necessary arrangements. Arranging a funeral…
God, the funeral. Speaking on that stage about them was one of the hardest things Jeff had ever had to do. Remembering Lucy and his father was difficult, even though he knew it was the healthiest thing he could do. Everything was difficult. He struggled with life itself in the year that followed. He poured himself into his work, doing everything he could to make sure his children, the five most precious things the love of his life had given him, had the best life possible.
But as much as he cared and loved his sons, he was also blinded by his own grief so much that he didn’t see how badly they were hurting.
His eldest three had by far changed the most. With him out the house most of the time, Scott had been frantically getting his brothers ready for school and extracurriculars, doing chores around the house and finishing his homework last minute. And with little to no time for himself or with friends, it was clear he was exhausted with the extra workload.
Virgil didn’t talk anymore. He was grouchy with everybody all the time, the smile wiped off his face completely.
His middle boy, John, had taken after him the most it seemed. The aspiring amateur astronomer had poured himself into school work. Most of the time, he was buried in a book or shut up in his bedroom.
Gordon and Alan hadn’t noticed much wrong, both being too young to realise any better. But Gordon had quickly seen a change in the behaviour of his older family members, always offering to help Scott with things or trying to cheer Virgil or John up. Alan, being a mere two years old, had simply shifted slowly from calling for his mother, to calling out to Scott when he needed something or had a bad dream. Never once had the toddler asked for his father since then.
And Jeff had missed it all… He’d completely failed in his duties as a father. He sobbed, sinking to the floor of his bedroom as everything finally clicked into place after what felt like an eternity of being on autopilot. But he didn’t have time to dwell on that. He knew that now. Steeling himself, he picked himself off the floor, and looked at the clock. Just past midnight. Good. That meant he could try to set things straight with his eldest, who was no doubt still awake trying to unravel his maths homework.
He crept downstairs, making note of the lone light in the dining room. Sure enough, Scott was there, chewing on the end of his pencil. The teenager paused to take a sip of coffee, and that’s when Jeff intervened.
When the beverage was swiped away, Scott groaned. “Dad…” His voice was a low whisper, not wanting to wake up the hoard upstairs. Jeff himself didn’t say anything. He just put the coffee down, and reached forward to give his son a big hug. Scott froze, as if not quite believing it was real. Jeff’s heart shattered.
“I’m sorry.” He said, as if a simple apology could mend what he’d done, or failed to do. His son stayed frozen in the warm embrace. “Time to tag out, Scotty…” Realising just what his father was referring to, Scott finally hugged back, clinging onto Jeff for dear life. “I’ll take it from here.” Father and son separated after a few more minutes, Jeff wiping away a stray tear from Scott’s eye. “Take the day off of school tomorrow, son. Get some rest.”
“R-Really?” Scott sniffled.
“Of course, baby. Of course. I’ll be handling your brothers from now on.”
His son chuckled. “Good luck with that. You’re gonna need it.” His smile fell. “Dad, can you promise me that?”
Jeff sighed. “I’ll give it my best. Like I should’ve from the beginning. I know I can never apologise enough for the way I’ve checked out over this past year, but I’ll do it anyway.”
There was silence for a long few moments. “I can’t promise I’ll forgive you.” Scott finally admitted. “At least not now. But it’s a start.”
“That’s all I ask for…” Jeff gave his son one last smile before standing to his full height. “Get some sleep.”
“Dad?” A third voice whispered into the room, and the door creaked ajar to reveal the face of John. “What’s going on? A-Are you really back with us?”
Jeff reached down to lift his middle son off of the floor and into his arms. “I am, sport. I’m here.” He reassured gently, rocking his boy back and forth in his arms. “What are you doing up, son?”
“Couldn’t sleep…” John mumbled into his father’s shoulder. Jeff tried to catch Scott’s eye, but paused when he noticed his eldest wasn’t returning the look. Instead, Scott’s eyes were transfixed on the dining room door.
Jeff made a small ‘Oh’ sound, and keeping a tight grip on John, opened the door the widest it could go. Behind the door, much to his chagrin, was a worried Virgil and a very tired Gordon. “Boys…” He shook his head. “What are you all doing up? Come on now,” he gestured with his head for his three standing sons to go upstairs back to their rooms. “Bed. All of you.” He followed them upstairs, making sure each and every one of them would sleep through the night.
He was in Scott’s room when a high-pitched wail pierced the air. Scott made a move towards the door, but Jeff stopped him quickly. “I’ve got Alan. Get some sleep, okay?”
Scott frowned, hesitant, but nodded in the end. “Okay…”
“I love you and your brothers a lot, Scott. I’m not letting any of you down. Not again…” Jeff promised, leaving the room. “Night, son.”
“Night, Dad…”
When he got there, Alan’s little arms reached up to him, desperate for some attention from anyone. Jeff picked him up, soothing his youngest son by rubbing little circles on his back. Slowly but surely, Alan finally fell asleep again. Jeff placed a single kiss on the toddler's forehead, laying him back in the crib with a smile on his face. He’d give the world to his sons if he had it, but for now, he’d gladly give them his time.

GURRRRLLLLL <gender neutral>
I JUST FINISHED READING LEAVING IT ALL BEHIND AND IM JUST STUNNED???
FIRST OF ALL-
why would you do all of that to me.
SECOND-
ALL THOSE PLOT TWISTS? ZHAO AND CHANG BEING BROTHERS?????
THIRDLY-
that was fucking astronomical I have never read anything like it. hands down one of if not the best pieces of literature I have ever read in my life. if you write an original work one day I’m buying a million copies all on my own. you are an amazing writer I aspire to be as great as you. the way you convey emotion and tension is incredible. the accuracy and detail in which you describe characters and how they act is impeccable. the way you can still implement humor in the story and make it not feel out of place, same with nice, happy scenes in a world you’ve created to be so tragic, showing the reality and nuance of the characters and situation. Wow.
OMG SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!
Tumblr media
This was such a nice ask & I gotta be honest, when people go out of their way to be really nice to me it is really inspiring! I’m really glad you enjoyed LIAB! I did have a bit of fun with the plot twists haha & YAY! I am glad you enjoyed the bits of humor, thanks again this was a super nice ask I love itttttt!!! AHHH!! <3
