Hanji is like the sun. Warm, and bright and inviting.

"We should stop for now.", they suggest, as they put a pile of paper work to the side. And he can't say no. He can never say no.

They are in Marley, in one of the many rooms the Azumabito mansion has to spare. The kids have gone outside searching for Eren and they took the time to fill in some last minute reports in between. He's laying on the couch, one leg crossed over the other, arms relaxed over the backrest. Hanji stands still against the windowsill before him; their silhouette a sharp contrast to the orange-painted skies glimmering outside.

"Whatever.", he mutters. "What do you wanna do?"

They turn back to look at him; their chin held between their thumb and index finger. A sign that they are already deep in thought. A familiar expression that Levi has learnt to love over the years, too.

"Maybe put some music on?", they say. And their one good eye lights up at the idea.

Levi huffs, but gets up and makes his way to the little turntable in the corner. Onyankopon had taught them how to use it back in Paradis, not that long ago. He has to admit it's kind of fascinating, the fact that you can record any sound in the world and then play it back on. Like an echo of the soul.

"Is this okay?', he asks. He's struggling to figure out what knobs to turn and what buttons to push, but tries his best not to let it show. Hanji hums in response once the disc is already spinning along.

"It's lovely.", they nod. Music now fills in the silence, vibrates and soars through the air. They're able to recognize the striking tuning of the piano, the soft strum of the guitar in the back, even. It's magic to the ears; electricity that shakes them up in ways that feel new and entracing.

Levi watches, back from his old spot in the corner of the couch. Hanji's singing, too invested in the melody that suddenly escapes them, and he can't help but notice how tender their voice sounds. It's a beautiful sight to witness, he thinks: a spectacle for one, like poetry in motion.

They twril and turn and twist around on their heel; hips swinging, arms lifted over their head. Their cheeks glow in a faint pink, their breath falters. It's a liberating sensation, to dance loose like that, to let themselves flow free, like a streaming river that breaks wild into the ocean. Levi can't remember when was the last time he has seen them this happy.

"Oi, four eyes.", he calls, so hushed they don't even listen. And it's just like the old days. When the rage of the world still hadn't gone down on them. When there was still a flicker of hope burning fierce, tucked inside their wide curious gazes.

Hanji shakes their hips again. And Levi wants to touch them. Oh, how he wants to touch them. They had taken off their vest suit and undid the tight knot of their tie, too. Their shirt is vaguely unbuttoned, exposing the tanned skin hidden underneath every time they move. He thinks that, maybe, if he was courageous enough, he would walk over to them and put his hands on their waist. Just to see how it feels like, if only for once.

Outside, the Marleyan skies bleed fractioned into a million different colors, seeping wide through the opened windows. Hanji dances and dances, grazed by the last scraps of daylight, and Levi is completely unable to look away, deeply lost to their rhythm.

He recalls the moment he saw the sun for the first time, back when he was an unexperienced soldier and the world was new. It's a smiliar sensation to what he's feeling now, he recognizes: his heart the same syncopated pulse beating unsteady to the broad view. Hanji as shiny and out of reach as the burning blue painted infinite above his head.

He knows now, as the song reaches its climax, that Hanji most likely is the sun. And that he, irrevocably, undoubtedly, undeniably, has been blinded by their light.

"Levi!", he hears them say, and he blinks, being brought back into reality. Their hair is a brown mess splashing onto their face, wild and untamable. Their slender figure glides with agility, almost hypnotizing. "What are you looking at?"

It takes him a minute to realize he's smiling; a small tug to his lips that would have probably gone unnoticed if it wasn't that Hanji's his only witness.

"I'm not...", he blabbers, defensive. "I'm not looking at anything."

A lie. But he knows better than admitting to it. And Hanji knows when not to tease him about it, either. They can read right through his pages anyways.

"Wanna dance with me?", they offer, extending his hand to him. The next song's already playing and he can't say no. He can never say no.

Because Hanji is just like the sun, he repeats as he walks over to them. Electrifying, illuminating, nurturing. And, when nightfall tints the sky dark, he can be sure: he's holding the brightest of stars, right there between his arms.

I like talking abt aot with u. Can we discuss more and clarify some things?

First thing I wanted to mention is that the idea that the titan holders are influenced by the previous holders is erroneous? At least based on what we saw with Armin. That was the brilliance of Eren, he went so far as committing literal genocide while being of sound mind, he didn't lose his mind. He was never controlled by anyone, everything was 100% his own free will. He was so vehement and hellbent in decision in chapter 123 and onward until the very last chapter that watching him say "I don't know" and "Only Ymir knows", crying about Mikasa finding another man (considering he was implied to have little to no romantic feelings for her prior to that) is just ridiculous to me. However this one line in chapter 130 contradicts it and proves your point that he acts based upon his personal values and emotions "Even if all of this was what I wanted". Like, you're not sure that this is want you want? What? Tbh the whole speech was kind of nebulous and equivocal. However, the rumbling was not only reliant on his ambiguous feelings but also on specific clear objective that he declares in chapter 123: "To protect the people of Paradis", in the same chaoter he states that he will eliminate all life that exists beyond Paradis. Chapter 139 retcons and contradicts a ton of things, I can nitpick forever.

Second how did Eren "use pain" to see his own memories of his friends being happy? Am I missing something? What wdym by so he could see happy Mikasa line up with him?

And lastly why wouldn’t the small scale rumbling have done anything if it could destroy Marley's navy and other ground forces? From what we saw in chapter 134 their airships were pretty futile against the rumbling. But yes, in the long run, it would have been a short term solution. I agree that Eren didn't have much of a choice there, he either pulls the trigger and does something while he still has the time of his life left, or the Paradis shuts up and dies obediently.

It isn't erroneus, it's canon. Porco states explicitly he saw Ymir's memories eating Marcel, but if this claim isn't enough, then Armin's attraction to Annie is implied to be influenced by Bertoldt's known attraction to Annie. Armin only started visiting Annie when he got the titan, despite Annie being in the basement for quite a while, and lastly, Eren himself directly alters the memories of Kruger and Grisha. Who's to say no one else altered Eren's memories? Well, I postulate that Ymir Fritz herself altered Eren's memories even before he got his first titan.

I draw the conclusion from two specific episode and chapter titles. Season 1 Episode 1 - "To you, 2,000 Years in the future" and Season 4 Episode 20 - "From you, 2,000 Years Ago"

The question is, what was sent 2,000 years? Well, I say Ymir's memories. The episode "from you" is a telling of Ymir's life story, and it was sent to Eren the day Shiganshina fell, right at the start of the episode, during his nap. That's why he woke up crying, obviously being shown Ymir's life would make anyone cry. Eren might not be able to remember the dream, but it was clearly ingrained in his head, and what mark would Ymir's life leave on anyone the most? The desire for freedom. Ymir is a founding titan, she can alter the memories of Eldians, and with the Attack Titan's ability to see memories, I reckon that in that moment where Eren grabbed onto her in the paths, she sent those memories to him in the past.

We know Attack on Titan has a non-linear time flow, actions in the future can affect the past. Eren Jaegar used the Founding and Attack abilities in conjunction to alter the memories, and thus the fate of the world, of Grisha and Kruger. Eren wouldn't have gotten his titan powers if he didn't force Grisha to kill the royal family, the show isn't stranger to self-fulfilling prophecy and the Grandfather Paradox.

Eren could only force Grisha to kill the royal family, because Grisha stole the founder from the Royal Family, however, Grisha would not have stole the father had Eren not forced him, meaning Eren wouldn't have the founder, and couldn't force his father.

Everything in the Attack on Titan universe happens at the same time, the future and the past are the same.

The flashes of Eren's dream we see are, what seems to be two of humans being eaten by titans, a windmill in an open field surrounded by forest which titans then appear on suddenly, the side profile of a man who looked older, only the middle have of his face is shown (from the top of his nose to his upper lip), a regal looking statue with the head and hand destoryed lying bt a lit fire, six childrens toys on a bed, next to closed curtains, the curtains are vertically striped red and green, on the red ones there's a symbol appearing to be a white flower, on the green is a symbol with a crown on top of it. Several scout bodies in a raining forest. A (presumably) dead man with a wasp by his eye, Dina Fritz's titan mouth, and then Carla Jaegar being grabbed by Dina's titan.

If the last two images imply that all of these images take place sequentially, then most of this memory is set before episode 1, and could easily be of Ymir's life.

This then means that while Eren is in his right mind, he is ultimately victim to Ymir's long con of breaking out of her chains in the paths.

This is in fact supported by your qoute "Only Ymir knows." Which implies that Ymir is the reason this is all happening. and "I don't know" showing Eren isn't exactly certain of why he does things, and answers can only be found in Ymir.

I think Eren's uncertainty and seeming ambivalence can be explained if you belief that he is being controlled or influenced by Ymir.

Eren using pain might've been a mistaken assumption on my part. I'll explain more clearly now what I believe happened in that scene. Eren was injuring himself for two reasons. Firstly, for Eren's plan to work he needs to be in the hospital in Marley for an extended length of time, a gunshot wound to the eye, as well as half a severed leg is what'd do that. Additionally, titan powers can be triggered by physical pain. We see this with Eren's bite, Annie's ring, and Ymir's knife. Eren having an eye and leg wound insure a constant pain for Eren to transform at a moments notice, like his confrontation with Reiner. While this principly applies to transformation, there's no reason it shouldn't apply to other powers, including Eren's abilities to look through the eyes of the Attack titan's memories, including his own, where he looked to his happy friends because his visions of the future told him that he wouldn't ever see them happy again. That's just my take.

Their airships were futile against the actual rumbling, but airdropping in Reiner, Porco, as well as Zeke and Pieck had they not defected, along with all the other soldiers would've still been enough to destory a significant amount of Paradis. Armin in unable to transform, meaning that the Paradisian forces only have Eren and while he is a formidable foe, an unexpected attack with 4 titans, and the military, against Eren and the Paradisian military. Eren might have the power of three titans, but he is only one man and can be overwhelmed. Even if the Rumbling did collapse the entire Marleyan miltary and destroyed their airships, it would only take one airship to drop 4 titans and a group of elite soldiers which could do a lot of damage by themselves, enough damage to at best cripple Paradis, and, if they got lucky and managed to dispose of Eren and a good amount of the military quickly, potentially wipe it out.

This was fun! i really dont get to talk about aot enough.
