"Jug End Barn '51"
Late night socializing during Memorial Day weekend 1951 in South Egremont, Massachusetts.
The Jug End Barn Lodge was a premiere Berkshire destination for all seasons with swimming pools, tennis courts, a rifle range, bowling alley, dance hall, numerous restaurants and skiing and ice skating in the winter. The name comes from the German “jugend” meaning “youth”.

West Cummington, Mass. A ski tow (Berkshire Snow Basin) is located here. The mountains and streams are beautiful, but the soil, rocks, and growing conditions seem very marginal for farming. Photo taken by Bob Mills in Jul. 1980. Originally shared on this blog in Nov. 2022.
