I absolutely adore how Carson is introduced to us using the Pride and Prejudice book as a metaphor for her “destiny”, if you will, and sets the tone for the entire premise of the show. It’s a piece of media women revere as peak romance, the most desired thing for a woman to obtain at that time period. And Carson appreciates the story for the realism. The story depicts two people who form a real connection and through that develop a deeper relationship. It’s not a fleeting lustful look often portrayed in fairy tales, it’s something real that took time and effort to build. After she reflects on that, she poses the question to her audience (us and the woman sitting next to her).

But what is romance, really?

In this moment, Carson is thinking of the “romance” in her life. The husband she has, someone she built a life with. Has a foundation with. Considers to be her best friend. But is that alone romance?

This is what Carson discovers after leaving everything she knew behind. Romance is a combination of deep connection built on a solid foundation and the attraction that goes beyond logic. Someone you can share your truth with. Someone you can be you with. Someone you can rob a bank with.

The fact that this little seemingly off handed conversation was placed in the beginning of the show as the set up for Carson, set the tone of the show. Because each character is exploring romance in some sense of the word. Whether that be romance with someone, romance with the sport they love enough to be ridiculed and patronized just to seize the opportunity to play, or romance with the life they’ve always wanted, the autonomy they deserve.

This show is so beautiful in its layered complexity and takes the time to let’s these women tell their stories.

So in case it comes up.. there was some drama with some other fandoms regarding GLAAD today on Twitter. The TLDR; version is, some tweets went out regarding how disappointed we were about Ted Lasso winning out over Our Flag Means Death for Outstanding Comedy Series. Somehow, Yellowjackets fandom, who won a different category Outstanding Drama Series somehow got the idea that OFMD fans were complaining about Yellowjackets winning. It was corrected multiple times by multiple people but they kept coming. So yeah, twitter being twitter, not a great time. Sending love to @koneko_army and any other crewmates who had to deal with it.
