Prunus spinosa (blackthorn)

Prunus is a genus of shrubs and trees that includes plums, cherries, peaches, nectarines, apricots, and almonds. A lot of them have white flowers and a lot of them bloom in the spring. This species, (probably) Prunus spinosa, is in my neighbor's back garden. It seems to take the approach that 'more is better' and is totally covered in these snow white blooms.

Blackthorn was brought to North America by British settlers and it's very hard, dense wood was at one time used to make Irish shillelaghs (a cross between a walking stick and a hefty club). As a food crop it fails compared to many other members of the genus but it sure knows how to turn on the charm on a sunny, spring morning.

Ultimately Blackthorn accepts that he may not understand Mariko’s choices, but he can support her in the only ways he knows how: following her lead and seconding her, so as to save her mortal soul from Christian hell.

Without knowing, Blackthorn has done the thing her husband never could: giving her the freedom of a life beyond anyone else’s understanding, logic, or control.

idk but i kinda love how shadowhunters families' traits stay the same through generations even tho it's unrealistic like all the herondales only loving once and falling hard and the blackthorns being fiercely protective of their siblings and doing necromancy. the fairchilds being so creative. i just think it's cute

Went out of town the other day to let some thoughts out of my head and I returned home with some materia magica.

What I’m most excited to work with are these Blackthorn spikes, especially because I feel like I wasn’t the one finding them, but the other way around… it’s odd to explain and I wonder if anyone else had this kind of feeling as well?

I’m so willing to share the view as well, I found myself in the middle of the mist at some point (“bad” weather makes me happy as a child, particularly during summer).

Also… there were lots of hagstones (the giant one I previously posted was from this area as well)

This almost-double-holed looked amazing! But I didn’t feel like disturbing it, i don’t know. I just awwwed at it, snapped a picture and went by leaving it alone.
