We really need more stories like Elemental.
Just stories that are bursting with light and happiness and are predictable but still fun to watch.
There have been too many dark and gloomy stories with no happy endings lately and I’m frankly sick and tired of it. Show runners claim that it’s because in real life you don’t always get a happy ending but that’s not to say you can’t ever be happy. And even if an ending isn’t “what you expected” it should still feel like there is resolution and hope for the future.
Yes, this is 100% about The 100 and Sex Education. Not even gonna lie.

Arc Two 106
Nyota was slowly getting used to the idea of waking up without nightmares. She would never have expected this, a year ago. Strange how much had changed.
One of the greatest changes grinned at her as she opened her eyes. “Welcome back. Did you mean that gesture you made when I prodded you, or were you still asleep?”
Nyota stared blearily at her brother, and made a different gesture that she very much meant.
He laughed.
“If you are going to mock me,” Nyota rasped, still hoarse from sleep, “you can at least give me breakfast.”
Tarvei grinned and passed her a fruity-smelling mug. “Already got that covered. Lumen showed me how to make smoothies. Kiwi, grape, and avesmingo. No toxictop, though. He said you’re way too fond of that stuff. Really, sis, toxictop? Even the name’s got poison in it!”
Nyota paused mid-sip to look at him primly from over the rim. “It tastes good.”
Vei shook his head. “You’re a crazy one, you know that? But then again, we all are, aren’t we? Runs in the family, runs in the species.”
Nyota hummed in agreement and set the mug down. Her voice was still too sleep-tangled for a good chuckle, but she felt it rumble in her chest anyway. Irritant that he could be, her brother was good at making her feel warm. “That is one way to put it. So, you stayed overnight?” she asked.
“Yep. You have a nice ship.” Tarvei leaned back and folded his arms behind his head in a remarkable imitation of Hadley. “Lumen was nice enough to set me up in your guest quarters. I’d have been happy enough on the library couch, though. You really know comfort. I don’t think I’ve ever slept better.”
She smiled in agreement. “It is amazing how nice things can be when they’re just a little better than standard issue. I think this is the first time you have stayed overnight with us, isn’t it?” Her warm expression faded into something far quieter. “That is dangerous, Tarvei. You are still in the system.”
He brushed it off. “Relax, sis. I’ve got it handled this time. You’re recovering, remember? Lumen will have my ears if I get you worked up.”
Nyota looked up at him as if she could look right through him. “No cover to maintain today?” she pressed, undeterred. “You haven’t vanished off their records like I did, Tarvei. You can’t just disappear that easily. You… you know what would happen.”
Tarvei nodded. “I know, don’t worry.” His voice was quiet now, all cavalier humor gone. “But I’ve got it covered this time. I’m on a trade mission, spreading propaganda with our partners, far as the old ‘knog’s concerned. I covered my tracks, and tied off all the loose ends before taking this chance.”
Nyota nodded, relaxing just a little. “Good. What I said to Commander Blake applies to you too, little brother. Play safe. Do not risk yourself for my sake.”
“What’s with the formal talk? And you can call her Lana, you know.” Tarvei sat back, posture deliberately relaxed as if he was trying to make a point. “We’ve all heard you do that already—hell, she kissed you, and you liked it. Be a bit less stiff.”
Nyota blinked and sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “I’m… sorry. This isn’t easy for me.”
“What isn’t?” His casual pose didn’t match the keen interest in his eyes. “I’ve seen you play it casual before, with your crew. I’m your brother, right? You can chill with me.”
She looked him in the eye. “Can I?”
Something in her stare made him freeze.
Nyota broke eye contact after a moment, and something inside her twinged a little when she caught him relaxing out of the corner of her eye. “Tarvei, I…” She took a breath. “Please, understand… I ran away. Everyone I knew thought I was dead for six years. It… would have been longer, if I had my way. No one would have ever known I was alive.”
His cheerful attitude was entirely gone. Tarvei felt every inch the rebel spy now, and Nyota realized with a bittersweet pain just how similar, how opposite they had become. His voice was as careful, as measured, as hers had ever been. She wasn’t sure if she felt pride or grief.
“Do you regret meeting me, sis?”
“No.” No hesitation. She was more sure of that answer than anything else. “I regret nothing of finally knowing you. And that… is why I am so confused.” Nyota looked up and caught his eye again, this time with a bewildered, helpless little smile that felt so strange on her face. “What would the Miniknog do to my family if they knew? If they knew their Agent had betrayed them? That she ran? You know what they would do. And they would know. One slip is all it would take. Our parents are…”
“They’re still loyal,” Tarvei finished for her, quietly. “They don’t know about me. Or you.”
Nyota nodded and the words slipped out before she could muster the will to stop them. “So I planned to carry it alone, forever. I could never go home.”
She had to stop for breath. It was the most she had said at once in a long while, and it hurt, like setting a joint that had healed wrong. Telling Marcy about Isobu had hurt, but it was a different hurt, one that was over now. This one, this was still happening. Tarvei put a hand over hers, and that hurt too. He pressed her half-full smoothie cup into her empty hand. Nyota drank it down slowly and let out a long sigh. The deep, sweet taste reminded her so much of Earth, of home, of love and loss. It hurt and healed together. Her cheeks were cold. Cold and wet.
“And then there you were,” she sighed, “and I knew I could not—I did not want to hide from you.”
Tarvei took the empty mug from her and set it down, then pulled her into a hug. He was so warm. He smelled of oranges.
“I get it, sis,” he whispered in her ear. “Believe me, I get it so much. That doll of yours, that’s why… I found her, and suddenly you weren’t a story anymore, and… I’ll be careful, Nyota. And we’ll fight it together, okay? So one day we won’t have to hide, not anymore. None of us will. No more sisters hiding to protect their little brothers. Ever.”
Nyota smiled through her tears and pressed her face into his shoulder. “How did I ever let you grow up without me?”
“Well, you didn’t really have a choice there,” Vei said honestly, and she could hear the little grin in his tone. “But it was for the best, really. I was a mess of a kid… But once you’re better, we’ll have so much catching up to do.”

Sci-Fi Legend Alan Dean Foster Joins “Island In the Stars” Movie Production
HOLLYWOOD, CA, USA, April 15, 2024 – Lumen Actus Productions, Inc., recently announced a new addition to the creative team behind the movie, “Island In The Stars”: legendary sci-fi author and screenwriter Alan Dean Foster. He will put his significant experience on major film projects to work as a script consultant.

The project is co-written by Konkle, who will also direct, delivering “a thrilling narrative combined with a unique visual style.” Other members of the film’s production team offer a blend of creative vision and cinematic expertise, such as veteran actor Vernon Wells, producer/writer Michael “Oz” Smith, and award-winning Australian producer Lucinda Bruce.
Foster said, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tom Konkle before and have looked forward to having the opportunity to do so again. ‘Island of the Stars’ is exciting and has the potential to break all-new ground in science-fiction cinema. I look forward to helping the team bring the story to life.”

We’re All Going To Die takes on the simple task of exploring the meaning of life. Through colour, imagination, humour and fart jokes, Director Stefan Hunt asks you to look at the what ifs, the why nots and the oh wells that might flash before your eyes when paid a surprise visit by Death. With your internal monologue played by Jared Jekyll and Death played by Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, Lord of the Rings), you’re prompted to get existential whilst grinning from ear to ear during this independent short film of fantastical weirdness.
The film is an adaptation from Stefan Hunt's illustrated book 'Were All Going To Die' and part of a multimedia extravaganza of that same name that was launched in October 2017. The project uses death and art to empower its audience to fear less & live more. "Years ago I was crippled by fear. Reminding myself that I'm going to die has changed my approach to life. It's the most powerful force to live by." says Hunt, who independently funded this project alongside a successful Kickstarter campaign.

“Captain, I don’t often question yer sanity—”
“Either you are lying with diplomacy, or you should question it more often.” Nyota bit back a stiff grunt as her leg twinged from putting weight on it.
To his credit, Lumen still helped her stand and steady herself, despite his misgivings. “I dunno what ya think yer gonna get it to say,” he said. “That thing’s mostly rubble now. The Commander and our lil’ Firebrand tore right into it.”
Nyota gave him a knowing sideways smile. “Is that what you have been calling Hadley lately? It suits her.”
Lumen chuckled. “Sure does. She don’t mind it too much, either. So whatcha think this Warden thing can tell ya?”
“Hard to deter today, I see.” Nyota paused and leaned on Lana’s shoulder as she gathered her thoughts. “I couldn’t say what I want from it. But it is the last creature that really knows what this place was. If it even remembers that.”
Lana shot her a quizzical look. “Is that what brought you here? History?”
“Lumen didn’t tell you?”
Lana tilted her head, close as she could get to shaking it without dislodging Nyota. “No. He said you were in trouble. That was all I needed to know.”
Nyota frowned and put her free hand on Lana’s shoulder. “That’s reckless and you know it.”
Lana held her stare, green eyes somehow both patient and defiant at once. “I knew what I was doing. It was worth it.”
Nyota tightened her grip. “Lana Blake,” she hissed softly. “You command the Rebellion. Don’t you dare risk your work for my sake.”
Lana closed her hand around Nyota’s in quiet reassurance. Her voice was quiet, for Nyota’s ears only. “I won’t. I will not make you carry that.”
It stung hard in Nyota’s heart, how relieved she was to hear that, how well Lana understood. Cold air dried her tongue and she remembered to close her mouth, but it was several more moments before she could swallow the startled pricking tears and look away. “Thank you,” she breathed, and swallowed the emotion again. Feel, but not yet. She had to be Captain here. “Yes, we came here at Esther Bright’s request. This place might have been made by the same people who built the Ark at the Outpost.”
Lana did not respond for several moments. When she finally did answer, there was a kind of strain in her voice, like she was trying to express something she could barely understand. “This place is old.”
That earned a quiet chuckle. “Beyond imagining. Arjun was beside himself with excitement.”
“He still is.” Lana smiled through the weight of trying to comprehend. “He did not stop talking about it the entire time your Lumen was patching him up.”
Nyota started to reply, but a chill caught her. Lana stopped with a low, warning snarl. They had reached what was left of Aroneus, and it glowed softly at their approach. A low static pulse made her fur stand on end; it was scanning them.
“Gardener.” It spoke aloud, in the Apex language, faint echoes of energy making the stones hum with a cracked, leaden voice.
It was talking to Nyota, she realized. “No.” She touched her chest. “Host of an echo.”
The faint light brightened briefly. It felt almost like a nod, or a smile. “Life lingers.”
“Life thrives.” Nyota indicated the rubble that was left of Aroneus’s body. “Life fights.”
The light brightened again, longer. Nyota found herself imagining Lumen’s (Isobu’s) short whistle, so similar to her own inhaled surprise. This thing was no Novakid. But it still spoke with light. “You did not come here for that life.”
“No.” Nyota indicated for Lana to help her sit down; the commander did so, but reluctantly. Nyota understood the wisdom of staying on her feet in case Aroneus tried something. But she was tired. And if it was able to hurt her, it would have done so by now. “We came here chasing echoes. You have been in here a very long time.”
Aroneus hummed, and Nyota was reminded of Lumen again. “Time is nothing to stone.” It paused. “But everything to life.”
There was something in that statement that made Nyota study it again instead of answering. The blue lights along its body held stains of the purple energy still. It was a duller blue now, warmer and less harsh. Lana felt it too; she could tell from the sudden tiny shift in Lana’s hands at her back, in the sudden small tension of new attention.
The glow faded and flickered. “Do not repair me.”
“We would not even know where to begin,” Nyota said, honestly. The flicker this time felt more deliberate, almost like a dry laugh. “And after what you did, I would rather not fight you again.”
“Mutual.” The lights in the stone faded—no, flowed. They slid down the thin channels and into the crevices between tiles in the floor. Lana gripped Nyota’s shoulders, ready to pull her away, but the light flowed away from them, slowly, toward the far side of the room. “I lost the right to act. I will watch. You may still act.”
Lana bristled with uncertain energy, wary and curious. “What are you doing?”
“The forge. The legacy.” The light vanished into the black door set deep in the wall. Even at this distance, they heard the tiny click of the lock. “It is yours. Act well.”
