Re: overall tumblr top 10: I think it’s funny that my throwaway moodboards are often some of the most popular content on my blog. Things I’m just like ‘ooh I gotta make this’ are mixed in with requests, I think that’s interesting! Ms. Frizzle just blowing away the competition, that’s amazing and I love it. Nothing is even close to how popular she is, and she deserves it. Jack Skellington coming onto the list twice? Come through king, I would love to write a full fic in Halloweentown sometime.

Generally, the more ‘alternative’ characters seem to get a lot more attention on my blog: The Pumpkin King, Morticia, Wybie, Sundrop and Moondrop... Tiana and Naveen really snuck up there though!

Moving onto the more direct fic comparison:

....well this made me realize that I never published my Sanders Sides fics from this blog on AO3, whoops

Setting that aside, fics with angst and plot tend to do better on AO3, while fluffy stories do better on tumblr: Sugary Sweet doesn’t even hit my top 10 on AO3 and it’s one of the fluffiest fics I’ve ever written, coming in at #5 on the tumblr list

On the other hand, Only Heaven I’ll Be Sent To is by far one of my best performing fics on AO3, but comes in at number 6 (tied with another fic) on tumblr, probably because it features a lot of action and gore alongside the fluffy agere elements, same for Restrained showing up on the AO3 top but not tumblr’s.

My Harry Potter fics do way better on tumblr, which is interesting? Maybe Harry Potter fans are still reading their fics on independent forums? Or Harry Potter folks on AO3 don’t cross over much with the agere crowd. (Or maybe they’re just overloaded with /reader fics) I haven’t been actually into the HP community since around 2011 so I’m not sure what’s up there.

Big shoutout to Class Outing for dominating the top of both lists: BNHA is such a big fandom that it makes sense, and I wrote that fic on @agere-fandom-time, which I think got more interaction than this blog: it seems like people are more comfortable interacting with a group-run blog, rather than an individual writer. Or maybe that’s a natural consequence of more writers putting out more consistent content, letting the blog get bigger. I’m not sure! Either way, even if I’m not into BNHA anymore, I feel like it’s a good piece of my writing, so I’m happy for it to be my top spot.

BNHA 3rd Popularity Poll Results (French edition)

So the French editor of BNHA, Ki-oon Editions, has been hosting popularity polls for the series for the third year in a row. This poll lasted a few months (it started around April 2022 and the results were planned to be revealed in volume 34 in October 2022) and the results are finally available now, through the released version of volume 34 and online.

I’ll post the results and the number of votes until the 25th position.

As a personal note, my votes went for Shouto, Dabi, and Endeavor (one could only vote up to three characters), so I’m quite pleased to see the brothers up so high~ It’s quite interesting to see that the villain trio all made it to the top 10 as well! BNHA 228 & 229

Basically 2 chapters of me crying real tears for Twice.

But let’s start off with the Dabi fight

I’m sure this part has been analyzed plenty of times about the fact that Endeavor said Toya has a weak constitution, and equating that with this guy’s mention of a possibility of something being wrong with it. For example, Dabi usually sends his flames outwards and in short bursts, which is different from the way Endeavor and Shouto can keep their flames near their skin. Maybe he tried it once but his blue flames were too strong and that’s why it gave him those burns.

Look at this guy and his dramatic one-liners LMAO

The Liberation army values quirks over education! You know, information is power, and by withholding or convincing your people that education isn’t all that important, you gain control over them with:

a) manipulate information and twist facts that normally people with basic knowledge would pick apart. I bet he’s filled with propaganda.

b) limit their future options: this guy would have trouble getting a job for anything other than the usage of his powers. A lot of opportunities has been closed to him.

...How old is this guy anyway?

Their firepower are OP though. Like if Shigaraki fights them, even with his new chain-reaction decay, I doubt he could have enough range to take them down.

“Shigaraki and Spinner should be together,” well I know certain fans who are happy about that one. Phrasing ^_^.

TWICEEE! The only person to go back and search for Toga! He’s so concerned for her!

Chapter 229

There’s not a single nice person in the Liberation army, is there? :(

Poor Giran is worrying about Twice, and they had to rub it in to the fact that it’s his data that’s being used to hurt Twice and Toga.

Very brutal scene. Twice is watching versions of himself killing Toga, which is beyond nightmare fuel at this point. He couldn’t trust himself or the fact that he’s the real one, and now he’s faced with other hims that have a possibility of being the real Twice, and that Twice is killing Toga, which means that he is killing Toga... Way to screw with a man’s mind.

Watching Twice break down is really hard to read :’(

It wasn’t even his fault, and he was blamed for it. But when bad things happen, and there’s no one beside you to stop you? You enter a spiral of negativity that can snowball to unseen proportions.

This reminds me of the Overhaul arc where Twice was so guilty for getting Magne killed, even though all he did was lead Overhaul in for a meeting - nobody really could have predicted what could happen. But he was devastated and blamed himself, telling Shigaraki he wants to take responsibility for it, as if he was looking for punishment. Maybe he thought it was going to be the same thing, and people who were kind to him would shun him because of his mess up.

The League though, they never blamed Twice for it. All of them were pissed of at Overhaul, the one who actually killed Magne. Toga was looking for ways to sabotage Overhaul, and Shigaraki said just to continue acting the way the feel like, that he “believes in them”, when he brought up how Twice should take responsibility.

No wonder Twice loves the League so much.

For him to be trusted, to have a place to belong, where there are many who are just as screwed up as he is, people who are also dealt a bad hand in life. Especially when he’s been alone for so long, with only his selves for company.

Alright, time for IT guy to die.

That’s not a command to kill. That’s torture. And did you say you want to recruit him? What kind of messed up recruitment is that?! It’s a REAL stark contrast to the friendly conversation with Giran.

Toga must be in so much pain right now ;_;

And she can’t move to save herself or Twice.

Why must you hurt them like this?

Ooh, that explains why Twice didn’t seem that scuffed up during the fight. I thought he and Compress just buy new clothes like Toga did.

He was scared of finding out the truth, to see if he’s real or not. It’s like ignorance is bliss, except that willful ignorance caused him not to put 100% into fights out of fear, and he even knew it’s a terrible decision but he’s just too scared to try.

But now, he finally have his confirmation.

And now, it’s time for the one-man army to take down the Liberation army.

BNHA 229 - ahhh!!!!

So! We skipped a certain flashback but this week we are treated to a very good one for a very great character.

Last week we see Twice being attacked by what looked like his clones, but are actually puppets by that dude from QLA. The fact that they are made to appear to look like him is enough to throw the already unstable Jun off, and it is later confirmed hat this was done on purpose:

And apparently they got the idea from Giran and they're rubbing it in his face. Admittedly they are very good villains because every move they make appears to be designed according to tedious data gathering--knowing their enemy so to speak. Doesn't make it any less creepy.

It sucks that they're thanking Giran for this info specifically. Twice after all was the most vocal in the league to help him out and from his inner monologue it seems that Giran knows enough to be seriously concerned for him :(

Shit, this is rough to watch. The clones are seriously killing her :( she's still alive, she's still flinching and her neck is about to be broken and Twice, in his confusion, can't do anything but watch and scream :( I feel so bad for him, if the puppets did their job really quickly here he would have blamed himself for Toga's death!!!

So a flashback scene on Jin's side occurs; we see that he's blamed for an accident involving his client and is fired from his job. He is also orphaned during his middle school years with no close relatives or friends and has always been alone. Loneliness is really the worst enemy for a lot of people--heck he makes clones of himself just to have someone to talk to and it helped somewhat but as we see later that isn't the solution. All he has to blame is himself again--his bad luck. It is a consistent theme for him it seems.

Even though this flashback scene is so hard to read... Gotta admit it's a little easier to look at because young Twice is good-looking isn't he? I don't see why they said he has a bad face??? He really looks like John Constantine, especially with that coat and cig, but without eyebrows!

Agh poor dude. How many times did he watch himself die over and over? The mental load on him must have been so bad

And we see here why Giran is so important to such a lonely man who has to resort to putting a bag on his head to avoid losing himself--he's the first person in a long time to offer friends, a place to belong, a place where he can be trusted (and not the other way around--a refreshing take on trust in my opinion!) I love that Giran describes the LoV as "a pretty lively group" (even though their goal is murder and chaos!) because they are a pretty interesting bunch who argue a lot but the Dynamics are getting more and more familial

The puppets break his arms and almost his legs, but he starts screaming that he's not disappearing. If I understand correctly, he's vindicated that he is actually the original Bubaigawara Jin and not a clone? And he finally realized that the puppets are not him either. And also,,, Toga is so important to him T_T from someone who felt perpetually alone, to have someone else he could consider important!!!

Now this scene is interesting to me for many reasons. One, hot damn Twice's potential to wreak havoc!!! I can't wait to see what his intact clones can do!!! I wonder now how it works, because even tho he is unmasked and fractured his clones do not seem like they are. So does that mean his injuries do not carry over to his clones?

Also the quote from The Killing Joke--"All it takes is one bad day". From what I remember, the Joker says this in the context of ordinary people down on their luck turning into villainy. Jin has had a lot of bad days and has continuously descended down and down to lunacy... and probably this is the worst day ever. But his burst of energy comes from a renewed desire to help save someone--which,,, isn't bad??? Or villainous? And he seems to have a renewed sense of self at the end! So did Hori turn that quote around? If so very interesting use of the quote lol, I wonder how much of it was done on purpose

So, even though I am miffed that Dabi is obviously not getting a flashback soon, I am happy about what I've read this week! I wonder what will happen next!!
