Pretty garments from French Napoleonic military uniforms

There was quite a lot of variety in the uniforms. Here is an account from a memoir of a soldier in Napoleon’s grande armée:

“I had been in the company for five months when, one Sunday, my chief squadron sergeant major, passing in review the preparations for inspection, stopped in front of me and, after looking me over from head to foot, said: ‘Parquin, you may have a handsome uniform, but you are not a soldier! Your gaze should be assured, look me squarely in the whites of the eyes; make me tremble if you can! You are in the army now!’”

Luna helped me take pictures, by sitting next to the book in the way of my camera for 5 whole minutes.

I was sure what charm to use so I'm using a little detachable metal piece right now to interchange them.

One of the interesting things is that because of a tiny bit of vinyl that wouldn't stick, I ended up melting the fake leather. So I decided to try adding the wrinkles back with a metal tool and it surprisingly worked! Here's the before (melted) and after (re-wrinklefied)

this is such an excellent kids book omg!! beautiful illustrations and so well written, uses a poetry of language that is sadly absent from a lot of kids fiction. such lovely insights on nature and care and family and survival....i highly recommend this :)) and i really wish i could write a book of my own like this some day!!
