Book Colin Bridgerton friendzones Penelope for a decade but after kissing her once, he’s so gone for her that literally the next time they’re alone he’s making up for lost time and has her topless, laid out on the back seat of a carriage with one of her breasts in his mouth and he’s climbed on top of her talking about wanting to sink into her and never letter her go…
Tumblr media
Shondaland, I love you but season 3 cannot get near fast enough.
We need to see the carriage scene you’re giving us.
I know, know: we’re not ready.
We may never be ready and yet, I assure you, WE ARE READY.

That bookshelf placing IS symbolic
No, but think: Nicki was Lestat’s first love. And what did Nicki love to do? Play his violin.
And what did Armand do to Nicki, when he was allegedly acting unstable? Cut off his hands. And then Armand locked Nicki in a tower.
And now we have Louis, Lestat’s immortal love. And what does Louis love to do? Read.
And what has Armand done to Louis? Make those books in the library not so easily accessible for someone who doesn’t have the cloud gift. And has Louis up in a nice high-rise “tower” apartment (It is clearly Armand’s apartment, not Louis’).
And before someone says it, there was no ladder in that room. Do you really think Louis could just bring one in there without Armand knowing? And something tells me those two bookshelves aren’t the only ones in that room. Something tells me there might be even more bookshelves above the two that we can see.
Doing things like this with men whom Lestat loves is something Armand does. The show having the bookcase like that is a clear parallel IMO.

"Am I offending you? Sorry I'm not obsessed with you like everyone else. I know that must be confusing for you."
Tumblr media
"Do you know what?" Henry says. "I think you are."
Tumblr media
Alex's mouth drops open, while the corner of Henry's turns smug and almost a little mean.
Tumblr media
"Only a thought," Henry says, tone polite. "Have you ever noticed I have never once approached you and have been exhaustively civil every time we've spoken? Yet here you are, seeking me out again." He takes a sip of his champagne. "Simply an observation."
Tumblr media
"What? I'm not - " Alex stammers. "You're the - "
Tumblr media
"Have a lovely evening, Alex," Henry says tersely, and turns to walk off.
Tumblr media
It drives Alex nuts that Henry thinks he gets to have the last word, and without thinking, he reaches out and pulls Henry's shoulder back.

The Lavender Lodge Case
This case is a literary masterpiece. It's got everything: suspense, action, humor, the skull being a snarky little shit

Kaz's eyes narrowed. "Sturmhond."
"He knows me!" Sturmhond said delightedly. He nudged Genya with an elbow. "I told you I'm famous."
Zoya blew out an exasperated breath. "Thank you. He's going to be twice as insufferable now."

Thinking about what a season 2 of the show would/could look like, I tend to assume there would be a little less antagonism with the Lucy/Holly relationship - similar to what they did with George in season 1. Mostly because I think the show makes Lucy a little less of a “Not Like Other Girls” girl (understandable, that’s generally a phase that young girls grow out of, and show!Lucy is older) but also because the Lucy/Holly rivalry was always *really* about Lucy’s relationship with Lockwood anyway, and I can see the show making that more explicit. But then I wonder if the poltergeist at Aickmere’s would still be a result of that Holly/Lucy fight, or maybe they’d bring Lockwood into it, or even the whole team. I’m a big fan of the trio fight in episode 4, so I’d be more than happy to see them play up the rifts between all of them near the end of that storyline. Would make Lucy’s leaving even more heartbreaking imo.

As a long term reader of Dune (I have read up till Heretics of Dune), it warms my heart to see the words Bene Gesserit and Kwisatz Haderach now being used by many more people around the world, and people walking into zoos' kangaroo mouse / jerboa habitats and going Muad'Dib.
Meanwhile, I also hope that in spite of the similarities - ie house versus house and politics - Dune is not A Song of Ice and Fire. There is a poignant difference, while ASOIAF was historical fantasy fiction, while Dune is a massively, sprawling story across not just years and kingdoms, but millenia and galaxies. Additionally, Dune is Herbert's nuanced attempt at tracing the possibilities of not only human exploration and colonisation of non-Earth planets outside of the Milky Way Galaxy, but also a tracking of how human history, politics, religion, cultures and languages would grow and converge and diverge and develop over time. You will see the characters speaking in variations of Arabic, of French, of English, of course - and with vestiges of Latin and Hebrew. The religion is a converged and developed mixture of Buddhism, Catholicism variants and Buddhism; you see Hadith being referenced, you see Bible books being referenced.

Dune: Messiah is one of my favourite books because there is Duncan Idaho, there is Chani and the twins, Paul's blinding and sight at first and then the emotional pain of Chani's loss making him lose that sight, and then Paul walking away into the desert. Alia Atriedes, Jessica leaving in full realisation of the horrors she has unleashed and so damn much. And Paul being increasingly aware of the Tleilaxu plots.

After You
“Dear brother,” Rhaenyra said, scathing in her arrogance. “I had hoped you were dead.”
Aegon inclined his head and looked down upon his sister, who came before him dragonless and throneless, fleeing from one home to the next, turned away from every door by the very allies she had so mistakenly spurned.
Who had sold even her father’s crown in her desperation.
He had tried to run, once. Had clawed and kicked his way out of his brother’s grasp to escape a dreaded fate.
“What sort of brother steals his sister’s crown?” he had pleaded, begging for them to let him go. Could they not see, he wondered, that the Iron Throne was a curse? Was he the only one who viewed it with not greed but terror?
And then, as his brother had dragged him back towards the castle, he had implored—
“What has Rhaenyra ever done to me?”
The Gods, in Their infinite cruelty, had seen fit to punish him for his naivete.
Aegon leaned forward, the scars on his side pulling taut at the motion. His never-ending agony flared, bubbling up from within him, and it only sharpened his focus.
A hand rested lightly upon his shoulder. And then another, and another. He did not look back to see who it was, for he already knew who he would find.
His dear sister, and both of his baby brothers, and his sweet little sons. Every single one of them stolen away from him because of the woman before him.
What had Rhaenyra ever done to him?
Everything.
He was going to feed her alive to his fucking dragon. And he was going to commit every second of it to memory.
“After you,” he said. “You are the elder.”
At this side, Sunfyre roared.

I saw a thing that described Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as about Snow going from a "likeable" young man to becoming the guy we know in The Hunger Games.
And... I don't think he's ever likeable.
In the very first scene, Tigris is redoing his shirt for him and he thinks about how she couldn't sell her body to pay for it because she's not attractive. He does feel bad about it later, but I think the intent is for you not to like him immediately. He's self-centered and prejudiced. You just understand why, given his difficult upbringing and family history.
But as you read, there is a chance that events & people, particularly Sejanus and Lucy Gray might, make him see reality and not the carefully constructed fake Capitol world.
Instead he ends up buying into Dr. Gaul's philosophy about humans being animals and the Hunger Games is what they need. The fact that Gaul has orchestrated much of his experiences during the book is sometimes acknowledged but it's never really examined closely. (If this belief is the "natural" order then why do you have to try so hard to make someone believe it?)
It's about how a "typical" awful person is molded into a monster. I think he's aware of it on some level. That's why he acknowledges that he shouldn't think negatively about Tigris' ability to sell her body and knows that recording Sejanus is wrong. He knows what a good person should be or do but choses the opposite.
TLDR, I don't feel bad for him at all.
