Like it's so funny that everyone (even blinks) acknowledge that black pinks main attraction is the influencer/ choose your character archetype to project onto thing. Like jennie=Parisienne bad girl hot girl lisa= blaccent baddie rose=idie girl too good for this world jisoo= girl next door/ rich heiress (they never really picked one for her and that more than anything is why she has the least fans. They never marketed her consistantly). They release the same song every other year cause they specifically market to the late teen insecure girl crowd so they just wait for old blinks to age out and new ones to grow up and start the process over again. Like I really am amazed it's so effective and such a good cash generating machine. You only need an mv and like 3 songs and 4 new brand deals every other year and the cycle goes on forever and RAKES in cash.

please ignore the mini meltdown i had over the critics choice awards. EEAO for BP and fraser for actor are exactly the kind of choices the critics choice would make in any normal year. but i do still stand by my notes on the SAG awards being a friendly show for both as well, and with wins, they could be a contender and a long distance spoiler respectively. with enough momentum, EEAO could vie for the underdog BP spot against banshees, and the underdog has won since moonlight’s 2017 win (excluding the covid year in 2021 in which a lot of the films were underdogs in general and maybe GDT’s the shape of water [2018] which was kind of schrodinger’s underdog).

#HOWEVERRRR #with the exception of the 2020 season’s juggernaut parasite #the underdog is typically the less popular film #it has less hype and makes less money #which is why its an underdog #what made parasite an underdog was the fact that it is an international film #more than anything #and it’s not a classical prestige drama/epic like 1917 was #which are usually the films that win best picture #EEAO made a lot of money and has a lot of hype and is backed by the darling studio of critics and film twitter (a24) #its only underdog quality is that its nonconventional and that it boasts a majority asian cast #so we’ll just have to see how it shapes out #also worth noting….besides 2021’s nomadland which swept pretty widely #the underdog BP winner has failed to win a best acting award #and also excluding the shape of water for reasons i just said #all the underdogs with the exception of green book i think have won best director or best screenplay #however shape of water did fail to win a best acting award #considering michelle yeoh and colin farrell are both early contenders for best acting awards….this might merely be incidental #banshees is ineligible for the WGA so that might hurt martin mcdonagh’s screenplay chances #but we shall see!

I'm sorry to bother you, but I was just wondering if you have any advice on bringing a character concept into a consistent, compelling character. I have so many character concepts, but I always struggle with giving them unique, consistent identities and voices, and you're so great at that. Thank you so much for creating such wonderful stories!

u r too kind to me. i am no expert, but this is generally my strategy when i'm writing/creating characters:

Remember that characters are more than stereotypes. If I'm making an FFXIV player who loves to shill, I'm not going to make shilling all that he is. That's how you get one-note characters that get a little boring. I try to picture a three dimensional personality that fits around that, even if all parts of it aren't used in text. Like, if I picture all the people who have shilled FFXIV to me over the years, what do they have in common? Quieter IRL, a bit tired of bullies, bad eating habits, etc etc.

Find a way to connect it to something you're familiar with. You write what you know best. If your character is an architecture student, but you know nothing about it, do some research about the field while also connecting that love of architecture he has with a love you might have for something else. You'll be able to write about his love for it more believably if you're tying it to something else you yourself adore.

Life hack: base the character on a person you know in real life. When you base characters off of characters that already exist, I think you run the risk of it not feeling authentic (but that's not always the case). The entire cast of BP was based on a server I was in ages ago -- the characters weren't carbon copies of the people I knew, but those people were good reference points for typing style and initial personality quirks for them all.

Find the fine line between similar characters and emphasize that. Felix already gets a lot of comparisons to Onionthief (deservedly so) but we're making them distinct in the following ways: Felix is colder, Onionthief is less mature, Onionthief is bullied more often in chat than Felix is, Felix is quieter, Felix is less judgmental of mistakes, etc. You find those deeper details that really separate characters and create... well, back to point #1. You create three-dimensional people that could exist in real life.

Edit to add: talk a lot to strangers. You will learn a lot about the variety of people in the world, and the way they interact realistically, if you brave the world and meet new people.
