So, over the last bit of 2023 I tried to throw myself into romance books with the tropes I love because the world had especially turned to an even greater level of shit. Bought a bunch of them and read it. They were…okay? But the overriding thought I had when I read them was “there are much better stories, authors, plots and character development, even PWP, in the braime tag on AO3”. I stopped buying these mediocre books and am rather rereading some of the best braime stories. Which is just to say, this fandom has the best writers and stories and I am so grateful to you all for feeding my insane obsession that I shouldn’t be having at nearly 50 ahahahaha.

i mean i do think briensa is considered a crack ship bc they haven’t met yet in book canon and brienne isn’t shipped enough outside of braime bc no one has taste except me and three other people in this tugboat with me. check my girls-

i have a hard time defining "crackship" largely because people will call anything a crack ship nowadays (*cue grandpa voice*) and back in my day people only called stuff that was like person/inanimate object or crossover ships crack but now you can ship two characters who have interacted, think about each other on several occasions, and have a bunch of narrative parallels and you get told its a crackship. personally, so long as they interact one (1) time i say it's got basis in canon!!!!!!!!

probably my most obscure is Black Aly and Alyn Oakenfist for F&B and Grey Worm & Jeyne Poole for the main series. I had a theory that the pact of ice and fire was a wife swap thing so not only would Jace marry Sara and his first born daughter would go north but also that Baela would marry Cregan as well because I thought anything short of Cregan getting some sort of dragon - literal or metaphorical - right now was dumb. egg on my face i guess alskjdf anyway i think more interesting for baela but i also thought it would be really interesting for black aly and alyn oakenfist especially considering his affairs - "i left my religion, my home, my entire life behind to marry this bastard turned legitimate that charmed me and he has the audacity to cheat on me with another valyrian" really hits for me, especially considering how close benjicot and addam were. once again, f&b is full of missed opportunities (to me).

the grey worm/jeyne poole thing came to me in a dream where grey worm and jon became friends and grey worm stayed in the north and married jeyne poole because they both have similar, extreme traumas and aren't noble born, and sansa gave jeyne away since all of jeyne's family was dead and grey worm started calling himself grey worm poole (i did say it was a dream) and now i just really really need something like that to happen to both of them or i'll die.

i've recently seen someone who ships braime on twitter say they're unpopular and in fact twincest is one the couples that goes viral the most on it, and i'm really in confusion, 'cause the only times i've seen twincest going viral is in correlation to a hotd ship or storyline, idk, it's too delulu to me thinking j/c are anywhere near as popular as braime.

Say what? I don't even do Twitter and I can tell you that's total BS. J/C are definitely not a beloved popular ship the way J/B is. What they are is a very well known twincest ship from a popular book series/show and for that reason they tend to go viral as a joke/when they're being mocked not because people seriously support that relationship. Similar to what you mentioned…when HOTD was airing I saw a bunch of reposted anti J/C tweets here on tumblr with tens of thousands of likes. So yes I don't doubt they go viral but that doesn't mean they're a well loved ship.

def not! jaime would hate it to be a secret first of all. he's had enough of that in his lifetime. like i think that's one of the main things jb would have to agree about if they go into the relationship because i don't think jaime would want to be kept as a secret again--which brienne would understand like i think jaime would tell her (even if not in the jb relationship) at some point abt his relationship with cersei and how it was for him. for brienne though i can see the take of her wanting it to be a secret because of how insecure she gets but also NOT because she yearns to be romanced! and to have romance! she craves it! so i don't think their relationship will be a secret. it'll be lowkey maybe but it won't be something they'll hide. like what i said last night, i don't see their dynamic changing much if they go into the relationship. like i think they'll act mostly the same with the bickering and all and people won't suspect anything except when they start kissing

I'm so late to this ship like, yea I loved JB in the show and hated how it ended but I was not emotionally invested. literally I clued into the fandom because of Olivia Dade's book Spoiler Alert. And not because while reading I knew there was heavy inspo from Jaime & Brienne (I didn't, I just knew it was inspired by GOT). Nope it was the mention of the Braime fandom in the author's note and I was like "cool what's a Braime???" And then I figured it out, read a bunch of fics and now I'm an absolute goner for these two idiots. To the point where I might subject myself to reading ASOIAF even if twow never comes 🙃

Oh but heck it I'll choose a show moment that first made me ship Jaime x Brienne: probably either the dinner with Roose at Harrenhal or when Brienne rides away from Jaime and King's Landing with his sword, the horse he gave her and the armor he had made for her.

obviously the enemies to lovers trope, but i also really liked the forbidden love trope they went through with the whole Chris rule thing.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

they love and like each other!!! it's not exactly a friends to lovers ship, at least not a long friendship before they started dating, but they really and truly enjoy each other's company so much, and on top of that they're in love... if that ain't goal then what is?? they communicate well, they understand each other's passions even though they don't share all of them (lil sebastian and star trek come to mind on either side) and they're equals, which is not something that's often seen in het ships. i adore them.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

i feel like i never know how to define it as popular or not, because i don't really care about whether or not other fans agree with me (we're all allowed to have headcanons and it's okay if they don't match perfectly). but one thing i wish we'd seen more is the triplets!! as much as i enjoyed the least season, the time gap before it made me miss the domestic!benslie family. i cherish that deleted triplets dinner scene to this day 🙌🏻

they made each other grow, and that's a fucking Kink™️ of mine. Brienne went from a guarded morally rigid knight to someone who's still loyal and good, but who understands better how the world isn't white and dark around her (and how that especially applies to Jaime). Jaime was always, in my opinion, a "good" person (my boi Armin would say that doesn't mean anything, but i haven't slept in a while so allow me), he just played a role he hated most of his life and Brienne helped him realize his true self could be honorable and inspiring and not unrealistic or stupid. also the bath scene and all their goodbyes they thought were the last and omfgggg THAT KNIGHTING SCENE AJZMGLKFLMMRGML

I just want to preface this that I was 12-13 in this era. Like I really was just a really lonely stupid kid, and I was struggling with coming out in middle school and feeling isolated and lonely. so I saw a gif of an asshole with a bad haircut and I was like he’s mine now. I really loved him for many years. I can’t explain it.

I shaved half my head at 13. yeah. I also have one of the most comprehensive tags of his band days from 2004-2007 and half the time idk what to do with all those images bc someone might want them one day? again idek

aside from that the “edm” fandom was awful. Real people shipping and fights over it. Rampant misogyny. People actually hated Ellie Goulding for simply dating a few of the guys. At age 13 I snarkily posted that there seemed to only be white men that ppl obsessed over and I got accused of racefaking.

the whole thing came to a head when skrillex teamed up with diplo. I always got really bad vibes off that fucker, and then suddenly they’re releasing bad pop music with Justin Bieber and objectifying women. I got into several fights, bc no one wanted to admit that diplo was actively not a good role model to a bunch of fucking tweens. I feel so bad for all of us, bc we were just dumb kids. So one day I changed my URL and settings to make it hard to find my blog and never looked back. Since then I was a Star Wars blog, a marvel blog, x men blog, batfam blog then braime and finally the sexy talented vertigo girly you all know! (I’ve had many cringe phases)

I actually fully stopped listening to skrillex cold turkey in 2021 bc I no longer recognized him. He had gotten much older, grosser, started hanging around Jordan Peterson and was starting to be weird about women. so I don’t miss that part of my life. I take a lot of power in the women I look up to now.

How come you're more accepting of SanSan than Bra/ime? If Brienne deserves better than Jaime, then Sansa deserves better than Sandor. If Braime is bad because of the age difference, so is Sansan.

I don't care about SanSan because I don't care about either Sansa or Sandor as characters.  I don't ship it, I don't have a problem with people who ship it. I am indifferent to everything Sansa.

SanSan is a canon ship. The author has mentioned playing around with it in the books. Sansa is imagining kissing the Hound and making up kisses - the Unkiss - in her mind. Sansa is attracted to the Hound. They have a beauty and beast theme.

However, I find it ridiculous that SanSan shippers (Sansa is 11/12 when the Hound first meets her) are policing the fandom on how Arya should not be called 'pretty' because apparently that's sexualizing her and we are therefore pedophiles for pointing out that both Ned and Jon called Arya 'pretty' in the books.

And secondly considering that some of the most popular ships in the fandom are SanSan and Braime, it's ridiculously hypocritical for people to single out, mock and bully Rhaegar/Lyanna shippers for age gaps and attack people because their ships have abuse or incest or consent issues and all that when 90% of the ships in this series are problematic.

With respect to Braime, I actually like Brienne as a character. I am invested in Brienne and her journey. I think Brienne deserves a much better person who loves her for who she is. However, just like with SanSan, Braime is a canon ship. While I dislike the ship, I have no issues with the people who ship it. I acknowledge that Jaime is important to Brienne and her character arc. Unless it's in response to an anon ask, I rarely talk about Braime. It's just not my cup of tea.

So that's the difference. I don't care about SanSan because I don't care about either Sansa or Sandor as characters. On the other hand, I like Brienne and as a fan I want to see her character interact with another kinder, handsome chap or a fellow lady who likes the sword.

This comes back to my point about how I can only ship characters I like. I ship Jonrya because I like both Jon and Arya. I ship Jon and Dany because I like both Jon and Dany. I don't ship Braime because I don't like Jaime. I don't ship SanSan because I couldn't care less about Sansa or Sandor.

I don't understand shippers who hate one half of their pairing - like Jonsa for ex. It makes no sense to me. And also Jonsa is just all around terrible. A bunch of toxic shippers who sit around hating every character not named Sansa in order to somehow shove their obnoxious crack ship into the books with badly written fanfiction masquerading as 'Metas' and theories.

I may not like SanSan but it IS canon unlike Jonsa.

I can understand why someone who likes Sansa does not want to ship Sansa with all the characters that GRRM has paired with her - Sandor, Tyrion, Littlefinger, Harry the Heir etc. And hence Jonsa. Unfortunately for these Sansa fans, Jonsa is not the story the author is telling. Sansa has no connection with Jon whatsoever.

I would love to see Brienne and Alysanne Mormont meet in the future (I liked Aly's interaction with Asha in ADwD) and think she would have good chemistry with Brienne.  Brienne fell for Renly because he was kind towards her. Maybe if no Lord learns to appreciate her for who she is, it will be a Lady. Maybe she meets Willas Tyrell who is intelligent and kind. As much as I loathe the show, Brienne/Tormund >>> Braime. Tormund appreciated Brienne for the Goddess she is, even if she didn’t reciprocate. However you don't see me writing metas about how Bri/Aly is going to happen in the books do you? Because Brienne/Alysanne or Brienne/Willas Tyrell or Brienne/Tormund has as much chance of happening in the books as Jonsa.

So Jonsa is never going to be canon and hating on Arya, Dany and any character close to Jon and mutating book Jon into an unrecognizable blob is not going to help and all it is doing is turning the rest of fandom against them.

GRRM is an old white guy writing the popular 90's bodice ripper trope of 'forced seduction' with his couples - yes, even with Jon/Ygritte. Ygritte is older and essentially forces Jon to sleep with her. GRRM thinks Dany/Drogo is consensual seduction. Yes, this is problematic. However many shippers also like this trope and that is why they enjoy SanSan. Does not mean SanSan shippers are endorsing abuse. Fiction is not reality.

The most annoying thing about Braime/SanSan ships is the Sandor and Jaime apologism from some people. Basically, folks who try and twist things to make Jaime/Sandor out to be nice guys and write long posts about why Sandor and Jaime trying to kill children is justified and makes sense and poor, poor bby Jaime was manipulated and used by evil bitch Cersei and it’s not his fault etc.  I would rather folks acknowledge that these characters have done terrible things and GRRM is writing a pretty basic, old fashioned ‘the love of a woman changes them for the better’ romance arc. Nothing new or trope busting about these ships. They have been around since forever in romance novels.

if anything changes i may move this date, but as of now, i think we've got a decent trickle of submissions per day to close the form on july 14th. the situation is this: i have a bunch of submissions, but only 11 character sets with more than one submission. if the number of multiply submitted pairs remains low-ish, i may switch to allowing characters with single submissions to enter the competition, possibly putting ones i'm unsure about up to a vote as to whether they qualify. i think i'll only be able to come to a decision on what to do in terms of qualification after the form closes and i have a solid, unchanging set of data to work with. and leaving it open for a couple weeks gives some time for the makeup of submissions to change and for this blog to get more followers/voters lol. thanks for reading and sticking around!

DC Universe is in shambles. Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts flopped and will not continue. With those two big franchises failing, no wonder Warner Bros is now hoping Game of Thrones will save their ass. They obviously forgot the S8 backlash though. WB is so out of touch with the audience...that's why they keep failing hard.

Thank goodness this Game of Thrones sequel is about Jon Snow and not some character I actually care about lol. I hate that Brienne was mentioned as a possible character comeback though. Dumb and DUmber's HBO shill James Hibberd needs to keep my girl Bri out of his damn mouth. I don't believe at all that Bri will actually be in this Jon Snow sequel series and why should she be? I'm guessing the show will be about Jon Snow's new adventures with the wildlings.

I'm surprised Kit Harington has decided to revisit Jon Snow. Is his career really doing that bad? For him to go back like this just tells me that his Black Knight role isn't going to be as big as we once thought. Maybe Marvel decided to cut back on it since Eternals didn't do well.

Anywho the only GoT related spinoff I would care about is The Braime Bunch and that would need a lot of work considering they'd have to get Larry back to a respectable place to at least resemble book Jaime in some way lol or at least to remove a lot of the damage Game of Thrones did to his character.
