During the ride back to the hotel, Ginger fell asleep, her head falling against Tangerine's shoulder. The man had no objections, one arm around her waist while the other sported a cigarette. During the ride, the two brothers decided to talk about the mission.
"Did it go well? Retrieving the bloody flash drive?" Tangerine asked. He took a drag from his cigarette, waiting a second before exhaling, being careful to not let the smoke drift into Ginger's face. The taller man stuck the cigarette out the window, flicking it so that the extended pile of ash fell away before bringing the stick of nicotine back inside the vehicle.
"Went smoother than I expected, that's for damn sure. Figured we would get caught at some point." Lemon said.
"Well, the job isn't over yet, Lemon. We can't hold our breaths yet. We are far from the finish line." Lemon peeked into the rear view mirror, catching the sight of Tangerine and Ginger. Then his eyes focused on the cigarette between Tangerine's fingers.
"Get hot ashes on the seats and I'll kill you." Tangerine only mocked his brother, rolling his eyes.
"No worries, you twit. I'm not getting hot ashes anywhere in this fucking vehicle."
The brothers chatted some more until they finally reached the hotel. Lemon got out of the vehicle first. Tangerine gently poke and prodded Ginger's side.
"C'mon love. Let's get inside and get you to rest." He said.
"I want a bath first." She mumbled.
"Then you have a bath. But let's get you inside, yea? Because I'm pretty sure me carrying a gorgeous but sleepy woman in my arms might raise some concern." Ginger grumbled, sitting up and fixing her dress before following Tangerine out of the back seat. He held a hand out for her to take, letting her right herself before he let go and the two went shoulder to shoulder inside the hotel behind Lemon.
Once in the room, Lemon wasted no time in putting the flash drive in a safe place and being the first to get ready for bed. Ginger, on the other hand, grabbed her pajamas, which consisted of a tank top and a pair of short shorts, and walked into the bathroom to take a bath. She had also seemingly forgotten that she wanted to talk to Tangerine.
Tangerine sat on the edge of the other bed, staring at his makeshift bed on the couch. His eyes drifted to the bathroom door, where the water could be heard filling the tub. Letting out a sigh, he fiddled with his tie, loosening it from around his neck and undoing it, walking over to set it on the arm of the couch. Tangerine unbuttoned his suit vest, slipping it off of his back and putting that too on the arm of the couch. He unbuttoned the top few buttons of his white dress shirt, his eyes moving to the door of the bathroom, still curious and slightly concerned about what Ginger wanted to talk about.
After minutes of debating and hearing the tub faucet finally turn off, signaling that the tub was full, he grabbed a clean pair of boxers and the sweats he wears to bed and made his way to the bathroom, grabbing an ashtray and a cigarette on the way. Tangerine knocked softly, alerting her of his presence before walking in.
Ginger looked up through half tired eyes, finally realizing that she forgot that she wanted to talk to him. She took in his current attire, watching as he put his change of pajamas on the bathroom counter next to her own. He set the ashtray on the floor next to the tub, before fishing the lighter from his dress pant pockets, putting that on the floor as well. Tangerine stuck the butt of the cigarette in his mouth. Ginger rested her head against the back of the tub, watching as Tangerine finished unbuttoning his dress shirt. He caught her gaze as he pulled the shirt off and set on the closed lid of the toilet, before proceeding to shuck off the rest of the clothes he was wearing.
As he walked towards the tub, Ginger sat forward, letting Tangerine get in behind her. This was a common occurrence between the two, whether or not Lemon was with them. He let his legs rest on either side of her body, letting the warm water envelope his body. Ginger rested back against his toned chest, feeling him shift as he reached down for his lighter. She closed her eyes briefly, taking in the feeling and the comfortable silence that fell upon the two, the only noise currently being Tangerine as he lit his cigarette and the occasional movement of water when one of them moved. Ginger opened her eyes after several moments. Her eyes found the tattoo that was on his left forearm as it rested on the edge of the tub.
"What are your thoughts on a relationship? Like a long term one?" Ginger finally broke the silence. Tangerine glanced down at her, taking a drag of his cigarette, moving his head so that he wasn't dispersing the smoke near her.
"Depends." He answered.
"On what?"
"Who it's with." She turned her head slightly from where it sat against his shoulder in order to get a better look at his face. Tangerine looked down at her.
"Do you have a preference?" She asked. He raised an eyebrow.
"Preference for what? That could be for anything Love." She turned her head away from him, biting her lip.
"Has there been anyone that you ever thought you could spend your life with? For however long that may be due to our jobs?" She asked. Tangerine took another drag of his cigarette. Ginger looked back at him, watching as he blew the smoke out.
"There is one." He answered, looking at his cigarette as he flicked it, the two seemingly watching as the ashes fell into the ashtray. Ginger was silent for a moment, relishing in the rise and fall of Tangerine's chest and the heart beat she felt against her back.
"Who?" She asked. Ginger already knew the answer, but she wanted to hear him say it, and he knew that.
"You know who." He answered. Tangerine watched as her fingers moved up to touch the tattoo on his forearm. Ginger let her fingers gently trace over the details of the tattoo. Tangerine soaked in the domesticity of the situation, relishing in the moment, unsure of when they would have one like this again.
Ginger paused the movements of her fingers, looking at Tangerine again. He looked down at her, his eyes drifting to her lips and lingering there. It was Ginger who initiated the kiss. Tangerine leaned into the kiss, making sure to keep a good hold on the cigarette between his fingers. His other arm moved to wrap around her waist. One of her hands settled on his cheek, the other moving down the hand settled on her stomach. The kiss was slow and sensual, the two pouring every ounce of love they had into it.
When the two finally pulled away, they rested their foreheads against each other, their noses brushing against the other. Ginger was the first to open her eyes, Tangerine following. Her eyes searched his blue ones for any possibility that maybe he didn't want this. She had only let out a relieved sigh as she laced her fingers with his underneath the water, her other hand playing with his hair.
"I love you." She said softly. Tangerine captured her lips in another kiss.
"Love you too Darling." He mumbled against her lips.
After some time in which Tangerine finished his cigarette and the two sat in comfortable silence, consisting of Ginger twisting the silver band that still sat on his ring finger, the two finally got out of the tub and made their way out of the bathroom.
Both, now in their pajamas, walked towards the bed Ginger claimed as her own. She walked to her side of the bed, after telling Tangerine he didn't have to sleep on the couch, who was relieved. Ginger crawled into the bed, turning onto her side and taking in Tangerine's appearance, mostly how the sweats hung low on his hips. He caught her lingering gaze, a subtle smirk forming on his face as he set the ashtray and the rest of his cigarettes on the nightstand.
"You know those will kill you, right?" She asked as he crawled into the bed. Ginger scooted over so that she laid next to Tangerine, who wrapped her in his muscled arms.
"Yea. But I'm sure that there are other things that will likely kill me before those will." He said. Ginger nodded in agreement..
"True." She said, settling her head against his chest. Tangerine pressed a kiss to her temple as she let out a yawn.
"Goodnight, Love."
"Goodnight Tang." It only took a few seconds before the silence was disturbed as the two laid there.
“Love?” Tangerine asked.
“Hmm.” she hummed into his chest.
“What about your ring?” He asked, opening his eyes briefly to look down at her in his arms. Ginger went silent for several moments before she finally answered him. Tangerine had almost wondered if she was sleeping already.
“Keep it.” she answered.
And with that, the two fell asleep wrapped their arms, and when Lemon woke up first and noticed, he definitely snapped some photos.
