The night was eerily quiet, the only sound breaking the silence being the occasional rustle of leaves outside. You tossed and turned restlessly in your bed, mind plagued by unsettling nightmares that refused to let you find solace in sleep.
With a stifled whimper, you finally gave up. Sitting up in bed, you rubbed your eyes tiredly, feeling a shiver run down your spine as the remnants of the nightmare lingered in your mind.
Seeking comfort, you knew exactly where to find it. Slipping out of your room, you tiptoed down the dimly lit hallway towards Joker's room, your heart racing with a mix of anticipation and apprehension.
As you reached his door, you hesitated for a moment, your hand hovering over the doorknob.
What if he was already asleep?
What if he didn't want to be disturbed?
But then, you pushed aside your doubts and gently turned the knob, pushing the door open with a soft creak. The room was bathed in a faint glow from the moonlight filtering in through the window, casting long shadows across the floor.
Joker was sitting on the edge of his bed, his back turned to you as he stared out into the night. His shoulders were tense, a faint furrow marring his brow, betraying the inner turmoil he was no doubt wrestling with.
"Ha Jun oppa?" you called out tentatively, your voice barely above a whisper.
He started slightly at the sound of your voice, his head snapping around to look at you. But as soon as he saw you standing there, a small, vulnerable figure in the doorway, his expression softened into one of concern.
"Hey, kiddo," he said softly, patting the space beside him on the bed, "What's wrong?"
Without a word, you crossed the room and climbed onto the bed beside him, curling up against his side as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close.
"It was just a nightmare," you murmured, your voice muffled against his chest, "I couldn't sleep."
Joker held you tighter, his grip warm and reassuring. "I'm here now," he whispered, pressing a kiss to the top of your head, "You're safe with me."
For a while, you simply lay there in silence, the sound of Joker's steady heartbeat lulling you into a sense of peace. In his arms, the nightmares faded away, replaced by a comforting warmth that chased away the darkness.
And as you drifted off to sleep, wrapped in the safety of Joker's embrace, you knew that no matter what nightmares haunted your dreams, you would always find solace in the love and protection of your older brother.

On top of everything else in Dark Rise, the Collar raises so many questions for me.
Is Anharion/James conscious while wearing it? Does he feel as if he’s asleep, or just that his actions are not his own? Does he think the things that Sarcean/Will tell him to? Can Sarcean/Will just tell Anharion/James to think for himself? Can Sarcean/Will take it off, since it was he who created it?
I hope we get answers in the third book because this is what’s keeping me up right now instead of sleeping.
