The Ethereal Ball is nigh! The planning committee is hard at work preparing for the second biggest event of the year and asks for volunteers to help make it happen! There’s plenty that needs to be done, from picking out the menu to securing the supplies you need for the dance cards.

It may have seemed odd, at first; the idea of the Ethereal Ball certainly wasn’t new to either of them, and from Micaiah’s initial research in the library it had been held in the same banquet hall for as long as the tradition had existed.

But if Micaiah knew anything about her classmate and right-hand to the next emperor of Adrestia, (and really she knew very little), it was that he was meticulous.

So while Micaiah may not have known Hubert well, she could admire that - and besides, for a mission like this camaraderie was hardly a must.

so much of dedue’s overprotectiveness of dimitri is a trauma response and i don’t think people talk about that enough. bc dedue lost his entire family in one day, and the only reason dedue is still alive is because dimitri protected him. and dedue was only a teenager—i forget the math but i think he was only 13 or 14?—and had probably never held a weapon with the intent of actually using it before.

and of course dedue was a child and was a victim of the tragedy himself, but you know he kept looking back on that day in the years that followed and thinking that if he had just been stronger that maybe he could have saved them. (if, perhaps, he’d had a crest like dimitri, for example…)

then dimitri brought him back to faerghus, because he had nowhere else to go, and dedue saw him abused and mistreated by his uncle—the very man to blame for the tragedy of duscur, even if dedue didn’t know it at the time—and dedue even mentions rufus having attempted to assassinate dimitri before. multiple times.

dedue lost both his family and his homeland in one fell swoop, and suddenly the only thing dedue has is dimitri. who not only saved his life, but is also the only person in this wretched country to treat him with kindness, at least until his time at the academy.

dimitri isn’t just “the boy who saved his life.” he’s also the closest thing to family dedue has left, and the thought of losing him, too, terrifies dedue beyond words.

Casualties were just another part of war, and the chances of any of them being added to the ever growing list of names was something they all seemed well aware of. But now, incipient emotions bloomed and the others were more than just necessary pieces to line Edelgard's lofty goals with. Did that render him a failure? The thought whorled more frequently as the war raged on with no end in sight. Regardless of how one could answer that question, it didn't stop him from seeing Linhardt as beyond the definition of an ally. They were friends. Sort of. Certainly they both had their own methods and they often couldn't find working solutions together, but slowly and surely, Hubert began to appreciate who Linhardt was at the end of the day. And now, as they both sat opposite each other in the medical tent with wounds of their own, he realized there may not be another day for him to admit that. ❝ I suppose that will serve as a lesson of what not to do in the midst of battle, ❞ he tried to sarcastically reprimand the younger, only to wince and hiss in pain afterward. Perhaps Hubert should heed his own advice. ❝ Our fighting numbers are still strong, but loss would be heavy if you were one of the lost. I do not mean that in a strictly strategical sense.
