I forgot y’all don’t follow me on twt but I’m currently in tears over the pics from jwst like I have spent my whole fucking life obsessed w space like someone literally plucked me out the middle of the cosmos and stuck me here. I was in 2nd grade checking out all these confusing ass academic texts every single day and this old crackress like giggled at me at the check out desk like you won’t understand any of it and one y’all we’re wrong bc you can just learn words you don’t understand and two it’s quite literally none of your business if I check out these same books for the next six months until I understand this shit. anyway going from all that based off the Hubble pics which look so blurry now even though they’re literally some of the most gorgeous things ever captured on camera, from making every possible school project come back to the Eagle Nebula and the pillars of creation, from dealing with the worst most incompetent racist teacher to take an astronomy class senior year of HS hoping I’d a) learn anything new at all and b) talk to other ppl abt space unprompted, from showing my mom those breathtaking dark ass Hubble pics to THIS

Bob Pardo, Vietnam War pilot famous for Pardo’s Push maneuver, dies at 89
Jonathan Snyder
Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Pardo is known for carrying out an unorthodox aviation maneuver, later coined the Pardo Push, to save the lives of his wingmen during a bombing mission over Vietnam on March 10, 1967.

Bob Pardo, who left his mark in Air Force history for using an unorthodox maneuver, Pardo’s Push, to save his wingmen’s lives during a bombing mission over Vietnam, died Dec. 5. He was 89.
On March 10, 1967, Pardo and weapons officer 1st Lt. Steve Wayne were on a bombing run on an enemy steel mill north of Hanoi in an F-4C Phantom, flying alongside Capt. Earl Aman and 1st Lt. Robert Houghton.
The target — North Vietnam’s only steel mill dedicated to war materiel — was heavily guarded by anti-aircraft guns and artillery.
During the mission, ground fire damaged both Pardo’s and Aman’s Phantoms, causing both to lose fuel. However, Aman lost too much to return safely to base, and Pardo knew he had to act quickly, according to a 2007 recounting of the mission by Gen. T. Michael Mosely, then the chief of staff of the Air Force.
“I knew if I didn’t do anything, they would have to eject over North Vietnam into enemy territory, and that would have resulted in their capture for sure,” Pardo said in a 2015 interview for the Air Force Veterans in Blue program. “At that time, if you were captured by civilians, you were probably going to be murdered on the spot.”
Pardo decided to push Aman’s plane using the nose of his aircraft against Aman’s tailhook, a retractable hook on the underside of the plane used for arrested landings.
He managed to decrease the rate of descent of Aman’s jet by 1,500 feet per minute, and they successfully reached friendly territory. Both air crews safely ejected over the Laotian border and were rescued by friendly forces.

The Air Force at first reprimanded Pardo for further damaging his aircraft. Twenty years later, he received the Silver Star for his actions in the aerial rescue.
Pardo was born in 1934 in Herne, Texas, and began his Air Force career in 1954 at age 19. After flight school, he flew the Phantom during the Vietnam War, logging 132 flying missions.
He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1974. In addition to the Silver Star, his awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Air Medal with twelve Oak Leaf Clusters and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Pardo is survived by his wife, Kathryn, whom he married on March 7, 1992, five children and 10 grandchildren.

1938 - PAULINE JOHNSON and FELICE BOUDREAUX, sisters, were once slaves on the plantation of Dermat Martine, near Opelousas, Louisiana. As their owners were French, they are more inclined to use a Creole patois than English.
"Us was both slaves on de old plantation close to Opelousas," Pauline began. As the elder of the two sisters she carried most of the conversation, although often referring to Felice before making positive statements.
"I was 12 year old when freedom come and Felice was 'bout six. Us belonged to Massa Dermat Martine and the missy's name Mimi. They raise us both in the house and they love us so they spoil us. I never will forget that. The little white chillen was younger than me, 'bout Felice's age. They sho' had pretty li'l curly black hair.
"Us didn't have hard time. Never even knowed hard time. That old massa, he what you call a good man.
"Us daddy was Renee and he work in the field. The old massa give him a mud and log house and a plot of ground for he own. The rain sho' never get in that log house, it so tight. The furniture was homemake, but my daddy make it good and stout.
"Us daddy he work de ground he own on Sunday and sold the things to buy us shoes to put on us feet and clothes. The white folks didn't give us clothes but they let him have all the money he made in his own plot to get them.
"Us mama name Marguerite and she a field hand, too, so us chillen growed up in the white folks house mostly. 'Fore Felice get big enough to leave I stay in the big house and take care of her.
"One day us papa fall sick in the bed, just 'fore freedom, and he kep' callin' for the priest. Old massa call the priest and just 'fore us papa die the priest marry him and my mama. 'fore dat they just married by the massa's word.
"Felice and me, us have two brothers what was born and die in slavery, and one sister still livin' in Bolivar now. Us three uncles, Bruno and Pophrey and Zaphrey, they goes to the war. Them three dies too young. The Yankees stole them and make them boys fight for them.
"I never done much work but wash the dishes. They wasn't poor people and they uses good dishes. The missy real particular 'bout us shinin' them dishes nice, and the silver spoons and knives, too.
"Them white people was good Christian people and they christen us both in the old brick Catholic church in Opelousas. They done torn it down now. Missy give me pretty dress to get christen in. My godmother, she Mileen Nesaseau, but I call her 'Miran'. My godfather called 'Paran.'
"On Sunday mornin' us fix our dress and hair and go up to the missy's looking-glass to see if us pretty enough go to church. Us goes to Mass every Sunday mornin' and church holiday, and when the cullud folks sick massa send for the priest same's for the white folks.
"We wears them things on the strings round the neck for the good of the heart. They's nutmeg.
"The plantation was a big, grand place and they have lots of orange trees. The slaves pick them oranges and pack then down on the barrel with la mosse (Spanish moss) to keep them. They was plenty pecans and figs, too.
"In slavery time most everybody round Opelousas talk Creole. That make the words hard to come sometime. Us both talk that better way than English.
"Durin' the war, it were a sight. Every mornin' Capt. Jenerette Bank and he men go a hoss-back drillin' in the pasture and then have drill on foot. A white lady take all us chillen to the drill ground every mornin'. Us take the lunch food in the basket and stay till they done drill out.
"I can sing for you the song they used to sing:
"O, de Yankee come to put de nigger free,
Says I, says I, pas bonne;
In eighteen-sixty-three,
De Yankee get out they gun and say,
Hurrah! Let's put on the ball.
"When war over none the slaves wants leave the plantation. My mama and us chillen stays on till old massa and missy dies, and then goes live on the old Repridim place for a time.
"Both us get marry in that Catholic church in Opelousas. As for me, it most too long ago to talk about. His name Alfred Johnson and he dead 12 years. Our youngest boy, John, go to the World War. Two my nephews die in that war and one nephew can't walk now from that war.
"Felice marry Joseph Boudreaux and when he die she come here to stay with me. There's more hard time now than in the old day for us, but I hope things get better.

Moving a person by their waist for Capt Pike?
Tumblr media
When your shifts let off late, it's not surprising to arrive to a packed kitchen. Nearly everyone is settled with plates and chatting, save for Uhura, Spock, and Pike. That's not so surprising, either. You're almost certain that Uhura and Spock only just got off of shift as well—and Pike is nearly always the last to fill his plate.
With the wealth of distraction, you take a moment to just...Look. The captain looks as calm and in his element as he does when he's sitting in the captain's chair. Whatever joke Uhura makes has Spock's brow rising, and Pike's head tipping back with a laugh. The sight makes your stomach flutter.
"A-hem."
You jump at the sound of the clearing throat and glance around to find Chapel and Ortegas just a couple of feet away, watching you with mischievous smiles. Your face goes hot at being caught, but you force yourself to have a blank expression.
"See something you like?" Chapel asks.
"Something you'd like a bite of?" Ortegas adds. You scowl, mumbling, "Oh, shut up," As you hurry away, leaving their snickers behind. You skirt past Spock, murmuring a greeting as he heads for the table with a full plate. You take up one, scanning the dishes set out before reaching for a serving spoon.
"You took your time."
The comment catches you off-guard, and the serving spoon slips from your fingers. Your heart catches in your throat as Pike's hand shoots out, skimming your side and catching hold of it before it can hit the counter. You let out a shaky laugh as you take hold of the spoon again.
"I had a few logs to sign off on," You glance back toward him as he leans against the counter beside you. "Why aren't you eating yet?"
"I'm going to, I just got distracted in here."
"Get yourself something to eat, then," You wave toward the plates. "Don't make me sic Number One on you."
"You wouldn't dare."
"Don't tempt me."
You smile as he chuckles, straightening up with a murmur of concession. You return your gaze to the food, then go still as you feel Pike's hand smooth along your waist, gently steering you to the side. You swallow thickly, focusing steadfastly on the dishes.
"Everything here look as if it's to your liking?" He asks. Aw, hell. You can only imagine the knowing grins that Chapel and Ortegas must be giving you. You just nod, loosing a hum before you pass the spoon to him.
"Everything looks great—as always."

Wanshi's Report Log
Warning: yandere themes
A/N: another drabble, trying to work out how I want these fuckwads to be written
Tumblr media
I got assigned to a scout mission in City 006 to investigate an old research lab. Everything went according to the plan Captain planned out, though he put some emphasis on finishing this quickly... Guess Captain's busy. Hopefully that means I can catch up on my sleep.
Anyway, Me and Camu went on either side of parameters of the lab while Captain and Kamui started investigating inside. Nothing too unusual, other than catching a glimpse of someone scurrying out into the city...they looked pretty similar to that ascendant Roland, the one with the newer frame.
I told Capt about it and he told us to continue investigating the outer areas and keep an eye out for anything else before meeting up in the center of the lab.
We continued investigating and didn't find anything of note, other than some dusty puppets and a makeshift stage in an abandoned apartment. One of the puppets looked like Roland, and the others looked like Alpha, Luna, Lamia and... Uh, I forgot the last one.
I told Captain about the puppets when we met up, though he was acting a little weird. He was smiling to himself and had his hand on his in-ear piece...he's been doing that a lot lately, Kamui even made a joke that Captain must have a partner, but then Capt scolded him about staying focused. Even though it was a joke, he seemed unusually upset about it...
Sorry, this doesn't belong in a mission report. Anyway, we searched through the rest of the lab with only an occasional corrupted impeding our path. We successfully found all of the mission targets and are currently en-route to Babylonia.
-
A soft click of my terminal announces the end of my report log. All things considered, this was relatively easy, especially for something that called the entire Strike Hawk squad. A displeased sigh left my lips as I stared idly at the ceiling of the transport craft. I could've been sleeping in the Gray Raven lounge instead of doing this.
I steal a glance at my teammates. Kamui is playing a game he somehow got on his terminal, Camu is sitting farthest from us seemingly thinking about something, and Captain... He's doing it again. Chrome's sitting across from me and staring at something in his private terminal while listening to something on his in-ear piece, whatever he's watching...it's certainly making him happy in a way I've never seen before.
I look at him for a moment longer in apprehension. In the recent past, I wouldn't hesitate to ask him what's going on... but now, there's something drifting between us. Between all of us that no one seems willing to talk about.
I have my suspicions of course. Like how Kamui and Camu seem excessively clingy to the Commandant, excessively so, and how Chrome always seems to be watching the Commandant like a hawk whenever they're in his vision.
I'm in no place to judge though. I can't say with confidence my weekly visits to their room are entirely pure in nature anymore, I'm also finding it harder to be without them. I look down at my hands for a moment and close my eyes, it's not my fault their room is so much more comfortable than anywhere else and how their scent is so relaxing.
I sigh again and cast a glance over my three teammates again, carefully observing their facial expressions and body language. If it wasn't for them keeping me grounded, I don't know where I'd be. Probably killed by some self-righteous Purifying Force member by now. That's why I can't stand that this is happening. Even if the Commandant finally gives themselves to me tomorrow, if I can't live with Strike Hawk by my side, then what's the point? I'd be dead if it wasn't for them, no way am I letting something come between us.
Maybe I'm too greedy, but I can't help it. I want what's mine to stay mine. I can't let go of either of them.
I inhale deeply as a multitude of ideas and potential outcomes race through my M.I.N.D.. "How troublesome." I mutter to myself close my eyes and ready myself for a nap. I'll need the energy for what I have to do later.

The Alyara Clan: the Night People
I’ve been working on making this Avatar fan clan, so here are the main things I want to get out there. To make it more interesting, I decided to do it in the form of transcriptions of Grace Augustine’s video logs before she met Jake. I’m intentionally going to leave some things out because I don’t want this post to go on too long, and if and when I make a fic to explain the backstory for my Avatar OCs (like Nikea and Soares here for example), I want there to still be some surprises.
As far as the RDA is concerned, not much is known about the Alyara due to the fact that the clan knows how to detect and evade unwelcome presences from a great distance. The only information the RDA could find until recent years was based on the accounts of the other Pandoran natives who have come in contact with them.
Dr. Grace Augustine had documented that she had allegedly interacted with an Alyara child when her school was still operational, but the information can not serve as confirmation since it is based on Dr. Augustine’s words alone. According to the video logs, the child only stood for a single drawn portrait by one of Dr. Augustine’s SecOps transfer pilots (Capt. Maria Suarez), but no actual audio-visual documentation of the child can be accounted for. If the portrait did in fact exist, it was lost during the RDA’s efforts to terminate the Avatar Program prior to the Assault on the Tree of Souls. .
Below are selected transcriptions about the child from Dr. Augustine’s video log entries which were recorded during 2152:
- - “Today, one of my students, Neytiri, told me that she wanted to bring a new student with her tomorrow. She said that she’d known this girl for a while, and she wanted to know if it would be okay for her to come. I told her yes, but then [...] she started telling me things about this girl that made me curious. For instance, Neytiri told me that this girl could only come for the first half of class because she wouldn’t be able to stay awake the whole time, and she said that could get in trouble for staying up too late. She also said that this girl didn’t speak English and, um [...] didn’t know Na'vi very well either. I asked her how come, and she told me it's because she’s [inaudible] she’s one of the Night Na’vi of the Alyara Clan. Uhm [...] so, yeah [...] quite the breakthrough I’d say [laughing]. Humans, in all the decades we’ve been here, have never had direct contact with them before. We were starting to think that they were just a Na’vi fairytale. Then again, it probably explains why there’s a time of year where the Omatikaya tell me to stay away from Home Tree. [...] And here Selfridge was saying that the school was a waste of time.”
- “Well, Neytiri brought the new girl with her today. Her name's Nikea. I was surprised because she didn’t look anything like the other children. She had darker skin, and she had eyes and ears that were much bigger in proportion. She was also wearing this, uh, little black cloak, which is unusual compared to the Omatikaya children who only wear tweng cloths. Like the other children, she ran along the tree canopies to get to school, but when they arrived, little Nikea, um, [laughs] she was adamant that she wasn’t to going to stand on the ground. I thought that she was just throwing a tantrum because she didn’t want to come to the school, but um, Neytiri said that she forgot to tell me that Nikea’s not allowed to, um, [...] that she’s not allowed to walk on the ground? Apparently, it’s an Alyara thing. We had to get Trudy to help us make a make-shift window in the roof [laughing] such that Nikea could participate in class from up there. Oh, God, Trudy [laughing] bless that woman. But, yeah, Nikea, uh, she did great. She was having a bit of trouble understanding because she didn’t know any English, and only some Na’vi, but Neytiri was there to help her out. We even learned some words in Nikea’s language, and I’m hoping that the linguistics team and I can get started on learning the grammar such that we can eventually speak it to her. But I digress. About 20 minutes into class, Nikea started to complain of head aches and said that the, uh, daylight was too strong for her eyes. I could tell that she wasn’t trying to get out early. Poor thing, if anything, she looked embarrassed. Thankfully, Trudy happened to have a pair of spare sunglasses and gave them to Nikea, which made all the difference and Nikea felt much better. Around 11:00, I think, I noticed that Nikea started getting tired like Neytiri told me she would. I thought, initially, that she would just need to take a nap, but Nikea looked tired as if it were 3 o’clock in the morning. Neytiri took lunch as an opportunity to take Nikea back to HomeTree, so she could go to bed. So, in summary, we learned that the Night Na’vi are [...] naturally nocturnal. Who knew?”
- “We’re making a lot of progress with Nikea. She was shy at first with us, but once you get to know her, she’s actually pretty energetic. No wonder she’s so close with Neytiri. It’s so funny, whenever Nikea calls my name, her accent makes “Grace” sound like “grease” [laughing] but I’m not complaining, I like that movie anyways. I can tell that she’s also taking a liking to our pilot, Suarez. Nikea saw her drawing in her sketchbook and it ended up just [...] blowing her away [laughing]. Today, I noticed that whenever the kids play hide-and-seek during recess, the children always complain that it isn’t fair whenever Nikea plays. It’s because she has exceptional sight, hearing, and sense of smell, which makes it incredibly easy for her to find the other children and for her to hide from them. [laughing] Suarez was helping me move some of the school supplies, and when Nikea popped her head through the roof-window, it scared the crap out of Suarez. I’m starting to think that those heightened senses are why the Alyara are so good at evading threats such as predators, and, well [...] us. [...] I mean, it’s no wonder why they stay away from us. Humans are so clumsy and inconsiderate that just our accidents get children poisoned. At this point, I don’t blame Sylwanin for feeling the way that she does. I just [...] I just hope she comes back to the school one day.”
- “I think Nikea is on the right track. Her Na’vi is rapidly improving. We think that once she gets the hang of Na’vi, we can use Na’vi as a, uh, bridge to better communicate with her and teach her English since the lessons are more tailored for students whose first language is Na’vi. It’s a shame though. [laughing] Now that she’s understanding Na’vi and English a little better, she can actually say my name properly. [laughing] I’ll miss the nickname, but what’s important is that she’s learning. Of course, we’re still trying to learn what we can about Alyara Na’vi. That’s what we’re calling it for now. It seems to be a Na’vi version of a creole language, which means it’s a, uh, direct mix of other languages. This might give us clues as to what their lifestyle and culture is like because the only way to get languages like this is if a group of people are interacting with a variety other peoples’ languages.”
- “From what Neytiri and the other children tell me, the Alyara are a [...] migratory people. Not to be confused with nomadic, in which individuals move from one place to another with no planned destination. No, the Alyara have this [...] seasonal movement with a specific route that they have been travelling for [...] thousands of years. Along the way of this migration, they pass through the same villages to rest and interact with the locals for a few weeks, depending on how many resources the village has to spare.  All the while, they exchange goods, stories, and news. Specifically, the Alyara are known for their knowledge in medicine, so I’m thinking that maybe the Tawkami are close friends with them, too. This contact with various other clans explains why they have a creole language, too. It might even help us understand other Pandora languages, and vice versa, since Alyara Na’vi already bases itself on other variations of Na’vi. I realize now that whenever we speak with Nikea, even though we aren’t too familiar with Alyara Na’vi, there are some parts that if you, uh, catch on to the rhythm of what she’s saying, there are parts that sound like, uh, [...] Omatikaya Na’vi, just with some sort of heavy accent. Seeing that it’s already been about 2 weeks, I’d say I don’t have a much time with her left. If I could just come to Home Tree, where the Alyara are staying at the moment, maybe, just maybe, I could talk with their Olo’Ehktan and Tsa'hik and learn more about them.”
- “I asked Nikea a little more about life in her clan, specifically about the places they go, and [...] there were so many things that surprised me, like how they all travel on the backs of ikrans for the entirety of the migration cycle [...] those are banshees for any of you jarheads that might be watching this. Another thing is, unlike the Forest People or the Reef People that disperse their race’s population throughout multiple clans and villages, the Alyara Clan contains the entirety of the Night People. That also reminds me, we’re changing the term Alyara Na'vi to Night Na'vi since the natives describe variations of Na'vi based on the race rather than the clan. Anyway, from what Neytiri tells me, there’s about 1,200 people in the Alyara clan [...] or, at least, the part of the clan that Nikea travels with. The Alyara separate into the women and men, which are led by the Tsa’hik and the Olo’Ehktan respectively. Each half of the clan has its own migration route. The women migrate throughout the South and the men throughout the North. And it just so happens that the Omatikaya are a designated pitstop for the Alyara women. So [...] lucky us. Nikea said that, every year, after what I’d estimate to be [...] 8 months of being apart, the males and females finally reunite with each other during a time of year when the nights are shorter. Only two hours of darkness, to be precise. I tried to ask her more about what happens during those 4 months of being together, but I think some things got, um, [...] lost in translation? She said that they meet at the, uh, the Pulse? And then they [...] they, uh [...] go into the, the Sleep? I thought if I asked her where the Pulse was or what the Sleep is, it might clear some things up, but she said that she’s not supposed to talk about it. [...] I asked the linguistics team to see if they could figure out what she meant, but they couldn’t crack it either. And then, [...] I don’t know how, but word got out to Selfridge and Quaritch, and, [sigh] they came to me saying, and I quote, ‘a whole ass clan of 2,000 blue monkeys that can fly around without anyone seeing them could be a problem for security.’ They’re already itching for a slip-up with the Omatikaya, and now this? [sigh] They told me to get to the bottom of it, but unlike some people here at the RDA, [...] I don’t believe in manipulating children to meet quotas.”
- “Nikea came to school today and told us that she and her clan will be leaving in a few days. It was sad to hear, but I know that she'll be back next year. Suarez and Trudy were both there. Trudy said we should take a picture, but Neytiri said that maybe Suarez could draw a picture of Nikea instead, beause, y’know, Suarez is pretty good at that. I don't know why Neytiri would object to a photo, though. It’s not exactly what the RDA would call official documentation, but, eh, who gives a crap what they think anyway?”
- “Um [...] [sigh] today, uh (inaudible) Sylwanin [...] S-Sylwanin and some of the others set one of the RDA’s bulldozers on fire. Um [...] they came to the school thinking that I could [...] that I could protect them from the soldiers. Before I could bring them inside, the soldiers, they [...] they shot and killed Sylwanin. Neytiri and the other children saw it all. Nikea was screaming her lungs out. I got most of the kids out of there, but I [...] [sigh].”
- “It’s been a week; we went back to the school. I knew damn well that the kids wouldn’t be there. Instead, it was Eytukan, and a few of the warriors. Tsu’tey was there, too. [sigh] It turns out that Nikea was never allowed to leave HomeTree, and [...] [sigh] and, uh, had, in fact, been sneaking out to come to the school. I guess Neytiri didn’t want us to take that picture of Nikea because she knew that the Alyara didn't want humans having any viable proof of their existence. [...] According to Eytukan, the Alyara Tsa’hik was not only infuriated with Neytiri and the Omatikaya Clan for nearly causing the death of an Alyara child, but she was horrified that Nikea had been making contact with us at all. All because they made the mistake of [...] trusting us. So [sigh] long story short, the Alyara women are never coming back to HomeTree. And to top it all off [...] the Omatikaya are cutting off all contact with us, [inaudible] with me.”

Does anyone here remember Discount Skeppy
Do you mean do I remember when bad bitched about missing skeppy so much that capt puffy would use skeppys' skin and pretend she was him for hours on stream in front of all their friends. and this would go on for a long time until skeppy logged into the smp and had a confrontation with her in the smp about it because he somehow was jealous a pretend skeppy was having his attentionwhile he was unavailable. Despite the only reason she was called his best friend was because she used skeppy's skin. Yeah I do remember.

Hey, y’all, it’s Weird Wednesday! Where on some Wednesdays, I blog about weird stuff and give writing prompts.
Today: The Mary Celeste: Famous Mystery of the Sea
The Mary Celeste was an American-registered merchant ship which was supposed to sail from New York to Genoa, Italy, with a cargo of 1,701 barrels of alcohol. The captain was Benjamin Briggs, and his wife and small daughter were aboard as well. When they left port, everything seemed fine: a well-respected captain and crew, secure cargo, and a seaworthy ship.
But somewhere out in the Atlantic, something went wrong. And that’s all we really know. The Mary Celeste herself survived: she was found adrift and deserted on December 4, 1872, off the Portuguese  Azores Islands. The ship was undamaged except for some wear and tear from sailing unmanned for 9 days, according to the log discovered on board, in which the last entry was routine. The ship’s papers and instruments were gone, and so was the lifeboat, which appeared to have been tied to the ship, and then cut free. The food and personal possessions of the occupants were left behind.
Check out the blog post for the whole story and some ghostly writing prompts, such as:
The captains’ curse. The Mary Celeste actually lost three captains to premature death: the other two fell ill while on board. There’s also a theory that Captain Briggs might actually have died before the ship was abandoned, and without his good counsel, the crew were more likely to leave a sea-worthy ship. So you could write about a ship with a particular hatred for captains. Perhaps the ship itself was the killer, or it might have been cursed by someone with a hatred for authority, or malice toward the first captain to die, but the curse unfortunately kept going past him. In any case, the last captain of the Mary Celeste got some revenge: Capt. Gilman C. Parker purposely ran the ship aground in 1884 in an act of insurance fraud.

On this day…Lt. Col. Robert G. "Gray" Sowers on Thursday morning, January 11, 1968.
He was flying with 39-year-old Capt. David E. Fruehauf on his third flight in the Blackbird. The Blackbird would be flying under the radio callsign of “Aspen 21. Fruehauf was a native of Buffalo, New York, and had over 2,000 flight hours logged.
The pair briefed the flight plan, inspected the plane, and took off from Beale at 12:35 in the afternoon on what was planned to be a four hour flight.
A gentle left turn was then made to a heading of 280 degrees for a couple of minutes, followed by another left turn to 196 degrees and a descent into a refueling area near Lakeview VORTAC. But as the second turn was being prepped for, the left engine’s generator failed, some 37 minutes after the flight began.
SR-71 route "Busy Police #3" - UNCLASSIFIEDSowers and Fruehauf went to the emergency procedures checklist and accomplished the appropriate items. Sowers instructed Fruehauf to manually turn south towards Beale while he initiated a change to the astro-inertial navigation system to provide course
Sowers and Fruehauf continued straight ahead on the established course, maintaining their altitude with the existing engine throttle settings. They minimized all electrical requirements to conserve battery power.
About fifteen miles after the second generator failed, Aspen 21 began a shallow descent with both throttles slightly retarded and passed over Oroville, California, about 25 nautical miles north of Beale, at an altitude of roughly 10,000 feet.
A few moments later, the landing gear was lowered, causing the plane to slow to the needed 175-knots airspeed. This caused the plane’s nose to raise and created an angle of attack – the difference between the plane’s direction of travel and the mean chord line of its wings – of 10 degrees. The fuel shifted in the tanks to cause air to be sucked into the fuel boost pumps. The cavitated fuel flow forced the right engine began to lose power and flame out.
Out of Options...GET OUT!
But, being a unique, B-model, SR-71 posed a unique situation. In an ejection from a stock SR-71A, the Reconnaissance Systems Officer (RSO) in the back seat will eject first, followed shortly thereafter by the pilot. In the trainers, there is no RSO; the instructor sits in the back seat.
At 3,000 feet and some 8 miles from Beale AFB, Fruehauf complied with Sowers’ order and ejected. An instant later, Sowers followed his student into the sky via a Lockheed SR-1 ejection seat. After landing on the ground and removing his helmet and survival kit, Fruehauf found Sowers already on the ground, smoking a cigarette. My Dad told me that during test flight before they had to wear pressure suits that Gray used to smoke cigarettes in the cockpit but good for him he lived to be 92 go figure.😀both men were fine after the ejection and went on to have second careers. the result of the crash of 957 was that half of the trainer SR-71’s were now gone. SR 71 trainer the “C” model was later manufactured.
”Capt. David E. Fruehauf Fruehauf continued in the Air Force and eventually retired, settling in central Tennessee. In 2017, he was featured in a television commercial from Jack Daniels, showcasing residents of Lynchburg, Tennessee, as a resident who once “ejected from a SR-71 Blackbird and lived to tell about it.“ He can be spotted at the 0:28 mark, and aired during Super Bowl
Robert “Gray” Sowers retired from the Air Force, and became was the chief pilot for the country singer, Charlie Pride for 15 years. He saved the lives of all the band members by landing their critically damaged plane following a mid air collision caused by another plane.
Sowers died on December 1st, 2018, at his home in Tucson, Arizona. He was 92 years old. my Dad, Richard “Butch” Sheffield was crewed with Sowers at the very beginning of the SR 71 program in 1966. My Dad died eight days after his good friend Gray did.~Linda Sheffield Miller

Capt’s Log No. 42_SL’s BIG 20!
Tumblr media
iM SuCh a NeRd ! I really do have a designated outfit for Mentoring in AND it matches Bellisaria Welcome Center. W my matching bot friend lol  I have been learning a lot as a mentor from other mentors, things about SL and the various worlds and niches you can find here. When you stay so enmeshed in your reality in SL you tend to forget just how vast it is. Its really unfathomable at times, just like they say our galaxy is continuously growing as we are discovering new parts of it, SL is a quantum realm in a way... I have to write a whole article about my views on SL and the astral world and the correlations therin. I digress
Tumblr media
SL20B was a blast! I attended the premier of an SL documentary that was amazing, I got to see Phil Linden, Strawberry, all the OGs that was great! I love the talks that they do and all the different things that showcase how amazing SL is, the gifts and exhibits, and opportunities to volunteer and meet new people, and of course THE MUSIC!
Tumblr media
My pops did a great couple of sets, it was really dope to see him in a different SL crowd of people that may never have stumbled upon Meroe or the Movement by themselves, that in itself is really cool to me because his sets always plant seeds for self reflection and spiritual growth and understanding. I really love when he does the cinematic spoken word because that is something unique that ive NEVER seen or heard anywhere else in my life. It is truly special my dad goes off!
Gigi, Lex, and I are usually there to support when we can! Partying it up and being the vibes! These glowsticks Lex gifted us def elevated the mood, Lex is a W stage hand. Also, I have to mention because this is something that never goes away, prejudice and racism in SL... during events like this there are always a few bad eggs that bring down the vibes with weird comments and actions towards avatars that look like us, or represent themselves with a strong spiritual and purpose led conviction. Its all about frequency, not all frequencies will mix but people on SL can sometimes come off quite prejudice or whatevs. lmao. Even self hating for some people! When you really dig into the various regions and worlds in SL you can see how perverse/self hating many of the themes can seem. Its quite interesting. Lol high going off on tangents. Look how cute Gigi and I look !! XD
Tumblr media
I got to do my own set it was dope af “Summer Of Love” was my set theme, I put together a set that represented my time in SL thus far, I played a whole Hippie woodstock classic rock set with my favs Jimi, and all the greats. I played Grateful Dead in honor of my first home “Darkstar “ and the old hippies from the lot... XD Then I played some Drum and Bass in honor of one of my fav clubs ive been going to for 10+ years Bassline Junkies. The same folk there and say “Oi oi“ when I enter, Eon the hamster. Great fellow! Then I played house music, in honor of all the various house groups I am a member of and clubs I attend, I fell in love with house in SL, and i ended it with just some feel good jams
Tumblr media
oh! and I did a reading for Secondlife and its residents and the future of SL how could I forget that XD yep It was a blast I kilt it . I even built the set in blender and everything!
Tumblr media
I wore this belt as my everyday attire on my old SL avie before mesh was a thing. This was my favorite ! It has flexi fabrics that flow when you dance and walk tied on it and little pouches and gris gris bags on it. It was a very sentimental set for me tbh. It was the first time I participated in SLB and it was also the first time I used mic in a full curated set and everything.
Tumblr media
Happy Satisfied W My New Strawberry & Patch! I got Phil and Ober bears tooo  I collected a bunch ngl XD
Tumblr media
Mystory Connect is about to pop off, prepping for major RP vibes ! I am so ready to bring new ppl on the regions and make fun stories and tings, we been plottin and plannin! I am now the Real Estate Agent for mystory! I am super excited because these regions are so well built, you can drive everywhere, ride your bike , you can take the subway which is real working subway, its got all kinds of dope commercial and residential spots to live and work and have great roleplay in. I just love how intimate and homey these regions are, and there are always people around, but its about to be even more poppin with all the new things coming in that we rollin out!
Tumblr media
Me and Val havin a cute lunch meeting date at ITALVIBEZ ! That restaurant is the BOMB.COM I love getting oxtail bowl, beef patties, and the guava smoothie drink!! Theres also cute sippy  cups that I get for Yemsters she loves them!! Baby ITAL eatsssss :p
