Kitty Kisses
Tumblr media
Overview: Your boyfriend and your cat don’t get along. Bakugou keeps trying to come up with different ways to get your cat to finally warm up to him.
Word Count: 2,171
Pairing: Bakugou Katsuki x Reader
Author’s Note: I never knew that fact about cats! That’s so cute, omg! I’ve actually never been a cat person, but once I entered the BNHA fandom… It’s like I can’t escape them now. Those little furry tsunderes are growing on me. :P
“That thing hates me.”
“Maybe he wouldn’t hate you if you stopped calling him that thing.”
“Tch.”
Bakugou stared at the cat in front of him, eyes narrowing as it seemed to hiss at him when you weren’t looking. He didn’t know what you saw in that cat. It was rude and arrogant and walked around like it owned the place.
But when Katsuki saw you playing and interacting with it, rubbing its little cheeks and scratching its chin, he supposed it couldn’t be as bad as he thought.
There must be something about the cat he just couldn’t see.
He huffed. “I’m not going to be nice to your cat if it’s not nice to me.”
“Well, I’m sure Mr. Mochi would be nicer if you didn’t glare at him every time you saw him,” you said, sticking your tongue out as you petted the cat between its ears. “You brought this upon yourself, really.”
“The first time I saw Mr. Mochi, it attacked me before I even did anything!”
“To be fair, you do look a little intimidating at first,” you said defensively, holding the cat close to your chest. His eye twitched. “He was just trying to protect himself. Just give him time and he’ll realize you’re a big softie.”
“I’m not,” Bakugou snorted. But he let out a sigh when he saw your pleading look, muttering a string of curses under his breath. “But since you made it clear he’s not going anywhere anytime soon, I guess I’ll have to try.”
“See?” You grinned. “Softie.”
“Say that one more time and I’ll change my mind.”
With a small burst of laughter, you rested your head on his shoulder and gave him a chaste kiss on the jaw. “No. You won’t.”
Katsuki rolled his eyes, a begrudging smile on his face despite himself. “Hmph. Whatever.”
- - - - -
“Come here, cat. I have a treat for you.”
Bakugou carried with him a bag of goldfish-shaped salmon cracker treats. They were made of eggs, flour, and most importantly fish. He knew your cat loved all things tuna and salmon and he wasn’t above exploiting that weakness.
Holding a single treat between the pads of his fingers, Katsuki let out a sharp whistle as he tried to catch the attention of Mr. Mochi. When it paid him no attention, he grew impatient.
“Don’t you want the damn treat, you ingrate?” he growled.
Seeming to notice his frustration, the cat simply trotted even farther away from him and onto your lap on the opposite side of the living room.
“What the fu--?’’
“Nice, calming words,” you reminded, offering Mochi your hand which it licked with no qualms. Bakugou narrowed his eyes. “Mocchan will warm up to you sooner if he doesn’t see you as a threat.”
“If your cat thinks I’m a threat now, just wait until I get--!”
“Katsuki!”
He exhaled a heavy cloud of air to calm himself down, accidentally crushing the salmon cracker between his two fingers. Feeling relatively more level headed, he tried again.
“Mochi,” he called softly, his voice sounding gruff and uncomfortable even to himself. “I have something for you.”
You redirected your cat’s attention to him with a snap and the cat stared into his eyes, unblinking. Bakugou shivered. What the fuck did everyone see in these creatures who looked like they were glaring into the depths of your soul?
He took a handful of crackers out of the bag and laid them on the palm of his hand. “If you don’t try it, neko-chan, you’ll regret it.”
“Bakugou, saying threatening things in a quiet voice does not make it nice.”
“This is hopeless, then!” he cried.
“It is not!” you fired back, picking Mochi up and bringing the cat closer to him despite its mewls of protest. “Look, he would love to eat these treats. Wouldn’t you, Mr. Mochi?”
You walked over to him with the cat in your arms before sitting down on the couch by his side. The cat eyed the treats curiously but refused to move any closer.
As you examined the jar of treats, you pursed your lips thoughtfully.
“Katsuki-chan…” You studied the small fish-shaped crackers that looked too authentic to be store bought. “Did you make these yourself?”
His cheeks flamed as he shook his head, ready to deny it. “Are you kidding me? That-- That’s ridiculous!”
“Hmm.”
“I didn’t!”
You tilted your head to the side without saying a word.
He groaned. “Okay-- So what if I did?”
It wasn’t like they were much work anyway. Bakugou just combined three ingredients and threw them in an oven. It didn’t matter that it took him an hour to punch out all the dough into bite-sized fish crackers. Nor did it matter that his hands smelled like salmon for the remainder of the day.
Your face broke out into a grin.
“Stop staring at me like that, baka!”
You grinned wider. “I knew it.”
“Knew what!?”
“You do like Mr. Mochi!” you exclaimed, making your cat give you a feeble high five. You turned back to him with a satisfied look on your face. “And deep down, Mr. Mochi likes you, too.”
Bakugou snorted.
“Here, give me a treat. I’ll give him one first to ease him into it.”
Begrudgingly, Katsuki handed you a goldfish-shaped treat and watched as you fed it to your cat. Mochi sniffed it skeptically for a moment before softly gnawing at it from between your fingers. With a satisfied crunch, the cat finished the treat and blinked expectantly at you for more.
You gasped. “He likes it!”
Bakugou couldn’t help but puff his chest out at that. “Well, obviously. I made it.”
“Does this mean you’ll bake something for me next?”
“Do I have to bribe you if I want you to stay with me?”
“Maybe,” you said, giggling as he ruffled the top of your head. “Now, you try feeding him one!”
With a determined nod, he took a treat from the jar and held it out a safe distance from the cat’s nose. He made sure not to look Mochi in the eye as he offered the food to him slowly.
In a split section, Mochi tore the treat away from Bakugou’s hands and turned around before eating it, making sure to whack him in the face with his tail before running away.
He blinked, unsure of what just happened. “Was that a good thing?”
You scratched the side of your head with a sheepish grin. “Well, not exactly. But… I would say that’s progress!”
Katsuki narrowed his eyes as the cat stared at him challengingly.
“Progress, huh?” he muttered, crossing his arms over his chest. “Just you wait, Mr. Mochi.”
- - - - -
“Y/N, come here.”
You glanced at him questioningly, raising your eyebrows as you continued rubbing Mr. Mochi on the cheeks.
“I have an idea,” Bakugou said, giving the cat a sideways stare.
“Oh?”
“I read something online that said if a dog sees their owner showing someone trust and affection, they’ll be more likely to accept attention from the person.”
You blinked. “But Mochi’s a cat.”
“Well, there was no research about how to make a damn cat like you! The only advice they had was ‘don’t give up’ and other useless shit,” he scowled. “This is close enough.”
Laughing at his disgruntled expression, you walked over next to him, Mr. Mochi examining the scene from behind. “I guess it couldn’t hurt to try.”
Awkwardly clearing his throat, Bakugou extended his arm out as you drew nearer. When you were close enough, he hugged you firmly into his chest, gently stroking the length of your hair down to your back.
You stood there for a while, motionless except for the slow touches, as you tried to hold in your laughter.
“Do you think he learned to like me yet?” Bakugou asked in a loud whisper.
Standing on your tiptoes, you peered over Katsuki’s shoulder and looked around. With a confused blink, you glanced back at him.
“Um-- Kacchan?”
“Hmm?”
“Mochi isn’t even in the room anymore.”
He stiffened, swearing under his breath as he reluctantly let you go.
“Are you kidding me? The only time that cat decides to move its lazy ass from this room is when--” Exhaling through his teeth, Bakugou shut his eyes. “Never mind. It’s fine. This is fine.”
You patted his shoulder comfortingly, offering him a small smile. “Maybe if I’m petting Mocchan while you’re hugging me, this’ll work.”
Katsuki blinked. “Huh?”
You tilted your head. “Isn’t that what you were trying to do? Transfer some of your aura to me so he’d get used it it?”
“What the fuck?” Bakugou stared at you in mild concern. “I was trying to get him accustomed through observational learning, not by hoping the affection would transfer from your body to his!”
You mouth formed a small ‘o’. “Huh. That…makes more sense.”
With a defeated sigh, Katsuki patted the top of your head as you registered what he just said with a dazed look.
That was a failure, he thought. He would just have to try again tomorrow.
As you snuggled deeper into Bakugou’s arms, he spotted Mochi sauntering back into the living room with a lifted chin. The cat spotted his owner and peered curiously when you shut your eyes and rested your head on his chest.
“Now you decide to show up?” Katsuki said, shaking his head when he heard the sounds of little paw prints. “You really are something else, neko-chan.”
- - - - -
Today was the fifth consecutive day in a row Bakugou had been over at your house for over four hours. And of those four hours, he spent three of them trying to make progress with Mr. Mochi.
But as the time went by, Katsuki could feel his patience wearing thin.
“This is going nowhere!”
“What do you mean?” you asked with concern, glancing over at the two of them on the floor. “I thought you were making progress. He even ate a treat from your hand the other day.”
“I thought so, too,” he groaned, pressing his hand against his forehead. “But now all he’s doing is staring at me and blinking slowly!”
You dropped the slice of fruit you were eating, looking at him in shock. Slowly, a big smile spread across your face and Bakugou furrowed his brows in worry.
“Mocchan is blinking at you?” you repeated.
“Yes,” he said, a little uncomfortable. “And he’s doing it in a weird way, too.”
You hid your smile with the sleeve of your oversized jacket and he could’ve sworn he heard you squeal. “He’s giving you a kitty kiss!”
“He what?”
Katsuki tilted his head as he watched you blinked at him slowly, imitating Mr. Mochi. Your lips were flushed and parted ever so slightly, and your lashes cast a shadow on your cheekbones as you opened and closed your eyes at him.
Somehow, he found it cuter coming from you than from the cat.
“That’s a kitty kiss!” you chirped, a bright smile on your face and Bakugou found his cheeks warming up. “Cats convey a lot through their eyes. When he stares at you unblinking, he’s either threatened by you, or he’s most likely trying to intimidate you and show that he’s the superior animal--”
“Pfft. He wishes.”
You laughed before continuing your explanation. “If he’s blinking slowly with his muscles relaxed, he’s showing he trusts you enough to be vulnerable in front of you.”
Bakugou glanced back at Mochi and saw him gently trot around the floor, walking back to him and slowly shutting his eyes. Without second thought, Katsuki blinked back, hoping to return the kitty kiss quickly enough that you wouldn’t notice.
He was fairly certain you noticed, but you hid your reaction behind your sweater paws as to not embarrass him.
“So, he…trusts me?”
You nodded.
“Tch. Took him long enough,” Bakugou said dismissively, but deep down he felt something like happiness and satisfaction at the thought. And judging by the twinkle in your eye and the grin on your face, you knew he was more pleased about it than he let on as well.
You walked over to his spot on the floor and took a seat next to him, holding your hand out to attract Mochi’s attention. Mochi climbed into your lap with a soft purr, stretching his forelegs out so they were resting on Katsuki’s knee.
“Good,” you said, smiling at the sight as you placed your head on Bakugou’s shoulder. “Now my two favorite boys are finally getting along.”
With an amused huff, he brought his arm around your waist to pull you closer to him.
“Sure, but I’m the number one favorite, right?”
“Hmm,” you hummed thoughtfully, petting Mochi’s ears between your fingers. “It’s a close call, but yes-- You’ll always be my favorite.”
Katsuki patted the top of your head, mimicking you with a sideways grin. “And I suppose you’re my favorite, too.”
A/N: So cute, so soft, I’m crying. TT.TT I have no clue what my crackheadass was on when I wrote this, but it was very fun so I hope y’all liked it. :’)
On another note, cats are tsundere. Bakugou is tsundere. Bakugou is a cat. Thank you 9th grade geometry.

BNHA Rewatch: Episode 27 “Bizarre! Gran Torino Appears!”
mysterylover123
The Internship arc starts off with a bang! Let’s see that Full Cowl, Deku!
Tumblr media
SORA NI UTAEBA! While the song in this intro is kinda meh to me, the visuals are amazing. I love the symbolism for all the events of the ep - tho not gonna lie, this core’s ED is better than the OP. Anyway tho, go punch that wall Deku!
Tumblr media
We start with Gran Torino pretending to be crazy. I’ll admit, I’m kinda eh on this bit, though I love  Gran. It’s probably because I found it annoying when Yoda did it, so I find it annoying here as well. (It’s really just my inner fangirl talking. Nobody makes Deku unhappy except Kacchan. Who can get away with it.)
Tumblr media
But actually, this sets up an interesting difference between Deku and Luke, though admittedly situation isn’t the same because Deku knows Gran is Gran. But Deku’s response to this is to call All Might to tell him Gran’s gone senile. He’s so empathetic Deku why aren’t you real? (no shade at Luke there,e I love him too. Just not as much).
Tumblr media
“I don’t have time to mess around.” Deku did not come to play.
Tumblr media
New costume! It’s incredible how much better it is than the old one. Like, not even funny how much better. Day-um, Deku.
Tumblr media
Pfh Gran knows exactly how to piss off Deku: Insult All Might. You clever little scoundrel.
Tumblr media
So onto Deku’s character flaws: 1. He’s overly analytical. Deku doesn’t know how to act quickly, partially due to circumstance, but partially that’s just how he is. Hesitant. Over-cautious, over-thinks things. He needs to learn how to take action - and in this arc, he does indeed do so without hesitation, and saves Iida’s life by so-doing. Box 1 checked off.
Tumblr media
2. Deku admires All Might too much. Like every MC in BNHA, his Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Tragedy (insert me telling you to read that essay again). It’s a problem because he doesn’t believe in himself. So he needs to learn not to imitate All Might and be his own hero. That one doesn’t really sink in until the PLE arc. But check.
Tumblr media
3. Deku is insecure. He has a massive inferiority complex (which fits nicely into his foil’s inf-sup complex,  wouldn’t-cha-know) and doesn’t believe in himself. So he needs to learn to be more confident. (Is it wrong that I want this to end with him breaking through Instrumentality to a chorus of his friends saying ‘Congratulations’?)
Tumblr media
Gran is my favorite Teacher, as a teacher, in BNHA. I’m a teaching-major, and I kinda aspire to his techniques. What I love the most is helping students figure it out themselves. Just telling someone the answer doesn’t help them. It’s so satisfying seeing a student make that breakthrough thanks to your guidance.
Tumblr media
Now we’re cutting away to Iida’s internship to remind you Iida Wants Revenge. This is a little exposition-y, let’s cut somewhere else.
Tumblr media
OK good, the villains! Right off the bat, we’ve got some great Parallels with the Heroes, as Tomura decides to basically Intern with a Pro-Villain. He even calls Stain a pro. Tho Tomura really needs to work on his recruitment strategy. “Stain join us. Cause.” “Bakugou. Join us. Cause”.
Tumblr media
I want Deku and Tomura to build a grand Hero-Villain rivalry. Tomura basically hates him for no real reason right now, and I want there to be a good reason. Other than “He’s All Might’s successor”. I want them to be the Joker and Batman of BNHA with a real complex hero-villain rivalry, where one reflects the other. They’re getting there but I want more.
Tumblr media
“Bloodlust without conviction is meaningless.” Ooh I love me some Stain. He really elevated this series’ philosophical side with his ramblings on heroism and villainy.
Tumblr media
OK am I creeped out by the fact that All for One just said the same thing I did about learning? A little.
Tumblr media
Deku is so brilliant and such a fast learner tho. It doesn’t take him long to put it all together. And Gran actually really admires him for that - I enjoy their mentor dynamic a lot, since Gran has some real respect for Midoriya in a different way from All Might.
Tumblr media
Bakugou with Best Jeanist! OMG the comedy gold of this. Though I just want to take a sec to gripe about a change from the manga to the anime: Manga! Bakugou does not charge at Best Jeanist and yell at him. He’s not dumb enough to try that on the #4 Pro Hero and his teacher. He sits still and listens to Jeanist’s lecture. The only Bakugo line here that’s from the manga is “Didn’t you make an offer for me?” This completely changes the way we perceive Bakugo in this scene, and in general. Bad change.
Tumblr media
But in Good Storytelling-ville, I like the continuing parallels between the Wonder duo this creates: Izuku interns in a rundown neighborhood with an unlisted hero, Bakugo in Tokyo with a top pro. Izuku needs to learn to control his power and believe in himself. Katsuki needs to learn to be kinder and more humble. Izuku learns his lesson her, Katsuki doesn’t. Parallels!
Tumblr media
Kirishima and Tetsutetsu again! 4th kind is ok. He’s probably the least memorable of the internship pros, since his gimmick is simple and his design kinda dull.
Tumblr media
Uraraka and Gunhead! I love how well they get along. He’s kawaii and she’s a hardcore badass. Don’t you forget it!
Tumblr media
Now for more of Momo’s arc. The Uwabami internship is usually dismissed by fans as Just Fanservice, but think about it in context, and it becomes really interesting. One, the Hero Killer arc is about Stain protesting the commercialization of heroism, so we do need to have a Pro-Hero demonstrate the problematic nature of that commercialism. Uwabami does just that. Two, we need to have Momo’s internship be unfulfilling to her, to complete her downward trajectory (before the Final Exam arc can bring her back up), so it’s useful for further embarrassing and developing her character. 3, it sets up Momo and Kendo’s future rivalry.
I’ll take more about it in future eps where it appears.
Tumblr media
Izuku practicing and constantly hitting his face on the wall is one of those things that makes me wonder if either a) he has a secret endurance quirk or b) OFA just naturally ups your durability. How does he still have a face after that.
Here’s a hot take: Izuku with his face smashed up from spending a night with no sleep training in garbage all night is still prettier than any other guy in this series.
Tumblr media
One of the reviewers I follow made the comparison between All Might vs Deku’s using of OFA and Korra vs Aang’s role as the Avatar. You know, All Might and Korra, both master the power pretty quickly so they get to be strong fast but lose out on the spiritual connection a bit, while Deku and Aang take their time learning ofa/the four elements, but get as a tradeoff more of the spirit-y side...(ATLA & BNHA. My 2 favorite shows, alongside FMA. I swear these are like, three sides of the same show).
Tumblr media
While I’m watching in the Sub this time around, i wanted to note a dub-ism in this scene: it’s localized to ‘hot pastries’ instead of taiyaki. There’s a lot of bits like that, where they take Japanese food and translate it for us dumb Americans. But well, maybe that made sense in the 90s, when there maybe wasn’t as much cultural crossover, but...even I knew what mochi were before watching BNHA (Uraraka’s fave, and the dub always localizes it to ‘sweets’) and everyone has google if they’re confused so why not just say ‘Taiyaki?’ Ah well, it’s a stupid nitpick but still.
Tumblr media
Gran’s metaphor here is so great. As a teacher I aspire to learn from this man. Teach me your teaching ways.
Tumblr media
“THIS TAIYAKI IS ME!!!!!” Another dub-ism has him say “I’m not really a dessert” I saw a reactor once comment on this ‘Yeah, but you are a snacc, Deku.’ I wholeheartedly agree.
Tumblr media
FULL COWLLLLLLL!!!!!!! FYEAH!!!!!
OK so there are a lot of reasons I love Full Cowl. it’s one of the series’ finest moments, emblematic of what makes it cool. And what makes Deku cool. He’s smart, and has to work his way around problems, and this solution was just...it was there, for us and Izuku the whole time, to finally sit up and take notice of. It’s about applying power in a different way. About taking what you can do and doing the best you can with what you’ve got. A big central theme for the series.
Tumblr media
Also dayum that slow pan up Deku’s entire body as he activates it...he just looks good in this arc. Actually, post-cavalry battle Deku in the sports festival arc always looks weird and odd (because he’s beat up and in pain, duh) and prior to that he was mainly just adorable...this arc, however, is his official transition into Best Boy for Reals. He’s just...swoony. and also really cool, smart, and all sorts of great fangirl-y things.
Tumblr media
We end on a confident Deku smile and Daiki’s adorable ‘hai.’ Basically, i really enjoy this episode. A little slow at the beginning, maybe. But that conclusion is amazing and so worth the payoff. It’s even got this amazing rhyme and rhythm to it, cutting back and forth between the different students and teachers and just having themes echo between each other like poetry. It love it.
Tumblr media
To close off: ED4, AKA BEST ED EVER!!!! This is seriously, no sarcasm, best ED. So for those of you who don’t know, the story behind ED4 Datte Atashi no Hero is, 1: The Fantasy AU theme comes from the second popularity poll, which came out around Chapter 120/Episode 61 (yes, THAT one) and for which Horikoshi drew the top 10 in fantasy garb. 2: The Song was written by LiSa and was explicitly stated by her to be effectively about Izuku’s feelings towards Kacchan. I wrote a post analyzing it. It is, basically, the anthem for...
BKDK CORNER
Tumblr media
“Loose…” Guess who the first person Deku thinks of to create Full Cowling is? If you sad Kacchan, ding-ding-ding!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On an analytical note, I think it’s very, very significant that the first real breakthrough Deku makes in handling his power comes by observing Kacchan and imitating him. This is one of my Top 20 Favorite BKDK moments, even though it’s completely indirect, because of how important that is in the long-run. But what about the Imitation theme? Why is it OK for Izuku to imitate Katsuki, but not All Might? Well, first of all, he does use Gran Torino’s moves as well, but mainly, I think the series is saying with this distinction that it’s OK to imitate someone if you see their flaws and acknowledge them, but if you hero-worship them and see them as perfect, you’re only going to screw yourself over.  This is why Iida imitating Ingenium, Shoto imitating his mom, Deku and Kacchan imitating All Might, and yes, Uraraka imitating Deku, are all so bad for them. If you see someone as perfect, and want to imitate them, you’ll never achieve that in your mind, because you already view yourself as imperfect. So Deku can imitate Katsuki because he thinks he’s a jerk, but also an amazing fighter, and Gran because he thinks he’s weird, but tough.
Also Deku just automatically thinking of Kacchan first is so damn shippy.
BEST GIRL OF THE EPISODE: Uwabami!
Tumblr media
RANKER: Ranking the Internship Pros, least helpful to most.
10. Uwabami
9. Mt. Lady
8. 4th Kind
7. Endeavor
6. Death Arms
5. Manual
4. Selkie and Sirius (anime only)
3. Gunhead
2. Best Jeanist
1. Gran Torino! (Deku lucked out)

Hello please talk about king explosion murder
THE BOY!!!!!
can you believe i spent months trying to be lowkey about my bakugou ships? it took me a while to even admit he was my favourite despite the fact i knew from the start i’d end up a bakugou stan. i never had a ‘oh no this kid’s a mean terrible person’ phase - it was a ‘oh, i can’t Reveal my character tastes like this. not like this.’ phase.
this got…..long. so uh. under the cut it goes:
ANYWAY: i ship bakugou with…..uh…….a lot of characters. kiribaku is the easiest to explain - dumbass jock boyfriends who do shit like baku using kiri as a hammer to make mochi. and kiri being gung-ho about testing his unbreakable mode (which, btw, was motivated by bakugou’s words!!!) by having bakugou fucking. use howlitzer impact on him. you know how i feel about bro ships (hint: i love them). how kiri went from ‘man this bakugou guy is nuts!!! we have to stop him!!!!’ to ‘wow bakugou is so manly and cool and i wanna be by his side’ in the span of (1) one-on-one convo. HE LIKES BAKUGOU SO MUCH. IT’S CUTE. LIKE, I DON’T THINK BAKUGOU GETS HOW HAPPY HE MAKES KIRISHIMA LMAO. how bakugou so readily accepted kiri as an equal - bakugou, who only had two categories for people [extras vs rivals], never thought to seriously think of kiri as anything but an ally and a friend, people always talk how kirishima was the first classmate bakugou even bothered remembering the name of, and with reason, since it says a lot. kiri’s got quite a bit of mlm subtext going on, tbh, and bakugou’s the source of almost all of it. soooooo there’s that too.
but i’ve also fallen Deep into bakudeku. it’s the shared development, okay. the history and complex emotions and the slowburn to becoming partners. there’s just so much, and they’re so ENTRENCHED in each other. for better or worse, for how much they might dislike the fact they can’t stop thinking about each other, they just can’t help it. they couldn’t understand each other at all but somehow still knew the other inside and out. and deku’s been so smitten since he was like a baby 3 year old and it breaks my heart. it’s honestly one of my favourite shounen rival ships bc it keeps subverting your expectations. and every episode/chapter that deals with their issues and nudges them closer to the ideal - the endgame - is guranteed to be among the best. they’re the backbone of the series, and i love watching them grow together. the fact that they’re currently HEALTHY RIVALS AND TENTATIVE FRIENDS (like deku feels so comfortable gushing over bakugou to his face again and bakugou is so invested in deku’s improvement & is only snappy w/ him out of reflex lmao)….that bakugou is deku’s secret keeper and deku is the one person bakugou allows himself to be vulnerable around……HOO BOY. i just imagined bakugou holding out his hand for deku to take - or accepting deku’s hand at all - and died.
ALSO, TODOBAKU….my darkhorse ship, which hit me in the face one day when i realized how a) hilarious they are together and b) how the series keeps shoving them together (sometimes literally - thanks slidin’ go for giving them the group hug they deserved). i love how they’re so different yet similar - bakugou is loud and obnoxious while todoroki is stern and quiet, but they’re both rude prodigies who needed to be jumpkicked into realizing that they could become better people with the help of others instead of letting anger and bitterness swallow them up. and the provisional exam course made it so they were forced to hang out with each other 95% of the time for three whole months and i LIVE FOR THAT. i love how funny they are - todoroki is snarky & doesn’t even bat an eyelash over bakugou’s tantrums but genuinely tries to be nice and make friends with him! bakugou is so petty and wants todoroki’s attention soooo bad but don’t think i haven’t noticed that most times we’ve seen him genuinely smile has been in todoroki’s presence (ok, then todoroki reacts to it and bakugou instantly goes back to a snarl but STILL). also the fact that the narrative doesn’t want us to forget that bakugou eavesdropped on todoroki telling deku about his family, and bakugou is always Alert and keeping an eye on todo whenever endeavour is involved bc he’s sympathetic and y’know??? cares????? SO GOOD. AND THEY’RE SUCH A GOOD TEAM - SURPRISINGLY IN SYNC AND THEIR QUIRKS MATCH UP AND I LOVE THEM!
GOD, HORI…..BAKUGOU/URARAKA WOULD BE SO GOOD. like, can you *imagine* the sheer potential of a ship that you only really have them interact during one goddamn tournament fight and yet it becomes arguably the most popular het ship in your series (w/ only the main character and his canon love interest as real competition????) i love them though, like,,,,i find it so interesting that uraraka has shown, despite again - minimal onscreen interaction - that she understands bakugou better than most. she knows how he’d handle their fight and uses that to her advantage. (and while she still lost, she gained his respect and a new drive to get stronger!) she’s the one who brings up how HE’D feel about the plan to go rescue him - that his pride would prevent him from easily accepting help. i’m desperately trying to figure out a way they could animate that omake where uraraka plants herself in deku’s seat and demands that bakugou bury the hatchet with him while gently but firmly calling him out for his root issue of fear and his defense mechanism of violently pushing deku away. and it managed to calm him down and honestly, i wouldn’t be surprised if he ruminated on those words for a while. IT’S SO GOOD, WHY WASN’T IT IN THE STORY ITSELF!!! and like, the mere fact he respects her a lot and ended up *psyched* to continue fighting her - and after he’s told deku had nothing to do with her plan, i don’t think he’d make that mistake again, which makes it easier for him to understand her back. he knows she’s smart and talented and that everyone else was wrong to underestimate her. also, i love that uraraka thinks bakugou is like…..funny? he’s out there threatening to murder kaminari and uraraka’s like ‘hahaha :’’)))’ bc she has such a Bro/vulgar sense of humour. like, i think they’d have a lot of fun together. LET THEM TALK MORE, PLS!!!!
THOSE ARE MY MAIN SHIPS BUT I ALSO SHIP HIM WITH THE REST OF THE BAKUSQUAD! BOTH PLATONICALLY AND ROMANTICALLY! I HAVE NO SHAME! baku/kami is so underrated and great - kaminari is just as much bakugou’s bff as kirishima is, tbh, and he has absolutely No Chill which makes their interactions - especially the further the story goes and bakugou’s edges soften - so much fun. one moment, he’ll be casually commenting that bakugou is the worst and needs to change his whole rotten personality - then the next second, he’ll be sprawled all over him, calling him kacchan and defending his honour from actual haters. and bakugou just fucbdhfhd lets this happen. bakugou likes kaminari enough to just let him. do whatever the hell he wants. ALSO, THE BAND. admittedly, sero is the only one with enough common sense and actual standards to avoid dating bakugou (’HE’LL NEVER BE BEAUTIFUL’ ghdhfhd sero) but i still adore them. sero’s so tricksy and loves playing the reverse psychology trick on bakugou, who just constantly falls for it. i bet he was the first person bakugou let just hang out in his room, and he probably appreciates that sero actually gives him his space when he needs it! i can’t believe baku/sero is the Real ‘bakugou pining’ ship. @ hori: GIVE MINA AND BAKUGOU ACTUAL INTERACTIONS, GDI. i’m forced to headcanon their whole dynamic from near-scratch. whereas kiri and kami are more the type to glue themselves to bakugou’s back, i imagine mina’s the type to actively drag bakugou along places. she probably cried when she found out that a) his parents are rich designers (’BUY ME CLOTHES, BAKUGOUUUU’) and b) his glycerin-based quirk and taking after his mom means he usually has perfect skin and has never broken out in his life. she doesn’t speak to him for a week until he takes her out to dinner and buys her a cute dress. and i’m super fond of baku/jirou. i love that their dynamic is like…..while the rest of their friends are doing dumb shit For The VineTM, they’re on the sidelines waiting for shit to hit the fan. they’re punk buds and prob do that couples clothes switch thing a lot just to see if anyone notices. jirou bosses him around and he takes all her advice seriously and like, they trust each other! they have great team synergy! she was the first person bakugou both consciously protected and asked to protect him in turn!! DID I MENTION THE BAND?? i also ship him with camie! it’s just such a funny concept to imagine - like imagine you’re in class 1A and bakugou shows up out of nowhere with a hot girlfriend who talks. like that. and she makes him laugh??? and no, seriously, does he actually understand what the hell she’s saying???? WHAT’S HAPPENING. but yeah, she very casually teases him but also seemed comfortable w/ him right off the bat and i know in my heart that bakugou relented and let her have his phone number. also, i find it funny people started shipping him with shindou after bakugou was the one to call him out for being duplicitous. bakugou’s the type of character that just needs to interact with another character once and *someone* out there will be like ‘what if………..they were dating’ and that’s so valid of them.
good bakugou ot3/ot4s: kirishima/bakugou/uraraka, todoroki/midoriya/bakugou, todoroki/inasa/camie/bakugou. i reblog a looooot of kirishima/kaminari/bakugou and bakugou/uraraka/midoriya even tho i don’t actually ship either as an ot3 that much, oops? they’re good ships tho.
is there something i’m missing? I MIGHT BE MISSING SOMETHING.
