FAN ZE RUI IS THE BOTTOM?!

Was I the only one who didn't see it coming... Like they're both such strong characters, neither of them playing into the stereotypes most BLs create but honestly I at least thought the age one was gonna take it, purely because getting railed by a 17yr old in your old age is gonna do some damage.

Like i cant remember how old Fan Ze Rui is but competing with the stamina of a horny 17yr old who just had his first love returned... Idek how he was walking the rest of this episode.

But also I did like how both characters later on showed weakness in front of each other, and didn't suddenly change who they are to play into a more "femanine" and "masculine" role. They both vowed to protect each other in ways they know and also expressed their insecurities. Idk it was just beautiful and refreshing.

Ik Thailand is like the King of dishing out BLs but Taiwan is just overall better at plots, and tugging on heart strings. The few dramas they do put out throughout the year are very polished and just very heartwarming and easy to watch.

That being said.

CAN THESE TWO NOT BE IN ONE SINGLE DRAMA WITHOUT ONE OF THEM DYING OR LIKE JUST BEING THE "TRAGIC" COUPLE LIKE WTF MAN GIVE THEM A BREAK!!!!!!!!!

KISEKI: DEAR TO ME (2023, TAIWAN)

Episode 13 - The Finale

Rightfully so. This hot as f*ck side couple closed the show. Love ya, Fan Ze Rui and Bai Zong Yi but Chen Yi (NAT CHEN) and Ai Di (LOUIS CHIANG) stole the finale episode and I ain't mad.

Sure Ze Rui fell on his sword (somewhat literally as Zhang Teng's sister took revenge for her brother's death. Feeling like she deserved her vengeance he encouraged the teen to run as he bled out. Did he die? Of course not. And no retribution on this sad little girl that lost her brother.

Plus after the credits rolled Ze Rui and Zong Yi got a little more screen time and the beginning of some kitchen nookie. Fin. Applause.

This BL broke the bank on guest stars from other BL's but I could not enjoy Wayne Song and Huang Chun Chih since they first were NOT a couple in this and instead of Huang Chun Chih character dying Wayne Song's character bit the bullet. Kinda adding insult to injury (points off for that KISEKI even if he was a bad guy)

So the best Guest Stars go to PLUS & MINUS couple MAX LIN and SHI CHENG XUAN.

1. Jun Sola

Jun Sola (君sola)'s claim to fame rests on her tomb-raiding epic Exploring an Empty Tomb (探虚陵), which she began serialising in 2010. It is now approximately 4 million words long and still ongoing. The epic tells of the adventures of sheltered but intelligent cultivator Shi Qingyi and the mysterious Luo Shen across multiple historical periods and into modern times.

2. Ning Yuan

Ning Yuan (宁远), baihe's own multi-genre queen, has been writing steadily since 2008. Her titles range from historical court epic At Her Mercy (我为鱼肉), sci-fi thriller The Creator's Grace (造物的恩宠), VR-themed novel Middle-Aged Love Patch (中年恋爱补丁), and showbiz romance The Show Must Go On (逢场入戏) For 2024, she has promised a historical cyberpunk baihe novel.

3. Ruo Hua Ci Shu

Ruo Hua Ci Shu (若花辞树), who has been writing in the genre since 2012. She is probably best known for her historical novels, of which the most popular is Minister Xie (谢相). Billed (by me) as The Goblin Emperor meets Sha Po Lang, Minister Xie tells the tale of teenage female emperor Liu Zao's indefatigable efforts to turn her (significantly older) prime minister Xie Yi into her wife while trying to get to grips with ruling an empire.

4. Jiu Nuan Chun Shen

Jiu Nuan Chun Shen (酒暖春深) shot to dizzying levels of fame on the strength of the action thriller Miss Forensics (我亲爱的法医小姐). The novel features a push-pull relationship between a forensic pathologist on a one-woman crusade of vengeance and justice with a self-destructive streak a mile wide and a police detective whose stubbornness is a match for hers. Its popularity is such that it even has some degree of mainstream awareness.

5. Qi Xiao Huang Shu

Qi Xiao Huang Shu (七小皇叔) had been toiling unnoticed in the word mines for a few years before earning acclaim with her Republican Era tomb-raiding novel Reading the Remnants (问棺). The novel focuses on the adventures of five tomb-raiders: Li Shiyi (a veteran of the trade), Song Shijiu (a creepy fast-growing baby found in a tomb), A-Yin (a tomb-raider turned courtesan), A-Luo (the Overseer of Hell), and Tu Layao (a small-time hustler).

6. Min Ran

Min Ran (闵然) specialises in contemporary romances, all of which have been popular enough to attract print publication and audio drama (and sometimes manhua) adaptations. Her two most notable works are the contemporary age gap romance For the Rest of Our Lives (余生为期) and the showbiz novel (with a dash of rebirth) Waiting for You (余情可待).

7. Yu Shuang

Yu Shuang (鱼霜) writes primarily contemporary romances, and is particularly known for her showbiz novels. Notable works include the showbiz novels The Light (微光) and Those Long Divided Must Soon Be United (分久必合)

8. Yi Zhan Ye Deng

Yi Zhan Ye Deng (一盏夜灯) is another specialist in contemporary romances. Her best known work is probably the age gap romance Feelings Speak for Themselves (桃李不言), which has been adapted into both an audio drama and a manhua.

9. Qing Tang Shuan Xiang Cai

Qing Tang Shuan Xiang Cai (清汤涮香菜, literally: Clear Soup with Coriander) is known for her mostly-fluffy, slice of life contemporary romances. Her best known work is Fascinating (入迷).

10. Shi Wei Yue Shang

Shi Wei Yue Shang (时微月上) she came to the attention of the wider baihe audience with her 2021 infinite flow novel Players, Please Be On Standby (玩家请就位), followed by the transmigration xianxia novel Incantation for Subduing a Dragon (降龙诀).

Honourable mention #1: Tai Yang Jun 

Tai Yang Jun (太阳菌) is a favourite among fans of the wuxia subgenre, which is under-represented within baihe. She is probably best known for the two wuxia novels Jianghu Demolition Squad (江湖拆迁队) and Song of Everlasting Regret (长恨歌), as well as the xianxia novel The Dragon (见龙).

Honourable mention #2: Misterande

Your one-stop shop for dark deranged toxic lesbians, Misterande's best-known work is the dark thriller I'm More Dangerous Than You (我比你危险), featuring a cat-and-mouse game between a serial killer and a writer of suspense novels. The manhua adaptation has an official English translation, which can be read here.

Honourable mention #3: Xiao Bao

Xiao Bao (晓暴), known affectionately as 'CEO Bao' to her fans, has written upwards of 20 novels, most of them featuring high levels of explicit sexual content. Her titles include Bait (诱饵), an omegaverse novel featuring a mostly consensual poly relationship, and A Young Girl's Fancy is as Lovely as a Poem (少女情怀总是诗), featuring a daughter/mother relationship with (at least initial) noncon/dubcon.

Kiseki: Dear to Me Ep 3 Stray Thoughts

Last week, we started a new Taiwanese BL. This one features a gangster who has blackmailed a college scholarship student into letting him stay in his apartment while he recovers from injuries. The gangster is rather charming, and our medical student is pissed that he kissed him. Meanwhile, the gang is looking for Fen Zhe Rui (the gangster) and using it as an excuse to beef with their rival, who is played by Wayne Song. Huang Chun Chih.

I like how Zong Yi knows himself.

Ai Di is always tormenting someone whenever we check in with him.

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.

A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.

Rio is not a great singer, but she'll gladly tag along with friends or her middle brother. At an anime/game otaku, when it comes to her turn, basically all she knows are anisongs. She's got a lot of enthusiasm and is very smiley so everyone has a good time, although the inevitable rendition of A Cruel Angel's Thesis does elicit the collective groan of not this again.

Izumi is a fantastic singer, being classically trained and having perfect pitch. She doesn't like singing at all and gets very very nervous singing in front of crowds, so it's an uphill battle even getting her to come along. She might be convinced to do one (1) song if it'll get everyone to otherwise ignore her. As for what that song is? Her tastes are very eclectic, so it could really be anything.

Tsubasa doesn't really know how to sing, and a lot of their favorite music isn't really karaoke-friendly either due to being instrumental or too underground or too subculture-y. They do know how to rap, though, whether that's breaking out something they know, or filling in the obligatory rap break in someone else's take on a popular pop song.

Shinobu is a decent singer, but doesn't inherently enjoy it. More often than not, if they're at karaoke, they've been dragged by Anzu. 90% of what she'll sing are 'duets that Anzu wanted to do with her.' Over the course of a long night, Anzu will probably get two duets out of her, if she's lucky. There's only so much pleading puppy eyes that she can resist.

Anzu is a pretty good singer and more than that, she's a great performer. She has a strong ability to read the air and find what kind of thing will get her the most praise and attention, whether that's a bouncy pop song that will get people on their feet, or a soulful ballad that will bring a tear to the eye. She's still a teen girl though, and she'll have fun as long as she's with friends, especially if she can get Shinobu to play with her.

Yi-Chun is cheating, she's an actual idol. She likes singing and dancing, but it's at least partially her job, so it's not necessarily something she likes to do to relax and have fun with friends. She won't complain about it, though, and she'll do songs from idols she likes and admires, particularly if there's a section in Mandarin. Don't expect anything too polished though - if it's just for fun, she'll just sing in the booth rather than get up and "perform."

Kousuke doesn't know popular music. His reference for music is like, folk songs from rural areas. He's like that meme of the medieval peasant and mcdonald's sprite, if you played him a Hatsune Miku hyperpop remix it might kill him. That said, he has a soft, pleasant voice well-suited to ballads, if you can teach him some songs that won't activate his 'city people are insane and scary' sensors.

Kiyomi likes karaoke a lot, it's one of her favorite after-school hobbies, and she's quite good at it. Her taste is a little basic, in the sense that she likes what's popular online, the kinds of songs that get millions of views or are in commercials. Whatever pop songs are big at the time, she'll listen to enough just to pick up without really thinking about it, and just pop out whatever comes to mind when it's her turn.
