so... I got sick and started watching jdramas??
I’ve been sick with covid (again, huh) and idk what possessed me but I’ve binged 5 japanese dramas in the past 5 days?!?!?! before last wednesday I don’t even remember when was the last time I had seen one. no one asked for my thoughts but here they are:
1 - koi wa tsuzuku yo doko made mo aka an incurable case of love (8/10): this drama was entertaining and lighthearted, but since it took place at a hospital it had some sadder moments as well. ngl sakura was so dumb and impulsive it was irritating sometimes, but the romance was super cute and dr. tendou’s gaze is just...wow.
Tumblr media
2 - imawa no kuni no alice aka alice in borderland (8/10): I had to look away sometimes while watching because it got too intense and gory for my taste, but it truly deserves its great reputation. unlike another game based survival drama... this one managed to make me care about the characters, which in turn made it harder to watch certain games. yes, episode 3 wrecked me.
Tumblr media
3 - todome no kiss aka a kiss that kills (8/10): I really liked the concept that being kissed kills you and your consciousness goes back to the past, and the morally grey main character taking advantage of that to always be one step ahead. that ending was necessary but it didn’t really leave me satisfied so I’m glad I watched todome no parallel. also, yamazaki kento looked criminally hot.
Tumblr media
4 - hajimete koi wo shita hi ni yomu hanashi aka a story to read when you first fall in love (9/10): this drama... THIS DRAMA!!! what I wanted: a cute romance starring yokohama ryusei. what I got: an existential crisis because I saw myself in junko’s struggles (minus having to choose between three hot and caring guys). also I got teary-eyed when yuri made it into uni after all of that hard work. tbh he felt more like the main protagonist sometimes. also, I know the age gap romance is questionable to say the least but it was handled well and ffs it’s fiction!!!
Tumblr media
5 - watashitachi wa douka shiteiru aka there’s something wrong with us (7,5/10): the first episodes were a solid combination of over the top melodrama and good couple moments but since the story didn’t have a lot of substance it dragged towards the end. tsubaki’s mom should’ve been punched multiple times for being the most annoying fictional mother that I’ve seen in a while. overall it was entertaining and the show looked really pretty with all of those food shots and scenes of yokohama ryusei wearing a kimono.

Was bitching about this to a friend but uh I think more people need to hear this so your body needs sugar to function, your brain needs sugar to function
There is no such thing as a sugar addiction and anyone who says differently is trying to sell you something, usually an unhealthy and unsustainable diet and or life style
Can the case be made that natural sugars are better than artificial sugars? Yeah sure but like you still need sugar and it's better to have some "unhealthy" sugar than no "healthy" sugar and donkey kick anyone who says otherwise

Meeting Clara (but happy and cannon)
i had full intentions of coloring this. but that would take forever and i reached my limit as far as this comic goes a while ago. i have no idea what it was, but this comic fought me every step of the way. It didn't matter if i was having a good art day or not, as soon as i opened this document, i'd struggle.
But it's done now. so there's that

the main mistake that people who dislike s8 and put it low in their series rankings make is the belief that, like any other series (apart from s9), it’s a collection of standalone stories tied together by some vague throughline i.e. missy’s ‘heaven’. “oh, this episode’s mid, that episode’s bad” meanwhile it’s not about individual episodes at all. i firmly believe that it should be viewed as a singular long serial.
so grateful that i was extremely late to the party and binged it all in a week instead of watching every episode as they were airing, because sometimes the plots barely matter at all. do you remember what the skovox blitzer actually looks like or what it wanted with coal hill in the first place? hardly. i had to google its name. but what you do remember from the caretaker is twelve acting like an antagonistic prick towards danny, and that’s what matters. almost every villainous entity is some kind of soldier, the contempt twelve shows to everybody but clara becomes the source of their toxicity… in the forest of the night is pretty obviously rubbish scifi, but it demonstrates danny’s fundamental incompatibility with clara, as well as the scene in which clara is ready to sacrifice herself and her students for the doctor’s sake, foreshadowing their reckless, almost suicidal codependency.
point is, but it really does work best as a tightly woven tapestry. sure, some episodes succeed individually, but most of the individual plots are mildly exciting only in a ‘this is fun to watch for kids’ way… UNLESS you approach them from the overarching perspective. i.e. mummy on the orient express has wonderful style, a thrilling mystery, creative concepts and interesting side characters, but its story appeal hinges on the twelveclara failed breakup. listen is frightening enough, but its entire story appeal hinges on just how much clara affects the doctor’s values past and present, and whether or not she has a future with danny (she doesn’t).
what i’m saying is, the narrative in s8 is a non-negotiable package deal. buy one, get them all. and it has no skips. i hate the idiotic pro-life message in kill the moon as much as the next sensible person, but what the episode does well is really hammer home how much of a sanctimonious asshole twelve initially is, which is crucial to his future character evolution.
tldr; the correct way to watch series 8 is all in one go. series 8 is great. more love for series 8

Rereading the manga. And I love how Clara is allowed to be weird and silly, while still being able to develop her magic and get stronger.
I am more used to western animation then anime nowadays, which is definetly where wacky concepts but serious characters thrive (like 90% of Once Piece characters), so I forgot how it feels to let silly characters be silly for this long. A lot of media keeps sending them to the edgy route if they want to develop the plot... Not awful, but they loose this chard of themselves.
It's nice that Raim worked with Clara on what she got, and not on what she didn't, during pre-harvest. That the effort went on building upon her bloodline magic and the appeal of childhood and playfulness (im not talking dirty shit, this is about the Toy Box spell, the please God don't get it twisted) instead of going on a sensual route that would be very off and forced on her character.
It's nice that other characters, and the world itself, acknowledge that she's not all dumb, she has a weird logic. And that logic is just as valid as any other, like how we see in the Heartbreak arc. She didn't fail because her logic was nonsense, because her plan worked, but because Stolas had the high ground against her. (she quite reminds me of Maddie from EAH in this way, iykwim.). You can also see that in a great display during the Music Festival arc, where there's this 1 chapter about Clara and Azz learning each other ways as to work better together, and how after that Azz is more understanding of how she thinks and, and how some of the weird things she says makes full sense in context.
I'm all here for a Clara centric plotline at anytime soon, I think is well over at this point. I want to see her have more relevance to the overall story. Or a deeper character exploration that's beyond 2 chapter length. Anyways, we love Clara in this blog.

could write an entire essay about how Clara (who I like) is the Doctor's kryptonite and is bad for him not for any of the reasons you're thinking but because the Doctor lost three versions of her in a row after losing people he loved again and then he decided to project onto this one girl all of the guilt and regret he felt about losing literally any of his previous companions. it turned him into a crazy person and it got her killed. but I won't expand unless provoked

Shall we add to my complaints about Dominating Aura? Shall we?
Tumblr media
Now THIS is how I envisioned DA would look. At the very least.
Cale looks very menacing here, doesn't he? A glare with dark red surroundings, and the blood-like splatter at the bottom?
And yet this isn't a DA scene, nope! This is Cale talking about the mages in Whipper Kingdom.
My point is,,,, it's very doable to make Cale look intimidating. To make him look Dominating. So with how the scenes with DA have been handled so far, well.... I'm quite disappointed.

i’m not sick anymore but i've seen more j-dramas
I’m happy to say that this wasn’t a one time thing and wanted to watch more j-dramas after my quarantine, so here’s what I’ve seen since july (which isn’t much, but it’s something lol)
1. suki na hito ga iru koto aka a girl and three sweethearts (8.5/10): oh, to be a pastry chef and move to a beach town to live and work with three hot guys... and one of them is played by yamazaki kento??? no but seriously, I loved the vibes that it gave off, and I don’t even enjoy going to the beach! I thoroughly enjoyed this drama, minus 1) misaki sometimes spoke in a very cartoonish way that got on my nerves 2) my dude kanata was sometimes too aloof and rude for my taste, like being nice every once in a while isn’t so hard? especially to the person you like? 3) wtf chiaki dgaf about misaki and the moment kanata shows some interest he’s head over heels now? come on
Tumblr media
2. gokushufudo aka the way of the househusband (8.5/10): at first I wasn’t entirely convinced because the drama was pretty much tatsu being a househusband and people being scared of him because of his shady looks and past, but as the episodes went by we started getting more character development and backstory... and I was sooooo in! I was looking for some easy laughs, but this drama also managed to warm my heart and made me care about tatsu and his family and friends... :’D tamaki hiroshi was spectacular.
Tumblr media
3. coffee & vanilla (5.5/10): I guess this is where the shitshow begins lol. the only positive thing that I had heard about this drama before watching it was that dori sakurada looked really hot... and the rest was quite awful. this drama was so short and everything happened so fast it felt like it was on steroids or something lol. definitely cringey and hiroto behaved like a creep. however, it had something that glued me to the screen and I flew through it. at least it was entertaining and not boring, which imo is waaaay worse
Tumblr media
4. good morning call (7/10): I believe this was one of the first j-dramas that were added on netflix, and I had been curious about it since I first saw it because who doesn’t like a cohabitation plot? grumpy x sunshine? well, the premise was better than the actual execution. uehara isn’t grumpy, he’s a dick. I get that nao is sometimes too hyper for my taste but omg put some fucking effort into the relationship!!! whenever she talks to uehara it seems like he’s being bothered. also, people were shipping nao with daichi, but this guy wouldn’t take no for an answer and accept that nao isn’t into him. she should’ve ended with issei, but whatever. besides that, the drama was pretty entertaining and I liked the ensemble of characters. also, there were some really cute moments that made me forget for two minutes how dumb uehara was.

Obsessing over this shot from heaven sent and I haven’t seen anyone talk about it and it’s reflection of the doctors grief. In front of him is this window, this light and these flowers, all these reflections of life and beauty right in front of him. This light is shining on the doctors face yet his face is also shrouded in darkness. There’s the contrast of light and dark on his face, the beauty of the world at the palm of his fingers but it’s tainted by loss, suffering, grief. Clara’s portrait in the background, he’s unable to look at it but the darkness is on the same side. The doctor is unable to look, unable to accept her death and he’ll spend four and a half billions years suffering to save her, he’ll burn worlds and universes in his denial to accept her death. Clara’s portrait itself has light shining upon it, reflecting all the happiness and joy she brought the doctor, the optimism she represents yet the tragedy is in their separation, a dark shadow separating them. The light and joy brought by Clara inaccessible to the doctor, he can’t bear to look. One of the only times he smiles in Heaven sent is looking at her portrait, a moment of forgotten grief. In his pain and torture chamber it is the image and memory of her that brings him joy, but as the paint flakes away so will she, the memories he loved so much to be forgotten in his desperate attempts to save her. This silly little sci-fi show can really break your heart.

🪽 (the angel one .. it wont work on my computer LOL) 🎂 💛 for whoever youd like!! (@dmclr)
i'll answer for gojo again xb
🪽 - imagine an au where your f/o is your guardian angel. what kind of relationship dynamic do the two of you have? are they the type to be more exasperated by your silly actions or protective over you?
Hmmm i think Gojo would be the type to be very (over)protective over Indigo, he'd go out of his way to make sure he's safe (one way or the othe other, no matter the cost or the possible outcomes) he'd be pretty much obsessed w his safety in a way, this assuming Indigo cannot see him... i like those tragic guardian angel aus tbh :b the ones where the guardian angel gives up their divinity just to be with their beloved those are awesome...
🎂 - how has your f/o changed over the course of the relationship? how have you changed? do either of you miss past things about the other?
Umm a little bit of Indigojo lore on this one 🤓☝ buuuut i think their relationship and how much they changed (as people) ever since high school really erm affected their relationship (naturally), Indigo at the very starts of their relationship (when it wasn't even official and Indigo saw him as nothing more than a friend despite the fact that he knew Gojo had a little crush on him) he was definitely more annoyed by Gojo's little antics, he thought of him as sorta an annoyance that he couldn't run away from since he would just follow him everywhere like a lost puppy, it didn't really help that Gojo would constantly find ways to squeeze him in his friend group constantly, not like Indigo could really refuse this so he just accepted it, slowly coming to terms that maybe he did (sometimes…) enjoy spending time with him.
Ermm however with the whole hidden inventory arc incident Indigo was not really present for most of this event since he left to attend some business abroad for a while, which is something he still feels very guilty about to this day (the whole Geto incident would weight on his mind constantly since he thought of him as a very close friend too just like Gojo did, he just feels guilty for not being there for him in general, erm for both of them really), so this whole event kinda left them to pick up the pieces of their heart and in a way? it would make Indigo realize that his feelings for Gojo run deeper than he thought of originally, he did start to notice a sorta shift in Gojo's mannerisms too, the way he would just mask everything with his playful nature (something he did back in high school too but this time there was something else behind that whole facade, it wasn't just playful for the sake of being playful anymore, he knew he was just using it to cope) which sometimes worries Indigo to an extent, I think this would show the most when they're alone together, Indigo definitely (attempting) to be more affectionate and remind Gojo that he is not alone in all of this (to the best of his extent, Indigo is kinda bad with emotions and comfort too, emotionally repressed nerd so to speak! 💥💥💥)
💛 for whoever youd like!!
answered this one here! :}
