hi everyone!! Iriel had asked me to make this for her few fic that i was also able to help beta (not the best beta lol) and read it and let me tell you… it’s literally amazing. SHE WRITES SO GOOD!! i wasn’t really into the walking dead/zombies but DAMN i was INVESTED and i’m legit not just saying that. it was so good. • Natasha AlianovaRomanoff Stark is trying to keep her baby brother safe. That's proven to be a difficult task, considering Tony's habit of running head first into trouble.

• Bucky knows Nat's brother is off limits. It's why Steve hasn't made a move—they all remember Tiberus Stone and his walk of shame. But a couple of drinks in, and the loud music of his favorite club, he wakes up next to Tony Stark. He doesn't even like the kid!

• Steve knows he's a no good, no name "crook". Doesn't help that Nat's dangerously protective. Doesn't help he's the leader of a masked vigilante group. Yet he can't stop loving Tony. Can't stop meeting him at their favorite café for late night snacks and caffeine fueled talks.

• The game is over. Nat has caught James in Tony's bed and is dead set on killing him. But wait! "We're not just fooling around, Nat. We're together!" Tony saves the day at the last moment. So of course, they have to fake date now.

• Stevie's heartbroken, Bucky's getting shovel talks left and right, and there's someone out there hunting the young Stark heir. Worse, he thinks he might be actually liking the guy he's fake dating to stay alive.

• No one knows this—Tony Stark has been in love with both Brooklyn boys since he first met them. So this might just be a golden opportunity for Tony to get his love life in order. He's gonna need help though. And who better to get the ball rolling than Nat's on and off boyfriend, Clint Barton!

for you, aur, i'll talk about my most recent CNL fic: oh, how was i to know, which is about clint realizing that natasha is his and laura's missing soulmate.

this fic kinda came out of two desires: i wanted to explore why S.H.I.E.L.D. knows about natasha and not laura, and i also wanted to explore the pre-bond time, cause i knew from the start that clint didn't know that natasha was his soulmate when he saved her life but i didn't know how to explain that

(it was fun to write about pre-canon CNL, though, cause it let me use the timeline i made for my very first CNL fic which will never see the light of day! one day, maybe, i'll use the laura backstory from that fic for something)

the fic kinda ended up centering around the middle scene, where natasha tries to grift clint and he sees through it. i didn't plan for this scene, but it makes sense -- i feel so, so strongly that natasha's trauma and past affect her WAY more than we see in canon. so writing that scene kinda ended up with me... theorizing how clint (and laura, by extension) would deal with that. and the answer is that they are also both traumatized! but also that clint leads with compassion, even when it's kinda stupid to do so, cause clint trusts his gut above all. and trusting natasha is the strongest gut feeling he ever has in his life, even before he finds out that she's his soulmate.

Day 20- AU

The first streaks of daylight are just coming over the mountain, illuminating the frosted field below. In her hands is a cup of tea. The steam has long since stopped.

She doesn’t flinch as he sits on the wooden swing beside her. Her eyes are unfocused, staring blankly into the distance. Two deer walk across the edge of the woods. He knows without asking that she doesn’t see them.

“Natasha.” It’s not a question, more like a statement to assure her that she’s here and present. After a moment, she takes a deep breath.

“What if I didn’t take the deal?” she whispers. “What if I had.. what if I had killed you?”

“You didn’t.”

“God, what if I-“

“Tasha, you didn’t.”

Her jaw clenches, and he can tell now that she’s fighting back tears, fighting something inside of her head. It’s not a good idea to hold her now. He knows that. Years of learning each others boundaries and emotions warn him of the consequences.

“Where would I even be now? Working for him.” She says the word like it’s dirty. “Killing innocent people. Children. A murderer. And for what? For nothing other than to prove loyalty to the piece of shit that took everything away from me!”

Her voice has risen to near hysteria, and she flings the full mug across the porch. It shatters against the railing, ceramic pieces scattering over the wood. “And he could have taken away the best- the best person-“

“Tasha.” Her lower lip trembles and the dam of emotions break as she curls in on herself. She clutches her hair, hiding her face as she’s suddenly wracked with sobs.

“Clint, help me.”

Instantly, he pulls her into his arms, letting her cry it out against his chest.

“Gotcha, Nat. You’re alright. We’re okay. We’re at home and we’re together and we’re safe,” he soothes, one hand rubbing circles on her back. “You didn’t hurt me. I’m right here. I’ll always be right here.”

“I’m sorry. I couldn’t stop thinking and I just-“

“Shhh. Breathe. We’re okay.”

It’s several minutes before she pulls away, wiping her damp cheeks with the sleeve of her sweatshirt.

“Shit, the mug.”

“Didn’t like that one, anyway.” He moves to pick up the pieces, cupping them carefully in one hand. “Come on. It’s cold out here. I’ll make you a fresh tea and some breakfast, okay?”

“Okay.” She follows him inside, curling up on the couch. From where she sits, she has a view of the kitchen, and she watches him pull out things for breakfast like nothing ever happened. But it’s exactly what she needs. Right now, in the present, they’re safe, and they’re together.
