Small head canon
The entire pie family has a "pinkie sense" type sense. I've only got Pinkie Pie herself, and Maude Pie figured out though. Pinkie Pie is basically the same as canon, vague predictions only she can understand. Maude can speak with beings turned into stone, either from a cockatrice or in Discords case the Elements of Harmony. Boulder is a fragment of a being that was turned into stone ages ago by a cockatrice.
I like to think all of the Pies would look a little cartoonish using their senses, even to others of the cartoon they are in.
Ideas for the other pies-
Cloudy Quartz- a similar one to Pinkie Pie, vague predictions. But she can only read them from cloudy fragments of crystals and in some cases mirror, which end up showing multiple outcomes because the future is never set in stone. She just shatters whatever she's using
Limestone Pie- able to find caves and caverns easier than others. Especially ones formed of mostly her namesake, Limestone. She has an easier time navigating caves and caverns as well, Limestone caves she might as well have full knowledge of its layout right as she walks in. She can't explain it either, doesn't bother trying. Similar to trying to understand Pinkie Pie, just don't
Marble Pie- able to sense cracks and similar breaking points and keep out of the way of falling rocks, broken bridges, and crumbling cliffs. She will casually step out of the way of a huge Boulder about to fall on her and carry on like nothing happened. She is immune to cartoon falling pianos and anvils

One trend in the fandom I’ve never understood is when people write Pinkie’s parents (or at least her dad) as abusive. Not just emotionally neglectful or harsh, but physically abusive too. It honestly leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t only say this because I personally like the Pie family—let me explain.
I do understand that the fandom had very little to go off of before “Hearthbreakers,” but in my opinion nothing about the flashback from Season 1 suggests an abusive home. The worst that rock farm was is…boring? And Pinkie’s family clearly approved of her first party. If they were really abusive, they probably would have punished Pinkie for it. And I know that Pinkie is an unreliable narrator who tends to exaggerate things (for example, her parents probably didn’t immediately start dancing wildly lol), but I don’t think she would outright lie, nor would she so openly tell a group of local kids about her upbringing if it carried such bad memories. You also have the photo in “Pinkie Pride” proving that her first party actually happened and her family was happy and smiling.
Once “Hearthbreakers” did air, I think it even further weakened any claims that Pinkie’s family is abusive. Pinkie not only cheerfully went home to spend Hearth’s Warming with her family, but she also invited Applejack, one of her closest friends, and her family members to join them. I don’t think most people from abusive/toxic upbringings would be so exuberant about spending the holidays with said family, or willingly subject a close friend to their toxic family members, but that’s only my perspective. Throughout the episode Pinkie was super affectionate with her parents and her sisters (except Limestone) and they seemed to enjoy her presence too! They seemed to genuinely love each other, even Limestone smiled at the end!
Some interpretations more specifically portray Igneous and Cloudy in a loveless marriage, which I don’t think is accurate either. An arranged marriage between two adults does not always end up unhealthy, plenty do make it work. In all of their appearances, Igneous and Cloudy seemed to enjoy each other’s company from my perspective, at least as much as their limited expressions would show. In the episode where Maud gets her rocktorate, you can even see Igneous patting Cloudy’s back as she’s crying! I think he just has a resting scowl, he seems to care about his wife and family otherwise.
Even with Limestone, although her first speaking role did not paint her very favorably, I wouldn’t write her off as abusive either. I won’t try to excuse her trying to intimidate a child, nor will I ignore that she and Pinkie didn’t seem to get along so well during that episode. She was incredibly territorial over her home and her family’s boulder, but I don’t think that necessarily means she would end up becoming a spouse- or child-beater. Remember that in this episode her family also had guests over, which would heighten her instinct to protect the family and home that she’s clearly loyal to, if very rudely. Even by the end of that episode, she came around and was seen sharing food with the guests, showing she does have a warmer side in there somewhere. “The Maud Couple” proved this further by showing her offering genuine advice to mediate a conflict between her sisters! Someone with abusive tendencies, I believe, would be more likely to shut such an issue down with no discussion. In that episode we got to see what she is like solely in the company of her own family members, when she’s not grandstanding for guests—under abusive circumstances, her behavior would be worse behind closed doors, not better.
And, again, Pinkie clearly trusts her family enough to willingly travel back to her childhood home during what she saw as a stressful time. If it were unhealthy she wouldn’t have done that.
I think some people misinterpret the Pies being dull and gruff as signs of something worse under the surface. Or they see parts of something familiar to them in Pinkie so they rewrite her backstory to reflect that. That’s fine and valid, but I think it’s unfair to insist that any evidence of family abuse comes from the show itself. Yes, they do not act openly affectionate like other families, but Maud is that way too. And isn’t that the point of her character? That someone who expresses themselves differently is no less capable of love and friendship? I think that extends to the rest of the Pies as well. I think they are better than some give them credit for.
TL;DR: Pinkie Pie’s family isn’t abusive. I know it’s long but I’m passionate about these characters lmao

I wanted to introduce you guys to Evergreen
so I thought it was a good time to cover my headcanons for all three of the pie "wives"
First, with the happiest story we have Cloudy Quartz, a bright young mare from a haymish family just like the Pies. Just as she explained in the show the choosing stone paired them together and 2 weeks later they were married. Usually the betrothed would spend this time apart. Which they did, but Cloudy had a bit of a rebellious streak and took to writing Igneous letters that his sister would deliver to him in secret. She wanted the chance to get to know him on her own terms and she fell in love with what she learned. He treated her like a lady but he didn't look down on her, he communicated very clearly that she would be his equal in their partnership. The day they were finally wed was the most joyous occasion of her life, they stayed up all night talking to eachother, perfectly on the same page that they would keep the family rock farm at its best just like their ancestors before them and well...not to be uncouth but Limestone came very quickly. The pair are very much in love to this day, trading polysemous titters when nopony can hear and making eachother blush like schoolfoals.
Evergreen is positioned next but I'll move onto Whipped Dew first as she doesn't actually have the saddest story of the three. In haymish culture theres a period of time where teenagers can go out and experience the outside world, giving them some experience so they can choose whether to stay in the outside world or return home. Whipped was an up and coming weather pony, the mare with hooves on the ground to tell the unicorn and earth ponies what the pegasai had planned for that day. She wasn't working yet being a teen herself but she had an old soul and lucrative mentee opportunity that kept her in ponyville, where she met the eldest of the Pie clan Sodalite. The rite of passage lasts about two years and the pair found a lot of fun in eachother, they weren't quite sure whether they wanted things to go on long term. In their haste they never found the proper time to discuss it either as Dew fell pregnant and it was nearing time for Soda to make his final choice.
He didn't want to leave his family and she didn't want the life he had ahead. It wasn't the ideal either would have chosen, the young mare even losing the opportunity as she had to figure out how she was going to care for this baby on her own. Yet, everything worked out for the best, Chiffon thrived in ponyville making friends and even falling in love just like she had. She was a stern mother but loved her daughter more than anything, happily putting her success over her own hard feelings. Whipped Dew was eventually able to get the job of her dreams and frequently travelled back and forth between ponyville and manehattan until her daughter was old enough to be on her own.
Finally, we have Evergreen. She was from a tree farming haymish family and the youngest of her siblings so for her the choosing stone chose the youngest member of the Pie clan. She didn't meet him until the day they were wed and even on the day of he seemed more interested in celebrating with his brothers and his friends, even despite Igneous' subtle nagging and urging. Desperate to find a place in her new family the worrisome mare made fast friends with her new sister-in-law, as her spirits fell more through the day Cloudy was there to be a shoulder to cry on, something that continued between them long after the wedding. Since the rock farm was already promised to Igneous she was given the gift of being able to return home, her husband coming to live where she felt was home.
Despite his parents best efforts White Marble was a very spoiled stallion, happy to take advantage of the fact that his beautiful wife would be the one who was expected to mainly care for their foals. The same foals who could soon enough take over the work on the farm, leaving him to essentially drink cider and give orders. As his family grew and he realized his pipe dream wasn't all it was cut out to be he ended up fleeing in the night. At some point on his journey he found himself welcomed in by ponies who didn't expect him to contribute all that much, nopony was special here, they didn't even have cutie marks. White Marble had been running for so long. The vagabond lifestyle was nice but the prospect of a free home sounded really nice, especially compared to the alternative.

New autism criteria: having traits in common with every member of the Pie family
ahaha jk BUT they do all have autistic traits
Pinkie and Maude both take things very literal, and even though they each make figurative statements have a difficulty discerning when others do so.
Pinkie also gets along great with the yaks, whose cultural speaking patterns tend towards being pretty blunt, but she knows what they mean and doesn't take it as being rude because she takes it literally and doesn't see them as part of the social "play", so to speak. I also HC her as ADHD bc she has some Very Relatable RSD-focused episodes.
Maude is able to "understand" her pet rock and personifying it, and Pinkie acts similar with Gummy.
And there was a whole episode about the main cast thinking that Maus hated them because they couldn't understand the way she showed her emotions, and she later describes to Starlight feeling alienated from other ponies.
Limestone Pie is The Boss, she thinks very practically and says exactly what she's thinking, so it's a good thing she mostly spends time with her family members who know she isn't trying to be mean.
Igneous Rock and Cloudy Quartz are overly formal because that's how they were brought up, and as far a they know, those are the rules to politeness forever. The grammar rules and inflection they use may be a different set than other ponies are used to, but until being told otherwise, you can bet they will follow their own rules to a tee.
It is unclear to me whether Marble Pie is nonverbal or mute or semiverbal or simply doesn't want to soak that often, but it is clear that , despite liking to be around other ponies, she leaves the bulk of the work in the realm of social interaction for her sisters.

After a long day of working and learning, it was a relief to finally return to the little farmhouse where Limestone and her sisters grew up. It was small and humble but it was home—even more so with all the new history the mare had learned about the land.
“Ma, I’m home.”
Limestone said in the same gruff tone as if she had come in from another workday.
“The young’uns ain’t causin’ ya too much trouble, are they?”
Applejack quipped more lightheartedly.
“No, the day hath stayed free of trouble.”
Cloudy Quartz pointed towards the window.
“See yonder, for they frolic in the fields.”
The elder mare was doing anything but frolicking herself, sitting back in her old rocking chair with a blanket in her lap.
“Me, I am resting, but I do pay great mind to them. How was thine morning, my daughter?”
“It was fine, we were just at the Mayor’s office. Doing business.”
Limestone explained with little detail, but her mother’s eyes widened in recognition.
“The mayor, thou sayest? Thy Aunt Morganite was Ponyville’s mayor last I knew. Pray thee, do tell, is she still?”
“Yes, yes she is.”
Her daughter affirmed.
“It was…nice catching up with her. It’s been awhile.”
“Yea, it hath been so.”
Cloudy nodded somberly.
“Thy father wished to see his sister more indeed. She taketh the Pie spirit beyond our humble homestead, to help other souls in need. But almost nary did she return.”
“Really?”
Limestone raised her eyebrows in mild surprise.
“I always thought he was disappointed in her for leaving the family. He didn’t exactly return her enthusiasm when she did come over.”
“Oh, nay.”
Cloudy said with a slight chuckle in her voice.
“Not at all. Thy father was nary good at showing how he felt. ‘Thy visage is as sturdy as a stone,’ I used to say unto him.”
“Well, you shoulda been there with us an’ the Mayor today! She told us some mighty interestin’ stuff ‘bout Lime’s Pa an’ the whole Pie family. A whole lot that just might help us with Mounty.”
Cloudy’s look of surprise and Limestone’s hesitation immediately told Applejack that the two of the, hadn’t really talked about what had been going on with the colt.
“Uh—I mean…”
“What is thy trouble with young Mountain Peak?”
Limestone had always been a Papa’s filly through and through, but she had just as much respect for her mother. Anyone else she would have ordered to mind their own business, but she couldn’t be so harsh to her Ma.
“He’s just working through some stuff. We’re working on it, though. You don’t need to worry about it, Ma.”
She placed a hoof on her slightly hunched back almost like she was consoling a confused old lady, ignoring the look from her wife that told her she was avoiding the subject.
Not that Cloudy would let her.
“Thou say I shan’t worry myself, but Mountain Peak is mine own grandfoal.”
The elder mare shrugged her off, turning to look her straight in the eye.
“And thou art my daughter. Rest thy weary bones, sit down.”
She gestured to the floor next to her.
“And tell me the truth, so Gaia help me.”
Right on command, Limestone’s behind dropped down to the old rug below. She was a proud mare except when she was under the orders of the ponies who raised her; she wouldn’t dare disappoint either of them.
But Cloudy didn’t look disappointed as she softly traced a hoof along her cheek down to her chin, lifting it up until she was looking at her. Instead, she looked worried.
“I’m really trying to keep this farm together, Ma. With Pa gone and you getting older, we need all hooves on deck more than ever. But Mountain…ugh, I don’t know what’s wrong with him, but he’s always talking back to me. Trying to change how we do things around here.”
Limestone explained in a mix of frustration and pleading, hoping that her mother would be sympathetic and take her side…even if she wasn’t quite as sure of herself.
“He says Pa would have wanted him to do this. But I don’t think so. He told me to keep the Pie legacy alive, which means keeping things running just as he did. We don’t need all these fancy machines running things like his work didn’t matter! Like he didn’t matter.”
A pang of longing shot through her, just for a second.
“But everypony else is agreeing with Mountain. Like AJ—“
She looked over to her wife, who now knelt across from her.
“And even Aunt Morganite. What did he really want for this farm? I don’t know.”
“Wherefore didst thou not speak to me?”
Cloudy asked.
“Thou knowest, I am his wife. I delivered his last will and testament.”
Limestone held her tongue in shame, thinking of how hurt her mother must have been. She was still the matriarch in all the ways that really mattered, in Lime’s eyes. Why didn’t she talk to her?
“Well, what did he want us to do?”
Her mother lifted her hat—her father’s hat—from her head and set it gently on the ground, reaching back up to stroke her mane.
“Certainly he didn’t want for thee to work thyself to death. My dear, thou hath hardly taken a moment’s rest since we bade him farewell. Thou art so weary.”
“Yer Ma’s right.”
Applejack reached over to hold Limestone’s hoof, offering a bit of honesty herself.
“It seems ta me that Mounty sees it too. His lil’ contraptions are s’posed to help ya not run yerself ragged.”
A warm smile spread across Cloudy’s face.
“Thy colt hath always cared greatly for his family. Conceiving of grand ideas thy father could never have brought to this world in our time, as much as he would have liked. Not seldom did my dear Igneous lament the long hours it took to carry boulders across the fields, when there was other work to be done. He said Mountain Peak would be a fine heir to the farm, after thee.”
“That was what Pa wanted? He liked all those ideas, he wanted things to change? Oh Gaia…and I treated Mountain so horribly.”
Lime’s voice grew thin and quiet.
“Pa must be so disappointed in me.”
“No, my dear. Never!”
The elderly mare cried out like she was hurt that her daughter could think this way.
“I hath seen mine husband through his darkest sorrows and brightest days. From the day his mother passed on to the joyous moments he met his grandfoals. In all these moons, nothing has been more clear than his eternal love for his family.”
Cloudy’s face softened with a loving nostalgia.
“Verily, shortly before his passing, he looked to me and said, ‘my love, I dearly hope our daughters know how proud I am of them.’ Each day before and thereafter. Thou and thy sisters art his greatest pride and joy. And mine as well.”
“We know how that feels.”
Applejack added, speaking to her mother-in-law but looking at her wife.
“We’ve got our own lil’ prides and joys ourselves. Right sugarcube?”
But Limestone didn’t answer. She couldn’t. It had finally, suddenly hit her how utterly ignorant she’d been of her Pa’s wishes, how she’d twisted his legacy for her own pride and ended up hurting the one she was supposed to love the way her father had loved her…even if she didn’t know it until after he was gone. There was nothing she could say for herself.
She swallowed the unfamiliar lump in her throat and forced out a response.
“Yes. I…I need to go for a walk.”
With this, Limestone hoisted herself up, knowing there was somepony she owed an apology to.
