Coco: Why was he even here?

Jaune: Because we needed a third person to do this, so you beat, Cardin to a bloodly pulp, tied him up, and threw him in that sack.

The Next Day...

Coco had avoided all of Velvet's questions the night before, and even though her Bun-Bun tried until the wee hours of the morning to get some answers out of the fashionista, Coco still felt refreshed. She entered the Headmaster's Office with the special blend he sought under the crook of her arm. Nodding to him, she moved forward and placed the tin on his desk...

Coco: There is it, as promised. Now what about...

Ozpin turned and took something off the shelf behind him, and then turned...

Ozpin: I made a selection as I was unsure of what type of lady you wished Mr Arc to become.

Coco: Selection?

Ozpin: Yes, each of these vials will transform Jaune into a different type of woman. I suggest you try them all out.

Coco: And after I have?

Ozpin: Pick your favourite and I will create a permanent version of said elixir.

Coco: Wait? You mean these aren't permanent?

Ozpin: No, as I said I wasn't sure what exactly you were looking for, so I created temporary versions. Each one will last only 24 hours. PLEASE do not douse Mr Arc with two with in a twenty-four-hour period, as that may cause complications.

Coco: As in?

Ozpin: Horrific mutations, and possible personality changes. I doubt you want the future Mrs Adel to be a raving lunatic.

Coco: Point taken.

Ozpin: Any other questions, or concerns?

Coco: Do I trick him into drinking them, or...

Ozpin: Splash your chosen vial on him, preferably in a manner that it gets instant contact with his skin. After thirty minutes, the changes will happen, but it will take longer if you do not get some skin contact.

Coco: And after 30 minutes, it lasts for twenty-four-hours?

Ozpin: That is correct.

Coco: This better work, or you'll never get a refill.

Ozpin: Have no doubts. It will work, all that is in question now, is which Ms Arc will fully steal your heart, and...

Coco: And?

Ozpin: If you can get him... I mean... her to reciprocate those feelings.

Coco: Easy peasy.

Ozpin: You sure about that?

Coco: What do you mean? I have the body, the attitude and the charisma, what's not to fall madly in love with?

Ozpin: You will be changing Jaune from male to female, probably multiple times. Do you not think he might object? (Ozpin scoops up the coffee can and steps back away from Coco) Just something to think about, now I wish you the best of luck.

Coco eyed the test tubes as the Headmaster turned his back to her and began to prepare a pot of coffee. All the while humming a very merry tune. Taking a deep breath, Coco picked up the set of sealed test tubes and left the office.

"Very funny, you two. I know you like gossip, but couldn't you come up with something more believable?" Daichi sounded fed up. Being a fully licenced huntsman might have made him open up a bit more, but that didn't mean he was going to just believe his team mates like this. Ozpin, as a child? Sounded like nonsense...

"I don't know..." Fox interjected. "It does sound sort of like something Professor Ozpin might have done. But why would he be here in Vacuo? As a child? It just isn't credible, guys, you need to try harder."

"He requested a meeting with us later, so you'll both see soon enough. Does this really sound like something we'd make up, guys?"

"Honestly? If you were bored enough, Coco, yes. That you got Velvet in on it is slightly impressive, but..."

"Yeah, yeah... are you two coming to the meeting or not?"

The boys glanced at each other and shrugged. They ddn't really have anything better to do today, their next mission wouldn't be for a few days, after all. Maybe meeting the little boy that Coco and Velvet were so illogically certain was somehow their dead headmaster would be fun?

The message requesting the meeting appeared on Coco's scroll a few hours later. The person sending it seemed nervous from the language, but the room they'd picked wasn't too far away. Fox, reading it over her shoulder, shrugged to himself. The words used did sound sort of Ozpin-ish, after all. Maybe it WAS magic... after all, the Grimm Queen was supposedly real enough.

There was indeed a boy seated casually in the room as Team CFVY entered. He seemed to be reading, though he looked up when he heard their presence. A familiar looking cane was propped up against the chair and his silver hair was just as tousled as they remembered Ozpin's being. His eyes were Ozpin's, too, though the glasses he wore were a different shape, they were still tinted that same dark shade. He smiled at them gently and nodded in greeting.

Fox stared, as did Daichi. The cane was rather unmistakeable after all and the boy's coloring matched up with their recollections of their old headmaster. The boy was even primarily dressed in green, though there were hints of gold here and there in his outfit.

"Hello again, students." Oz murmured, eyes sparkling. "It has been rather a long while, after all."

"You... are you actually Professor Ozpin? I thought you were, well, dead..."

"The rumors of my demise were a tad exaggerated, I fear. Though I prefer to go by Tip, at the moment. So if you could, please call me that?"

"... Tip?" Velvet ventured... "Umm, what happened to you, if I can ask?"

"Magic, as I told Miss Adel and yourself. This was a backlash from something that occured when Beacon fell. I became a child. At least it appears temporary in that I'm growing up again."

For the first time, Coco really noticed just how small Tip was, how vulnerable he appeared. Her eyes softened in understanding.

"They'd target you, wouldn't they?"

"I rather fear that they would. Salem already has, in fact. I would ask that you keep this to yourself as much as possible, at least for the next few weeks? I am very well aware that this is not the sort of secret that can be kept for long, however despite your love of gossip... it is a dangerous one."

"I'd never think to spread something like this!" Coco was quick to assure, wilting slightly at Tip's single raised eyebrow which was his only response. "... anymore. You're just a boy, professor, I'm not going to put you in danger like that!"

"Thank you, Miss Adel. I'm sure you all have questions?"

"Magic is real, does that mean the person that tried to hurt you has it, too? Or... do you?"

Tip sighed. "The one that tried to kill me is the current Fall Maiden. As such, yes, she has a not inconsiderable amount of magic."

Coco blinked at that, assimilating it, before realising what he hadn't said. "And... do you have magic, too?"

"... yes." Tip sounded very reluctant now. "I do."

"... Prof... Tip? I know the stories, we all do. If you have magic too, does that make you the wizard?"

Tip swallowed before nodding, once, the quick, choppy motion looking very out of place on someone they were used to being so very elegant.

Well then, that was certainly a thing to know...

Basically I'm rereading the series at roughly 1 book a week, and vlogging it on my mostly-dormant YouTube channel. I'll do a Jenny Nicholson style multi-hour video at the end. Currently working on Mariel of Redwall. Will get a link up to the logs for the first three books.

Red Fraction

My take on the "Pyrrha Lives" (Stomp Stomp) style of fix-it-fic. Got some fun ideas for it. Basically got Pyrrha's consciousness split into pieces across several characters, with the ultimate goal being recombining them all. See the opening for Black Lagoon if you want a sneak peek at chapter titles.

RWBY Modern AU (No solid name as of yet)

Man I love AUs, AUs are cool. And I've got some fun ideas for this one. Ruby and Jaune married for tax reasons? Got it. Coco Adel, the wholesome Yuri manga addict? Check. Gauntlets and Greaves? Hell yes, I read some baller GnG fics last year and I've been hooked ever since. There's other stuff too, but I've had trouble figuring out a main plotline, which is why I have...

Old Masters

This is a side story (or perhaps pre-sequel?) for my Modern AU, and one that has a defined plot line. The last generation's megahit pop duo was "Young Masters", made up of Ozma "Ozzy" Calavera and (The Pseudonymous) "Salem". The two had a fairly consistent will-they, won't-they subplot in their music and stage performances, until it came out pretty publicly that "they did", and the act (and relationship) broke up in a rather messy fashion.

Now some (insert number) years later, Salem has a grown up daughter, Oz is still trying to get his solo career off the ground, and neither of them are really happy. They meet by chance, and eventually (though with much pain) reconcile. Don't know all the details yet, but leaning towards a secret romance between Oscar (Ozma's Nephew) and Salem's daughter (either Emerald or Ciel, undecided) being part of it.

To aru Isekai no Tabibito (A certain otherworldly traveller)

It struck me one day that Semblances are rather close to ESPer abilities when it gets down to it. Thus, a RWBY x Toaruverse crossover feels pretty natural, at least to me. My thought: RWBY (and probably JNPR) find themselves dropped into Academy City with minimal equipment and have to figure out their way around.

The Bard for Advanced Systems

Don't know how big Advanced (as in 1st edition) Dungeons and Dragons is on Tumblr, but I take a great deal of issue with 1e's handling of the Bard. I can expand on why in another post if anybody's interested. TBFAS would be an essay and class write up of my idealized Bard Class, probably looking most similar to the 1e Monk in design style. I've got some ideas, I just need to set them in motion.

RWBY x Pokemon Special

More "nifty idea" than anything else. Pokemon Adventures was my first Manga, and I'd like to cross it over with RWBY at some point, probably by dropping RWBY characters in as trainers/Dex Holders. Could even do a full swap, but I'm less sure on that point.

As you may have gathered from the above, I have a penchant for RWBY fanfiction. This is because it is a world I have grown comfortable in, and the fandom I first explored fanfiction within. I haven't actually seen Volume 8, and am not planning to watch volume 9, and really I think things have been going downhill somewhat since... Well actually the show was always a bit of a mess if I'm being honest.

That all said, the world is great, and the characters, as interpreted by FNDM, are also pretty great, and rife with opportunities for cool storytelling.

What's that? Surely I'm forgetting something? Are half a dozen projects I want to work on not enough?

Okay fine, I've got some original works as well, but waffles are just about ready so I'll share those in another post.

Just because I love the way you write narratives, how about a Silentknight Coffeshop AU premise?

Jaune is a detective. He's still pretty new to how policing works, but since his family has a long line of service in the Vale PD, he was assigned to detective pretty quickly

He has a famous partner. Pyrrha Nikos. One of the best in town. Everyone knows about her. Shes always on the news. Solving incredible cases. Almost like a super hero

But Jaune never really wanted any of that. He just wants to try to help people. That's it

Neo is pretty similar to her canon self. Used to come from money but faked her death and went on the run with Roman. She never particularly loved robbery and crime. She just loves the freedom it gives her. Not to mention Roman is her only friend and she would do anything to help him

Neo's partner is famous too. All over the news (thanks to his girlfriend reporter). Everyone in town had heard of famous thief / bank robber Roman Torchwick

Jaune and Neo both frequent the same 24/hour coffeeshop. Around 3-4 in the morning Jaune is getting coffee to begin his shift while Neo gets tea to end her all-nighter of crime

They are regularly the only people in the shop at those hours but never really talk to each other

One meet-cute later, involving Jaune just being his genuinely kind self and Neo not knowing what to do with kindness, they start having conversations

They both vent about how their work really isnt want they expected it'd be. Yes Neo gets her freedom and Jaune gets to help others, but its not quite right. They aren't quite happy

Neither know just what the other does for a living. But they listen to each other's problems

Their partners wouldnt understand. They love the work they do. But Jaune and Neo aren't sure they're meant for these careers

No wild adventure. No action packed sub-plot

Just two people realizing they prefer to spend their time together a lot more than they like their jobs

And helping each other find things that do make them happy

Neo helps Jaune see that helping people isn't limited to being a cop. Eventually Jaune realizes he much rather prefers medicine / becoming a paramedic. Neo helps him study for all of his med exams

Jaune helps encourage Neo's creativity. He compliments her fashion sketches and convinces her to try making her own designs. He happens to have gone to school with Coco Adel and might be able to help Neo get her foot in the door

Commentary:

The first four songs cover June’s escape attempt and the time they share at the Boston Globe.

"Incomplete" is Nick's POV from when she's on the run and he knows she'll be gone from his life soon. He lives in the moment.

It's A Girl makes me think of the beautiful moment they share during June's false labor when he helps her out of the van and they climb the steps together.

I’ll Stand By You is for 2.10, Nick holding June after she was heartbroken over Hannah and over what the Waterfords did to her and clinging onto him.

For obvious reasons, it was extremely difficult to pick songs for this season.

The first (instrumental) song is for the beginning of the season with June coming back to the Waterford house and them then saying goodbye to each other on the street.

All I Ask, Never Enough, I Don't Wanna Live Forever and Love Is Gone are for their night together in June’s room at Lawrence’s (the one we didn’t get to see sigh). They know it's possible it's all they'll ever have, and they'll take it, but it'll never be enough.

Commentary:

There were sooo many songs I wanted to include in part IV, but I controlled myself and ended up with this particular dozen.

"She Was Like A Bright Light" and "Noah’s Last Letter" are an instrumental double punch to the gut for Nick’s time in Gilead during episodes 4.07-4.09. The first one is meant for when he finds out June made it to Canada, and the 2nd for is for when he starts to gather info on Hannah to give to June.

"What’s in the Middle" and "ivy" are June’s POV of episodes 4.07-4.09.

"What's In The Middle" has more of an angry and confused vibe, and June was definitely both in episodes 7 and 8.

Losing your head is such a common theme

On the other hand, "ivy" has this haunted vibe, but there's also reverence and acceptance, which she begins to achieve in episode 9.

"The Story" draws the season to a close nicely, with June understanding that her current needs are different from what they used to be and that there’s someone who understands her completely (and it’s not Luke).

Now that they’ve already made out in front of the man who raped and abused June and made Nick watch him do that, I want to believe they can let go of the secrecy in S5, at least when it comes to a few people.

“Bones” is about a relationship with a strong foundation, which IMO they do have. It will carry them in the future, too. They’re more into each other now than ever before and especially June is coming to terms with how strong that love is. They’ll weather any storm.

RWBY / Danganronpa AU write-up:

(After watching Game Grumps play DR this morning, I’ve had Danganronpa on the mind. So, I decided to write this up for fun)

Set-up: In an alternate universe, teams RWBY, JNPR, SSSN, and CFVY are invited to attend Hope’s Peak Academy, the next step to becoming Huntsmen and Huntresses after graduating from Beacon Academy. Monokuma traps the students there and forces them to kill each other in order to escape. 

Chapter 1

The motive for this round is “memory wipe”. If no one is killed in 24 hours, then their loved ones’ memories of them will be wiped out. No one will remember them outside of the school. This freaks out Yatsuhashi Daichi in particular due to his past traumatic experiences with his semblance. And sure enough, he is the first student to die.

During the class trial, the students have a hard time determining who the killer is. As they uncover the truth piece by piece, they soon discover that Yatsuhashi was not as innocent as it seemed. It turns out, he was actually PLANNING on committing a murder of his own. Ruby Rose then starts to wonder if Yatsuhashi was killed in self-defense, that he had actually carried out his plan but failed and was killed by his would-be victim. 

The students are about to give up until Nora Valkyrie points out that Yatsuhashi has an unexplained broken rib. The wound wasn’t fatal, which is why the students opted to ignore it. That’s when Ruby realizes that the injury could’ve been caused by a really strong punch. 

Cue the “CHOOSE THE GUILTY PERSON” minigame and Ruby selects Yang Xiao Long. After a long back-and-forth of Ruby picking apart the evidence and testimonies, as well as Yang defending herself, Ruby eventually proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Yang killed Yatsuhashi in self-defense. Yang breaks down, wondering if she inherited Uncle Qrow’s misfortune semblance.

Yang’s execution: Yang fights several robots dressed as the White Fang. Suddenly, she’s cornered by a robot dressed as Adam Taurus. Yang tries to fight him but Adam-bot strikes first, cutting off her arm (just like the show). This time, Adam-bot finishes the job by cutting off Yang’s other limbs before decapitating her. 

(students eliminated: Yatsuhashi Daichi, Yang Xiao Long / 14 students remaining)

(quick note: just like the actual Danganronpa series, I killed off Yang in the first chapter since the games killed off someone you thought would have been a major character for the rest of the game. Sayaka in DR1, Byakuya in DR2, and Kaede in DR3)

Chapter 2

The motive for this round is “2 lies and a truth”. The group is given three statements about each other, 2 of which are false and 1 which is true. To prevent the students from just confirming which is true and which is false, Monokuma clarifies that any student who reveals the information in their cards will be killed instantly. This greatly increases the paranoia among the group. Just to give an example of this motive, Ruby’s statements are:

1) Weiss Schnee’s sister, Winter, arrested Qrow Branwen for murder, which he was framed for (in this alternate universe, this turns out to be the true statement but was written by Monokuma out of context in order to make Ruby hate Weiss)

2) Blake Belladonna’s parents scammed Taiyang Xiao Long out of a deal that would’ve made him millions of liens.

3) Lie Ren mocked Summer Rose after her death and has even pissed on her tombstone

And the victim of this round is...Sage Ayana. During the class trial, the group discusses whether anyone had any statements involving Sage. The only ones who do turn out to be Jaune, Coco, and Blake. Ruby proves that Coco was in her room at the time of the murder while Blake is cleared by Sun Wukong (he says something about how Blake needed him for help with a special project).

Side note: Blake later reveals that her special project was investigating the academy to find any clues regarding Monokuma’s identity and what happened to Hope’s Peak. 

This leaves Jaune. After prying him for information, Jaune reveals that his statement about Sage was, “Sage Ayana was planning on blackmailing Jaune’s family after finding out he forged his transcripts”. Everyone starts suspecting Jaune of being the killer because of this. Then, surprisingly, Jaune admits to killing Sage. 

However, after analyzing the evidence, Ruby realizes that Jaune is innocent and is trying to cover for the real killer. Reasoning that Jaune would only do this for people he cared for, Ruby then realizes that the killer has to be someone from JNPR. And that person turns out to be...Pyrrha Nikos. 

Despite Jaune’s attempts to defend Pyrrha, Ruby eventually proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Pyrrha killed Sage. After admitting defeat, Pyrrha says that she killed Sage on accident. She and Jaune had confronted Sage and, after a heated argument, Jaune and Sage started fighting. Pyrrha intervened, resulting in Sage’s death. 

Pyrrha’s execution: Just like the show, Pyrrha is killed by incineration. However, before she dies, Pyrrha sees that the people “responsible” for killing her are robots made to look like JN_R. 

(students eliminated: Sage Ayana, Pyrrha Nikos / 12 students remaining) 

(quick note: just like the actual games, the execution in this chapter is meant to propel one character’s arc forward. Mondo in DR1 and Peko in DR2)

Chapter 3 

The motive for this round is control of the Schnee Dust Company. This immediately makes the group wary of Weiss, believing that she’ll try to murder someone in order to maintain control of her family’s business. Weiss tries to convince Ruby that she won’t do such a thing but Ruby, for the first time, is unconvinced of her friend’s intentions. 

This chapter is especially brutal since we have two murders to deal with. The first turns out to be Fox Alistair. Then, several minutes later, Neptune Vasilias ends up dead. 

The class trial for this chapter is especially complicated due to the two murders. First, the students find out that Neptune was the one who murdered Fox. Ruby wonders if Neptune wanted control of the Schnee Dust Company, to which Sun Wukong says that doesn’t sound like Neptune to him. When the students dig further into the evidence, they start to wonder if Neptune was working with someone.

Ruby proposes the theory that Neptune was ordered by someone to kill Fox. He was then killed by that same person so that the unknown person can claim credit for a murder and to create a complicated scenario that would help them avoid being exposed in trial. This leads to the students turning against Weiss. Ruby points out that Weiss had the most to lose from this motivation and that it would’ve been easy for her to get Neptune to do her dirty work for her (they are still romantically involved in this universe). 

After a round of intense questioning, Weiss finally breaks down and reveals that she did indeed plan everything out. She got Neptune to kill Fox and then planned to kill Neptune to complete her plan. However, she swears that she didn’t kill him. Someone else got to Neptune before she could. 

When Ruby wonders who else had a reason to kill Neptune, she realizes that the only people who could have a reason would have to be someone close to Fox. This person would also had to have seen Neptune kill Fox and were angered to the point of taking revenge, knowing that would make them the guilty party in the class trial. Ruby then narrows the suspects to two people; Fox’s teammates, Coco Adel and Velvet Scarlatina. 

After another intense round of questioning and battling both Coco and Velvet’s arguments, Coco finally admits to killing Neptune. She says that she saw the whole thing and because she was still dealing with Yatsuhashi’s death, she just “snapped”. Coco then bitterly remarks that if she had kept her cool and let Weiss go through with her plan, she would’ve gotten her revenge anyways since Weiss would’ve been exposed in trial. 

Coco’s execution: In a bit of irony, Coco is killed by Monokuma with her own miniguns 

(students eliminated: Fox Alistair, Neptune Vasilias, Coco Adel / 9 students remaining) 

(quick note: just like the games, 3 students are eliminated this round. Also, yes, this is a variation of the Celestia Ludenberg case)

Chapter 4 

The motivation for this round is...nothing! Monokuma says that he was going to give them one but, based on the previous chapter, the group doesn’t need one due to Weiss’ presence. No one, not even Ruby, feels comfortable being around Weiss, despite all her attempts to get people to trust her again. 

Eventually, the group does start to warm up to Weiss again. However, that’s when Monokuma intervenes and claims that he helped Weiss with her plot to kill Fox and Neptune. When Ruby asks how he helped her, Monokuma says that in exchange for information on how to best accomplish her murder scheme, Weiss acted as his “mole” by reporting to him directly about the group’s actions. This further enrages the group, especially Blake since she’s been trying to find a way out of Hope’s Peak Academy.

Just as the group is about to imprison Weiss, she ends up dead. Ruby finds Weiss’ body in her room, apparently having committed suicide. Ruby even finds a suicide note by Weiss’ bedside drawer.

The class trial is initially seen as a piece of cake since it’s clear that Weiss committed suicide. It’s only Ruby and Blake who are unconvinced. They insist that the group review the evidence anyways since there might be something they’re missing. 

As the groups digs deeper into the evidence, the students realize that there was indeed more to this death than they originally thought. It turns out, Weiss DIDN’T commit suicide. Someone took advantage of the group’s paranoia surrounding Weiss and her own guilt from the previous trial. They then killed Weiss and made it look like she killed herself out of despair. 

The group then starts flip-flopping on who could’ve done this. First, the group targets Velvet since she could’ve been seeking to avenge Coco and Fox. Then, the group targets Sun Wukong since he was friends with Neptune and may have been furious over how his friend was manipulated. 

Eventually, the group exposes the true killer: Scarlet David. Turns out, he also had the same idea as everyone else and was hoping that the group would focus on Velvet and Sun. Scarlet then says that he had nothing against Weiss, it was purely just to survive. However, he also says that he was justified in what he did due to Weiss’ actions in chapter 3. 

Scarlet’s execution: Scarlet is incased in ice. He is then crushed to death by Weiss’ Arma Gigas as a bit of ironic revenge from beyond the grave. 

(students eliminated: Weiss Schnee, Scarlet David / 7 students remaining)

Chapter 5

As the penultimate chapter, Blake’s side mission that was mentioned earlier takes the forefront. Since chapter 2, Blake, Sun, Ruby, and Jaune have been working together to solve the mystery of Hope’s Peak Academy, Monokuma, and what happened to them. In their investigation, the group discovers that a “great disaster” happened to Remnant and that it somehow involves Monokuma. 

There is no motivation this round once again. However, someone still ends up dead. The unlucky student this time around is...Nora Valkyrie. Ren is especially angered by this since Nora was his best friend/the person he was technically “together-together” with. During the investigation, Ruby is troubled by the fact that the evidence she’s been collecting doesn’t paint a logical picture. Unlike the previous murders, Nora’s death seems...unnatural. Like it shouldn’t have happened. 

The class trial for this case is arguably the toughest of the 6 trials. Nothing seems to go anywhere and, despite the breakthroughs made by Ruby, none of the evidence adds up to anything. Ruby then starts to suspect something about this trial; what if this trial is rigged? 

Ruby’s suspicions are somewhat confirmed when the group starts honing in on Blake and herself. Ren and Velvet accuse Blake and Ruby of being aloof from the group, to which they defend themselves by saying that they have their reasons for being on their own. Ruby starts to realize that this is what Monokuma wants and that Monokuma may have killed Nora himself in order to set up a case in which the only answer was either Blake or herself. 

Before Ruby can bring this up, Monokuma claims that he had nothing to do with Nora’s death. Knowing that the situation is doomed and that it was between her and Blake, Ruby takes the fall by saying that she has no alibi. Blake tries to stop Ruby from taking the fall but the group overrides her arguments. Ruby is voted off and, much to Blake and Ruby’s surprise, Monokuma proclaims that the group got the right answer. 

Ruby’s “execution”: Ruby is taken to an angry crowd where she’s laid down on a tree stump. An executioner wielding Crescent Rose appears, preparing to decapitate her. Before he can, Jaune Arc arrives and helps Ruby escape. To ensure Ruby survives, Jaune tosses Ruby down a garbage disposal chute. He’s then stabbed through the back by the executioner, killing him instantly. However, he dies with a smile on his face, knowing that he saved Ruby.  

(students eliminated: Nora Valkyrie, Jaune Arc / 5 students remaining)

Chapter 6 

Ruby wakes up in the garbage disposal, hazy but alive. As she gathers her bearings, she’s met by Blake Belladonna, who had jumped into a different garbage disposal chute to save her. Ruby and Blake make their way out of the area and back to the main lobby. When Monokuma says that Ruby has to be executed due to Jaune’s interference, Blake argues that Ruby should never have been declared guilty in the first place due to the previous trial being obviously rigged. Blake then says that they deserve a re-trial and if Ruby is declared guilty once again, then they will respect the verdict.

Monokuma reluctantly agrees to this, leading to Ruby and Blake realizing that Monokuma is purely observing their actions. He won’t actually involve himself in their deaths and actively encourages them to solve the murders on their own. It was almost as if he wanted them to solve their problems themselves. 

Ruby, Blake, Ren, Sun, and Velvet reconnect and, after squashing any previous feelings of distrust, agree to work together to solve Nora’s murder once and for all. In the class trial, the group hits all the same snags they hit in Chapter 5. However, this time, the group approaches the situation as if Nora’s death was rigged. That’s when Ruby realizes that they need to figure out how Nora even died in the first place.

When Ruby digs further into the evidence, Ruby realizes that Nora’s death was purely a freak occurrence. Turns out, she suffered a random brain aneurysm that had nothing to do with any of the investigations. After making this clear, the group discussion turns to who arranged her body to make it seem like she was murdered. 

After confirming that none of the group was involved in arranging Nora’s body (including Jaune), Ruby points to Monokuma as being responsible. Monokuma once again declares he had nothing to do with Nora’s death, to which Ruby points out a loophole; Monokuma DIDN’T kill Nora, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t arrange the scene afterwards. Ruby then points out that Monokuma used Nora’s sudden death to his advantage to get the group to turn against herself and Blake. 

With his act exposed, Monokuma decides to reveal himself. And it turns out that Monokuma this whole time was...Ozpin. Just then, the rest of Hope’s Peak Academy’s staff and students (who are really just the Beacon Academy staff) enter the trial room and congratulate the surviving students. Even the students’ families are there to cheer them on. 

The students are shocked when they hear the explanation behind Hope’s Peak Academy. Ozpin reveals that the entire mystery of Hope’s Peak Academy was just a set-up for the real experiment. This entire process, the true purpose of the killing game, was to weed out the weak students. He says that, due to the coming of the dark lord known as “Salem”, they needed Huntsmen and Huntresses who could survive the harshest of challenges. So, Ozpin and the rest of the Hope’s Peak staff devised the “Danganronpa experiment”. They would torture the potential students mentally and physically and those who were able to figure out Monokuma’s identity and survive the challenges would be fit to graduate to the second-level of Huntsman and Huntress training in Hope’s Peak. 

Ruby is horrified by this revelation. When she says that her family wouldn’t have approved of this, that’s when she sees that Qrow Branwen and Taiyang Xiao Long are in the room as well. They congratulate her on surviving “Danganronpa”, saying that she has what it takes to be a Huntress. They then reveal that they also survived a version of “Danganronpa”, which further shocks Ruby since they never told her about their experiences in Hope’s Peak. The game ends on that bittersweet note.

Headcanons of how Coco, Cinder and Yang would comfort their s/o who is going through some tough times?

Cinder Fall: Cinder would probably be very straight-forward, telling you to get over what you’re currently going through as there are far bigger things at stake with the world as it was. She’s not the best motivational speaker and if you were expecting to be coddled by her, you’ll find you’re poorly mistaken, but she knows how to make you feel like you still have worth even if you’ve run into constant dead ends. She’ll tell you that you must continue on, there’s no choice but to keep going until you’re taken out permanently, and that she’ll be waiting on you to make the right choice (aka continuing to follow her orders until said day of death comes). 

Coco Adel: Coco is a mixture of sympathetic yet tough love, knowing that you couldn’t always rely on her to pick you back up on tough days but that being there for you when you truly needed her was something she could pick up on. Her words are gentle even if they’re tough, telling you that life would be a constant obstacle course with things that seemed impossible looming over you but that didn’t mean you could simply give in. She said you have a few more hours of feeling sorry for yourself before she expects to see you back up and at it again, giving you a smile and patting your cheek before leaving you with your thoughts. 

Yang Xiao-Long: Yang tries to be empathetic to the situation at hand, knowing how she helps cheer you up could affect your relationship in the long-run; she knew exactly what needed to be said to motivate you but also what would be perceived negatively by you. She’s more positive than most and she feels like she’s built for pep talks as she’s not one to turn down a challenge if you’re particularly hard to get through to. She’s determined to make you see the bright side of the situation you’re in, even if it’s hard, and she’s patient in knowing that sometimes it takes time before you can fully sort your thoughts and understand how she’s trying to help.

Coco, Weiss, Ilia, and Penny are stuck in their apartment together when Atlas institutes a lockdown for the pandemic. As is the case with many roommates who never planned to spend this much time together arguments, and romance, ensue.

Written for @rwbyrarepairweek Mini Event! To be extra clear here: This is directly inspired by he Covid-19 situation going on right now. There is no subtly in my references in this fic to living in lock down. Please keep that in mind before reading below the cut or clicking the link.

Atlas was of two camps about the virus – keep everything going as normal for the economy OR stop everything immediately and institute martial law. Weiss had heard both of the opinions constantly since the start of the outbreak had hit Mistral - one from her father and the other from her sister. Her personal opinion was that she didn’t give a damn as long as the city picked one! That didn’t work out quite the way she was expecting.

“General Ironwood just shut down the city.” Coco’s statement cut through the noise of all three of her roommates’ evening routines.

Penny’s eyes opened comically wide, “W-what’s that mean?!”

“It means we’re to shelter in place unless we’re an essential worker,” Coco continued reading her scroll. Her eyes were narrowing with every word. “None of us qualify.”

Weiss shrugged and started for her room, “I’ll pack a bag to go stay with my sister then.” She didn’t even reach the door before she heard Ilia snort.

“Nice try, princess,” Ilia drawled, but she held up her scroll. The same notice that Coco was reading was displayed on her screen. In big, block letters at the top were the words Effective Immediately.

“Well…” Penny sighed and then forced her spine straight with a bright smile, “We’ll just have to make the most of it then!”

Coco’s eyes rose from her scroll. She looked first at Ilia and then at Weiss, finally she landed on Penny. She raised a brow, “Twenty credits someone dies within the first week.”

“I’m sure we’ll be fine,” Penny chuckled nervously, hands moving up in front of her stomach for her to fidget with her fingers. Coco smiled at the gesture before her eyes slid to her other two roommates. Weiss and Ilia were facing each other, arms crossed and glares in place.

Perhaps a week had been too generous…

There are a lot of factors that go into selecting roommates when you move into an apartment. Coco had not considered forced isolation together when interviewing candidates. She’d picked Weiss for her neatness, Ilia had been Velvet and Blake’s friend, and Penny had come with a recommendation from General Ironwood himself.

“It’s not that hard!” Weiss screamed as she threw an empty toilet paper roll at Ilia’s head. Coco lowered her scroll, but did not move her legs from where they were tucked beneath her on the couch. This was the third argument of the day. Coco’s brow was already twitching.

“Then do it yourself!” Ilia snapped back. Her hands were fisted at her side and Coco watched them twitch at Weiss scoffed. “What? Is the high and mighty Schnee heiress too good to handle a toilet paper roll?”

Coco looked at her scroll and thumbed a quick text. Penny responded in a matter of seconds. Coco closed her eyes and sent up a silent prayer to the brothers before clearing her throat. Ilia and Weiss both turned to glare at her. “Penny just parked. Get the disinfectant spray and rags.” She stood from the couch and leveled them both with her own glare, “Or do you two need more time to continue discussing which direction the toilet paper roll goes?”

“Sorry,” Weiss turned on the balls of her feet and marched off to the cabinet of cleaners. Ilia grumbled under her breath, but cleared the dining room table. Coco took a breath and then opened their front door.

Penny was standing on the other side, mask in place and arms loaded with grocery bags. Her head was tilted to one side and Coco could already tell that she was smiling sympathetically. “I haven’t killed them yet,” Coco reassured her as she stepped back to let Penny enter.

The bags were placed on the table swiftly and then Penny went to wash her hands. Coco closed the door. Weiss was methodically cleaning all of the groceries, from bag to wrapper to container. As she finished each item it was placed in a designated clean spot. Ilia would then put them away. This activity required no talking or interacting between the two and, as such, was the only activity that didn’t instigate an argument.

“So!” Penny popped up beside Coco in fresh clothes, sans mask, and smelling faintly of motor oil. “How were things while I was gone?” Coco dropped her head back and to the side. Even without her heels Coco was forced to look down at the ginger. She did so with as blank as expression as she could manage. It was often difficult to keep such a face when looking at Penny. “That bad?”

“Three arguments,” Coco held up three fingers and grimaced, “I swear, I’m going to lock them in a room soon and let them kill each other.”

Penny chuckled, a blush rising on her cheeks, “I don’t think they’d kill each other.” She averted her eyes as Coco straightened beside her.

“What?” The word came out much deeper than Coco wanted. Her voice cracked slightly and her eyes drifted lower over Penny’s now fidgeting form. A hand was rubbing nervously at her elbow and Coco was transfixed by the movement.

“You know…” Penny looked over at their – blessedly silent – roommates and then back at Coco. She attempted to wiggle her brows suggestively, but the resulting facial expression was much closer to shock, “Opposites attract and all that.”

Coco turned to look at Ilia and Weiss. Ilia snatched a package of toilet paper out of the clean zone with excessive force. The tension snapped up Weiss’s body and she set the next item down with a loud bang.

“I’ll take you word for it,” Coco drawled and looked at Penny from the corner of her eye. The other woman shrugged and rocked backwards on her heels. “How were the stores?” The perpetual smile that Penny maintained better than Coco did sarcasm dropped like an anchor. “Nevermind.”

Penny woke up to the sounds of panting and groaning. Her eyes blinked rapidly as she struggled into consciousness. She sat up, brow furrowed and nose scrunched up. And then the pieces fell into place. Penny didn’t spare a glance for the wall she shared with Ilia’s room before she abandoned her bed for the living room.

“What are you doing up?” Coco’s voice startled Penny as she stepped into the common area. A lamp came on and Penny’s eyes quickly adjusted to see the brunette sitting on the couch, one hand rustling her hair. A book sat abandoned on the coffee table.

“Uh…” Penny scratched the back of her head. Her face warmed. “Let’s just say I was right about Weiss and Ilia.” She averted her eyes as Coco froze mid-yawn.

Coco’s lips quirked up and she chuckled lightly, “It was probably too much to ask that they’d do that quietly at least huh?” Coco turned her head to crack her neck and then did the same with her back, twisting about on the couch before falling backwards into pillows.

“Well…” Penny rocked backwards onto her heels, biting her bottom lip as attempted not to stare at Coco’s wiggling form, “…what are you doing out here?”  

The brunette shrugged, finally settling back with one arm draped across the back of the sofa and legs curled beneath her. “Sleep schedules are the first casualties of lockdown,” Coco nodded towards the television, “I was thinking of binging this new show Yatsu recommended, care to join?” She patted the couch beside her and winked at Penny, “I promise not to get fresh without your permission.”

Penny shuffled forward to take her seat. Her heart rate shot up as soon as she caught a whiff of the caramel coffee creamer that Coco had been mainlining since her access to lattes had dried up. She settled in beside her roommate, their knees knocking together as Coco pulled up a show on their television.

After three hours Penny couldn’t tell you anything about the show they were watching – she was fairly positive there was time travel though – but she knew the exact cadence of Coco’s heartbeat. A couple began to confess their love for each other on screen and the beat shifted.

“I should have known Yatsu would trick me into watching some soap opera,” Coco whispered into Penny’s ear with a breathy laugh. Penny’s ears felt like they were on fire as she glanced between the couple kissing on screen to Coco’s lithe body draped across the sofa like a quilt. She was leaning back against the armrest now, her feet propped up on the coffee table. The afghan that was usually wadded up somewhere in the living room was spread of her lap. Coco huffed dramatically, “He’s always liked the mushy bits.”

“Mushy bits can be fun,” Penny’s giggle was almost hysterical. She was now overly aware of the fact that she and Coco were alone, together, on the same couch, Coco’s warm skin pressed against Penny’s knee.

Coco snorted, she leaned forward, “Don’t go soft on me now, Polendina.” There was a twinkle to Coco’s dark brown eyes. They swirled a little like melted chocolate and Penny found herself swallowing as she stared into them. “We need to get through this lockdown with our genre preferences intact,” Coco’s lips pulled up into a smile as she spoke and Penny’s eyes fell to the puffy pink mounds now cracked and pale. Coco had run out of lip gloss and chap stick last week.

“We should have a snack!” Penny popped up and off the couch. Coco raised a brow. “Marathons require snacks! That was Ruby and Yang’s number one rule when I lived in Vale.” Penny rushed into the kitchen, rambling about chips and popcorn and soda. Coco leaned back to watch her fret about the common area like a chicken with its head chopped off.

“No sugar for you, Penny,” Coco stood up, stretching her arms above her head and then folded herself in half to touch her toes. She groaned as her lower back cracked loudly.

In the kitchen Penny paused to look back at Coco with concern. Coco waved her off as she entered and began to rummage in the freezer behind the ginger. Penny stuck a bag of popcorn in the microwave.

“Want a kiss?” Coco asked and Penny whipped her head around with a squeak. In her outstretched hand Coco held chocolate kisses. She grinned at Penny’s wide eyes and red cheeks, “I meant the chocolate, but if you’re interested…”

“Thanks!” Penny took the chocolate and looked pointedly back at the microwave. She watched the popcorn bag grow with focus and determination. Her brow furrowed and her shoulders were stiff.

Coco hopped up on the counter beside her, legs kicking out as she popped a piece of chocolate into her mouth. She eyed up Penny’s body, the tension and the curves, with a slow and calculating precision, “Hey Penny?” Penny shifted to look at her. Coco leaned over and kissed her lightly on the lips.

Penny blinked when Coco quickly retreated, “Oh.” She blinked again. Her entire body turned to face Coco’s and her fingers began to fidget in her pajama shorts. “So…you weren’t kidding about…” Penny’s eyes bounced from Coco’s eyes to the floor, “…about the other sort of kiss.”

“When do I kid?” Coco raised her arms out in an exaggerated shrug and laughed as Penny rolled her eyes. “I’m game if you are, Polendina.” Penny took a step closer to stand directly in front of Coco on the counter. Neither of them noticed when the microwave started to beep.

Ilia emerged from her room groggy. Her hair fell into her face and her eyes remained closed as she shuffled into the kitchen in search of the breakfast Weiss had pushed her out of bed to fetch. The sound of the television pulled her attention into the living room.

“Holy –” A grin spread over Ilia’s face as she rubbed at her eyes, not quite believing the sight before her.

Curled up on the couch, legs intertwined, was Penny and Coco. The sarcastic and snappy insomniac that had long-lived in Coco’s body was cocooned in Penny’s arms, head resting gently on the shorter girl’s shoulder and hair plastered to her face.

“What are you gaping at?” Weiss groaned as she appeared behind Ilia. She rested her chin on Ilia’s shoulder and the started when she finally noticed. “Oh no…”

“Oh yes…” Ilia smirked as she turned to look at Weiss, “Pay up, Schnee, it only took a month.”

I would just like to point out that I started this at 2am today (because procrastination) and just finished at *checks time* 11:57pm. So I wrote over 2000 words of fic today and am feeling SUPER productive. 10/10 Proud of myself and had to brag. Stay safe everybody!
