been thinking lately about why i identify so closely with vampires apart from aesthetics and i think it’s got to do with growing up and being told repeatedly how much wiser i am for my age, how i’m an old soul, and/or how i feel older than my age would suggest.

there’s something really off-putting about being told so many times by both adults and peers that you simply do not fit in or belong with either group; that you will always be somewhat misaligned with them because of your age or temperament. in many ways, it can feel like a sort of banishment by both sides because of your lack of wherewithal in fitting in seamlessly with each of them.

i suppose that’s why vampires, these mythic creatures stuck in time and forever cursed to be quietly misunderstood by the vast population, feel like the description i fit best under. obviously i’m not a bloodsucking creature, but the internal struggle of misalignment and misunderstanding is one i can very closely and painfully identify with and, if i had to, i’d wager that many people who love the vampire label also feel similarly.

(that and the inherent sensuality and sexiness that vampires have is just hot af and incredibly alluring to replicate)
