Mini addition to Mars’ Guide to Turtle Noises: Kisses!
Many people loved to hear that turtles bump their noses together as a form of greeting so I thought I’d elaborate on that for fun!
Turtles bump their noses together (or ‘kiss’) to communicate, show affection, and greet one another. This is more common in younger turtles than older turtles. Fun fact: turtles will sometimes try to bump noses with their own reflection in the water!
When a turtle greets a human they like, they will bump their nose against the humans hand or arm! Turtles will still use their nose to express themselves in that manner, no matter if it be with a fellow turtle or human.
Nose touching can also be used as a form of aggression or show of dominance, which often turns into head butting.
