am I dreaming? no, it’s called surrealism--
Never Miss Fine Arts Department: Lincoln in Dalivision
Surrealism - a movement obsessed with the human subconscious & dreams. Particularly in terms of memory and perception.
Lincoln in Dalivision is peak surrealism, its an exploration of the subconscious and the ability of the mind to perceive things that are not really there. Also there is an element of precision- Dali calculated that a distance of 20 meters was the distance the observer could clearly perceive the mosaic image. As one approaches the image, it morphs into a collection of different pictures, all of which appear to be unique and separate from the entirety of the image. We will dig deeper into the artist, and the collective movement, but for now we’ll leave this up for inspiration.... ~ never miss

Post 3: First Week Adjusting
This week was a little bit of a hectic one filled with a lot of emotions - in the best way possible. It is somewhat overwhelming at first to go from a small college town, to the restless city of Barcelona. That being said, you get so close with your roommates or can make friends that are feeling the same emotions as you are. My program does a very good job of keeping us busy and showing the city so that we are accustomed to it. The first thing we did was go on a walking tour of a popular neighborhood in Barcelona. We explored the Gothic Quarter and saw so many cute shops, great food, and topped off with a gorgeous fountain at Ciutadella Park.
They then helped us get metro tickets, and showed us step by step how to get home, to school, or practically anywhere in Barcelona! The metro seemed scary at first but it really is not too bad, there are signs everywhere and if you really can’t figure out where to go, you can download the app CityMapper. This has been a lifesaver especially when trying to go places I have never been; you type in where you want to go and it gives you step by step information on which line to take, get off, to switch, to walk, and to when exactly you will be there! We topped this adventurous day by grabbing some delicious pizza from a place right down the street from us.
The following day, we had orientation at the beautiful UAB campus. I am sorry USC, but I might like Barcelona's schools a little bit better! All of my classes are held in one building, and all the students are mostly from America, so it feels comforting knowing everyone else there is in the same boat- and speaks english.
The weekend rolled around and we had our very first day trip with SAI! We traveled to the beautiful City of Girona and stopped at the Dali Museum. We met at the bus stop at 8 am sharp and took the bus up an hour north for our first pit stop; the unique Dali Museum. I had never heard of Dali before, but he is integrated his work all across Spain and especially in Barcelona. He is an abstract artist who has an entire museum dedicated to him, and constructed the architecture of many buildings; all of his work is quirky and conceptual that tickle your brain.
We then hopped on the bus 30 minutes north to Girona! This was a spectacular city with castles, colorful houses, rivers, and where some of Game Of Thrones was filmed. I am a huge fan of this show; my eyes lit up when our tour guide was explaining this scene took place on these steps and under this building. This was home to one of the best caesar salads and bolognese I have had in my life, we ate in outside in a square people watching and observing the streets of girona.
Overall, this was a great (action packed) first week; it kept me busy, preoccupied, and let me see more of Barcelona. I love it here already!!

Heading to the Dali Museum tomorrow
Should be good. Although the fastest way there from here goes over the sunshine skyway bridge, and I am not looking forward to driving that..
