send DIFFERENT for a scene from my muse's past that they feel changed their outlook / personality / etc, for the better or worse
“Something I don’t understand,” Dark said.
“And what’s that?” The padjal replied, voice placid as a pond on a still summer afternoon.
“The Elementals removed the Ixal for their excessive logging and hunting, right?”
The padjal nodded and continued with his gardening work as they moved through this stretch of the forest, Dark aiding his cultivation of the natural resources along old paths created by generations of animals and people.
“And there are others living within the Hedge now; cutpurses, and gangs of hunters, and others who cause problems for travelers and the various settlements, but they are allowed to stay.”
“They do not upset the balance of the Wood,” the padjal said simply. “While they may live outside the laws of Man, they are yet children of the forest, and practice similar hunting and gathering practices to ensure the balance is maintained.”
“What of outsiders, like those refugees coming from Ala Mhigo?” the roegadyn girl asked, thinking of her cousins still in the East End.
“So long as they learn how to live in harmony within the Hedge, with the conservation practices we must abide by, they will always be welcome; the Wood provides for all.”
She frowned. “But I thought the Elementals want them to leave, because their very presence upsets the balance.”
The padjal frowned and straightened. “I’ve sensed no such thing. Where did you hear that?”
She hesitated. “Well our local hearer said—”
The padjal’s face clouded. “Which Hearer?” He demanded, voice like thunder. She stared, suddenly reminded this small, slight, child-like figure was in truth *decades* older than herself, a vessel for the power of Nature in all its fury.
“C-Constallaine,” she replied.
The padjal made a face, then shook his head, some of the storm clearing. “I’m not angry at you, child,” he said, voice gentle again, though she still heard the thunderous undertones. “But you must understand, Dark Autumn: the Elementals are not people. They are not mortal. They are Nature, and do not see nor understand the world as we do. They do not see political boundaries, or ethnicity. They are the Wood.”
She nodded politely, but she already knew this. Any forestborn did, since they were a baby.
“Hearers interpret the Elementals. But Hearers *are* people. Hearers *are* mortal. Hearers *do* see political boundaries, and ethnicities.” The padjal sighed. “Elementals don’t lie—they *can’t*. They don’t speak the way we do, nor share the same understanding. They simply…are. And they simply do.”
“But people can, and do, lie,” Dark said slowly. The padjal nodded as she frowned. “But Hearers are s’posed to report the will of the Elementals.”
“They are,” the padjal said, a rumbling growl in his voice again. “I will speak to Constallaine about his interpretations, and remind him of his duty to the Wood.” He looked around, and smiled, though it was tense. “Thank you for your help today, child; go on home now. I suspect you have much to think on.”
Dark nodded and watched him walk further into the woods, swiftly swallowed by shadows and leaves. She turned to make the walk home, mulling over the learned respect of Hearers and their words, compared to the lifelong teachings and experiences with the Elementals of the Twelveswood.

#1 Part 2: Villain x Hero
・┆✦Your Choice ɞ✦ ┆・
Hero could hear the crunching of snow beneath boots. Eyes looking around frantically as blurred vision suppressed Hero's judgment. Hero caught sight of a lake and trail of blood ahead of her.
'I'm...being dragged away..What's happening '? Hero thought to herself before blacking out.
・┆✦ʚ♡ɞ✦ ┆・
Clink...clink...clink
Hero's eyes darted open upon the sound.
Eyes landing on the source; it was Villain, organizing what seemed to be medical equipment on a metal tray. Why was Villain here? Where was here?!
Hero sat up instantly, ignoring all the painful warnings her body was screaming to take it easy. Villain's attention quickly focused on Hero.
"Oh, you're awake". Hero couldn't read the look on his face but, knew Villain to be manipulative.
"I was worried you would be out for the rest of the day" Villian Chuckled. Rising up, tray in hand, Villain made his way over to Hero, crouching to her level.
"Stay back"! Hero snapped. "W-what am I doing here? Where am I? Why are YOU here"? Hero's eyes scanned everywhere around the room.
Villain smiled affectionately, head resting on his palm. "Suppose I hit you a little harder than I intended. I gave you my offer, remember?...At the lake"? Villain hummed.
"At..the lake?" Hero gripped their head, groaning in agony as a rush of sharp pains started to shoot through their head. Aching and throbbing, Hero started to take notice of the pain in their body as the memories came rushing back to them.
"B-But I answered. I GAVE you my answer! I said no-I SAID NO!"-
"And I Lied". Villain said nonchalantly. "Now then! Let's get you fixed up". Villain beamed, grabbing a pair of scissors.
'i said "no"...why? I gave an answer' Hero felt her blood boiling. 'I'm a human being! It's my choice- what the- who the hell does he think he is'?!!
"DON'T"! Hero demanded, stopping Villian in his tracks. Hero quickly scooted away, back pressed flushed against the wall. "Don't come any closer to me"! The sound of metal, averting her gaze to her wrist. Shackles around each one, linking to the wall behind Hero. Movement limited to a few feet.
Hero's eyes widened, slowly meeting Villains. "W-what's wrong with you"? Hero breathed.
"Come now, Hero". Villian rose to his feet, going over to the table, grabbing what looked like ointment, before making his way back over to Hero. "You're in no position to ignore my treatment right now. You're mine, remember"?
"I mean it" Hero glared, hands held out in front of her, defensively. "I don't belong to anyone, or anything! I'm warning you. Let me go, or I'll make you!"
Villain stopped once again letting out an annoyed scoff. "Look here Hero. It was you who fell for my offer".
Hero tensed, feeling rather embarrassed.
It was annoying. 'Why should I feel embarrassed? It wasn't my fault'.
"I advise you to listen, and relax. Or else I'll have to "assist" you again. You're better off being obedient than causing yourself more trouble".
Hero felt her embarrassment double. Hero was enraged. 'What did he want? He was clearly insane! Did he actually think his want for power justified this? There's no way. I won't stay here!'
Hero stood up as steadily as her body would allow her. Wounds and bruises sending shocks of pain throughout Hero's body. Villian raised a brow at Hero.
"No. I advised you to listen. Just because you've Kidnapped me and brought me here, doesn't mean I'll lay my ass and play doll." Hero snarled, making her way over to Villain, the chain stopping her right in front of him.
Villain tilted his head, a sick smile twisting on his face. Mockery exhibit. "And just what exactly do you think you can do"?
Villain flashed a smile, tucking his hands in his pockets.
"Tch... Anything to get the hell out here. You're insane. Don't you have any sense?! You can't keep me here! Someone's going to realize I'm missing. I'll fight you to my last breath if I have to."
"Hero, you're on my board. One wrong move and it's over for you. This isn't a game you'll win. I assure you. Step down"~ Velvety malic laced every word. Warning. daring. Villain sounded practically eager.
"You're delusional. I'm very much surprised that you believe your wants justify your actions. Are you actually using your brain? Or do you think this is just fun? You're making a mistake. A stupid one."!
Villain's demeanor grew more and more amused. 'There it was, again. That spiteful fight. An ambition that knew no boundaries. How could anyone not love Hero? It's no wonder everyone was rooting for her. No, not just because she's a protector of the nation- not only. It's because she's Hero! Always fighting for what she believes in. Never giving up even when she's no choice but to be the damsel in distress. Hero fights with a possible purpose. Or maybe none at all. A confidence that could easily be mistaken for obsession'. Villain deemed himself grateful and thanked God for allowing him to meet Hero. How vile it is for Hero to be Villain's rival. A nemesis- standing opposite of Villian. Villain couldn't deny it though. It only made his heart ache for more, sending a surge of excitement and obsession through his veins. Oh- there it is afresh. That gratifying high, sending Villian toppling over the edge. Mind going in a frenzy.
'Hero, you'll be the death of me if I don't break that spite. Though, I enjoy it way too much to just shut you down. No..I'll wait. I'll wait and enjoy every bit of it. Like a predator waiting to pounce at the perfect time'. Villain's eyes scanned over Hero's tiny frame. Bruise after blemish decorated Hero's injured body. It was a wonder how Hero was still standing- hell, conscious with the condition her body was in. Simply another aspect of Hero's memorizing conduct.
'It's a shame you've got such venom. If only you would speak of me as I do of you. Such a thrilling experience you always give me. Courageousness that's as stubborn as you. Skill and agility always leaving profound impressions. Poise...poise that has yet to fall'. Villain's eyes softened, with desire.
'I can't wait. The look on your face will be well worth it. I'll build you up. Let you have the benefit of the doubt. Hold you on the highest pedestal. Then, and only then..will I let you fall. No...no. I'll make you fall. I'll push you off myself. Plundering into a darkness you've never seen. I know you'll fight back, be weary. However, it'll only add to the thrill. I love seeing that fire in your eyes, but I also want to see that very flame fight to stay lit. To struggle to ignite. Your stature, your grace, the very being of your determination shall wilt away little by little.
Like the mere clothing on your skin; I'll strip away that bravery until there's nothing left but you. Exposed, unveiled... simply...bare'.
Villian's smirk quickly faltered upon hearing Hero's words.
"You're so caught up in your own ideals that you're failing to realize none of it is common sense. You're in no place to order me around. I'm the Hero. I'm a human being! You can't do whatever you want! I have a choice- Whether you're good or not! You think this is all some fun little board game that you can play and doll me around in? This is child's play! Grow up, Villian"! Hero yelled, poking Villian in the chest, eyes flaring with rage.
Villian had Hero caged against the wall behind her in the blink of an eye.
"Allow me to remind you why you're here" Villain announced.
"YOU'RE"-
"Shut It". Villian insisted, voice booming.
As if under a spell Hero's eyes were glued to Villian's. Mouth sealed as commanded.
"Who was it that decided to take the role of Hero"?
"..."
"Hmm"? Villain hummed.
"..."
"Who was it that wanted to stick up for the good of the world- to "protect and serve"?
"..."
"Nothing to say now, Doll"? Villian tilted his head, voice sickly sweet.
"I...."
"I?... I'm human?....I'm a fool?... Who was it that decided to fight whomever is deemed bad? Who wanted to bring justice for the world? Who built their reputation on serving others- risking their life everyday? Fighting, battling, day after day? Going after me every time I started my day with a little 'fun"?
"..." Hero felt her breath hitch in her throat.
"Who thought it was wise to follow me out of the parking garage? Who was running after me into the thick snow blanketed forest? Freezing cold temperature- were you even thinking?
Did you have a reason to chase me? Oh...right...it's because I'm a villain, yes? Who was it that fell right into my trap? There was no back up, no plan, no second thoughts, was there? Who was it that refused my offer even after I'd drubbed them the first...seven times?"
"..."
"Answer me damn it"! Villain demanded, eyes holding a cold glare.
"Me...." Hero muttered, voice nearly a whisper.
"what"? Villian leaned in closer, as if to hear better.
"Me..."! Hero shouted, looking down.
"You...you who calls themselves a Hero, yet you can't even protect yourself! You who fell into my trap because you were so naive. You who wants to do good for the world but, doesn't know what's good for herself! You... who's an idiot"- Villian snarled.
Hero flinched. Feeling themselves shake, hero hated this. Hero felt small, defenseless...weak. 'Am I naive? I only wanted to do good for everyone!'
Hero wanted to curl up and hide from the shame. 'stop'!
"Stop It"! Hero cut in.
"You...do you even deserve to be called a Hero? What you did was stupid. Immature. Hell- if anyone finds out about this they'd probably be ashamed to call you their hero. Ah...but that's it. You're very skilled, agile, one of a kind. Applause to you, at such a young age"-
"Don't mock me"!
"You hate it don't you?..you know it's true. All of it. You were so quick and eager to do what you thought was right you ended up in the wrong place. I handed you your ass, and now you're stuck because of your own actions".
"You don't get to insult me"! Hero screamed, heart beating in anger.
"Ingenious little Hero~ So much so you're gullible...leaving yourself predictable and impotent. It's you who needs to grow up. You stepped into a game you can't escape. You were unsuspecting and callow, now you're bitching about it because you got caught!~ Villian cooed, tilting Hero's chin up, meeting eyes.
"I hate you- Shut up"!! Hero cried out, covering her ears!
Villian's hand was gripping around Hero's neck in a split second. Leaving little to no room between them, Villain had Hero's back pushed roughly against the wall, knocking the breath out of them.
"Shut up, and Hate me. Hate me Hero! Don't hold back! I want to see that fire in you! Fight my every word- every action. Oh come on!!! Don't tell me it's all gone already"?? Villian's grip grew vice.
Hero pulled at Villian's shirt, beating at his arm, his chest. Not a single flinch. Clawing and tugging at his arm. No movement.
Hero could feel herself growing lightheaded. It hurt- trying to get air, even just the tiniest bit. Spots of black, clouding Hero's sight.
Villian leered down at Hero. Eyes fixated on Hero's struggling. Eyes soft though menacing.
"Let's not forget... you played right onto my board. Getting too insolent will result in you falling off rather pitifully; suffering the consequences, or loosing. Don't think I won't ever penalize you". Villian whispered, lips grazing Hero's ear.
Just as Hero's eyes started to roll back and close, Villian let go. Villian couldn't help but to smile, deviance present upon his face. As he watched Hero slide down the wall, wheezing with tears trailing down her face.
Villain walked over to the desk, before shortly returning to Hero sitting. Back against the wall, staring at him with half lidded eyes. Dead eyes. The spark in them was definitely still there but, it would be a bit before it would ignite again.
Villian felt proud. A euphoria that no one could ever know. He'd humiliated Hero. Properly introduced her to his game, and made his move and there she was...Checkmate.
Villian walked over to Hero, crouching down, a sadistic smirk adorned his face, holding up a wet cloth and scissors.
"Let's continue, shall we"?~
