second verse same as the first, check out part one for my guidelines on how i made the teams! short version is only 4 pokemon per team, no repeats, and little to no shinies or legendaries

fun fact the unsleeping city was actually the first season i thought of pokemon for, and why i started to make teams in the first place!

i also like unsleeping city a uhhh a lot less than fantasy high so my fantasy high picks (part 1) are a lot more thought out and maybe cooler than these picks but hey i'm still happy with these!

oh also unsleeping ch. 1 and 2 spoilers ahead of course :]

Sophia

Purugly - symbolizing La Gran Gata! also it just feels like Sophia would have this pokemon it fits her Vibe

Furfrou (Heart Trim) - she is a hair stylist!! of course she would have the hair stylized dog!!! she mainly keeps her as the heart trim but it doesnt 100 percent always stay that way

Mienshao - cool and cute monk pokemon for obvious reasons lol

Raticate - represents kugrash after he dies(?). shockingly the raticate and purugly get along well, and are actually pretty nice with each other

Ricky

Boltund - there’s no dalmatian pokemon (which there should be maybe) so this is the closest i got to representing Ox! boltunds are VERY fast though so it still works lol

Blastoise - what better pokemon to have as a fireman than a giant water tank? probably got a squirtle when he was young and it evolved as he grew up :]

Kleavor - represents the fireman ax he carried

Machamp - Ricky is all about exercise so naturally i gave him the super buff pokemon. they probably train together and like do pushups or whatever fit people do

Kingston

Dachsbun - representing both the dog he gets in season 2 along with bagels in general, which seems to be a symbol for him (see the vox populi pin)

Drampa - similar to how i imagine the dragon of bleaker’s street would look, it also just feels like an old man of a pokemon (which kingston is)

Blissey - i like to imagine doctors/nurses get blisseys once they like are hired in healthcare to help their trainers with the patients (and also blisseys are absolute TANKS in terms of defense)

Magnezone - Kingston did that cool tech shutdown/takeover thing in one of the season one battles at the stock market and i thought that was cool. and also it fits because Vibes

Misty / Rowan

Gardevoir - a beautiful pokemon that always looks youthful, just like Rowan

Primarina - a singing pokemon that wouldve helped Misty practice her singing for plays

Meloetta - same reason, a singing pokemon lol

Scream Tail - rather than a standard Jigglypuff i would like to imagine an ancient thousand year old one was much more interesting! it also ties to Rowan's reincarnation thing she has goin' on

Iga

Goodra - a dragon to represent the storybook dragon inside of the chest she has! i didn’t do charizard because i saved that one for a future season team (take a guess who)

Gimmighoul - a chest pokemon because. she. she has a chest thats very important to her. yeah!!!

Perrserker - pure vibes i just feel she would have this pokemon lol

Hatterene - also mostly vibes, she Is a psychic so it works but yeah she gets a hatterene because i say so

Kugrash

Rapidash (Galarian) - unicorn totem

Unfezant (Male) - spicy pigeon totem

Ladyba - juicy cockroach totem (i didn’t do kricketune because i want to use it for a later team. can you again guess who)

Arceus - our first true legendary! kugrash literally becomes omnipotent so you know what he can have pokemon god on his team

Cody

Aegislash (Shiny) - it’s literally The sword pokemon of course Cody would have one. it’s shiny because if he spent a long time growing his real sword collection he can spend a long time finding a shiny. also it’s black and red like Thirsting Blade Dark Excalibur Mega Genesis

Grimmsnarl - the most emo pokemon ive ever seen so of course Cody gets it. as a treat

Houndoom - “but aloe why didn’t you give this to Fig?!” shshhhshshhhh. listen my sweet child. houndoom is for the emo boys. which Cody is. and also also it parallels the other paladin on the team, Ricky, and his dog pokemon, Boltund. does that make sense….

Corviknight - emo pokemon #3 on the team. also knight means sword so in a roundabout way it’s another sword related pokemon

Pete

Polteageist - Pete has a teapot in his official art and while yes. it is blue and so is the non-shiny form i think purple in general fits Pete a LOT more than blue so here we are lol

Musharna - literally the dream pokemon this was an easy peasy pick and very obvious

Hypno - another dream-like pokemon but much more scary to maybe represent a sort of nightmare compared to the sweeter dreams from Musharna

Vivillion (Garden Pattern) - representing Luna his green butterfly familiar! i feel like everyone (including the PCs) forget Luna exists and it makes me a little sad :(

some more info about ampharos and slowbro ^.^

When ampharos got dumped in slowpoke well he fell right on slowbro who was just chilling

"slowpoke well" actually is connected to an underground village of slowfolks(slowpokes slowbros slowkings) founded by a slowking

her dad was one of the only slowking in the well.

Slowbro didn't realize she was shiny until ampharos pointed it out. She used the word "shiny" to describe him first tho bc he was using his gem as a light source.

she called him amphy for awhile bc she didn't catch the rest of his name when he first said it.

Ampharos normally talked fast compared to most pokemon but slowed down considerably talking to slowbro, who talked very slow and paused a lot while talking herself and had a hard time keeping up w him when he didnt.

Slowbro liked seeing ecruteak...the same as goldenrod and wherever else they went together bc she had never left the well before...

they did honestly get along. It wasn't just ampharos manipulating her or anything they genuinely enjoyed each other's company and she wanted to see the outside world she had previously never given a second thought to...

She went to a kimono girl show before the incident and accidentally wandered onstage but the kimono girl was very polite about it.

Ampharos had mentioned his current job of bounty hunting and his past with ho oh and how there was actually a point that he was working at brass tower as a disciple or a guard or training to be one...before ho oh had told him to leave bc uhhh something something darkness in his heart. Slowbro couldn't keep up with this story when he told it tho...

It wasn't until she saw what would become known as burnt tower get struck by the harshest and loudest bolt of lightning/thunder she'd ever witnessed that she realized just how dangerous ampharos was...

Slowbro was already affected seeing the fire but seeing how the ecruteak citizens reacted to it made it even worse. namely the kimono girl from earlier and a Raticate mother sobbing and running desperately towards the burning building something about how "they were working tonight" having to be stopped from running straight into it...

By the time her and a few other water types were able to put the fire out. The building was already mostly burnt down...

ampharos was waiting for her on the route right past ecruteak during all that.

When slowbro saw him there she clocked him, broke his his head gem and she left without a word hoping she would never see him again...

(That probably wasn't the last time they saw each other but this post is long enough for now😔)

You know what I believe with all my heart?

The perfect pokemon for gilear is Psyduck. Just the most round Psyduck you've ever seen. With very little breaks in between headaches.

Ideas for at least one pokemon that matches each bad kid personality? You can do other fantasy high characters too if you want ...

Oh my god you are so fucking correct.

The problem is that you've activated my pokemon special interest. What I really want to do now is build a whole team for each bad kid. And maybe other parties as well.

For now, though, just a quick and not super thorough answer (i say, having taken 45 minutes to do this):

(I need you to know that it took so much self restraint to not make sure that all of the pokemon i choose have similar BSTs)

Fig- Skeledirge. That's a fire type bard right there.

Gorgug- Aegislash. Steel type seems kinda mandatory, but also there's something to Gorgug having these seemingly contradictory qualities of being anxious and withdrawn vs his barbarian rage, and the shield and blade form fit with that nicely, I think.

Adaine- Medicham. Mostly for the typing, tbh- psychic/fighting just makes sense for her. Honestly I'm not super happy with this one, but I've already put way more time into this question than I intended lol

Riz- Alolan Raticate. Very round, very small, very bitey. Specifically Alolan bc to me, rogue = dark type.

Kristen- Eevee. It feels really bad putting such a weak pokemon here, but with her whole arc being, like, she left her religion and she's got so many options as to who and what she can be. Like Adaine, there's probably a better answer I'm just not seeing right now.

Fabian- Quaquaval- fighting type and he dances now!

A Correction

so my highly unscientific vibe check (in amongst these asks) of the B&W gym leaders wasn’t the wild stab in the dark I assumed it was; excepting the disservice I did to Brycen and Burgh. Here’s a quick remedy to that plus some asks below:

@geeneelee​ The ones with food names are triplets! And I think you’ve vibe checked most of them correctly more or less? There are a few misses, like the ice guy is kind of depressed and Burgh is a kind, flamboyant artist type. Not a smart ass, more a “fabulous darling yes more paint!!” kind of guy and I’m fond of him. Marlon had the distinction of being a jumbo who is my enemy. Also, Clay has nothing to do with them.

@penguinkiwi​ For the gym leaders adding onto what Geeneelee said; Brycen’s actually a pretty quiet dude in person though he is an actor so it would mostly depend on when the twins interacted with him ( on set vs off set ). As stated, Clay’s got nothing to do with the railway system, he’s actually a miner but theres probably common interest in tunnels and ground types (ie: Excadrill).

I honestly don’t know why the idea of the food boys being related didn’t occur to me - they’ve deffo got echoes of the eevee brothers from back in the day, just not as antagonistic.  Brycen’s super dynamic posing and sprites totally threw me; (plus that pic of him with the beartic honestly just made me laugh) The idea that he goes all in with his acting but is actually quite retiring in person is adorable.

Clay was definitely the owner of something; that cowboy hat is too conspicuous otherwise, but it was a swing and a miss on my part.

@quietlywatchingwritingreading​ asked: your takes: Burrggh: he's the bug trainer guy, and emmet and ingo both actually raise a lot of bugs. (emmet often gets tied with Joltik). he's also the painter, so yeah there could be some smugness. (His first gym was 'What if it was a beehive honeycomb filled with clowns'. His second gym was 'what if paint and giant spider eggs'.)

So you're not wrong but there's probably potential for Weird Bug Friend-rivals.

Clay has no ownership of the railroad but he is a gym leader so he might be in charge of public transit or some degree. (he's a fairly 'reasonable bootstraps leader' type character, and has a excadrill as his star. so he and ingo probably discuss their moles)

I think it goes hand in hand with the Satoshi Tajiri’s own passion for collecting bugs that so many of the bug type trainers are so enthusiastic about their bug friends. (looking at all those Bug catchers tryna check me with a caterpie) 

Like with Brycen, I think Burgh’s screenshots didn’t do him any justice - after all there’s a fine line between being serving theatrical and smug. But I should’ve known better; those trousers do scream flamboyant art teacher.

quietlywatchingwritingreading To be fair, there is also a implication that the gym leaders own the towns they're in. Drayden at least is canonically also the mayor, but he's the only town we know of with a mayor. So they all might technically have control over the Public Transportation Budget.

The idea that all the gym leaders have a vested interest in the railway is sending me. Settling pay disputes with pokémon battles. GOD if I could just throw a raticate at management instead of filing a grievance. Pikachu at the picket line WHY IS THIS SO FUNNY??

I’m pretty blown away that it wasn’t just a complete whiff, especially Skyla - I was almost joking about the planes, but the more I thought about it the more I liked the idea of train/plane spotter solidarity.

I’ve pretty much got the image that the Submas bros just sort of sweep in and project their enthusiasms until they’ve collected a little band of equally passionate people who can meet their energy halfway regardless of the topics.

It’s a pretty interesting idea to think that the twins could probably easily be gym leaders in their own right; but rather they’ve waived that in order to follow their true passion of the Battle subway. Makes sense then that they might have had a hand in raising some of the current leaders given how stringent their challenge is.

Would An Alolan Rattata Be A Good Pet?

While perhaps not as good a fit for some as a more garden-variety rattata, the Alola Region’s unique variant of the pokémon would make a good pet! If you’re looking for a dark-type pokémon with a better ease of care, you’re probably looking in the right place.

This regional variant of rattata is a tiny bit heavier than a standard rattata, but they are virtually the same size. An Alolan rattata, once you earn its trust, would be a friendly and loyal pet. In the wild, this variant is very social, living in co-operative groups with other rattatas, serving a raticate “boss” (Moon). These wild rattatas seek out food to present to their boss: its possible that, once it becomes comfortable living with you, your rattata may see you in that role and bring you food offerings.

Keeping an Alolan rattata confined can be a little tricky. They’re said to be experts in gnawing their way into people’s homes to steal food (Sun). With their impressive incisors, Alolan rattatas can chew through solid wood with ease, and their keen sense of smell makes locating food a breeze (Sun, Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee). Keeping an Alolan rattata, you would need to find a way to store your food in a place that they can’t easily gnaw their way into. Simultaneously, you’ll want to make sure they have easy assess to food whenever they need it to keep them from escaping to steal food from your neighbors! Speaking of food: this variant of rattata is much pickier, requiring food to be up to their standard of freshness. Luckily, if you take them with you when buying their food, they will delight in helping you pick out the freshest food for the both of you (Ultra Sun).

Alolan rattatas aren’t exceptionally dangerous, relying on the biting power of their sharp, but small, fangs. It is probable that handling an Alolan rattata without getting hurt wouldn’t be too difficult. That is, unless they know Super Fang. As has been discussed again and again in this project: this move is a big issue as it immediately reduces the target’s HP by half. Caring for a rattata, despite their size and temperament, is never without risk.

Overall, caring for an Alolan rattata is likely going to be a little more difficult than many rodent-like Pokémon, but far from impossible or un-recommendable.

Hal is either a psychic or rock type trainer because of the monolith and because of psychic's association with aliens. His ace pokemon would be Lunatone and Solrock.

Also on his team: Unown, Espeon, Elgyem

AM is a poison type trainer, maybe also with some dark types. I think his ace is Eternatus because it's huge, legendary, and terrifying (like him)!

Also on his team: Muk, Absol, Spiritomb

Auto is electric/steel. His ace is Magnezone. He also has a Dhelmise but only because it kinda looks like him...

Also on his team: Electivire, Rotom, Klink

WOPR doesn't specialize in a specific type but he has lots of military/weapon looking pokemon. His ace is Victini because he's just a little guy who always wins.

Also on his team: Octillery, Clawitzer, Dragapult

Wheatley is a normal type trainer. His ace is Bidoof. :P

It starts, unhelpfully, mostly dark and somewhat blurry as the lenses struggle to focus. From the way the view jiggles around and the breathing audible from somewhere very close, this was filmed by Shardy himself; no rotoms were involved. Does he even have a rotomphone?

After a second or two, the scene resolves itself into something recognisable. It's the same place as the photographs of the first confrontation with the Rattata; a dingy behind-the-scenes concrete pen of an area, with a couple of large industrial dumpsters squatting in the shadows. From the looks of it, Shardy is situated behind what might be another dumpster, or something else equally large. Just about visible, sitting next to a dumpster who's lid is visibly mauled even in the low light, is the cage-trap. It's propped open, something carefully situated inside it as bait- probably peanut butter, unless he's come up with something better in the meantime.

"Now we wait," Shardy mumbles from behind the phone. And wait he does. Nothing happens for a good ten minutes, plenty of time for the video, and the stakeout, to become very boring. Increasing amounts of sighs, uncomfortable noises, and irritated little clicks and grumbles become audible.

And then a quiet intake of breath, as something very close makes a noise.

Movement helps a more defined shadow grows out of the darkness, something relatively small and four-legged with big round ears and a long tail. It slowly steps out towards the bins, then freezes as a motion-detecting light snaps on, flooding the area with brightness. There's a heartbeat of stillness, but the Pokemon is clearly used to this; after a quick check of the surroundings, it approaches its target without any obvious fear.

The trap is noted immediately as unusual, and some time is spent carefully inspecting it. After the third or so time the 'mon has approached the entrance, then changed its mind and backed away, a faint, yet deeply impatient, groan of "C'moooooon" escapes Shardy. The Pokemon twitches its ears, glancing around, and he swallows the sound with a frustrated little hiccup.

The Rattata contemplates the trap.

It's a big 'mon, by Rattata standards. It looks a bit like someone has taken a Makuhita and somehow changed it into a rat- its haunches and belly are thick and round and shiny, where they aren't crisscrossed with old scars. It's missing several chunks out of its ears, and there's the beginning of white fur around its muzzle; this is an old Rattata, smart enough and powerful enough to make one hell of a living for itself.

And its teeth are huge. Both sets of incisors protrude proudly from its jaws, a healthy shade of yellow, undamaged, a mighty set of chompers that should really be gracing the whiskered face of a Raticate. This 'mon could have evolved a long time ago, but clearly never considered it worth its while.

It looks on the verge of deciding the trap isn't worth its while either. It scratches at an ear, looks towards the exit. Shardy makes the softest little whining noise.

Then, almost casually, it turns and shoulders its way into the trap's waiting embrace.

'Shoulders' is definitely the right verb for what it's doing. The trap is designed for 'mons of average Rattata size, and this is no average Rattata. It squeezes its front end in easily enough, reaching for the bait, but a problem arises when it tries to fit its back end in.

"Oh Heroes," Shardy breathes. "Fucking rat's got too much cake."

The trap bounces and rattles as the Rattata works its way far enough inside to grab its prize. The mechanism that works the door should have sprung by now, but unfortunately there is too much Rattata ass in the way. There's a strained clicking sound, and the Pokemon makes a slightly annoyed squeaking noise as the flap attempts to close on it, but nothing is ultimately achieved.

The Rattata wiggles a bit. Then, apparently perfectly comfortable, it settles down to eat.

"I can't believe this," Shardy whispers, then, louder, "Hey! Fucking Rattata! Get out of here if you're not going to get caught!"

He stands up, the video blurring as he moves, and steps out into the open. The Pokemon, caught, stops licking at what is now more clearly visible as, yes, a jar of peanut butter.

For a moment, there's silence.

The Rattata is the first to break it. There's a sudden burst of clattering as it tries to back out of the trap, but its back end is jammed in the entrance. Without hesitation it flips itself up to stand on its back legs, little front paws gripping the mesh, and stares at Shardy with disconcertingly intelligent eyes.

Shardy stares back, breathing raspy and loud in the phone's mic.

Without breaking eye contact, the Rattata opens its mouth and Bites at the metal.

The trap (guaranteed to stand up to all kinds of Biting moves!) puts up something of a resistance, or at least it doesn't immediately crumple. But the Rattata Bites again, and the thinner wire snaps, and a third Bite destroys the rest.

Then the Pokemon flexes its shoulders and pushes its paws against the sides of the cage, and with a bit of effort and some grunting and wriggling, forces enough of a gap that it can climb out.

The mangled trap falls aside. The Rattata looks up at Shardy again.

Then it turns and scampers away into the darkness of the backstreets.

The last thing on the recording is a bewildered "What the fuck?"
