A fic-aversary.

Four years ago today, I posted my first work of fan fiction ever. I was still relatively new to reading fanfic at that point. I was excited and nervous to contribute to the community that had floored me with it's quality of writing. Hitting that post button was scary. The response made me cry. My story was met with the sweetest, kindest, most supportive comments. I'm forever grateful!

Flower

David plucks the petals from the dozen long-stemmed roses Sebastien had delivered.

He loves me. He loves me not.                                    

Petals litter the floor, and tears streak David’s cheeks. Not even halfway through dismembering the beautifully boxed apology flowers, he knows the truth.

Still, he plucks. He wants to be wrong.

David picks each petal from the floor then moves to the bed. He examines the delicate flowerheads there. Bruised and torn. Ground into Egyptian cotton. He plucks the survivors from the sheets to turn into potpourri.

Their bedroom overlooks Patrick’s well-tended garden. Roses in full bloom.

He loves me.

I was tagged by @chelle-68 and @likerealpeopledo-on-ao3 Thank you! Happy to be able to participate without giving spoilers for my current fic! So this is my last five fics, first line and last line, no context!

I really haven't been writing as much this year considering 5 fics ago was y Christmas fic! (stupid work)

Christmas Drinks

Patrick leant on the counter and put his head into his hands, staring out at the snow coming down.

Then they turned to face their family, together.

2. Necessary Approvals

“So, you invited him?” Stevie asked, cocking an eyebrow in his direction.

“David, you need to keep this one. I like him.”

3. Butterflies

It had been three days since Patrick had kissed David.

Stupid butterflies. 

4. The Seven

Lust- The first time David saw him, David wanted him.

Nothing before this moment had been as important as the chance he was about to take.

“So,” Ronnie pondered, regarding the chess board warily.

She planned on protecting it.

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I usually do! If someone leaves me a comment on every chapter I’ll answer the more in depth ones over the one emoji ones but yes, I love getting comments so I will usually always reply!

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I don’t think I have any tbh. I like angst but only when there’s resolution and a happy ending so I don’t think I have any with an angsty ending.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Basically all of them 😆

7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I have written crossovers!

Craziest one would have to be the Big Brother/Schitts Creek one that me and @mariss-ugh did! We worked soooooo hard on that one and it took months to complete but it was so worth it, I had a blast working on it with my bestie.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I’ve gotten criticism on my fics likes typos and stuff like that even though I was a new writer… or unasked for “constructive criticism”

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Love writing smut

What kind? Hmm… oral, penetration, hand stuff, edging, light bdsm, stuff like that. Depends on who I’m writing for!

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yup! I’ve had a few of my Gallavich ones be translated

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes!

I’ve co-written with @sleepyfaceandsnark for a Shameless/She’s the man crossover fic

And with @mariss-ugh for the Big Brother/Schitts Creek crossover & we are still working on our Football AU multi series Gallavich fic

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I have so many right now but my all-time has to be Ian/Mickey from Shameless US

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I only have one WIP right now but I’m determined that me and Marissa will finish it! Lol

Probably smut 😅

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Probably grammar like making sure I’m punctuating in the right places

I don’t tend to use other languages in my fics

Right now I don’t have any ships that I wanna write for that I haven’t. That might change we’ll see

I had a blast writing the Big Brother/Schitts Creek crossover fic. But I’m also loving dipping my toes into writing for Buck/Eddie (9-1-1) and I always love writing for Gallavich (Shameless US)

My fave Gallavich fic I wrote is probably The Good Life or We’ve come a long way from where we began (linked above).

Fave for David/Patrick (Schitts Creek) apart from the Big Brother one would probably be Lessons in Love

And fave I’ve written for Buddie (9-1-1) so far would be Good Christian Boy

I am dreadfully behind on my reading, but I just finished the devil wears midrange denim by @apothecarose and it was absolutely delightful!!

Patrick is an incredibly charming devil, who honestly isn't very devilish at all, and you can't help but love this snarky version of him. Plus, David selling his soul for a permanent migraine cure (among other perks) is so relateable.

Patrick is swinging a baseball bat above his head and moving his hips like he’s hula’ing an invisible hoop. It’s ridiculous, yet David can’t tear his eyes away.

“What do you think?” Patricks asks when he’s done. “I really wanna rub my next homer in Ronnie’s face.”

“I think your slam dunk—”

“Home run.”

“—dance is very cute.”

“Your face says otherwise.”

“Okay, fine! Maybe we can workshop a few ideas. Tighten up the choreo. Add some polish.” David’s hands gesture excitedly. “Start from the top and I’ll take some notes.”

Patrick grins. “Thank you, David.”

“I’ll count you in.”

Is your fic actually about conversion therapy? 😢😟

None of the people in the fic go through conversion therapy. There is a character in the past who has gone through it and finding out about it and the repercussions of it, changes people in the fic.

There is discussion of the repercussions (tw: past suicide). But the idea in my head was that David helping Patrick to discover himself was like a conversion therapy of its own. A conversation away from the self hating and dangerous ideals of the church.

So no. It isn't about conversation therapy, but it does discuss the practice- never in a positive way.

I hope this helps. It's not always an easy fic, but I don't think it's that dark? It's got positive outcomes for everyone we love.

They land together in a heap, with Patrick pinned beneath him. David has both legs hitched around Patrick’s waist and he’s leaning so far forward that their noses are touching. Patrick has the wind knocked out of him because a full-grown man has just jumped on top of him, so that explains why he’s breathing as heavily as he is. David, on the other hand, has no excuse. The coconut and the knife lay nearby, a still life gone terribly wrong.

“I actually didn’t want you to hurt it,” David says, rolling off of Patrick’s lap and smoothing at his sweater as if his reaction was perfectly reasonable. My name is David Rose; you touched my coconut; prepare to die. “It’s been with me since the beginning.”

Patrick watches him carefully, the way you watch someone who has just shaken their fist at the sky, or yelled at a passing cloud, chest still heaving. There’s dirt by his eye and David thinks he might have accidentally scratched a mark across Patrick’s chest. Patrick shouldn’t leave so many buttons undone, though. That’s on him. “Okay,” he responds, slowly.

“I didn’t realize how important it was to me, until…”

“Hey no, I get it,” Patrick says, holding up both hands as if to prove he’s no longer armed. “We all need an emotional support coconut sometimes.”
