because the usual idiots (@spacelazarwolf and @magnetothemagnificent) have decided to be chauvinists, as is their wont, i'm gonna debunk these tired claims.
no, neither chicago dyke march nor dc dyke march kicked out anyone or banned any symbols on the basis of judaism. the three jewish women kicked out from the chicago march were LITERALLY zionist propagandists (one of them works for an org whose sole purpose is pinkwashing israel!).
the "jewish pride flag" banned from dc dyke march is literally just the rainbow flag with a blue star of david in the center. i mention that it is blue because the star of david on the israeli flag is blue, and said star is also clearly meant to be in the same spot as the israeli flag. there were myriad different positions or symbols to choose from, such as a necklace with a star of david, the choice to wave a flag that mirrors the israeli flag was absolutely intentional.
i also want to point out that the two men here are intentionally choosing to paint two organizations that prominently feature lesbians of color, organizations with a strong focus on combating imperialism, as the face of LGBT antisemitism. you can draw your own conclusions as to why this choice was made.
sources for my statements can be found here and here.

as nice as slur reclamation is i really don't think you should be saying slur you can't actively reclaim. it comes off more as using them as slurs than reclaiming them.
hey anon what's your thoughts on this photo from the go girls go washington dc dyke march in 1993

Ah, I see the people who don’t know that every city’s Dyke March are in no way connected (in the same way the organizers of other pride events have no contact. For example SF Pride’s organizers have no contact with Toronto Pride’s etc) and have absolutely nothing to do with each other are out in full force.
An official NYC Dyke March tiktok video that I am featured in (filmed by another Jewish dyke on the planning committee) is now covered in comments from people who are unaware that the Chicago and DC Dyke marches have no connection to the NYC Dyke March whatsoever in any way at all claiming everyone in the video must be an antisemite and so forth.
What fun!

hi cam. i’m 19. i want to go to the dc dyke march. the thing is that my mom will only let me go if she comes with me “for safety”.
so im unsure if i want to go if her coming is a necessary part. bc it’s literally the dyke march, and this year the theme is pro abortion, and she is a conservative republican trump voter. i don’t think she knows what she’s getting into, but also i don’t want to tell her what she’s getting into because then that reduces my chances of being able to go at all.
i guess i’m just really frustrated that she won’t let me go. i’m literally a legal adult. i understand her concern for my safety, but it’s all just frustrating.

The meeting went well! She asked about me, told me about conversion process, and then gave me a book and a new practice. I'm going to try not using social media on shabbat and see how that feels.
I asked her for any jewish butch lesbian stuff she might know of. She wasn't sure, but is going to send me a leather haggadah! And put me in touch with a Rabbi!
I also asked her about dc dyke march's theme of dykes against genocide and their history of anti semitism. She said ask other people in your community as well as potentially considering organizing some Jewish lesbian thing on that day.
Overall good, nervous. Most of her comments were pretty basic, but I'm excited for the process going forward!!

im still pissed we let zionist slander the DC dyke march for correctly banning the israeli flag. they banned the American flag too but the cry bullies dont mention that part. the organizers only mistake was even entertaining these assholes and not stating bluntly that genocidal hate symbols should banned and that the israeli flag is one of them. if youre mad about a religious symbol being synonymous with genocide the only group to be mad at is ISRAEL FOR DOING THE GENOCIDE.

i haven't seen a post about the dc dyke march that doesn't have uncomfortable pro-israel vibes, so i haven't reblogged any, but i just want to say that i read the quote from the actual march organizers to a jewish participant, and for them to say they welcome and encourage "the jewish star" but that a star of david in the center of a jewish flag is considered pro-israel.....like....
listen i get that technically a striped pride flag w a magen david in the center will on some level resemble the israeli flag, but that's bc the israeli flag is literally a star with two horizontal stripes on the top and bottom.
but putting the magen david in the middle of a gay flag is literally the most simplistic way to symbolize jewish lgbt identity, and for non-jewish non-palestinians to decide that this very basic expression of pride is automatically pro-israel and therefore harmful and prohibited is fucked up, ESPECIALLY because this whole issue was already hashed out in the chicago dyke march a couple years back
i have an issue with the people who DO want the rainbow magen david flag to represent israel, and with the people who have a problem with the marches being explicitly pro-palestine, BUT there are plenty of jews (like myself) who want to celebrate both our judaism and our lgbt-ness completely separate from (and in direct opposition to) israel, and the organizers have very clearly sent a message that they don't care about us.
i think that them taking a stance on the issue is fantastic and that they should continue doing it, BUT if they're going to then they need to use their goddamn brains for a second bc saying "magen david = israel" is not only antisemitic, but literally promoting zionist ideology in the name of "protecting palestinians" , and all it does is hurt BOTH groups as a result
the star of david is a jewish symbol. it has been a jewish symbol since long before the establishment of the state of israel, and will continue to be a jewish symbol when (b"h) that state is dismantled.
denying jewish iconography--especially something as common and oft-used as the magen david--on the grounds of it "looking like israeli pride" is a very easy way to create a space absent of jewish iconography at all, and therefore jews. it's either a dangerous mistake made by well-meaning-but-ignorant march organizers, or it's a perfect signal to lgbt jews that we're not welcome in those politicized spaces unless we're willing to be discreet about our jewishness.
(this is ok for anyone to rb, but if you're not palestinian and are a non-jew, a cishet, and/or a zionist i have 0 interest in arguing w you)

LGBTQ, Jewish and feminist organizations called Wednesday night on the DC Dyke March to apologize for their ban on the Jewish Star of David and Israeli flags.   While there was originally no official announcement, after participants inquired, they discovered that they would not be able to bring Israeli flags or related national symbols to the march. Organizers later wrote on Facebook that, "participants [may] not bring pro-Israel paraphernalia." While there was originally no official announcement, participants who inquired discovered that they would not be able to bring Israeli flags or related national symbols to the march.
"We ask the organizers to hold true to their mission of inclusivity as stated on their website: 'The DC Dyke March exists to celebrate and center all Dykes," a statement by Zioness Movement, A Wider Bridge, Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington and AJ Campbell - former Director of The Nice Jewish Girls and founder of The Jacobs Tent Project - said in response to the DC Dyke March's decision. "Together we call on the DC Dyke March to apologize to the community and reverse course by allowing Dykes wishing to carry all Jewish and Israeli symbols to march as their full, authentic selves." This controversy is not new. Two years ago, a similar incident occurred when the Chicago Dyke March's organizers kicked out several people for carrying Jewish Pride flags.
However, the following year, Palestinian flags were seen waving at the Chicago march. Its been 12 years since the last Dyke march in DC, according to The Washington Post. The organizers said they brought the march back to life because it was badly needed, as LGBTQ services and legal protections were being erased, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Oh wonderful; they’re franchising.
