Seeing some stuff popping up around here and I know a lot of you are being sarcastic and joking around but please make sure that no one’s arguments/jokes hinge on the invalidation of other queer identities. The sensitization of queer identity in media has nothing to do with the existence of aromantic and/or asexual people. It is a product of our society. This is a complex topic which is why it’s been labeled a debate. However, at its core, what we are discussing is how our heteronormative patriarchal society has affected and continues to affect queer people. Personally I’ve been taking this time to look more into purity culture and how it has affect queer people. What we are discussing is more than whether or not two queer characters should “make out sloppy��. We are also looking at how queer people are perceived within our society and why we are represented this way. Not everyone needs to go in depth into these concepts but it’s important to be aware of them.
