"You know," began Anne, marking the book she was reading with dog ears. "You should have spent your precious time before Queens under the beautiful Avonlea trees instead of in this stuffy room with me. At least go to the pond with the kids. Summer days are too short and beautiful to enjoy inside."
Delphine looked up from her father's knitting pattern she had copied. "I do not mind." She shrugged. "At home, I don't have much to talk to anyway. Dad and Grandma take care of the harvest. Alice is busy sewing doilies in preparation for her wedding. Do people really need two dozen doilies to start a household? We've had less than that, and it's all just fine."
Anne couldn't help but laugh.
(The summer following Shirley Blythe's difficult, perilous birth was the summer before Delphine left for Queens. In Ingleside's main bedroom, Delphine and her honorary aunt talked about the family they had found and made.)

Christian Lacroix: Costumier
EXHIBITING FASHION
Start Date: 03 JUNE 2007
End Date: 11 NOVEMBER 2007
Venue: CENTRE NATIONAL DU COSTUME DE SCENE
Location: MOULINS, FRANCE
Curator: CHRISTIAN LACROIX AND DELPHINE PINASA
Designer: MICHEL ALBERTINI
Couture
Designer Histories
How does a great couturier dress the stage? How does a magician of colours, a lover of shimmering fabrics, a sculptor of shapes and volumes, an alchemist of laces, braids, ruches and other frivolities transform artists by giving their dress to the characters of choreographic works, lyrical and theatrical performances performed on the biggest national and international stages?
For more than twenty years, even before the creation of his fashion house, Christian Lacroix has been working with constant happiness behind the scenes of theatre workshops, combining the science of haute couture technique and artisanal know-how, tips and tricks of the stage, respect for the works and personal sensitivity.
Christian Lacroix likes to evoke his first steps in sewing, while from his early years, returning from the theatre, he reinterpreted the costumes he had just seen on the set.
As an echo to this initial vocation, the Center national du costume de scène is organizing the first major event around the work of Christian Lacroix for the show.
This exhibition presents more than 200 costumes and models of costumes created by Christian Lacroix and performed in specialized sewing workshops in the performing arts. A panorama of more than twenty-five ballet, theatre and opera productions, among which:
For the ballet: “Gaité parisienne”, choreography by Mikhaïl Barysnikov for the American Ballet Theatre in New York; “Les Anges ternis”, choreography by Karole Armitage; “Shéhérazade”, choreography by Blanca Li for the Opéra national de Paris; “Cinderella” at the Vienna Opera; “La Valse des bonbons”, for Austrian television.
For the theatre: “Chantecler” , directed by Jean-Luc Tardieu for the Maison de la Culture in Nantes; “Otello et Phèdre”, two productions by Anne Delbée for the Théâtre 14 and the Comédie-Française in Paris; “Les Caprices de Marianne”, directed by Lambert Wilson at the Bouffes du Nord.
For the opera: “Carmen” , directed by Antoine Bourseiller at the Arènes de Nîmes; “Cosi fan tutte”, “Il Re pastore”, “Eliogabalo”, three operas directed by Vincent Boussard for the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels.

omg re your tags on the fanfic post dyou have any awae fanfic recommendations 💛💛
YES they are below the cut!!
Modern AU:
wonderstruck by bruadarxch. 14,895 words.
"Delphine Lacroix raves about Miss Shirley and her crazy lessons. Her uncle Gilbert thinks his niece surely has an overactive imagination, but one day he has to pick her up from school and a certain redhead covered in paint from head to toe crashes into him. OR: Gilbert Blythe puts his foot in it when he meets Anne in every universe. Luckily for him, she didn't have any heavy objects around in this one." (Anne is Delphine's teacher. Gilbert messes up every interaction he has with her.)
but when he walks in i am loved - i am loved by nosecoffee. 24,704 words.
"'Marry me.' Anne drops a plate. She barely reacts to that - Marilla can berate her later, for now Anne has a very good reason to have broken her expensive china. She whirls on him.
Gilbert’s not kneeling or anything. He's just standing there, in her kitchen doorway, with a painfully earnest look on his face. 'Are you kidding?' She says, laughing nervously.
He shakes his head." (The only fake marriage AU you'll ever need.)
we were wild and fluorescent (come home to my heart) by cheschi. 6,013 words.
"To: Gilbert Blythe ([email protected]) From: Anne Shirley Cuthbert ([email protected])
Dear Gilbert,
If you're wondering why I'm emailing you, it has to do with the ring you left at the party at Charlie’s place last weekend before you left. I emptied my coat yesterday and it rolled out along with Diana’s mascara. Imagine my surprise when I found it there until Charlie told me that it was yours.
I never pegged you for the ring type but it's here nonetheless. Hopefully you weren't worrying about its whereabouts for too long. Maybe it'll serve as a reminder of home in some strange way, knowing that there's gold waiting for you in Avonlea.
Sincerely, Anne Shirley Cuthbert
(or, Gilbert goes on exchange and he and Anne rediscover the value of email)" (A fantastic epistolary tale, set while Anne and Gilbert are in college and recently estranged.)
In-Universe:
Noticed by nearly_there. 11,129 words.
"In which Anne Shirley-Cuthbert is the unwilling and unwitting recipient of: 1) a notice, and 2) feelings." (A lovely callback to the notice board. Anne's generally oblivious and Gilbert is generally hopeless.)
Into the Sun by goldinavonlea. 5,014 words.
"Summer had arrived in Avonlea. In all truth, summer had arrived in Avonlea several weeks earlier, but the inclement internal weather of Anne’s life of late had rendered the view rather cloudy from her window for a while there, and so perhaps it was better to say that summer had arrived—finally—in Anne. And what a summer it was. Or, Anne and Gilbert spend 5000 words ignoring all rules of Victorian propriety in favour of becoming the human embodiments of warm syrup." (Anne and Gilbert take full advantage of the benefits of courtship. One of the makeout scenes of all time.)
one equal temper of heroic hearts by arbitrarily. 6,470 words.
"Anne is fifteen, which means she will be sixteen soon, which means she is practically grown. She is perfectly capable of handling Gilbert Blythe as a boarder at Green Gables, despite anything Marilla might have to say to the contrary." (Particularly sweet tale about Gilbert and Anne as roommates.)
A world where it's always June by ahumanlighthouse. 31,204 words.
"Gilbert comes home." (One of my all-time favorite works. Set as an alternate timeline to Gilbert's return to the island.)
youth's a stuff will not endure by bertiesbeebox. 4,289 words.
"Horrified to the event that publicized his affections for the girl that equalled the sun, Gilbert Blythe desperately tries to forget such catastrophe, yet a certain group of people appeared to have devised a scheme that would allow him to confront his feelings for Anne Shirley-Cuthbert. or In which narrates the three times Gilbert tries to avoid his undisclosed epistolary exchange with the one and only Anne Shirley-Cuthbert (and the one time he doesn’t have to)." (A short option from one of my favorite awae authors. Check out their longer fic if you liked this one.)
i've been waiting my whole life to know i wanted you. 17,195 words.
"'Of course, I remember it,' she spits out. 'You humiliated me. Mr. Philips tortured me.' 'Yes,' he says, apology clear in his voice. 'I just wanted to say that your hair has never been the colour of carrots.' There’s a silence, and he can’t help it when he leans forwards, looping one of her locks of hair around his finger. It’s soft, and such a vivid red that he wonders how he ever could’ve been so foolish to call her carrots; it’s the colour of everything he’s ever loved in the world, reminds him of the colour his dad’s nose would go in the winter and the setting sun. Anne’s simply staring up at him with wide, shocked eyes and he can’t say those things to her, can’t tell her such things. So, he simply finishes with, 'It’s pretty.' Gilbert Blythe only returns to Avonlea when he is 23, unexpecting of anything except a general feeling of returning home. Falling back in love with a girl he left behind seven years ago was definitely not in the cards." (A wonderful AU, extremely picturesque.)
Not specifically AWAE-universe, but still Anne:
Doth Walk in Fear and Dread by MrsVonTrapp. 4,282 words. Original Anne of Green Gables universe.
"When Gilbert is 'rendered unconscious' on All Hallows Eve, events take a startling and unexpected turn.
What is dream and what is nightmare? What is real and what is not? And why does everyone believe he is Victor Frankenstein?!" (One of my favorite transformative works! Belongs within the original Anne of Green Gables universe and explores some fever dream, psychological horror undertones.)
here, now by badava. 2,941 words. Green Gables Fables universe.
"and sometimes she wonders if there was a past life where something was keeping them from being together, but it’s hard to worry about any of that when she knows that they are now. // shameless reincarnation au." (Heartstopping reincarnation AU with Green Gables Fables-universe Anne and Gilbert.)
my shameless plug:
wasteland, baby! 22,037 words.
"In which Gilbert is hopelessly in love with Anne in fourteen songs and fourteen memories. Wasteland, Baby! and its lyrics belong to Hozier."
my modern AU series, loosely in sequential order, although they all stand alone
you're so good to be a witness to my sounds. 2,385 words.
"The first winter she had known him – really known him – was the winter he’d buried his last living relative, the winter he’d lived at her house for a month, the winter he’d lost all motivation, the winter he’d slept in her bed more frequently than she, the winter he’d needed to take off in order to recover.
Gilbert struggles with his head. Anne's there, because she's the force that keeps him from collapsing in on himself like a dying star."
o churl. 6,370 words.
"'What, are you Juliet?' Anne laughs. He’s better than Charlie, at least, but also very close to her face. Their noses are a breath’s width apart and he’s leaning down the five inches that it takes to be at her height. He’s so close she can see the little smatterings of freckles right underneath his unfairly dark eyelashes. His curls brush against her forehead. The effect is overwhelming.
'Yes, now shut up,' he says.
Or: Anne and Gilbert find they have a penchant for quoting Shakespeare."
all the pretty girls on a saturday night. 3,152 words.
"aw c'mon, what's a boy to do when all the pretty girls can't measure to you? Cambridge girls don't hold a candle to the redheaded girl that can't leave Gilbert's dreams."
bite back. 2,222 words.
"'Carrots,' he hisses, tugging at one of her red braids. 'Hey. Carrots!' Anne gets a hit in and a maybe-concussed Gilbert can't stop staring at all those freckles."

"In Memory of Mary Hanford Lacroix: Mary Lacroix was born on a winter's day in 1865. As those who knew her well can attest, her presence was felt like an endless summer. Her smile could lighten a room where no candles were lit. Her laugh could warm a home with an empty hearth. Fierce yet kind, she could cut a man down with her sharpness of tongue, but would bandage the broken wing of a sparrow, such was her sense of justice. For she was as generous in spirit, as she was with her cinnamon-sugar glaze, constantly rebutting the lack of sweetness in this world. Her life was not short on challenges. And still, she held no grudges, believing instead that grace is perennial, like the green, green grass. Whatever Mary did, she did fully, unwaveringly, with open arms. Whether it be raising her beloved son Elijah, or welcoming her precious daughter, Delphine, into this world, she lived life with both her hands. And when she left this world on April 6, 1899, her hands were held tightly by Sebastian, the love of her life. She was laid to rest in the place she called home. Avonlea

LE MONT SAINT-MICHEL - CHERRUEIX - SAINT MALO - SABLES D`OR LES PINS_Tag 5

Can we talk about how we were robbed of getting a scene where Gilbert is holding Delphine and just spilling his guts about how he feels about Anne? Like Gilbert with a baby combined with him gushing about Anne? Now that I think about it maybe it’s best we didn’t get to see it, it would’ve been to powerful and I probably would’ve died on the spot

"There's another baby—" Gilbert looked away, as if embarrassed, as if he didn't dare look at Anne. The sunlight falling from the window cast a shadow on his tired face, keening his jaw. Ruby would call him handsome and dreamy, like a prince in a storybook. Had Anne didn’t know better about grief and the scraps of the dead, she would agreed. Gilbert just looked like a boy from this angle, weary and grieving; all of human skin and bones that could break.
"There's another baby—" He repeated, hoarse. His forehead creased wearily, and he chewed the corner of his left lip. The lines of vulnerability on his face were clear, exposed, almost unbearable to look at. Anne was used to the steady voice of Gilbert, who was her rival in class; the light smile of Gilbert, who was her family and friend in some complicated way; a mischievous gleam in Gilbert’s eyes who had offered to slay a dragon on the first day they met.
But this, this withered and almost scattered-looking Gilbert, she wasn't used to, and her heart ached for him.
"—who will grow up with no mother in this house." He cooed the fussy Dellie for a bit, then added slowly. His voice, which had almost disappeared with the wind, sounded like an afterthought. "Just like me."
Anne looked at him, lost, and felt the sadness wash over her again like waves. She wanted to comfort Gilbert and conveyed some poetic lines about rising and waking up to a new, sunny day.
She didn't—there was nothing pretty or even elegiac about losing a mother.
Mary would know what to do or say, never tripping over consolation the wrong way like Anne had been before, but if Mary were here, they wouldn't have this conversation.
(Mary's death hit hard; Gilbert was left to pick up the fragments for Bash and Dellie. In the kitchen on a quiet Saturday afternoon, he talked to Anne about babies who only grew up with their fathers.)

May our darling Anne love this, almost as much as you
Tumblr media
Pairings: Gilbert Blythe + Anne Shirley
Summary: Gilbert accompanied Anne to Charlottetown as she went to Halifax to find out about her parents. Slight alternative if Anne never had time to change back into her regular dress.
Tumblr media
After Anne had found out the truth about her parents (they had died from a fever, weeks apart, when she was just 3 months old, and that her parents fled from Scotland - the home of the redheads).
She had to quickly catch the ferry back to Prince Edward Island, and with that running slightly late - it set everything back, as she quickly hurried to Aunt Josephine's.
"Why, Anne, my dear. You should have been back 20 minutes ago!" Aunt Jo exclaimed after Rollings opened the door to a slightly out of breath Anne.
"Aunt Jo! I'm so sorry, the ferry left the island late, and I don't have time to go exchange my clothes," Anne apologised, making Jo shake her head.
"Cole, fetch Anne's clothes down," Aunt Jo called, taking Anne's hands in hers. "There is nothing to be sorry for, dear. This is the way that the cards have fallen," Aunt Jo told her, as Cole came running down with the satchel that Anne left behind.
Cole reached over and faffed with one of Anne's curls which had come loose from when she was running. "Take the horse, you need to get her on the train, quickly," Aunt Jo said, making Anne and Cole nod and rush after Rollings - who was surprisingly quick for his age.
Tumblr media
Anne sat in front of Cole as they rushed to the train station as quickly as Lady Di (its name given by Anne, in honour of her bosom friend, Diana).
When they got there, Cole quickly jumped off and helped Anne down (as she struggled with her current state of dress).
They got onto the platform, Gilbert was already on the train, waiting for Anne.
Cole handed the bag over to the redhead. "It will not matter to Aunt Josephine when it comes back. But, you look gorgeous, dear Anne," Cole complimented her, making a flush of pink run up her cheeks. She had gotten very few compliments throughout her short life.
"Thank you, Cole," Anne smiled, reaching up and pressing a sweet kiss to his cheek. "Expect a letter in due time," she gave a small curtsey, making him laugh, and she hurried on the train.
Tumblr media
Despite spending some of the afternoon in Winifried's company, he sat by the window, fiddling with a purple flower.
This is when he saw Anne rushing onto the platform, Cole McKenzie behind her, holding the small satchel she had this morning.
The dress she was wearing was gorgeous! The green dress fitted her perfectly - however, thinking about it, she could be wearing a corset that he'd heard dreaded things about.
He watched Cole hand over the satchel, and say something to Anne. This resulted in the young man getting a kiss on his cheek (near enough the same place she hit him with her slate when he first met her).
He lifted his fingers and run them over where the bump had been, it was probably obvious to anyone that he was completely smitten with Anne. She owned the key to his heart, there was no one else for him!
Looking down at the flower between his fingers, he didn't know who he was kidding, moving on from Anne? It was physically and mentally impossible! He would love her to his dying day. If she told him she loved him the day before he passes, he would be the happiest man on the face of the earth.
She quickly boarded the train, waving to Cole and taking her seat next to him.
Tumblr media
Anne could tell that Gilbert was staring at her out of the corner of her eye, probably wondering what in heaven on earth she was wearing.
"Don't say a word," she stated, waving at Cole as the train left Charlottetown Station, heading back to Avonlea. "We must go to yours, so I can change. Marilla will have my head if she sees me like this," Anne said, setting her bag on her lap (which made a surprising thud).
This made both Gilbert and Anne's faces scrunch up. A gentle hand in her bag and Anne pulled out a well-loved copy of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. When she opened the first page, written there, in handwriting similar to hers:
My Walter, One day, may our darling Anne love this tale, almost as much as you do. Forever yours, Your Bertha.
Anne ran her fingers over the handwriting, this was something that was handed between her mother and father - and it made her smile.
Anne gasped as she looked at the date her mother had written down. "Look at the date," Anne pointed, "It was written just weeks before I was born," It made her smile and held it to her heart.
This made Gilbert smile, it was nice that Anne had another piece added to her puzzle over who her parents were.
Tumblr media
Anne was grateful that Marilla, Matthew and Mrs Lynde weren't at the station. She breathed a sigh of relief and got off the train. They left the train station and saw the horse that Gilbert brought with him this morning still tied up - happily eating something from the trough.
Anne patted the horse's nose, as it nuzzled her happily. "Let's get going," Gilbert said, holding a hand out to Anne (she knew she would have to sit side-saddle - how a 'lady should sit'), and helped her up. He knew that she wouldn't need help, but it was the gentlemanly thing to do, that his father taught him to do.
He held onto the reigns, in a way he was keeping her 'safe' as well as stopping her from falling off Bessie. Gilbert clicked his tongue a couple of times. "Come on, Bess,"
Tumblr media
They arrived at the Blythe-Lacroix farm, Bash walking out with Delphine in his arms, gently rocking her and shushing her - she'd recently started teething.
Anne launched herself off the horse and landed on her feet perfectly (like she was a cat), as she turned round to smirk at Gilbert. "I'm no lady," she took her bag that was hanging from the side of Bessie and headed into the home.
"You," she pointed at Bash. "Never. Saw me dressed like this,"  she gave him a look, and he nodded. "Hello, Dellie," Anne cooed, running her finger along Delphine's cheek - making the baby squark happily.
She lifted one of Delphine's small fingers which had wrapped itself around one of hers tightly. Anne kissed it gently and gave Delphine a sweet smile.
"You can change in Mary's room," Bash told her, chocking up slightly at Mary won't be sleeping in her room anymore, and Gilbert sometimes sees Bash's room as his dad's room.
Anne smiles at Bash, reaching up and pressing a kiss to his cheek. She took her bag and went to change back into her usual clothes.
Bash gave Gilbert a look, and the young man waved him off. Taking Bessie back to the barn. "How am I going to tell Winifred? As much as I like her company, Anne owns my heart, ever since she smack me across the head with her slate," Gilbert laughed silently, rubbing Bessie's nose, as he started to feed her an apple. "Her parents are most likely going to kill me, but..." Gilbert trails off, before saying three words out loud for the first time. "I love Anne,"
A breeze surrounds Gilbert, as he looked out of the cut-out window of the barn to the sky. He smiled, taking it as silent approval from his father. 'You took your time, son,'
Tumblr media
Gilbert walked into his home, seeing Anne dressed in her usual brown dress and pinafore - even now, with her braids and usual clothes, she looks beautiful.
Delphine started crying again, and Bash followed one of the recipes that Anne had written out for Delphine. Gilbert started to walk over to his niece when Anne got there first. Reaching into the basket, and brought the baby to rest against her shoulder. Gently shushing her, rocking back and forth to soothe her.
Bash looked up from the vegetables he was cutting, smiling at the girl who would attend to Dellie's every cry. That is when he looked over at Gilbert and saw the look in his eyes. He'd heard his mother say once, 'When a boy is in love, you can see it in his eyes,'
He then looked over at Anne (after Gilbert picked up some of the garlic and started peeling it), and remember the other half of the saying he'd heard. 'When a girl is in love, you can see it in her smile,'.
