Warren G & Sissel - Prince Igor 1998
The Rapsody Overture: Hip Hop Meets Classic is a 1997 concept album of remixes consisting of hip hop and classical, which combined American rappers with European opera singers. "Prince Igor", a duet between American rapper Warren G and Norwegian soprano Sissel Kyrkjebø, was a massive #1 hit across Europe in 1998. Outside Europe, it peaked at number 41 in New Zealand. The song combined Warren G's lyrics from his song "Reality", and an aria from Alexander Borodin's opera Prince Igor.
Sissel was the voice for Ariel in the Norwegian and Swedish versions of the 1989 film The Little Mermaid, as well as the Danish singing voice. Listen to her here! She sang the vocals on the soundtrack for the 1997 film Titanic, which reached #1 on the Billboard charts and sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. She was also originally intended to sing "My Heart Will Go On" before it was handed over to Celine Dion.
"Prince Igor" was so close to a draw! 49,7% total yes votes vs 50,4% total no. :(

last book read + last stethoscope used, part 18
Tumblr media
The stethoscope: Littmann Classic II Se in purple. I'm not sure if they make these anymore.
The book: Ziwe's Black Friend. I could not wait for this to come out and it was everything I thought it would be and more. From the stories of her chow chow, Celine Dion, who's maybe not quite a guard dog but sweet as a Diane Warren-penned love ballad, to the amusing AF but eyeroll-inducing anecdote about the private screening of If Beale Street Could Talk at which NAACP members were made to sit in the back, this collection of essays is undeniably Ziwe. I was so disappointed when Showtime canceled her show but thrilled to find out this was going to be published. Not only is it both hilarious and insightful, it's a great companion to Britney's memoir, The Woman in Me, which was my next read. Like me, Ziwe grew up absolutely enthralled by the Princess of Pop.

Note
I have seen people portray Red when jealous as very angry and possessive and honestly I think he would act like “whatever idc” on the surface and then be more insecure on the inside, on an extreme he cries on the shower and eats pie with the water still on at 3am so no one will see him dbxjskks
Yeah I think there's a tendency to characterize Red as being really angry and badass and possessive over Duck for reasons I don't really understand tbh! I think it's because he's the tallest one, and he's developed a tendency to yell in the series 4 show. His personality really has changed from the youtube series to the TV show, he's a lot more involved and less monotone in his interactions with the others, but he's still a really awkward dude lmao.
He gets flustered really easily! The fax machine and the trash can in jobs yelling at him for 4.5 seconds made him nervous enough to fire Duck just to make them stop! He's SO awkward during the photoshoot with his family, it was really hard to watch his excitement die as the photographer scolded him. Like he really apologized for being happy, does that sound like an Alpha badass to you guys?and he's pretty unwilling to say anything to any teachers that are actively bothering him, like the twins or when the train ran over his foot. He doesn't really rock the boat, he'll either mumble sarcastically to himself or (in the case of warren) complain quietly to Duck about whoever he doesn't like.
Even during their bottle fight he isn't being the aggressor, he's mostly complaining about their situation (I TOLD YOU I DIDN'T WANT TO DO THIS ANYMORE) scolding Yellow for interfering (I'M DEALING WITH IT) or scolding Duck for his treatment of Yellow (DON'T YOU EVER- EVER TALK TO HIM LIKE THAT)
So yeah, he'd be the type to pretend things dont' bother him and then cry in the shower like Tobias from Arrested Development while listening to It's All Coming Back To Me Know by Celine Dion on repeat and eating ice cream- There's not a single 'bad-boy' bone in his body, idk why he gets the Christian Gray treatment from some fans lmao, maybe it's his tendency to wear suits

THE ACADEMY TO HONOR MICHAEL J. FOX, EUZHAN PALCY, DIANE WARREN AND PETER WEIR WITH OSCARS® AT GOVERNORS AWARDS IN NOVEMBER
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES, CA – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that its Board of Governors voted to present Honorary Awards to Euzhan Palcy, Diane Warren and Peter Weir, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Michael J. Fox.  The four Oscar® statuettes will be presented at the Academy’s 13th Governors Awards on Saturday, November 19, 2022, in Los Angeles.
“The Academy’s Board of Governors is honored to recognize four individuals who have made indelible contributions to cinema and the world at large,” said Academy President David Rubin.  “Michael J. Fox’s tireless advocacy of research on Parkinson’s disease alongside his boundless optimism exemplifies the impact of one person in changing the future for millions.  Euzhan Palcy is a pioneering filmmaker whose groundbreaking significance in international cinema is cemented in film history.  Diane Warren’s music and lyrics have magnified the emotional impact of countless motion pictures and inspired generations of musical artists.  Peter Weir is a director of consummate skill and artistry whose work reminds us of the power of film to reveal the full range of human experience.”
Fox gained fame playing Alex P. Keaton on the sitcom “Family Ties.”  His hit films include “Back to the Future,” “The Secret of My Success,” “Casualties of War,” “Doc Hollywood” and “The American President.”  He returned to television in his award-winning lead role on “Spin City,” followed by guest appearances in series including “Rescue Me,” “The Good Wife” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”  His many awards include five Emmys, four Golden Globes, one Grammy, two Screen Actors Guild awards, a People’s Choice award, and GQ Man of the Year.  In 2000, he launched the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which is now the leading Parkinson’s organization in the world.  He is the author of four New York Times bestselling books: Lucky Man, Always Looking Up, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future and No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality.  Fox is the subject of a documentary from Oscar-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, which is currently in production.

        Euzhan Palcy
Palcy is a writer, director and producer born in Martinique in the French West Indies. Her first feature film, “Sugar Cane Alley,” won the Silver Lion at the 1983 Venice Film Festival, a first for a Black director.  It went on to win a César Award for Best First Work, the first César won by a woman director and by a Black filmmaker.  She continued her journey with “A Dry White Season” (1989), a drama made at the height of apartheid, becoming the first Black woman to direct a film for a major Hollywood studio and guiding Marlon Brando to his last Oscar nomination. Her films also include the musical fairytale “Siméon.”  Palcy’s work has been an inspiration to filmmakers, contemporary artists and novelists.
Warren is one of the most prolific contemporary songwriters and has written original songs for more than 100 films.  She has earned 13 Oscar nominations in the Original Song category, starting in 1987 and within each of the past five decades, for songs including “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” “Because You Loved Me,” “How Do I Live,” “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing,” “Til It Happens To You” and “Stand Up for Something.”  She has collaborated with such prominent music artists as Beyoncé, Cher, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Gaga, John Legend, Reba McEntire and Carlos Santana.
A leading figure in the Australian New Wave film movement in the 1970s, Weir emerged as a visionary filmmaker with “Picnic at Hanging Rock” and “The Last Wave.”  He earned Oscar nominations for Directing for “Witness,” “Dead Poets Society,” “The Truman Show” and “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” for which he also received a Best Picture nomination, and earned a Writing nomination for “Green Card.”  His other notable films include “The Way Back,” “Fearless,” “The Mosquito Coast,” “The Year of Living Dangerously” and “Gallipoli.”
The Honorary Award, an Oscar statuette, is given “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy.”
The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, also an Oscar statuette, is given “to an individual in the motion picture arts and sciences whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry.”
The 13th Governors Awards is proudly supported by Rolex, the Exclusive Watch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

C'est la vie, It's literal translation is :This Is Life.
But French people use it more in a way when something bad or wrong happens in any front like academics, profession, relationship.. Any phase of life, they use it basically in an imperative tone to denote Life. That this is life which full of sorrows as well as happiness. So this is indeed an Irony. “C'est la vie.”
Here are a few quotes to get you going
Life imposes things on you that you can’t control, but you still have the choice of how you’re going to live through this." — Celine Dion
There are three things you can do with your life: You can waste it, you can spend it, or you can invest it. The best use of your life is to invest it in something that will last longer than your time on Earth." — Rick Warren
Life is a song - sing it. Life is a game - play it. Life is a challenge - meet it. Life is a dream - realize it. Life is a sacrifice - offer it. Life is love - enjoy. Sai Baba

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to The Fifteenth Amendment (1870), Akarova, John Astin, Warren Beatty, Joey Castillo, Tracy Chapman, Eric Clapton, Daisy Coleman, Robbie Coltrane, Miles Davis’s 1970 BITCHES BREW LP, Celine Dion, Graeme Edge, Francisco Goya, MC Hammer, the Jeopardy game show (1964), Norah Jones, Charles Lightroller, Lene Lovich, singer-songwriter Don Malliband, Hayashibara Megumi, Kacey Musgraves’s 2018 GOLDEN HOUR album, Walter Piston’s 1951 4th Symphony, the 1946 Arlen-Mercer musical “St. Louis Woman” w/Pearl Bailey & the Nicholas Brothers, Ximo Tebar, Jay Traynor (Jay & The Americans)—good to have met you, Vincent van Gogh, Randy VanWarmer, (the original) Sonny Boy Williamson, and the great American singer-songwriter Frankie Laine. Born of Italian parents, Laine was influenced by opera and blues, particularly Bessie Smith and Louis Armstrong—who Laine called “my idol.” Laine’s early career had many setbacks and let-downs and, after threatening to quit music at least six times. Then in 1946 he was “discovered” by Hoagy Carmichael, which led to Laine’s breakout hit “That’s My Desire” (now a jazz standard). Concurrently he discovered a niche singing in films.
He signed to Mercury Records, then switched to Columbia, and the hits (and royalty checks) rolled in. He was heralded as an innovator for his unique vocal technique and masculine tone. Like Bessie Smith, Laine’s voice projected and could fill a hall without a microphone. One critic described Laine as “a big lad with steel tonsils who belted out torch blues while stomping his size twelve feet...he owed nothing to Crosby or Sinatra...” In contrast to the smooth balladeer of the era, Laine would bend notes and sing around the chordal context of a note rather than to sing the note straight, and he stressed each rhythmic downbeat. Like Johnnie Ray, Laine was first cast as an R&B/jazz singer and is now regarded as a forerunner of rock & roll, influencing Elvis Presley and Ray Charles (who admitted to mimicking Laine), and Laine was later name-checked by The Beatles. Laine, however, was able to branch out into folk, gospel, pop and, famously, the Cowboy/Western theme songs imbedded in pop culture: “Gunfight at the OK Corral,” “Rawhide,” “3:10 to Yuma,” and many more. His Campbell Soup “Manhandler” commercial hasn’t been on the air for decades, but people are still singing it. In his long career he had more than 70 charted records, 21 gold records, and global sales of over 100 million records. He was still performing at age 93 when he passed away in 2007.
Laine’s 1949 cover of the folk-spiritual “That Lucky Old Sun” became his 5th gold record, perhaps because a lot of working people could relate to it. The lyrics of the song contrast the toil and hardship of the subject’s life with the obliviousness of the natural world. Yet he sees a silver lining and God's deliverance behind it all. Inspired by “Ol’ Man River,” “Lucky Old Sun” was written in 1949 by big band musician Beasley Smith and prolific Tin Pan Alley lyricist Haven Gillespie—who also wrote "You Go To My Head" (another favorite of mine). “Lucky Old Sun” gained presence with me after hearing Brian Wilson's 2007 concept album based on this song. In 2020 I added it to my set list for when I perform in assisted living homes. My arrangement blends the definitive Laine recording with the soul of Louis Armstrong's cover (in 1949 both artists released "competing versions"). Meanwhile, HB Frankie, and thank you for giving us years of amazing songs.
