VOTE JAKAPIL FOR DINOSAUR MARCH MADNESS
@a-dinosaur-a-day
No other contestant in the final four is such A Creature™️ the way that Jakapil is. Jakapil is simultaneously the ultimate being to exist from the perspective of a dinosaur-obsessed child and a fascinating, paradigm-shifting paleontological enigma. Literally the perfect dinosaur, what more could you want
Why vote for Jakapil?
the most likely scenario here is that this guy represents a hundred million year old ghost lineage of basal thyreophorans that we’ve never discovered before. The less likely scenarios are bipedal armored ceratopsian or a completely new kind of ornithsician, both of which have been genuinely considered by some paleontologists! Whatever the case, Jakapil represents a brand new, never-before seen lineage of dinosaurs unlike anything we’ve ever known before, and that’s SO COOL
Aesthetically, this is a bipedal armored dinosaur with tiny abelisaur-grade arms, estimated to be less than 5 ft long and 15 lb (or 1.5 m and 7 kg max). Literally perfect. I’m really bad at visualizing measurements but I’m pretty sure you could pick it up and hold it in your arms if you tried. Sure you could do that with Heracles or Caihong, but you don’t need a Time Machine to pick up parrots and shiny bird things - there’s nothing like Jakapil for you to hold and snuggle today
They’re so friggin weird. It’s got jaws like a ceratopsian or a heterodontosaur, a jaw bone that no other basal thyreophorans have, arm anatomy shockingly similar to abelisaurs, and THEY CAN CHEW. I know that chewing seems really normal to us humans but it’s so weird to see outside of mammals. Practically the only other dinosaurs that chew are ornithopods. Jakapil seems like it’s trying to be as many kinds of dinosaur as possible, which further supports my statement that it is the Ultimate Dinosaur
It’s armored and covered in spikes. ‘Nuff said
Also a friendly reminder that the only other known bipedal thyreophoran is Scutellosaurus, which was from Early Jurassic Europe. Jakapil is from late Cretaceous South America, so this guy just popped up across the world a hundred million years later with practically no trace of its ancestors. How did this happen? What the fuck were its ancestors doing in that time? Heracles may have given us neat answers to New Zealand-y questions, but Jakapil gave us questions we didn’t even know needed to be asked
I’ve said it once and I’ve said it again, South America’s fauna has been friggin' amazing since the Cretaceous and never stopped. Automatic points for being a South American dinosaur. This guy lived alongside Giganotosaurus and Buitreraptor!!
What about the other contestants, you may ask? Kholumolumo is only here for the meme. Outside of the funny name and it’s absurdly convoluted history to getting formally named, what do you actually know about it? How much does it contribute to our understanding of dinosaurs compared to the other contestants?
Caihong is basic. I’m sorry but I won’t back down from this (for another few months at least). I love dromaeosaurs as much as the next person, but literally all that Caihong has going for it is it’s ultra-inridescence. Any other Chinese dromaeosaur could provide the rest. Look past your instinctual love of shiny things and vote for something that breaks away from everything we thought we knew to become something truly unique!
As for Heracles... I actually have nothing bad to say about Heracles, I love New Zealand's fauna and giant flightless birds (especially on islands). But while I love Heracles for everything it stands for, I feel like Jakapil stands for so much more. Heracles is a wonderful addition to our knowledge of it's lineage and environment, but also... is it really that surprising to find a giant flightless bird in New Zealand that belongs to that a family endemic to New Zealand? Jakapil is just such a bizarre, fascinating, unexpected discovery from so many perspectives. It is truly the ultimate dinosaur, and we should honor it as such
As of the time of writing there's still four days left at the polls and Jakapil is a steady second place in all three of them. We still have time to win this for Jakapil and dethrone Caihong!

Touken Ranbu is closing the EN server. I have to cry about this somewhere and Tumblr is it.
Touken Ranbu has been my happy place game since the EN version was released. I've collected every single sword in spite of my terrible rng luck, was well on my way to collecting all the kiwames and I've played every event since launch. I've loved having my little daily routine of logging in to do daily missions or work on events and it was always the game I reached for when I wanted something lowkey to take my mind off whatever.
I don't regret the time or money I've spent. I enjoyed every minute I got to play and I'm glad I had the chance to experience the game translated. What I do regret, in hindsight of course, is that I was supporting a garbage publisher who didn't care about the game or the players. To see this game be so unceremoniously shuttered has been absolutely heartbreaking.
The disrespectful way the closure has been handled just salted the wound of losing the game. I'm disgusted at how dismissive they have been towards the global player base. The lack of even an ounce of compassion really hurts.
I won't say I'm never going to play on JP but it certainly won't be any time soon. The prospect of starting over from nothing and having to jump hoops to do so is daunting to say the least. I also can't help but feel like they don't really want me to play their game. If they did, they'd have made even the slightest effort to keep the EN server afloat, transfer our accounts to JP or, at the very least, made it easier to play on the JP server. And, I really don't want to have the rug pulled out from under me again if they decide to prevent access to global players in the future.
I'll eventually find something else to hyperfixate on but I'll never forget my precious toudans, my beautiful honmaru and how much they all meant to me. <3

Vote for Annakacygna!
First off, it's a weird and enormous swan, which is pretty cool on its own, but more importantly, Vorombe is sadly not in the spirit of Dinosaur March Madness: Rising Stars. When it was most likely its own genus, Vorombe would have been a worthy contender, but given the paper indicating it may not be distinct from Aepyornis, this is no longer the case. This year's contest is meant to celebrate recent discoveries, and while a new and informative fossil of a preexisting bird is exciting, it just wouldn't be right for that to win the bird bracket over something truly distinct. I'd hate to have the top bird (or even DMM winner) need to have an asterisk by its name. I have hope that Heracles or Cryptogyps has a chance to defeat Vorombe in the next round, but it's not a guarantee. This is a humble request to consider this factor if you haven't already voted this round.
P.S.: If your reason to vote for Vorombe is that it reminds you of Harambe, I'm sorry, but I don't care for that joke in general and it's hardly a reason for a DMM vote

Since Twitter might be dying, I'm gonna post my Blue Reflection Sun rambles here. This is a more in-depth discussion about the Blue Reflection Sun "Controversy" here that I have already made a shorter statement on my Twitter: here
TLDR: I still feel the same way but with more looking into it and taking in more opinions. I'm even MORE cautious.
But here we go.
For those of you who aren't aware cause it is a niche franchise, Blue Reflection is a Magical Girl RPG developed by Gust (the same developers of the beloved Atelier series) and published by Koei Tecmo in early 2017 that eventually had gotten an anime called Blue Reflection Ray and a sequel game called Blue Reflection Second light that came out in 2021.
It's a small franchise but it is a beloved one for many, many reasons. As a game series that prides itself on all female casts with in-depth emotional storytelling that explores the nuanced of a young girls life in ways most games and hell even anime ignore. It caught the eye of A LOT of women. Plus the magical girl market isn't even touched really in the gaming sphere unless you play a game based on an already living magical girl IP. But Blue Reflection was new and it handled it's emotional storytelling gracefully as well as having very heavy lesbian or at least bi coded things. (You can take the girls on dates in Second Light). So, of course, this attracted the girls and the gays (mostly there are of course cis male het fans of Blue Reflection) to the series and to love it. And the fact this niche franchise got not only 2 games but an anime is very impressive. After the release and subsequent great positive reception of Second Light alot of Blue Reflection fans (which I will now abbreviate to BR) we're looking forward to the future of the series. Including me.
My relationship with BR is a very positive one. I played and genuinely loved the first game and still have yet to watch Ray or even play second Light due to financial troubles and time management. Though I plan to. But ive beaten the first game 3 times over and nearly 100% it. So I'm a very loyal fan to BR. It was the first RPG I played to explore such themes in life and honestly it is one of my favorite games of all time. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard about Sun. A new game under the BR franchise. Of course, it diminished a bit when I heard it was a mobile game, as alot of niche mobile games never get sold to the west, but I was still interested and optimistic. Until, I saw an article mention the infamous thing-
'there is a male protag'
Now, again for the uninformed this isn't a big deal. Alot of jrpgs is male protag led. But for BR it is a BIG DEAL. as BR 1, Ray, and Second Light were entirely female lead casts. Cause the main theme of BR is female growth and development. It explores the nuances, day to day happenings, traumas, and more of a teenage girls life. Which, isn't new for the magical girl genre but it was new for the video game market. It was this that made BR so unique and beloved. That earned it it's audience that allowed BR to get not only a sequel but an anime. Besides Sun is not being developed by it's original maker Gust, it's being developed by DMM. Which I know little about so I shall not speak on them.
This sounds like the perfect pipeline to suddenly through in a harem whiteboard protagonist that every girl can use as a bouncing pad to grow from while being in love with him. Which, as you can expect from a series that original have well rounded female characters playing off of each other and learning to grow organically from their bonds, caused a large uproar from the fans. JP and western alike. Which surprised me, it's rare to see worldwide fanbases agree like this.
Now, I did mention that I have a bit of hope, cause it's not out yet and we can only tell how this male protag is handled. And many people outside of the BR community are calling the current fans 'stupid', 'overreacting', or even 'bigotted' for their freaking out. Which I also think is wrong. Cause we have a reason to be cautious. BR was a safe haven franchise for some. For WLW to see themselves and see their struggles either current or when they were younger being somewhat explored in a game. To see characters like them or hell, even be like me and see a game that encourages your femininity and tells you not to shy away from it. And any gender can really get attached to those themes. But of course, it really hits a chord with those fans. So of course they will be upset, of course they will feel alienated because after 2 games and an anime, Gust has built this IP that means so much to such a large marginalized group of people and seeing it suddenly fall into the norms of anime jrpg, or even worse MOBILE anime jrpg silliness hurts.
Now, I have hope. Why? Because Gust owns BR. and Gust writes men really really well. I feel like we all forget that half of the Atelier games also have male leads. Logy, Vayne, Felt, Razelux, and more. Those characters are good. And it's not like there are no men in BR at all. There are of course mentions of boyfriends, fathers, brothers, male teachers, etc. Also, there may be a twist with the protag that makes him more up to the girls level of characterization that makes up for it. Maybe he's trans? Maybe he's also just coming into a time to explore his feminine side? Who knows? Cause the game isn't out yet.
Of course, like I said, DMM is heading this project which still leaves me room for being worried. I love BR so,.so dearly and I wouldn't want to see this mobile title make it burst into flames. But I've already seen some fans who already have decided to not get the game, and even someone go as far to destroy their copies of BR 1 and Second Light. Which is NOT what you should do.
Personally, my move is this. Wait until Sun comes out, look out for the story and see how the protag is and if you think it's worth trying. Try the game (especially if it is free to play) but DO NOT use your money on it yet. Only use money when you can confirm that you like the protag and how they characterize and use him. If they do well, fall into it. If they fail, quit the game. Especially if the fabled "harem" route becomes a reality. You vote with your dollar people.
Now, remember everyone, we all love Blue Reflection, and we want more of the magic gust have us on 2017 and 2021. So we need to be willing to give them a chance to explore where to take BR but be critical when it is a way that takes away the magic we all loved. After all, BR reminded me that being a girl doesn't make me lesser or just a commodity for someone else's dreams.
Go on Reflectors!

So I didn’t think that I would have time to watch Mankai Stage Spring 2023, but luckily I was able to get home earlier than I expected, so I had time to watch one of the showings. But I just spent around $50 on charging my points on DMM, and two different vpn subscriptions, but dmm still won’t let me watch it. And I’m so frustrated. I’m so done. I’m not even going to try anymore.

CASA EN UN ACANTILADO
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Summoning Sparks
[Az, Enkidu]
---
The large intricate circle on the floor whirred, emitting a few bright sparks, but ultimately produced nothing.
“It’s still goin’, huh?” Az asked, thumbs in her pockets.
“Yes. I could likely let them in now if you wish, but—“
“I’d rather not. Already got plenty of Servants to take care of as is, and… I don’t quite think whoever’s on the other side of this one is going to be particularly pleasant to deal with.”
Enkidu looked up at their Master. “That might not be a decision you get to make, Az.”
He looked to the side with a scoff. “Yeah, well it’s still one I’ll make if I can help it. Just… Keep it closed if you will.”
The summoning circle on the ground continued to periodically spark and whir just the same. Enkidu resumed staring at it.
“I will do my best, Master, although no guarantees it will change the outcome.”
“That’s fine,” Az replied, turning to leave the summoning room. “So long as an attempt’s made, whatever happens, happens.”
