Prayer to Aphrodite Aeria for courage and emotional strength to love freely
O Aphrodite Areia, mighty in love and war, Goddess who blurs the lines of battle and amour, I call upon your power, fierce and fair, To grant me courage in the face of despair.
In the arena of heart, where doubts assail, Bestow upon me strength that shall never fail. May the rose of valor bloom within my chest, And in the crucible of trials, may I find rest.
With your guidance, let my heart be bold, Not swayed by fear, nor seeking to withhold. Transform my trepidation into fearless might, As I navigate through shadows to reach the light.
In love's complex wars, where emotions sway, Lend me your fortitude to face the fray. Aphrodite Areia, in your sacred name, I seek the courage to love without shame.
Grace me with resilience, come what may, An unyielding force in both work and play. Through tempests of sorrow, through torrents of tears, May your presence soothe and calm my fears.
With the golden apple’s promise and the dove's gentle peace, Let my soul's armor be forged, my inner strength increase. For in your divine essence, both tender and fierce, I find the emotional vigor and the courage I beseech.

people will be like "Zeus worship makes no sense, he was a terrible person in the myths so there's no reason for modern pagans to view him as a nice guy" my friend he is LITERALLY the god of treating your guests well. I'm begging you to realize that myths are not the end all be all of polytheistic religions

Hi :)
I have a question about the term "dodekatheism", is it true that it's questionable to use to describe the traditional Greek religion?
Dodekatheism is a term used widely, if not most commonly, inside Greece to address the followers of the Ancient Greek religion. The Hellenic Polytheists of Greece themselves prefer the term «Έλληνες Εθνικοί» which can loosely be translated to Ethnic Hellenes, Hellenic Ethnics. In English the meaning shifts to an inaccurate degree as it makes it a matter of ethnicity questioning even more. In Greek it is less so but only because of context. That is, the reason they go by Ethnic Hellenes is because this is how Greeks are addressed in the Bible most often. They are called “ethnics”, which is a short characterisation of the Greek people who at the time were omnipresent in the Roman Empire but believed in their own idolatrous ethnic religion. That’s from the view of the Jewish evangelists. They do not call the Greeks “Romans” and they do not equate the two. They call them “the Ethnics”. The polytheists must like that and it must have resonated with them, as they feel they follow the true Greek religion.
However, in our times, and ever since Christianity prevailed anyway, Christian Greeks do not like calling the contemporary “Ethnics” as such because that would raise implications about their own ethnicity out of nowhere. (This is even more so the reason all Greeks take an issue with foreign believers calling themselves Hellenes or believers of Hellenism, because it is exactly like saying Greeks or believers of Greekness, EXACTLY). Besides, it is the firm conviction of most Greeks that Orthodox Christianity is in fact irreversibly bonded with the Greek ethnos, and to be fair, this is entirely true. Orthodoxy has been catalysing and shaping to an extreme degree in Greek culture and history, certainly no less than the Ancient Religion. (Of course Orthodoxy has spread way beyond Greece but here I am only talking about the impact on Greeks in specific.)
So, such petty quarrels are pitiful. Both religions are bound to be parts of the Greek identity, there is simply no “A True Greeker One Religion”.
But many Hellenic Polytheists dislike the term Dodekatheism Christians use a) because the Ancient Greek religion had numerous gods, not just the 12 Olympians and b) because they understand Christians use it out of annoyance at the ethnic term.
The Hellenic Polytheism is a term that is more or less accepted by everybody. I don’t think Dodekatheism is seriously problematic or harmful, it’s just the connotations that can be drawn that make some polytheists uncomfortable perhaps. But I believe I must have seen a few, like in old articles or so, going by the name Dodekatheists on their own.
As for believers of the Hellenic Polytheism abroad, the term Dodekatheism resolutely does not have problematic meanings, except that it is somewhat inaccurate if a believer honours many more deities than just the twelve Olympians, which is almost always, because if you believe in an Olympian, then why wouldn’t you acknowledge the existence of lesser deities connected to them or their progenitors, right?
If you ask me, Hellenic Polytheism / Polytheists is the most inclusive and accurate term for Greeks and foreigners alike.
Hope I helped :)

untitled, 2023 (a worshipper’s plea after absence)
Apollo, please show me
How to become yours again
I miss how it feels to bask in your light
How your smiles sound on lyre
Can you show me?
Can you you teach me the steps to take?
I want to feel your love again
Your presence in my home
I want to feel your touch again
Ephemeral like foam
Shall I sing your praise again, my lord?
Will you strike words into my heart?
Do you want me to write a hymn again?
The long and storied art?
Perhaps if I write the right song
The perfect rhythm, a catchy tune
If I find the perfect melody,
Will I hear you singing soon?
If you want me to wait, I’m sure I can
Though the distance aches each day
Did you miss me like I miss you?
When I had gone astray?
Due to circumstances outside our control we left our practice abruptly a few years ago. Coming back now, I feel as if reconnecting is difficult. Writing poetry is much harder. This poem, however, flowed rather easy.
If you enjoyed this and would like to support my work, please check out the links in my description.

Under-appreciated aspect of Hera: Goddess of the Sky and Stars.
This is something we don't see very often, but it makes a great deal of sense if we also consider that Zeus is the God of the Sky and Weather. In fact, I actually consider those to be Their original* domains.
Respecting the real significance of Hera, the ancients themselves offer several interpretations: some regarded her as the personification of the atmosphere (Serv. ad Aen. i. 51), others as the queen of heaven or the goddess of the stars (Eurip. Helen. 1097), or as the goddess of the moon (Plut. Quaest. Rom. 74), and she is even confounded with Ceres, Diana, and Proserpina.
Quote from Theoi.com
*To say these are Hera and Zeus' original domains is UPG afaik. But before They were married, before They were King and Queen, what were They? To me, They were probably sky deities first.

Blessed Full Flower Moon!
Tonight on the 5th of may we celebrate the full flower moon. 🌕🌺
The full moon will be in the water sign scorpio and is also influenced by the planet Pluto going retrograde. This is a time of transformation and intuition and inner wisdom.
One night later on may 6th/Mounykhion 16th in hellenic polytheism we also celebrate the festival of Mounykhia, a day on which to honor the goddess Artemis and her connection to the moon and role as a moon goddess.
Two days ago I started preparing by researching the full flower moon and Pluto going retrograde and I chose which oracle cards would fit nicely with this full moon to put on the altar to Nyx, especially since the full moon would happen during the evening and night time. Yesterday before leaving my apartment I re-organized my altar, brought an offer and put up the altar cards, one to show of my gratefulness to Nyx, the gods and the moon because I received a lot of signs, consultation, guidance, strength, positivity, happiness and luck since the last full moon so this full moon it was extra important for me to show that gratitude. The rest of the cards were to really tap into the specific themes and energies of this full moon and to manifest good upcoming things for this month and the near future. I also put up the oracle card representing the element water since the full moon will be in scorpio, a water sign.
I spend the day of the full moon by wearing a shirt with the moon on it that says "tonight is the night", and went to buy cake with my mom to celebrate. Mom actually came to get me to go outside and watch the full moon, but at that time the moon was still rising. So later in the night we went outside again to watch her shine really bright and beautifully. We stood outside for a while looking at the moon and focusing on the silence of the night and the beauty of the moon and her light. During the night I also listened to my devotional playlist and watched an interview with my favorite band and they actually also mentioned that it's the full moon today and that we should do a little ritual ;)
Blessed be!
"I do not steal the night, I just reveal the beauty of the darkness" 🌕

It was celebrated on the 18th of Skiroforion (June) according to the official and handed down priestly formality of the Greek Orthodox Church, the Summer Solstice in our recognized Temple in Athens. Together with the ruling God of Minos, Mercury and the virtues of Sociability and Sociability.
Celebrations for the Summer Solstice were also held by the YSEE branches in Greece and abroad.
At the Summer Solstice we inaugurate summer and celebrate the greatest manifestation of the god Apollo. It is the longest day of the whole year. These days when sunlight predominates are at the peak of a cycle where the solar consciousness reaches closer to the source from which it came. By celebrating the Summer Solstice we honor the gods Apollo, Helios and the ruler of the month Mercury.

I’m Going to Celebrate Haloa for the First Time This Evening
I am extremely excited to celebrate Haloa for the first time this evening, based on my slightly adapted Lunar calander for personal useage.
I’m not entirely sure what meal I’ll be making for myself this evening, but we’ll see how it goes!
Demeter has become such a bedrock in my practice as a Hellenic Polytheist. There’s so much I want to share about that relationship, but I don’t even begin to have enough spoons to write out the novel that would end up being in the end.
I need to do a tiny bit more research on this holiday, but my plans are to honor Demeter, Dionysus, and Persephone this evening’s ritual.

For the past few years I've gotten off track with my faith. The world ending was a pretty big, disheartening, distraction.
But I've felt the need to come back, and I'm basically starting from scratch. I've missed the gods, I've missed seeing the divine in all things, I've missed being a better person.
So, back to basics.

Prayer to Zeus Ktesios
Oh, Zeus Ktesios, guardian of the home, Protector of possessions, in your sacred dome, We call upon your mighty, divine aid, To bless our dwelling and the life we've made.
In your jar, sacred symbols of our life are kept, Over which, vigilant, you have always slept, Watch over our abode, both day and night, With your guidance, everything is right.
Beneath your watchful eyes, we find our peace, May prosperity in our home never cease, From the pantry's abundance to the hearth's warm glow, Bless each corner, let your grace flow.
In every meal that we partake, In each memory that we make, Zeus Ktesios, may you be there, Guarding us with your divine care.
From the threshold to the inner sanctum's heart, May your blessings on our home impart, A sense of safety, comfort, and familial love, Under your protective gaze from above.
Oh, Zeus Ktesios, to you, we pray, Watch over our home, keep harm at bay, With gratitude, we honor your role, Guardian deity of our household whole.

Hello! I've recently been receiving a lot of content and information about the gods on my social media algorithms and am trying to research more in an effort to separate the fact and myths because all the information is new to me. I was wondering specifically about the gods giving people blessings/gifts. I was wondering what are some of the blessings/gifts of Aphrodite, and if I could have possibly been given a gift or blessed by her unknowingly (without me knowing). Like I said I'm very new to all of this information, and intend no disrespect to the goddess, or any of the other gods and deities. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it. <3
Hey there anon! Thank you so much for asking <3
I'm so thrilled that you're starting this research and considering this path, definitely in total support of that and if there's anything else I can help you with or point you towards, please let me know!
This probably isn't the post you were hoping to get, but I hope it is still useful.
While there are a variety of flavors of approaches to worshipping the Theoi, my specific flavor is reconstructionist/reconstructionism. I do significant research into history, archaeology, anthropology, comparative mythology, etc and reconstruct a viable religious practice from that research, that evidence, from confirmed, legitimate academic sources on Ancient Greece and Ancient Greek people/culture.
As I am personally a reconstructionist, my perspective on this subject will likely be different from someone who isn't.
Also, I would be irresponsible to omit the disclaimer that social media algorithms reward engagement and will take the most extreme/wild/engaging content and overpromote that. These algorithms are really cleverly written and HIGHLY advanced and will show you content the computer program has calculated you like, not content at random or content that could be divinely selected for you.
For the sake of this post, I'm going to assume you are speaking about extraordinary/notable blessings/gifts, other than stuff like success in dating, marriage, making yourself more beautiful, beauty in general, etc which are gifts from Aphrodite, just probably not the ones you are asking about.
So while the Ancient Greek people were not mythic literalists, and our religion doesn't take myths literally either, we do use them to teach us things, to show us values, to give us rules, to teach us history, to teach us about the gods, etc.
Within myths, blessings and gifts from the gods served purposes within those stories, whether it was to help a hero achieve a goal, or to demonstrate the power of the gods, or to instruct on an ethical value, or to support a mythic origin for a historical city state, or countless other reasons I can't think of right now.
Aphrodite's mythic gifts have not always turned out well for the heroes they have been bestowed upon. (See: the Trojan War) And given that her mythic blessings/gifts are clearly associated with purposes that we probably don't have today, I feel comfortable saying that we cannot rely on myths to give us any consistent information on what a blessing or gift from Aphrodite would look like today.
I did a brief scan over a few assorted contemporary sources of information on cults of Aphrodite throughout Ancient Greece (Pausanias, Pindar, Strabo, Herodotus, etc) and there is no mention that I have seen so far on ~extraordinary blessings/gifts given by Aphrodite to anyone in the general populace of worshippers, or even consistently to her priests/priestesses/religious people in service to her.
So we can conclude that she probably didn't hand out extraordinary gifts to your average Ancient Greek person on any scale that was so notable it survived in the historical record till this day.
i personally do not feel that there are any objective, externally verifiable, consistent signs/blessings/gifts that Aphrodite gives out today, if she ever even did.
What is a blessing to one worshipper will look like ordinary life events to another, because relationships with the Theoi (and with any god) are heavily individual and subjective. Only you can give the meaning of blessing/gift to something that happens to you. No one on Tiktok/tumblr/wherever can.
There's a lot of information flying around in pagan/neopagan spaces about signs/blessings/etc from Aphrodite and I dislike giving that info authority because for a lot of people, those listed signs/blessings/whatever simply will not apply. And it is a very isolating and sad thing to feel like you are not connected to the gods because you are not living up to someone else's standards.
To be explicit, just because you do not experience Aphrodite's presence in the same that people who go viral on the internet do, does not mean she does not love you, care for you, or want you to worship her.
You don't have to smell roses out of nowhere to be loved by Aphrodite. You do not have to hear things to be cared for by Aphrodite. You do not have to suddenly desire to go to the beach to feel Aphrodite's presence.
the only person who can know if Aphrodite is communicating with you, blessing you, whatever, is you. That is your relationship with her, that relationship is not anyone else's business, and it cannot be dictated by anyone else.
One of the most important parts of my religious practice is seeing the gods in everything and everywhere. In that sense, anything/everything is touched by Aphrodite Areia, my patron and lady to whom I have been devoted to for years. I see her in myself, in other people, in a sunset, in grass, in my cat. I see all of the gods in everything and I work actively on viewing myself as surrounded by the divine, in relation to the divine, etc.
To me, i feel that, for example, my recovery from Borderline Personality Disorder was in part due to her. You could call that recovery a blessing from her, even though I think it's a lot deeper than just a blessing.
If you feel as though something in your life is a gift from her, if you feel her presence and love and divinity there, than it is. It's that simple.
When you first start out on a religious path like this one, I think there's definitely some pressure to try and find your "place", find your gods, find signs from them ASAP. There's a strong desire for concrete "evidence" that these gods you are just starting to build a relationship with are real and listening.
I want you to know that you don't need to have concrete evidence, a lot of people didn't at the beginning, you are loved and welcomed no matter what is going on in your life, and that blessings and gifts from Aphrodite can only be revealed to you, not anyone else. Sorry that this post was so long, again I hope it was useful even it maybe wasn't what you were looking for. Feel free to ask more questions, and if anyone else reading this wants to ask, my inbox is open.

This is a more political type question about Greece, so I know you might not want to answer. But I was wondering about something. What are some warning signs/red flags to suggest that someone might be a far-right Greek nationalist?
For example, in England where I live I'm cautious when someone is very pro-royal family, complains that nobody celebrates St George's Day, flies a lot of English/union jack flags around their house, likes Nigel Farage, etc.
Are there any similar warning signs of far-right people in Greece? Not definite signs, just things that people associate with them.
hii! I know I delayed this a lot but I needed a quiet weekend and time for myself. It also takes some time to consider how to make an answer short, but as concise as possible. These are both warning signs, and things people associate them with, because we know how to spot them.
As you might know, loving your country and caring for your heritage are very normal things for Greeks. Our national pride is not like the US national pride (to give a very known example). It's mostly healthy - although a person's biases can get in the way of that health :P
The Greek term for nationalist/patriot/co-patriot is πατριώτης and can be used in a very good context ("Ανεμισε την ελληνικη σημαια οταν νικησε! Ειναι πατριωτης!" / "Α, ρε πατριωτισσα, τι κανεις εδω στα ξενα!") but there is also the case of extremists using the term to say "I am just a πατριώτης, you know. Nothing special! That's what a πατριωτης does!" (correct me if the translation of πατριωτης is wrong and I will edit the post)
There are clusters of signs, not individual signs that will make you understand it. Unless the guy dons certain symbols. But they usually hide those.
A pretty good sign is seeing them go into election stands / rooms to support the ΕΛΛΗΝΕΣ ΓΤΠ party (Such spaces are opening now that the elections approach) or anything under Michaloliakos. Or Adonis Georgiadis. OH MY GOD ADONIS IS SUCH A RED FLAG.
I've always met men who are into this stuff. Women either are not too involved, or they are too shy to speak of their views. Also, the far-right favors men a lot, so I find it reasonable for more men to be there.
The biggest red flag is hearing these men talk a lot about traditional values and the place of women in society. Along with misogyny comes the standard package of racism and bigotry for anyone who is not a carbon copy of themselves.
An added bonus is that they usually idealize the police and the army and want to serve there, or have served. They are also quite religious, either in Orthodoxy or Dodekatheism. They easily fall for different conspiracy theories, often anti-semitic ones. And there is of course the idealization of our antiquity and the Greek heroes, whom they see as the ultimate macho men who represent their ideals for a right society.
There are a few people who keep Greek flags in their balconies all year round (not just only on national holidays) but I didn't have the chance to meet some and ask for their views. I mean if I remember correctly one of my pretty chill and definitely non-far-right neighbors had the flag for one year and the next he didn't have it. I think some people are just bored to move them because they are quite large.
It's possible they are extremists but there's also the possibility that they like it here, and maybe they want to keep a sign of their Greekness because their Greek family came as refugees to the mainland after the genocide or the Lausanne treaty. Or the flag was forgotten there or an elderly lives in the house and can't do stuff on the balcony. Idk. People who know, write here your experience.
If I forgot anything, write it in the reblogs and comments!

I'm trying to get out of the habit of using Hellenism & Hellenist out of respect for the Greeks but damn Hellenic Polytheist is a mouthful, and Dodekatheist just feels inaccurate.
We need another term. I'm going to probably use Dodekatheist until we figure it out, but we need another term.

New Moon Ritual | Hene Kai Nea or Hekate’s Deipnon
Hekate's Deipnon is one of the main festivities in dodekatheism. Traditionally it's celebrated the last night of the New Moon every lunar month, but nowadays many pagans do it the last day of each solar month.
Tumblr media
Terms
All of these are deposited at a crossroads:
Oxuthimia, household purifications and sweeping.
Katharmata, portions of household sacrifices not used.
Katharsia, remains of sacrifices.
Alternatively, you can burn them.
Activities for the day
Take care of any chores and tasks that you need to finish or have left along the week/even month.
Clean your room, help clean the house, and get rid of any material items that don't serve you any more.
Order your things.
Clean your altar.
Cleanse the house and your body with incense, herbs, lustral water or fire.
Focus on grounding and cleansing meditations.
Rest and spend sometime reflecting on the past month.
Do a fire ritual where you write whatever you want to get rid of in a piece of paper and offer it to the sacred fire for it to cleanse it.
Ritual
Get showered
Get wine or milk for libations
Get food offerings if possible
Empty Zeus’ Kathiskos (if you have one)
Prepare Space and Self
Invoke the Goddess with Orphic Hymn
Perform Efesian Compass for guard
Perform the act of offering and dispose of them outside
Fumigate the home
Close the ritual
Re-guard home if wished
Prepare the space and self
Ahead of your ritual cleanse your altar and/or shrine to Hekate fully, ensuring that any previous food offerings are gathered up and the area is fully dusted. You may also wish to perform the same function for all your altar spaces, adding the detritus and food offerings to your offering to Hekate. You can also include the remnants of cleaning your home at large or any personal purifications rituals, such as those involving the use of eggs (although I would recommend leaving the egg intact for the purpose of the offering).
Place your candle at the centre of your altar / working space and prepare your ritual objects appropriately.
Once ready take a moment to centre yourself and prepare your mind for the ritual ahead.
Invoke The Goddess
Light the red candle saying:
Light goes before me, opening the door. Key to the Gods, be my way-shower.
Recite either a personal hymn of praise and invocation or use the Orphic Hymn to Hekate (or the Homeric Hymn if you'd like).
I call Einodian Hecate, lovely dame, Of earthly, wat'ry, and celestial frame, Sepulchral, in a saffron veil array'd, Pleas'd with dark ghosts that wander thro' the shade; Persian, unconquerable huntress hail! The world's key-bearer never doom'd to fail On the rough rock to wander thee delights, Leader and nurse be present to our rites Propitious grant our just desires success, Accept our homage, and the incense bless.
Ephesian Compass
Perform a preferred method of protection and balancing, the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is a perfect tool for this as it does not establish a magical circle yet at the same time banishing unwanted energies from the self and space. If you would prefer a more Hekate relevant procedure you may try this.
Stand facing the east raising right hand above head, index finger pointing upwards. Visualise a bright light descending from heaven to touch the tip of your finger. Draw the light down to a point level with your third eye saying:
Aaski
Now draw your finger down your body and point at the floor, visualising the light traveling down and into the ground saying:
Kataski
Again with right hand index finger pointing extend out to the right and visualise a beam of light appearing from the extreme distant right to touch your extended finger tip. Draw the light level with your right shoulder and say
Lix Tetrax
Draw your finger across your body and visualise the light passing across you and extending to the far distance to the left saying:
Damnameneus
Visualise the light you have drawn across your body as a brilliant cross which will then rotate to bisect your body, pointing off in the four cardinal directions. Assume a stance where your right hand is raised to the sky, palm facing upwards, and your left pointing down, palm level with the floor. Visualise another beam of light descending from the heavens, entering your body via your upraised hand and passing through you into the earth via your left hand. Say:
Aision! For I am a child of the heavens above, born uniting stars and stones.
Hold the pose and visualisation for as long as feels necessary to create a balance within yourself before allowing the light to disconnect from the macrocosm before being drawn into you.
Offering of Deipnon
If you are offering a list of things you do not wish to carry forward into the new month you much dedicate it to Hekate before commencing with Deipnon proper. Do this by burning the list to ash whilst saying words of release for example;
I offer unto you all that is distasteful, remove these things from my life O Borborophorba, eater of filth, so that I may be cleansed and purified.
Once the list has been burned, add the ash and anything that remains to the offering place. Deipnon can now carry on as intended.
Miss this step if you are not including this as an offering. Lift the offering plate and present it to the Goddess saying:
Hekate Trioditis, I give you honour and praise. Goddess Who Walks Between, accept these offerings as thanks for your protection and guidance.
Replace the plate and take up the cup bearing the libation. Present it to the Goddess saying
From Earth to mouth, a drink for the restless dead and their Dread Queen.
It is important to remember that you MUST NOT partake in either offering as they are intended for the dead, not the living.
When taking the offerings outside for deposition, whether that is part of the ritual or following it, repeat words of dedication and libation. Leave and return home without looking back until you have closed the door behind you.
Fumigation
Light your incense and prepare to fumigate your home, starting with your altar, then processing around the home eventually returning to the altar. Visit every room and pay attention to external doors and windows as you pass the incense around. As you process repeat with authority
Ο Εκάτη αποτροπή κακών
O Hekate turn away evil
Once returned to the altar place the incense before your statue / candle dedicated to Hekate.
Close the Ritual
Begin by thanking Hekate for attending your rite in your own words and bid her farewell. Leave any remaining incense and the candle lit in honour of Hekate burning to go out in their own time but extinguish any other flame lit as part of the ritual.
