The Mystery of Tony’s Good Cooking
Tony has all the qualities of a good househusband, except that he sucks at cooking. So I decided I’ll gift him the gift of good cooking.
~~~
Stephen has recently noticed that everything Tony has been giving him to eat, was good. If it were any other person, Stephen would pass it off as someone improving in their cooking skills, but Stephen knows that Tony can’t improve since he tried teaching him himself.
He paid no heed to it, however, and brushed it off as Tony buying takeaway, no matter how much Tony insisted that he cooked it himself.
His mind was changed, though, when he came home one day to find Tony standing in the kitchen, next to the stove, and cooking.
“Nothing’s on fire,” Stephen noted as he came closer. Tony was really cooking, making noodles that had a rather nice aroma. Could this be store-bought, and he was just pretending to cook it?
“Thanks,” Tony said and turned around to give him a peck on the lips, “want a bite?”
That’s when Stephen started getting suspicious, “it’s not ready yet.”
“The sauce is, though,” Tony pointed at some tomato sauce that was cooling on the counter.
Stephen frowned. Maybe the sauce was store-bought, and Tony managed to make some pasta. “I don’t want sauce with nothing else.”
“Your loss,” Tony said and took a dip of the sauce, putting his finger into his mouth.
Pepper walked into the kitchen, and took a look at Stephen, and pointed at Tony, “dear, are you seeing this?”
“I’m still not buying it,” Stephen said and took his own peck from Pepper. “Something’s not right.”
“No, no, he started cooking when I got home. This isn’t some trick.”
“Will you guys stop talking about me like I’m not here?” Tony complained, “I can cook now, deal with it.”
“Maybe he learned some magic?” Pepper asked Stephen.
“He sucks at it, too, but it’s more plausible than him learning how to cook.”
“Hey! I’m not bad at magic or at cooking, now call Morgan to tell her dinner’s ready.”
Stephen followed Tony’s wish, but he still wanted to know how he did it.
~~~
FRIDAY would not share how Tony can cook, so Pepper went through Tony’s bank accounts, looking at his expenses.
“No takeaway food, he’s actually buying groceries.”
“Well, what else did he pay for?”
“He wrote a check for George Richards.”
“Who’s he?”
~~~
Turned out he was a private cooking teacher, and Tony was seeing him when Pepper and Stephen were at work.
Pepper and Stephen decided to ask Tony why he was doing this, and tell him he didn’t need to prove a point. But Tony’s answer was sweet, and he didn’t get that kind of response at the end.
~~~
“Hey, Tony, do you know anyone named George Richards?” Pepper approached the topic gently, while Tony was busy fixing the lamp.
“Rings a bell,” Tony answered cheekily.
Stephen rolled his eyes, “come on, Tony, we know already. Why did you want to be taught cooking?” And who’s the genius who succeded, Stephen didn’t ask.
Tony stopped his work and looked his partners in the eye, “I love our family, I just wanted to not waste your time. While you’re both busy at work, someone has to take care of Morgan's lunch. I didn’t want her to eat leftovers from your cooking at the weekends every week, so I decide I’ll make the food for her, and you guys will have something at dinner to eat. Plus, there isn’t much to do, now that I’m retired.”
~~~
Pepper and Stephen decided Tony had good intentions, and let him continue meeting his very expensive tutor.
But turned out Tony’s cooking lessons, weren’t all smooth sailings. So they watched Tony’s amusing failed attempts at cooking when FRIDAY lets them see the security feeds.
Rhodey, Peter and Happy all found it very entertaining as well. Which is how a tradition started, that before every big meal Tony made, they all laughed about how he got there.
I wrote the first 806 words of “Entropy”, my kidnapped!Stephen fic, and I think that this is it. After three false starts I like this much better than its predecessors. Yay me, took me only about 8 months since the first start. Well, better late than never, I guess. Hmm, wish me luck, okay? I really need it for this one.
And what did I do in celebration? Wrote a short little Stephen & Wong scene. *facepalm* Whatever. I’m going to post that little thing and I’ll call it a night.
Drpepperony prompt: piano (Because playing the piano is mostly mostly memory and I knew someone who has problems with his hands and is still playing the piano) Stephen is home alone with morgan and she is asking him to play for her. At first he is nervous but he does it, reluctantly. When he starts playing it is slow and faulty. (I think about Beethoven or Mozart or Bach, because its Stephen and thos three are a pain in the ass) Part 1
Tumblr media
...You know this ask is a wonderful fic on its own, right? I doubt anything I write can do it justice, THANK YOU for gracing my inbox with it. I gratefully share it with the world 💕
In the meantime, your lovely ask inspired me to write a piano-related ficlet. This is going to be short and simple. I’ve been out of practice, so I’m stretching out my writing legs a bit 😅
Imagine this cheesy 80s ballad, if you will, played soft and slow, and sung in Benedict’s luscious baritone. It’s been in my head for the last couple of days and I think it wants to be written into fic, so I’m gonna 😆
***
There was a piano in the house, but no one knew how to play it.
Tony bought a baby grand just because his mother used to play a grand piano in the house where he grew up; he was hoping Morgan would learn to play the piano, too, someday.
Sometimes, when Happy or Rhodey came by, there would be live music in the house. But their knowledge of piano was limited to basics, and live music” often meant either “Chopsticks” or “The Entertainer” (the former of which six-year-old Morgan already knew how to play).
And sometimes, when Tony was in a petulant mood, he would bang away on the keys rhythmically and Morgan would bounce around in proximity. He would call what he did “piano playing” and Morgan would call what she did “dancing.”
And no matter what might have been bothering the two of them before, the piano would make them feel better.
They loved that piano. Even if no one in the house actually knew how to play it.
So when Morgan’s parents learned that her Papa Stephen did, they were over the moon.
“Play something for us,” Pepper pleaded.
“I haven’t played in years,” was how Stephen tried to beg off from it. “My hands aren’t what they used to be...”
“Something simple, then,” Tony insisted. “Like a pop song. Anything.”
“Hmm,” Stephen mused aloud, “I used to be able to do Rachmaninoff. But these days, I think I can manage Farnham...”
“Farnham?” Out of habit, Tony looked over at his wife-slash-classical art curator. Pepper shrugged, brow furrowed.
“John Farnham? You don’t know him?” The mild sarcasm in Stephen’s voice was lost on all the other people in the room. “Well, let me introduce you.”
“Are you going to sing?” Morgan eagerly asked. “I hope you sing, Papa. I like when you sing.”
She sounded so excited. And her excitement was mirrored in her parents’ eyes.
“Why, yes, I am going to sing,” Stephen replied, then joked: “And if the rain starts falling, you’ll know whose fault it is.” *
The truth was, he was confident of his singing voice. Especially since Tony had said he loved it, not too long ago.
Still, Stephen couldn’t help but feel a little nervous...even if it really was a simple song, one he could play with his eyes closed. It was one of the first songs he’d learned to play by ear, and he’d played it over and over, back in the house where he grew up.
These were the people he loved. He didn’t want to disappoint them.
And at the same time, he felt that only not playing would disappoint them. They would love anything, as long as it came from him.
Cushioned by this feeling, his reluctant hands struck the first few chords.
Please don’t ask me what am I thinking
It’s about you
And please don’t ask me I never can see you
What can I do?
Even if his rhythm was slightly off, and his voice shook, and his fingers stumbled over a few of the notes, his audience was mesmerized, so he couldn’t be doing too badly.
Halfway through the song, Tony sat beside him on the piano bench, but didn’t interfere with his playing. Stephen felt Tony’s comforting closeness keenly, felt as if his hands took strength from it.
And Pepper moved to stand behind him, lay a hand lightly on his shoulder. Then he felt his hands settling into familiar patterns, remembering how to move.
And when the song was over, his reward was the sight of three lovely faces glowing with admiration and pride.
“I like that song,” Morgan said with the sweetest smile.
Stephen returned that smile. “I’m glad you do. It’s a very special song to me.”
“It’s a sad song,” Pepper remarked. “It must have come at a sad time for you.”
Stephen brought his fingers up to touch the back of Pepper’s hand on his shoulder.
Tony took one of his hands and held it.
When Stephen thought about it, it was true: the song only came with sad memories for him. His childhood. Losing family. Selling off the piano in his apartment in New York. Leaving. Believing his feelings weren’t returned.
It had been a very long, very sad time.
“It did,” he breathed, “but it’s over now.”
He could say it to himself freely in this house filled with love and joy, this warm place where he belonged:
Only the song remained. The muscle memory of sadness and being alone.
***
* (It’s a joke around these parts, that bad singing causes rain. I’m not sure how well-known it is, so I’m explaining the joke 😅 )
In This House, We Don’t kill Anything
Felt like writing something sweet and one of my headcanons. Enjoy!
“Papa!” a scared scream pierced through the quiet of the lakeside cabin, startling Stephen out of his peace of reading a book.
It was Morgan who screamed. Morgan never screamed. It wasn’t as if she was quiet, it was just that nothing scared her. She had Iron Man for a father, Rescue for a mother, the Sorcerer Supreme for another father, Spider-Man for a brother and a cyborg alien for an aunt. By this point, the girl wouldn’t bat an eye at anything. The fact that she screamed made Stephen very alarmed, and he rushed up the stairs to his daughter's room.
“Darling, what’s wrong?” he asked her.
Morgan pointed to the floor. Stephen looked at what she pointing at. It was a spider.
Stephen nearly laughed, but stopped himself in time. He wasn’t that mean, he shouldn’t make fun of his daughter's fears.
“Kill it, papa! Before it bites me like it bit Peter!” the girl said, panicking and shielding herself with a blanket she pulled up to her chin.
Stephen is sometimes at such awe of the fact that this is his domestic life. The biggest threat that can come up today, is probably this spider. Stephen was kind of grateful. He used to think he wanted to have a fast-paced life, no dull moment, but now, he finds that this is enough. This parenting Morgan, this waking up with Tony’s head uncomfortably buried in his chest, this kissing Pepper before she goes to work and this ruffling Peter’s hair fondly. Tony used to go through the exact same thing. Sure, Tony is retired and he isn’t, but these are the best parts of his day.
Stephen tilted his head, “I’m not going to kill it. The spider didn’t do anything.”
Morgan pouted, something that always reminded him of Tony, and something she rarely did. Before the girl could protest though, he materialized a piece of paper in his hand. He crouched down to the floor, and gently put the spider on the paper. He then stood, walked to the window, opening it, and flipped the paper so the spider could fall down to the garden beneath.
“Thre you go,” he walked back to where his daughter was, and sunk onto Morgan’s matress, tucking her in, “safe and sound.”
Morgan relaxed into the warm bed, but furrowed her brows, “why didn’t you kill it?”
“I didn’t kill it because you can’t just kill anything that is in your way,” Stephen said, answering those big brown eyes, “right?”
Morgan mulled it over for a second before saying with a teasing tone, “Is this because you took an oath, papa?”
Stephen chuckled, “not only, wise-girl. This spider has a life. It isn’t just meant for you to kill it.”
Morgan looked away from his, guilt evident in her eyes.
“It’s okay, though, not such a great life,” Stephen amended quickly.
Morgan giggled, “you’re right, papa. I shouldn’t kill it.”
“Just call me next time,” he offered, giving the little girl a squeeze on the shoulder, “enough with insomnia, it isn’t healthy. Go to sleep.”
Morgan nodded and closed her eyes, “you know, dad doesn’t like to kill spiders either. He asks mom to do it.”
Stephen chuckled. It’s true, Stephen had witnessed it.
Stephen left the room after Morgan fell asleep, the smile on his face proud and happy.
Morgan-centric ficlet: Her Name
I knowwww I should be working on drpepperony prompts or the Water fic, but I woke up with this in my head yesterday and I just have to get it out.
Inspired by @amethyst-noir naming Morgan’s sister as “Hope.” Will keep this compact. Just need to get it out there.
There’s a short note at the end.
 ***
 Morgan often did things that she couldn’t explain. At ten years old she still wasn’t quite able to say why she wouldn’t let people call her “Morgoona,” preferring to let that nickname be forgotten.
Uncle Rhodey and Uncle Happy still lapsed sometimes, and she hated that.
She could stand Mom’s “Goonie.” Or Dad’s “Mog.” As corny as both were...
But “Morgoona” was different. It was a baby name. It was a sacred name.
It was both, and neither.
Hearing it made her feel...she had no other word for it but “weird.” Like it belonged inside her, in the past, six feet underground - anywhere but on anyone else’s lips.
She had a thing about names. Her own was nice - it had a hundred nicknames, all valid. She loved it, and had been hoping her new baby sister’s name would be as cool as hers.
In fact, she’d been hoping she would be named Jordan. So they could be a “kickass name” tandem, when they grew up and fought evildoers together.
Morgan and Jordan. Mog and Jodie. Goonie and Jordie. There was no way their duo would not sound cool.
Instead, however, her sister’s name was Hope.
A single syllable. Which could not be conjugated. Could not be truncated. Could not be made to rhyme with her own.
At least it was gender-neutral as well? But that was a stretch. How many boys were named “Hope” in the world?
Auntie Hope, Cassie’s mom, was badass. She loved Cassie and she loved Auntie Hope. But she had wanted something unique for her sister. Something that would not remind her of other people.
(Which was a funny thing for Morgan to want, she was aware, because she herself had been named after a kooky uncle - someone who’d looked after her Mom through childhood, when her family was going through some rough straits. She sometimes heard relatives on her Mom’s side draw comparisons, but she always felt like she was a distant creature from her namesake.
(With luck, little Hope - who was most definitely not named after Cassie’s-mom-Auntie-Hope, she was assured - could be the same.)
So now she had a little sister named Hope. Hope Strange. For some reason, her parents agreed that the baby should take Dad’s name.
She wasn’t exactly happy about not being consulted. She deserved to have a say in her little sister’s future. But grown-ups kept deciding on things without her.
Well, whatever. Their next baby better be a Jordan Potts.
She was resigned to the thought that this new thing, this addition to their household, was going to grow up completely separate from her. Her parents decided on her name, her very existence, without consulting Morgan - she was theirs. Not hers.
This was fine.
But then she laid eyes on Hope for the first time. They’d said Morgan’s eyes were open as soon as she came out of the womb. It seemed as if Hope was the same.
Dad’s eyes. Strange eyes. Blue-green-gray-something else, something wonderful.
Their gazes met and she fell in love.
“Hi, Hope,” Morgan softly greeted, “I’m Morgan, your big sister. You can call me Morgoona.”
 ***
 End note: Gosh, 10yo Morgan is so bitter here. And in case it wasn’t clear: this presumes Tony died, and Pepper and Stephen married many years after. Which is why I couldn’t tag it “drpepperony” even if it MIGHT have been.
Also, did Tony really call his daughter “Morgan H. Stark” in Endgame? Quora tells me so. What are the odds that “H” actually stands for “Hope”? 😺
accepting anon asks for a limited time only
i’m turning on my anon asks until 12:00 AM tuesday, July 16, my timezone. after that, you can still send me asks at any time, but not anonymously. i may also disable anon asks sooner than this if i get overwhelmed.
after i finish my fill for my ironstrange bingo “Water” square, i want to work on more drpepperony ficlets. so...
please send me drpepperony prompts 💗
due to RL busy-ness, i can’t promise i’ll work on your prompt, or that i will do a good job with it, or that it’ll get written quickly. but i can promise you my gratitude for helping kick my OT3 inclinations into higher gear 💗
(and yanno, you can send me other asks, too. random stuff, like how you like your coffee, how the weather is where you are, how you plan to solve climate change, etc. go nuts 💗)
now CLOSED to drpepperony prompts.
thanks to everyone who sent in prompts! YOU GUYS ROCK. i think my speed-writing groove is back :D i'll be posting at least one more work this week.
gentle reminder that i may not be able to fic for every prompt, because writing full-on fic (even ficlets) takes up a lot of energy and time for me...but i promise to send along headcanons for the prompts i can't fic for 💕
i think i'm keeping my anon asks on for a while longer (i just need one good reason to close it, i'm serious - i'm THAT avoidant). feel free to send stuff! just not prompts, unless you're willing to wait like forever for me to get to it. i'm all full up for now 😆
Stephen Strange bingo y/n?
As I’ve mentioned before I’m playing with the idea of getting a card for the Stephen Strange bingo. But while I’m not insane enough to not combine my exploding inbox with those cards I don’t want to combine cards. Don’t ask me why; it’s complicated and I don’t really understand it myself, but it would be seperate fills for each card. (It basically comes down to: It’s Stephen’s bingo and Stephen has to be the main character and I always try to balance him and Tony in an Ironstrange fic.)
But (there has to be one) I can’t do 50 stories in a year, not even those short ones I usually do. So it would mostly be short vignettes for the second bingo, probably little scenes with Stephen (and his Cloak) alone or with Wong and drpepperony is also a possibility. Think about those little drpepperony and Wong & Stephen ficlets I posted over the last few days. It would be fills like those.
Plus, I still only know the MCU and am totally overwelmed by the thought of all that comic canon and deathly afraid of fucking things up when I’m only concentrating on Stephen.
Example: Right now I have a cute little thing where Stephen finds and adopts a little kitten. But then I tacked on another page or so where he brings it home where Tony waits for him and they both flail over a cat. And I just don’t know which version is the “right” one. (The second one would fill a square on the Ironstrange bingo, but... I have mentioned that my mind is a complicated thing, right?)
Help me, Obi-Wan tumblr, I don’t know what to do.
Get to know me a little (if you want to)
So, since my post this morning there are 107 of you. Thank you! ❤ While I fully realize that (hopefully) you're here for my stories, I still want to take this milestone as an excuse to tell you a little bit about myself: (Mainly because I really want to squash this whole "fandom is for teenagers" crap that seems to go around.)
A few basics first:
I'm a girl. Or a woman, I guess, since I'm 35 and while I look a lot younger you have to accept the inevitable one day.
I am from Austria. (Yes, German is my native language. If you ever find an "und" instead of an "and" or some random capitalization of nouns you know why.)
I love, love, love make-up and will put everything on my face before I leave the house for work. I don't bother when I'm not working, except when I'm meeting friends or something like that. I like what I see when I look in the mirror but I like it even more with make-up on.
I'm not an adult. I've managed to hold the same job for 10+ years now (and I'm good at it), I'm living on my own in a small flat and I've got an ancient car but that's about it. Otherwise I'm still the same person I was 20 or so years ago. I flail, I cry and I suffer with my favorite characters and I love meta, fic, fanart and vids. My mother still cooks for me on my off-days or I would eat frozen pizza and McDonalds every day. Or just starve to death. That's also very possible.
I love sleep. I don't get enough of it but I love it with my whole being.
 Fandom:
I've been a Star Trek fan since I was 11; discovered online fandom when I was 16 and never looked back.
Star Trek (all of it). Highlander. The Magnificent Seven (the TV show with Michael Biehn). Stargate SG-1/Stargate Atlantis. Hannibal. Doctor Who. And now MCU/Ironstrange. Those are my big fandoms. There was a ton of other stuff in-between. (Star Wars. Harry Potter. Supernatural. The Sentinel. Due South. All the others I'm forgetting right now.) I most often go for the mainstream pairings, except for TOS. Spock/McCoy forever.
I can't decide between 8, 10 and 12 and I'm really looking forward to 13. There may be Doctor Who posts in the near future. We'll see. I have seen all of new and classic Who and have listened to A LOT of Big Finish. I've got no life.
I've been waiting for about a century for Sherlock Holmes 3. I've never before waited this hard for a movie or refused to lose hope. I will run to the cinema in 2020. I've got two people to promise me that they'll watch it with me.
I've always been on the sidelines. Reading and watching the drama unfold. I was never this involved in a fandom before Ironstrange.
When I say my inbox is always open I mean it. If you want something written? (Ironstrange or drpepperony, not this other big pairing with Tony in it.) Hit me. It may take a while but you'll at least a ficlet out of it. It might not be what you're expecting or want but you'll get something based on your prompt. Here's the example tag.
If you want to ask me something? Ask. As you can see from this post I'm a chatty person.
