“lol Arthur Conan Doyle clearly didn’t know anything about drugs. Sherlock Holmes did cocaine but it calmed him down. That’s not how cocaine works!”
There are two options: Arthur Conan Doyle had never met someone addicted to cocaine or he met some with ADHD who was addicted to cocaine

forever and pac are actually the most goated characters and ccs that ive ever had the pleasure of knowing. honestly.
they've been carrying most of the emotional weight on the server for the past few days, which is incredible considering the way they've chosen to go about it. pretending to be on cloud none for multiple hours at a time is utterly exhausting, even moreso with the fact that they were both scattering in sections of lucidity which means they couldn't just be happy for the whole time. it was a very delicate balance of being utterly insane and being trapped in their own "happiness," and it was a balance that they both pulled off rather flawlessly.
i think the choice to make the drug feel more like a suppressor of negative emotions and less like a stimulant of happy ones was an utterly brilliant one. it forced them to still have to be aware of the situation they are in (ie, their child is missing (among other things)) even while being all happy and wild and cheerful, and that just added to the deep unsettling feeling that came along with interacting with them. the fact that any small amount of pushing could make the facade crack was incredible; not only did that give us a plethora of awful, awful angst to have to deal with, it also gave other ccs a chance (if they so pleased) to pry out those fun interactions- 'fun' meaning 'awful and miserable and sad and heartwrenching,' of course.
and. of course. their performances tonight were incredible. you don't even have to say it. cellbit obviously was amazing too, and everyone else played their part well, but, i mean, come on. the two of them showed their terror and anger and fear in the most. just. impressive but also gut-punching way possible. forever deeply in denial of the reality he was being faced with, trying to fall back on the drug as time passed and it wore off more and more, finally snapping due to his panic and thinking that cellbit is cucurucho (which, OW, what the hell), shouting at him to leave his family alone and giving us a window into things that might have actually happened and/or the suppressed thoughts he's been having. pac being terribly, horribly, awfully quiet, sobbing in his prison in the background as forever and cellbit screamed at each other. him only getting more afraid when cellbit started shouting. the reason he started taking the drug in the first place was expertly crafted, honestly, and making him the one that developed the cure was just. a delicious character choice. absolutely perfect. PERFECT. he's so good at portraying emotion and so is forever and AUGHGH. today was perfect. today was so good. i love these guys so much.

substance abuse, addiction, self medicating

eddie munson does not trust steve harrington.
more specifically, eddie munson does not trust steve harrington to be driving his sheep.
now don’t get him wrong, eddie likes steve, he really does! they get along wonderfully and spend a lot of time together since dustin brought them together. thats not the problem.
the problem is that when billy hargrove rocked harrington’s shit a few years back, eddie gained a new customer. a customer who asked for “something stronger” because weed wasn’t helping his migraines and his night terrors.
when robin notices eddie staring daggers into the side of steve’s head because he watches him wipe his nose on his hand as he steps out of the bathroom, she tells him it’s a nervous motion to calm himself down. eddie doesn’t buy it for a second.
he stares at steve all night. waiting for his nose to start bleeding or to catch a glimpse of something dusty on his hand or around his nostrils. but he doesn’t say anything though. at least not until it starts getting close to curfew and steve is standing from the couch.
“alright, kiddos! time to pack up before your parents start to panic,” he claps his hands together before reaching into his front right pocket for his car keys. eddie’s up in an instant with a nervous smile, ignoring the groans of protest in the wheeler basement to focus on steve.
“hey, why don’t i drive the rats home? you- you said you’ve got an early shift, right? go home, go to sleep.” he hopes he sounds convincing. eddie shoves his hands in his back pockets, awkwardly rocking back and forth on his feet. steve’s brows pull together in confusion and he lets out a chuckle.
“it’s alright, man. you drove them, i can take them back,” steve says and shakes his head. eddie has to stop himself from rolling his eyes.
“i just mean, you seemed tired during the movie. sort of…nodding off…” eddie can see the tension in steve’s body. his jaw clicks closed behind his lips and he’s suddenly staring at eddie with a stronger intensity than he would like.
“i’m fine, munson,” steve says firmly, quiet for only eddie. eddie holds his ground. this isn’t king steve, this is just steve. there’s nothing to cower from.
“steve,” he says softy, almost pleadingly, “i’m not okay with you driving them tired.”
“i’m. fine,” steve punctuates. his eyes are wide, hurt, as they flick between eddie’s. he knows he won’t back down.
“steve.”
after a few beats of silence, steve scoffs and turns on his heel. without even a goodbye to the group, he’s out of the basement and out the door.
eddie turns back to the party who’s staring at him like he has three heads.
“…okay. rats, buckley, let’s head out.”

AUUUGHGHGHGHF Q!PAC AND Q!FOREVER ARE EVERYTHING TO MEEEE
god i love people that have lost everything and they turn to something, literally anything to relieve them of their pain. you know what makes them so special. it's the fact that they started taking the drug for different reasons.
i mean, sure, yeah, obviously it was born from the same inciting incident (ie, richas going missing), but that affected the two of them in completely different contexts. forever was set off by that plus a bunch of newfound presidential stress; pac was set off by that, forever succumbing to the drug, mike still being missing, and generally feeling weak and useless to everyone. forever wanted to stop feeling angry at the world. pac wanted to stop feeling sad for himself. they were given different reasons and they just. they pulled off the way it affects them differently so so SO perfectly.
in forever's moments of lucidity, he was so angry. he was furious. he was hollering with rage and shouting at people and pulling guns on those he trusts the most, kicking and punching and clawing at the air so that his family wouldn't be hurt because he is tired of his family being hurt. he is supposed to be the protector and yet every member of the favela 5 has had just awful awful things happen to them and he is so, so angry at everything for hurting them. and being angry is exhausting, especially when that anger is just pain and sorrow and hurt disguised as something else.
in pac's moments of lucidity, he was just sad. he was broken. he was anguished and in turmoil and despair, and he wasn't as hooked on the drugs and as such. we got to actually hear his thought process behind taking the drug. pac was alone. he lost forever, he lost richas, he lost mike, he lost walter bob; everyone close to him, everyone that he loves was just gone, and he couldn't do a single thing about any of it. he felt useless and so, so lonely and was so filled with this deep-rooted melancholy and. ugh.
it's so impressive to do essentially the same thing with two characters and yet have them act completely different for more than one reason. sure, pac had moments of awareness more often and not as aggressively as forever did because he was on risus for a shorter amount of time, but also because that's just...not how his true self manifested. he wasn't angry- or he was, maybe he was, but that wasn't his primary emotion. he was just sad and lonely. forever was angry and protective. pac was sniffling and curling in on himself in his cage, flinching and breaking out into fully-fledged sobs when cellbit started shouting. forever was shouting right back at him, hallucinating, trying to plunge himself further into denial even as his real self fought tooth and nail to get out so he could protect his family. when forever was released from the risas, he screamed and it was one of pent up fury. when pac was released from the risas, he wept. same drug, two different affects on two different people. it gives it a jarring element of reality that's just. utterly incredible. huge props to all involved.
