soft and itimate sex with jacob would just be uggh
It would probably be rare but so worth it
Both laying on the side or one on top of the other and maybe not even doing anything just holding onto the other being as gentle as possible
Whispering sweet nothings to each other just really soft 🫠
Honestly, I don't think it'd be as rare as you'd think. While Jacob does strike me as the sort to enjoy fun, fast, and rough sex, to get that adrenaline pumping, I believe him to also be the sort who would want to actually make love - to have someone show him how much he means to them, and him show that love in return.
I can especially see him seeking that softer physical intimacy when he's been having a rough time with things outside of the bedroom - especially, if it regards getting a tongue lashing from his sister, because he make an impulsive mistake, or something went horribly wrong with his gang during an outing or a street scuffle.
Comfort, reassurance - the sorts of things he would never admit to out loud, but is in genuine need of - would be the very needs shining in his eyes as he moves in to cling to his beloved. It's more than just the idea of him having a praise kink, as many have suggested, it's him wanting that reminder that sometimes he can actually do something right and has value in someone else's eyes.
But again, if he notices his beloved is dealing with the same streak of bad luck or frustrating days, you can bet your hat he would greet them with open arms - ready to embrace them, perhaps make a quiet joke to try and make them smile, and gently guide them to the sanctuary that is their shared bed. Whether the actual act of intercourse comes or not, one can be sure that tender caresses and whispered words of love will certainly be present.
The idea of soft and intimate lovemaking with Jacob does sound like a wonderful thing - I 1000% agree - but perhaps it's a more common occurrence, than you'd think. ;)

KNOWING that ur death will be young and tragic and that u may not even be remembered for ur efforts in the future but STILL continuing to fight despite it all. still continuing to choose to believe that u can make a difference and that it’ll all be worth it in the end. “ur not in this alone/let me break this awkward silence”. mcr’s first ever album and gerard’s voice and the states they were all in during that album. the difference in gerard’s voice, young & new & inexperienced & so different from now. i think it all connects in my mind because there is something just very hopeful about u. like oh noah? my friend noah? yeah he’s gonna go far one day i believe in him. Week 12 Blog
Pages 20-70
Summary
The philosophy of love is a big theme during these couple of pages. Different philosophers like Plato have made a big impact in the psychology of love. He said that the experience of love is an impulse towards something he calls an Idea. You can love many things in a person like their body. Plato sees it as humans are attracted to the natural likes of a body rather than the perfectness that many strive for.
Critical Analysis
There is a lot of history in the book. I’m used to reading books with fiction so it is different to read about the histories of love and how maybe the war in afghanistan. The author uses past events and current events to prove a point and to have sources to back them up. Apart from origins of love, the author also uses relatable sources from different philosophers like Plato. Plato gave the definition of love with someone loves a person but he also stated that everyone gives different definitions of love. I think doing this gives the readers room to think. In books about psychology, it is important that people learn about the histories of love while also experiencing the psychology in itself.
Personal Response
I like the book so far but it’s a little hard to read at times. Since I usually don’t read books about philosophy, it is hard to imagine and picture things since there is nothing to picture. I’m currently taking a psychology class and with the different sources of quotes, I can see some of the things I learned play in the book. In class I learned passion, itimance , and commitment. One of the first things I read about was the different types of love so it was interesting to see it play in philosophy.

Ang Kataas-taasang Pananaw ng Puting Mananakop: Reklamo tungkol sa Isang Political Cartoon ng Amerikano noong Philippine-American War//
The Supremacist Views of the White Colonizer: Rant about an American Political Cartoon during the Philipine-American War
Tumblr media
"Through peace to happiness" / Keppler, Udo J., 1899, September 20. -- src
Buod galing sa sanggunian: //
Summary from source:
"Print shows William McKinley as a circus ringmaster trying to coax a defiant Emilio Aguinaldo to jump through a hoop labeled "Peace"; standing in the background are three figures labeled "Cuba", "Porto Rico" [i.e. Puerto Rico], "Hawaii"."
First and foremost, why is Aguinaldo so ugly?? Have you even seen his face before, Udo Keppler?
Tumblr media
Napakayabang, napakaputi. //
Aguinaldo is not handsome, but neither is he ugly. Yet, in Keppler's illustration, he is drawn demonicly. Also, the colonies are so small compared to the colonizer. It's very condescending, it's very White.
I think this is a good representation of the colonizer's views toward the Philippines. You can also see this attitude in other political cartoons of the time.
They believe that the Philippines belong to them, and the Filipinos defending the land that's rightfully theirs are "disturbing the peace and order of things." You can see behind the white American the other "lands" that they thought were theirs. Because the "Peace" that the white colonizer advocated for is the submission of land and culture to the colonization of the West, so they can erase and re-educate us into being like them. Like "civilized" civilizations. Not to mention, to turn our country into one big profit mine.
Even if we were "rescued" by the United States of America from the Japanese, they are still (both) colonizers. Don't forget how superior the white American viewed themself compared to us. Support our fellow Filipinos, whether they live in and out of the country. Don't support discrimination and white supremacy, whether it's discrimination towards fellow black people, fellow Sino people, fellow native/indigenous people, other fellow Asians. Support the other people whose cultures and lands were erased and belittled by the white colonizer. Remember that then and now, we are in the same shoes. Don't support the White Colonizer.

Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran
1.    Why you choose to review thing song?
I choose this song to review because it’s timely and relevant. During this days we forgot how to take care of our nature, because of our ignorance we don’t even notice that we are already destroying the world that was bestowed to us.
2.    What can you say about the song?
The song is very pleasing in the ears not just because it has a pleasing melody and rhythm but also because the lyrics convey a lot of meanings. The lyrics actually deals with our government and as well all the simple citizen of the nation. The song is very good because everything are on point and everything blends well with each other.
3.    What is the Key element of the song that you love the most and why?
On my point of view the best key element for this song are the lyrics itself because it conveys a lot of different meaning, such as the tune mirrors the entire Filipino culture. It is our inclination that we care for our country and fight for our privileges. Zeroing in on the melody, innovative progression and Economic development were marginally inferred in the line "Hindi nga masama ang pag-unlad at malayu-layo na rin ang ating narrating". We can say that the existence of Filipinos was fine and calm. Nonetheless, the melody uncovered the bad side and what is genuinely occurring in the climate. Taking a gander at the political side during the bagong lipunan time of Marcos system, different environmental issues like air and water contamination, as referenced in the line "Ngunit masdan mo ang tubig sa dagat, Dati'y kulay asul, ngayo'y naging itim" and the line "Ang mga duming ating ikinalatsa hangin, Sa langit, 'sway na nating paabutin" were uncovered. It asked both the Philippine government and the private area to receive supportable and green arrangements that will help the climate. Filipinos are genuinely cherishing and really focusing on their family. The tune referenced in the line "Ang mga batang ngayon lang isinilang, May hangin  pa  kayang matitikman" and the line "May mga puno pa kaya silang  aakyatin, May mga ilog pa kayang lalanguyan". Despite the fact that we face a ton of problems, notwithstanding if its ecological, we stay solid and family arranged by keeping up the inculcated Filipino qualities.
4.    Why would you recommend this song to the other people?
I would recommend this song because it will enlighten every listener on the things that we do constantly in our nature. Through this song they will be able to understand our situation now and can make an action to prevent further distraction.

I love Dolomite
Environment Undersecretary Benny Antiporda on Wednesday denied once again the critics' claim that the crushed dolomites used in the Manila Bay "white sand" project are being washed away by the rains.

What is actually happening, according to him during a public briefing, is that black sands are being "washed in."
“As of now, wala pong nawa-wash out. Wash in po ang nangyayari. Pumapasok po ang buhangin na itim. Hindi po lumalabas ang buhangin na puti,” Antiporda said in the Laging Handa briefing.

5 Risks That Gave 2019 a 180-Degree Turn
It is almost the end of the year, and here we are trying to look back at what basically happened in the year that is yet to end. I am guessing that it will either be a trip down to memory lane or a flashback of regrets. It is undeniable that we are all rooting for the former though.
2019 embodies a different personality for every person. I have scrolled through Instagram looking at people’s 2019 stories - travel, success, milestones, relationships, reconciliation, breakups, enlightenment, coffee, and more coffee. Some would say it is a year to be thankful for; some would say it is something they have to let go of. I am thinking each year boils down into two options: make or break.
I have known people who got married this year, had their first child, graduated from college or graduate school, got back with their ex, traveled a lot this year, just got promoted at work. Others I have known of lost a family member, ended a long time relationship, got cheated on, lost an opportunity they have been waiting for so long, was rejected by a person they liked so much or friendzoned, had a friendship gap because of little things that got out of hand.
Disclaimer lang puu: ‘di ako nagbablind item or nangchichismis.
Each year that passes for us is a mathematical problem that just got solved or just left us even more puzzled than we were in this life. If I were to assess my 2019, I choose the latter. There are so many things this year that got me asking myself, “ What the heck was that?” or “What on Earth just happened?”
I am about to share to you 5 personal things that happened in my year and what I learned from them. These are not just 5 personal issues or drama or whatever you would call that, but they are “risks” I took this year that made me tell myself, “Damn, girl! Ano? Rebel ghorl?”
1. Pixie Cut
Christmas of 2018 was when I finally had a short haircut after 3 years of having a long hair, but 2018 was yet to be shaken. It was because I finally decided, middle of this year, to get a pixie after a year of push and pull conflict with myself. I was too excited to get my hair chopped real short that time and also nervous. Why was I nervous? SIZT! I was about to get the shortest length of haircut in my entire life (so far). Who knows I might sport myself a baldy some day?
Do I consider it a risk? ENTIRELY. It was a huge risk because I was not fully confident that I will be able to pull it off after the magic of the salon blower expires. It turns out to be true. Reactions of the people I know were mixed. “Omg! You cut your hair? I love it!” “It suits you! How I wish I can do the same!” “What happened to your hair?!” “Why did you cut it?” “What are you doing with your life?” (Oo besh may ganun nagtanong, “Ano ginagawa mo sa buhay mo?”)
Tumblr media
How did my family react to it? My brother - no comment. My mother - at first she was confused as to why I would cut my hair very short but she eventually accepted my decision. After months of having my pixie, she also got the same hairdo. Idol talaga ako ng nanay ko. ‘Di bale idol ko din naman siya. My father - he did not like it. He thought I looked like a “tomboy” in Filipino context. Jake Zyrus ganorn daw. Even my relatives from the province was not a fan of it especially the titas. I still love them, but I was on the verge of blaming the culture for what it has imposed on women with short hair and glorifying those with long ones. But I said to myself, WHATEVER.
That is when it hit me.
That is how it feels when you defy the norms without actually violating any rules. Cliché man pero EMPOWERED tayo mga mamshies. It was following my heart’s desire without compromising my faith and principles nor any relationship. It was a great leap for me - doing something new and beyond my comfort zone.
It reminded me of the day I put my life in the hands of the Lord. Many people would say it is very risky and scientifically unstable based on human calculations, but never in my entire life did I feel like I have done the right-est thing until I have surrendered everything to Him.
But why did I grow my hair again? P350 monthly haircut maintenance at Bench Fix Salon. Mahal, besh. Pulubi na ako.
2. 2nd Pair of Lobe and Helix Piercing
The second thing I will talk about is indeed RISKY. I admit that I have compromised few of my principles and relationships here. Example would be the promise to keep the body pure for it is the temple of the Holy Spirit, which means that having tattoos or cuts/wounds do not make the Lord pleased. Also, because I am an educator who is to be a role model in the academic institution, I must not have gotten a piercing that could push my students to do the same which obviously is not allowed in school.
Tumblr media
Second best question is do I regret getting those piercings? Kind of. I am not the type of person who breaks the rules because I detest any form of hassle if it can be avoided. Now, having these piercings is so hassle when I am at work because they have to be removed then put on again at night to make sure the holes do not close.
Hassle talaga, mga besh. Wala eh. Priorities. I love my work more than my nice earrings and piercings.
Kathryn Bernardo made me get the piercings. Haaayy. I still love her though.
Do I recommend piercing? Yes, one pair only for girls. For boys, nah.
But to those who are wondering where I got them (hehe), I’ve had my first pair of lobe since I was a child. I don’t exactly remember where I got them. My second lobe piercings are from Unisilver which used an ear gun. It was more painful compared to needle piercing. My helix piercing was done by Iggy Boy Palma, a professional tattoo and piercing artist, at Whiplash Tattoo in BF Aguirre. Popular question: Which is safer and less painful? Definitely, needle piercing. I give it a 2/10 level of pain.
3. Bleaching my Hair
It was only this December that I finally decided to give my grown pixie a new look. I had the back part trimmed and gave in to the highlights club. At first, I was troubled by how it looked like after having it bleached. IT WAS SUPER LIGHT AND BRIGHT #ManokNaDilaw (yellowish orange). I got nervous because it looked bad on me, and I do not want to be called out again for another violation. So, I had the stylist layer the color with another coating which is gray.
Many people have asked how it was done. Let me share with you how simple it was. First, the stylist tied my hair in half pony tail. The loose part (untied) was the one that got bleached and colored gray. Finally, if you put the pony down, the light dye will be covered but is partially seen which is actually the idea of the style.
Was I happy about it? SUPER. I think this hairstyle is actually cool-subtle kind of rebel. It is not loud obvious, but it shows and stands out. Thank you, Pinterest.
Do I recommend it being done in a salon? Yes! Less hassle, and the stylists know better. However, if you have been coloring your own hair for years now, I guess you could do a DIY not to mention that it will be cheaper.
4. Getting Darker
What is wrong with being dark? NOTHING. But is there something wrong? Yes, many in this country believe that those who are fairer look better. Am I angry? No, but I am sad. Ganda ko kaya, char.
This year, I was blessed to have visited Boracay with my church friend. Despite it being crowded, it was a real paradise (Kala ko nga nasa abroad ako eh puro foreigners legit). The white sand was so fine just like flour. During the trip, I did bring with me sunscreen but not to make myself not get dark but to avoid sunburn. Yes. I was super ready to dive into the sea and just get all that rays on sunshine on my skin. When going on a beach trip, getting a tan is a must. I think tan looks pretty. To cut the long story short, I got darker intentionally lol.
Tumblr media
Why is this a risk? I believe I have never been as dark as that in the past four years. After some time, our family went to our province in Quezon. Many of our relatives were like, “Ang itim mo!” “You got dark!” (Ano pa po? Keep it coming!) Well, it’s true, but what is saddening is the facial expressions that accompanied their remarks. Am I mad? Of course, not! It is a risk I do not regret at all. I do not mind getting dark as long as I get dark while on a beach trip and not here in Manila heat.
5. A New Work Responsibility
Now is some serious talk. (Kabado me sa part na ituu) What has changed this academic year for me? First, I got new additional tasks that are more challenging. Second, I am advising both students and teachers already. Third, I’m doing OTs again.
What exactly is this that I am talking about? It’s hard to explain, but let me put it this way. I used to be just an extra in a scene. Now, I am a some sort of a minor character who is tasked to help the protagonist achieve the goal and slay the enemies.
Am I happy about the opportunity? BIG YES. Is it mostly fun doing the job? No (nako nako talaga). There are more emotional heartbreaks, mental breakdowns, and sleepless nights. I have learned things in a not so easy way like how words could mean differently to the company and to the customer and how honest and transparent I must be to our clients. There were moments when I think I knew better, and it was so difficult to submit to authority. In those times, I was able to prove again that only God will remain consistent by my side. He is my constant help and supporter who encouraged me to choose what is right rather than what is convenient.
Did this opportunity put me in a better situation? Triple yes. I admit that the journey is an uphil climb. There is absolutely zero shortcuts (hirap kung hirap mga kapatid). However, God surrounded me with people who helped me mature, be graceful under pressure, control my emotions, laugh despite the hurt, and clearly see the beauty of being a teacher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To end this post, I would like to just praise the God Almighty for His faithfulness in our lives. Getting through the 365 days is no joke. There were nights I thought of not going to work the next day because I had so many doubts and insecurities. Fortunately, I have only had one absence because I was sick. It was an ironman race to finish 2019. There were several curves and confusing directions which stressed me so much. Even though it was exhausting and tempting to give up, God pushed me to not stop moving until the end of the race (which of course I have not reached yet).
My 2019 is not as extravagant or controversially interesting as others’, but what I can say is that in those motivating experiences that happened in my year, I have earned a bigger faith in Him.
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!
v. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
v.7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY: INTO THE WILD
I had a wonderful chance to see the beauty in the wild during my photography class last semester. Here are some of my shots during the tour. Some of these photos were used as part of the photography exhibit that happened in my school.

BLOODY DEATH

Thought 20: Takbo, Bilis, Takbo!
This was a short story I wrote for my Filipino 103 class back in college. I stumbled upon this during my dig in my old files and I ought to share this with you. For the purpose of posting, I have made revisions on this.

Why Did We ‘Degauss’ Our Old Monitors?
A version of this post originally appeared on Tedium, a twice-weekly newsletter that hunts for the end of the long tail.
As you read this, you are likely in a room surrounded by screens. We all are.
They are everywhere, in giant, slab-like form; in moderate, tablet-like form; and in handheld sizes that fit in your pocket. But one nice thing about these screens is that they have continually improved in many ways, and as a result, you no longer need to do something that people with screens had to do back in the day: degaussing.
This was a fact-of-life thing with CRT monitors, and now, we don’t even have to think about it anymore. If you haven’t used a CRT monitor in, oh, 20 years, you probably forgot about it entirely.
So let’s discuss why we needed to do it … and why, in its own way, degaussing is friggin’ awesome.

Before we talk about degaussing, let’s talk about the guy the concept is named for
Born in 1777 in the Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (now part of modern-day Germany), Carl Friedrich Gauss showed a prodigal interest in mathematics (and learning in general—he knew a number of languages) that only intensified after the duke of Brunswick offered him financial assistance that allowed him to study at University of Göttingen.
Throughout his youth, he became interested in mathematical discoveries, and independently discovered a number of major mathematical constructs including the binomial theorem and the prime number theorem. His doctoral dissertation, on the fundamental theorem of algebra, was one of many attempts to prove the theorem during the period—and while it had gaps, it didn’t stop him from trying at least three other times in his lifetime.

Eventually, he pioneered new discoveries in the field of mathematics, with his first major one being the heptadecagon, a 17-sided polygon that can be produced geometrically, with a compass and straightedge. This polygon, a circle with many gaps along the edges, was a huge deal in part because of the fact that little, if any progress had been made in the creation of new polygons in more than 2,000 years.
From there, Gauss created a variety of mathematical theories, some of which proved the basis for technologies used in the modern day. A good example of this is the Gaussian function, a type of peak function that produces a bell-curve style effect. That function serves as the basis of something you likely use frequently if you’re a photo editor, Gaussian blur, which blurs an image by averaging out a group of nearby pixels along something called the Gaussian kernel. You don’t need to know how it works to use it, thanks to computers, but it essentially uses math to dull out the details of photographs.
Fitting for the life of someone so passionate about math, his life was full of discoveries that largely outlived him, and he ultimately became the most prominent mathematician of his era.
One of these discoveries, made during the later years of his life, ended up inspiring the concept of degaussing. Collaborating with William Weber while serving as director of the observatory at Göttingen University, the two worked closely on concepts of magnetism, leading at one point to an attempt to use bursts of magnetic field to speed up how quickly telegraphs were delivered. The project ultimately wasn’t seen through, but it did produce a working model that remains in active use as a memorial.
Gauss developed ways to measure magnetism and spent years focused on analyzing the power of magnetic force. It was one of the many acts of his life in which he did things that would prove important decades later.
In 1936, 81 years after his passing, he received the ultimate honor for a physicist—he had a unit of measure named after him: The gauss, or a measurement of the level of magnetic induction, or magnetic flux density. (Not to be forgotten is Weber, who has a unit of magnetic flux named after him.)
While officially deprecated from the metric system in favor of the tesla (named for the guy, not the motors), the gauss was the force that brought the term degaussing to the world.
So Carl Friedrich Gauss didn’t create degaussing, but in many ways, his work inspired its creation.
1897
The year Karl Ferdinand Braun, a German physicist, helped develop the first cathode ray tube, which was first used in an oscilloscope before it found its later, more prominent use as the basis of the television screen. Braun’s work, which won an early Nobel Prize in physics, first found use as the basis of a screen a decade later thanks to Russian professor Boris Rosing, who adapted a cathode ray to receive shapes transmitted over a mechanical scanner.

So what’s the deal with degaussing anyway?
You might be wondering, what does all this talk about degaussing have to do with TV sets?
In many ways, this comes down to the way the CRT works. At its most basic level, a cathode ray tube is a gigantic electron gun with the primary target being the screen that aims to show the images.
The YouTube channel Technology Connections, a Tedium favorite, has a great video describing how the CRT works in analog television sets, which you can watch here.
The thing with electrons, though, is that they are magnetically charged, and when magnets interact with one another, they cause problems. Think about that recent news story about how Apple’s MagSafe connectors in recent iPhones cause problems with pacemakers.
In many ways, magnets have a similar effect on CRTs—they screw the sets up. This is particularly the case with color, whose intensity can be negatively affected by magnets, basically confusing the set’s makeup of color in the process.
This clip of a guy going buck-wild with a neodymium magnet on a CRT is a great example of this in action. A strong magnet can force the electron gun to misfire, but on top of that, it shakes up the colors and makes them particularly trippy in a psychedelic sense. The black and white signal will generally return to position. The color won’t.
Now, this is where the need for degaussing comes in. Degaussing is the process of removing unwanted magnetic fields from an object, and they became particularly important in the era of the color TV.
In early color televisions produced before the mid-1960s or so, there was a need to periodically tune the screens that required the assistance of a TV repairman to help periodically tune the television to ensure the highest quality.
An unbylined syndicated 1966 article that ran in a number of newspapers described TV sets as “touchy” (and has some old-school gender politics in its lede, sadly) and said that older color television sets could take as long as an hour and a half to retune. The good news, however, is that technology was improving during this time and degaussers were often built into newer TV sets. (The whooshing effect that you might remember when an old TV set turned on? That was the degaussing coil.)
Still though, the piece noted that periodic technician work was necessary to keep the set working:
Although automatic or manual degaussers are part of better quality color television sets to demagnetize or counteract the earth’s magnetic field and cut down on impurities that louse up a picture, it may be necessary for the technician to degauss the set in a few months s after it is installed. He also 1 must be equipped to realign the picture so it will hold for at least another year.
The technology required to degauss a TV set was often promoted using terms like “color purifier” to help sell the idea that the sets looked significantly better than the old ones. The marketing messages around these sets became a bit over the top, to the point that Congressional hearings were held in the early 1970s to consider whether the FTC was doing enough to rein in misleading advertising claims. The long story short of all that: The technology used to purify the sets did work, but it was not unique by that point. Literally every color TV set under the sun had it.
And by the 1980s, computer monitors, which often dealt in far higher resolutions than television sets did, also had to rely on degaussing technology. The problem is, those old built-in degaussing coils don’t always work forever, which requires the use of external devices. (If you move a CRT around, it’s recommended that you degauss it.)
A bunch of them are on YouTube, and man, are they fun to watch:
As you can see in this first clip, a strong magnet totally ruined the effect of those color bars. And the degaussing coil built into the device, complete with its own button, wasn’t enough to fix it. But by carefully using an external degaussing coil—a round device that looks not unlike an old antenna—the user was able to slowly wave the coil around the screen and repair it. (These are on sale online, but not always in the large, round form.) The effect is dizzying to watch.
As the YouTube channel Arcade Repair Tips explains, this was also the case for old arcade machines, such as the 1942 machine used as a test subject.
But one does not necessarily need a special coil to pull off this trick. In this 2015 clip involving YouTube’s favorite game, the original Super Mario Bros., a neodymium magnet is used both to screw up the colors, and, by slowly waving back over a few minutes, to fix them.
But because this is Tedium and we must save the best for last, I share with you this video of a guy taking an electric drill to a computer screen. (Warning: it gets loud.) Not quite as effective as simply using a degaussing coil, but incredibly fun to watch.
If you were to show these videos to the Insane Clown Posse, they would call it a miracle.
“I’m happy to report that the remaining two servers on the AAR were delivered to ITIM and the hard drives were degaussed three times. Additionally, I followed up with Jonathan on replacing the old UPSs with the new ones.”
— Christopher Dehner, an information security employee for the Georgia Center for Elections Systems at Kennesaw State University, revealing that he had degaussed a number of hard drives with election-related data on them days after a lawsuit was filed regarding allegations of voter fraud around a 2016 special election. (A similar tactic was used by the attackers in a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California in 2015.) In the case of hard drives, degaussing is a tactic use to wipe the devices so the data can’t be read. One problem: It also destroys the hard drive in the process.
Of course, while degaussing was most prominently used in television sets, it is not the only place where the term came up.
During World War II, Germany started attacking warships at sea using large magnetic mines, which could detect the magnetic signatures of large warships and go off at that moment.
“It’s an inventive way to sink ships. Steel warships create an invisible magnetic signature as they sail,” writer James Simpson of the blog War is Boring wrote. “Magnetic mines detonate when they detect this signature, even when they’re moored tens of meters underwater.”
The Engineering and Technology History Wiki notes that one of the mines ended up being dropped near the British shore, where it was then taken apart and analyzed. This eventually led to the creation of a degaussing process that could be used to remove that magnetic signature from ships, “wiping” them in much the same way as a TV set would be “wiped” of unwanted magnetic interference only decades later.
Of course, ship degaussing was still a problem well past World War II: ”As late as the 1970s, merchant ships sailing in the English Channel, the Baltic Sea, and into German and Dutch ports, were ‘wiped’ to protect them from magnetic mines left over from World War II,” the wiki noted.
The magnetic pull of Carl Friedrich Gauss’ influence is strangely strong.

Gunmen Storm Abuja Orphanage Home, Abduct Seven Children, Guard, Housewives
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have invaded Rachael’s Orphanage Home opposite UBE Junior Secondary School in Naharati, Abaji Area Council, Abuja, abducting seven children.
According to The PUNCH, the attackers also abducted a security guard identified as Joseph Mathew, including two housewives; Rukaiyyat Salihu, and Suwaiba Momoh, during the attack on Saturday.
Tumblr media
The names of the abducted orphans were given as Elizabeth Andrew, Dayo Udeh, Jacob Ukpas, Melody Ijeh, Benard Itim, Issac Mathew and Laruba Emmanuel.
A resident of the area told journalists that the gunmen, who came in large numbers, stormed the orphanage home on Saturday around 1am.
He said: “The gunmen came in large numbers and heavily armed. However, they did not shoot as they carried out the operation quietly before they proceeded to the neighbours’ houses.”
The spokesman for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Maryam Yusuf, confirmed the incident.
Yusuf said security agencies had been deployed to the forest to rescue the victims.
She said, “We are working hard to rescue them and apprehend the perpetrators. Already, we have rescued one of the hostages and we want to assure that the rest would also be rescued unhurt.”
