RVSN x Elgato - Wave Panels

I have once again teamed up with my friends at Elgato to recreate their Wave Panels for The Sims 4! Recreating the IRL features of the Wave Panels, the in-game version give you limitless customization options and can be configured to suit any space. Create multiple constellations, design unique shapes, and easily mix or swap out colors to personalize your setup.

The hexagonal profile comes in two styles, two colors, and 12 angle installations. With custom slotting, these panels will only slot to themselves and let you easily move your custom panel creations as one object. As you place them in build/buy mode, they will randomly change orientation to create a unique design. You can further customize them in live mode by rotating each panel individually.

When you use these in combination with The Sims 4 Elgato Creator Set to create content, the panels will improve the quality of your sim's produced media.

Wanna put this somewhere as I could find no resources about this online and maybe this helps someone.

My partner bought me a stream deck XL for Christmas! I've also been into recolouring and personalising my tools recently, and had a great time recolouring my other stream deck:

So what do I do when a loved one buys me an expensive gift? Vandalise it immediately in the name of 💜self expression💜

But where the smaller device has an easily removed faceplate, the XL did not. There were no screws hidden away, just a very tiny seam separating the plate from the rest of the device. It wasn't clear if it was glued down or otherwise sealed. And it seems nobody else online wanted to risk their expensive device finding out, just for the aesthetic.

But this girl *lives* for the aesthetic.

So I bring knowledge from the frontier, the faceplate is only held on by plastic clips, 4 on each long side, 3 on each short side.

The only tool I found was thin and strong enough to pry at the edges was this thing from ifixit

If you're patient and extremely careful you can lift one clip at a time. I did the bottom long side first (thinking any plastic damage would be less visible) then each short side, then the top I was able to push out.

The faceplate is plastic (unlike the regular SD which is surprisingly metal) so I'll be doing some sanding and priming work before spraying but yeah! I'm just happy I got it off and wanted to let anyone else who wanted to remove their XL faceplate cleanly know that it is possible with some patience and the right tool 💜

discord’s weird directory problem

I was setting up a button on my stream deck to bring discord forward today, when I noticed the weird naming scheme of the folder discord is installed to

for those who don’t know, discord has two main executables: “update.exe” and “discord.exe.” update.exe is what you run when you launch discord; it is contained in its own, static directory, in appdata.

discord.exe, the client itself, on the other hand, is contained within the app-[version] folder, with [version] corresponding to your clients current version number.

the thing is - programs update, you know? the version number would change. if i had updated discord, any references to that executable in THAT folder would basically lead nowhere.

this presents an interesting problem: what happens when a program needs to refer to the “discord.exe” program specifically?

I wanted to have discord pulled to the front if it was running, and to be opened if it wasn’t. At first I tried running “Update.exe” directly, which didn’t seem to pull the client forward - it would just do nothing. 

So, then came time for a script! I looked online and found a StackOverflow query with a similar issue, and borrowed the code from it. After that, I just constructed the path with the information I had found and used “os.startfile” to run the directory.

Cool! Problem solved! Run the python script upon pressing the button, and bam, dedicated discord button that has been future-proofed for when the client changes versions.

of course, halfway through writing this post, I realized “Hey- Why does the Discord shortcut ALSO bring the running program forward?” 

I took a look into what the shortcut actually ran and realized I had wasted my time entirely

Turns out, all I had to do was slap an argument onto Update.exe, which would then do the exact same thing as just running Discord.exe directly.

the moral of the story is don’t do things at 5am
