ESO SPOILER WARNING!!!
i do not. like ithelia's design or necessarily how she was incorporated into the story. HOWEVER i think conceptually she is an interesting idea. so. here is my take on her (in sketch form):
Tumblr media
>i envision the magne-ge as all humanoid but weirdly alien looking. they are stars that embody complex concepts like emotions. i feel visually it should be played up more
>butterflies because she is supposedly the prince of paths/fate. specifically CHANGING fate. so its a "butterfly effect" motif in this way
>multiple eyes: she had an angel theme in her og design that i think was done poorly but thinking on weird biblically accurate angel angle here could work well. the multiple eyes ties in the butterfly motif as well as the angel theme. AND the multiple eyes i think thematically tie her in more with hermaeus mora.
>the jagged mirror crystals probably mean. something. but tbh i dont like them and think they go with exactly 0 of the rest of her design so i just cut them out. i think reflective butterfly wings showing different possibilities with every flutter is more interesting.

You all know Darien is probably going to show up again at some point, correct? It's not just hope. ZoS has been sprinkling breadcrumbs (pun intended) since Summerset. They wouldn't do that for no reason or to tease us (unless they're somehow legitimately evil, which say what you want, but that isn't the case).
Spoilers galore for elder scrolls in general under the cut (Main plot, Wrothgar,Elsweyr,Greymoor,Summerset
Blackwood,High Isle, and Necrom.)
Just look at Coldharbor. What happened after we "lost" Darien. We found clues that he was still alive. Including a letter written by him in Wrothgar. So it only makes sense to me that they would do so again.
Darien and/or the events of Summerset have also been referenced in every.single.chapter since Summerset.
That, to my knowledge, hasn't happened with any other characters, especially not consecutively.
In Elsweyr, you can find a deceased khajiit, and nearby there is a note, describing how Meridia was looking for a new vessel that wouldn't betray her.
In Greymoor, Gabrielle Benele says she still believes that Darien is still out there somewhere and she is determined to find him. Not only that, but there is a Meridia quest where she has apparently turned her gaze from her faithful. Now Daedric princes' attention and favor can come and go, and I don't like Meridia, believe me, but she doesn't seem like the kind of prince that would turn her back if something bigger didn't have her attention.
In Blackwood, there is a random event when you talk to a wizard and he can summon a lost spirit. One of those spirits can be an Auroran Knight with Dawnbreaker in his hilt. It's not confirmed to be Darien. But...come on. It's him.
In High Isle, Lady Arabelle references his father specifically. Not Darien specifically, but there are other generals, and captains they could have referenced. They chose him because they knew our ears would perk up at the name "Gautier". His father had a pretty forgettable role,Darien, did not.
In Necrom, if you played through the Summerset plot, you can speak to Naryu about the events of Summerset.
I don't feel like they would talk about him (or the events of Summerset) this much if he wasn't coming back at some point or at least confirmed to be alive in some way. Not to mention whenever he's brought up in streams, they are pretty tight-lipped about him, and they've never specifically said he' won't return.
Summerset was a big event. So if we do see Darien again, it's going to be big.

Regarding the reblog about Azura/Ithelia: this book doesn't have direct references regarding either of them, but it does depict trapping of Meridia in the Void and just some of the language used makes me go 👀
And it's also a khajiiti myth, and I love khajiiti mythology

Wow yeah, you weren't kidding. The whole prism of light and mirror imagery does make sense with Meridia's whole thing with light, but also with the direction they seem to be going with Ithelia's motifs the amount of references to mirror shards is interesting. Idk when this book was released so I don't know if that would be a purposeful reference or not though
Also, unrelated, but I dig this part of that book a lot

Maybe I’m being really dense and overthinking it, but….Massive spoilers for everything, of course
In Elsweyr, we can find this note that talks about Meridia looking for a new knight who won’t betray her. Was Darien’s betrayal just the note where he says not to trust Meridia?

Honestly I love this contract that Hermaeus Mora makes the Vestige sign in the Necrom prologue quest, and I also love that he specifically states that there’s a clause somewhere in there that prevents him from going behind the Vestige’s back to do something that could harm them OR ordering them to act against their own best interests.
I mean, look at this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in my head, this means one of two things:
1) It’s Dragonborn-related. Given that we’ve had a whole year of Skyrim nostalgia already, complete with vampiric threat and tons of references to TESV in both the game itself and the shop, it’s safe to say that the devs know a high percentage of their playerbase have played Skyrim, which means they’ve also played Dragonborn, and so they decided they had to write that clause into the contract. I imagine their thought process went something like “Yeah no, they’ve witnessed that guy simply eviscerating several people he no longer deemed useful, they’re not gonna want their characters to work with him. Better give them some security.” (Note that despite this, nothing is stated about what happens after the contract ends.)
Or 2) It might also be a storytelling thing. Assuming that Hermaeus Mora has been watching the Vestige for quite some time, he knows about their experiences with daedric princes and entering into agreements with them. Which have been utter shit so far, really. Or, more specifically, Hermaeus Mora knows the Vestige has a Meridia Allergy™, and that they have been specifically warned by Darien (who is canonically AT LEAST a close friend) not to enter into such arrangements, and so Mora writes this clause into the contract, also providing some sense of security for the Vestige. (He can do whatever he wants after the contract ends, of course, which might have been deliberate or an oversight by the writers.)
Personally I think 1) is hilarious, but I hope it’s 2), because if Mora bases his assumption (that the Vestige would require proof that they won’t be tricked) on them witnessing another prince doing just that to someone very close to them, it would mean that they haven’t forgotten about my favorite bread man.

If I had a nickel for every time one of Alfred Molina's characters turned to good and sacrificed themselves in the end, I'd have two nickels. It's not a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
