Can I talk briefly about the dramaturgy of a conversation?

And how fucking difficult it is? How it ebbs and flows and starts and stops and goes on tangents ? How you want to get your characters from emotional point A to emotional point B to emotional point C, but you need to lead them step by step? You need to let it breathe and sit and figure out why they'd say this and how they'd say it, and under what circumstances, because most people don't just come out and say shit? You need subtext and body language and shared jokes and laughter and reaction.

And the more shit your characters are at actually communicating, the more difficult this is.

All this to say, I wrote about 500 words of a conversation today, and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. And I'm not even a third of a way to where they, you know, actually say, like, anything at all.
