April 5, 2020: First post in forever! I am slowing getting used to working from home. I’ve been journaling a lot lately, and have found it is a great way to help manage my the anxiety and uncertainty I’ve been feeling lately.

August Spread
I’m really looking forward to the last month of true summer! I fly to London on August 31 and begin my study abroad program so there is a lot to prepare for but also a lot to enjoy until then. Anticipation is part of the journey! Here’s to fresh strawberries, Hong Kong style boba, warm nights, binge watching Star Wars, and finishing the books that have been waiting for me to come back to them all year long. 🍓

About an hour ago, I found out I could split my iPad screen between two apps. This gave me a bit more motivation to do my accounting homework! I might just use OneNote for solving my homework problems instead of paper from now on for the quarter, but we’ll see if I actually follow through with that...
Also, I’ve been using Forest a bit more lately. Hopefully it actually ends up looking like a forest soon. :b

3.31.19 || my new bullet journal method!!
Hey guys!! You may have heard me hinting at a new and improved bujo style? Well this is it! I decided to try out what @eintsein did and bring my bujo down to its bare minimum. Lately I too have been feeling overwhelmed with the idea of making yet another over-the-top aesthetic spread, something that usually takes me an hour to do. In February, I only made one weekly spread in my bujo cuz I didn’t have the energy to create any more. Come March, I knew that while I loved bullet journaling, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with making pretty spreads every week, especially since I had to make a monthly one as well. So, I decided to do this! I made it completely black and white (and grey) at first, although as the month continued I realized that for it to function properly it actually needed a bit of color. I added a mood tracker, and allowed myself to be creative with it- but minimally. Drawing clouds is really easy, requires far less effort than the plant theme of last month.
And… I’m super happy with it!! It’s definitely far more functional than artsy, but still manages to look ok aesthetic-wise (even if my picture taking environment isn’t the greatest rn LOL). I feel like I’m actually able to make my bujo do what I want it to do bc I’m not also worried about the art aspect. For example I have really liked keeping the events and to-do’s distinct yet in the same area, and I’ve liked being able to add time blocks as well. Previously, I used to sacrifice one or 2 parts of my weeklies. Now, I’m finding my bujo to be at its most functional and least stressful! honestly I think if anyone is struggling with their bullet journal they should do the same: strip it down to its barest functions, decide what part of it u need, what u want to add, and what u should get rid of. So thank u @eintsein for ur post about this, it helped a lot :)

1.Learn the most common words of your target language first. The 300 most frequently used words represent about 65% of the words of a language and the 2000 most common give you about 90%. So there’s no point in wasting your time learning more complicated words when you begin your language learning journey.
2.Use flash cards! They’re simple and effective. What’s not to love? I suggest making digital flashcards because they’re quicker to make and you’d be able to use them anywhere.
3.Practice often. Learning vocabulary means being able to say and write the word as well as recognize the word when you see or hear it. So even after you’ve learned words, seek out opportunities where you can apply them in a real life setting. This means chatting in your target language online through video chat or text message or in real life through a conversation club. You may even write journal entries in your target language.
4.Use spaced repetition. You retain information better when you learn it periodically. So rather than spending half an hour review your flashcards and then not touching them for a month, it’s better to review then in shorter intervals every day or every other day.
5.Read children’s books. Reading is another great way of learning words and recognizing them in a context. For beginners, children’s books in your target language are a great way to start. When you get better, start reading your favorite books or even the news in the language you’re learning.
