What are your top 3 places you'd recommend visiting in Poland that aren't tourist spots :o

oh, you are asking a terrible pagan soul, and you will get a terribly pagan answer.

first, as my heart would not let me prioritise anything else: mountains. go to the Carpathians, go to Sudety, go to Góry Świętokrzyskie. go with an open and eager heart, and follow the steps of our ancestors to Babia Góra, see Tatry, visit Ślęża, Łysa Góra! read a lot, and you will find trails far from the tourists’ eyes, and the day when they will be nearly empty. remember to greet every person you pass, and be kind - to the mountains, to others, and to yourself.

bathe in creeks and wild streams, lie on fields and listen to the song of our good old friend wind. eat local food, pet local dogs, smile at sheep and cows and they will smile back.

you can stay away from places such as Zakopane (it will be crowded, it’s best to go there off season because it is absolutely worth it) and Morskie Oko (again, it’s best off tourist season, you can always choose a different trail to Dolina Pięciu Stawów) and instead stay in the wilderness, or choose smaller villages to see.

follow rivers and streams, and go to Bieszczady, go to Puszcza Białowieska. remember - little villages, not bigger tourist ones. see old forests, breathe in their ancient murmur. read about small folk museums and skanseny on your trail, and see those. nearly forgotten ruins of castles and cottages - there are many of those far from popular destinations, and they long to be remembered. go to Lanckorona, go to Czorsztyn, go to Zydranowa, go to Pszczyna, go to Grzybowo, Mirów. little places with a lot of history. you will see old wooden churches that smell like times long before us, and paths so trodden you can nearly hear the steps of our dead.

second, visit graveyards. many of them are left out by trips and tourists, even though they’re full of history and beauty. pray for those who have no one to pray for them anymore. big ones such as Rakowicki or Powązki, but also Pęksowy Brzyzek, Pszczyna necropolis and countless surrounding Silesian cemeteries, Lublin’s Lipowa necropolis, Częstochowa, Cracow’s cemeteries. anywhere you go, visit the graveyard. I could talk about them forever - tell me where you will be visiting, and I’ll tell you which graveyards to see in 50km radius.

third, even though it is more or less a tourist spot already - come to Silesia. see our mines, our museums, our history and our art. about Silesia and things worth visiting here - some barely known - I could also talk for hours. see Guido, see Luiza, see the trail of Donnersmarcks, see Chudów and learn of the Silesian Cinderella, go to Złoty Potok. Olsztyn, Ogrodzieniec. see old familoki, go to the Nikiszowiec museum. Silver mine in Tarnowskie Góry. see how wonderful it is here, but how most of it is falling apart - we need more people in love with our region so it can be alive again. we’re doing better and better!

hardly a top three, I am aware - just a lot of rambling, as usual, I do apologise. perhaps at least one place of those I listed will be less of a tourist spot and a new wonderful discovery.

  Myślę sobie - w smartfonie mam ultraszeroko i to sobie strzelę, bo za mną już tylko ogrodzenie, za którym kiedyś była aglomerownia, a teraz zakład produkujący wełnę mineralną. Wówczas na ciele zaczynam czuć miejscowe mikro ukłucia, czy więc jakieś drobinki tego syfu przenikają mi z powietrza pod ubranie, czy to jedynie takie złudzenie, a ciało pobudza jakieś we mnie fantomy? I teraz to zdziwienie, gdy kątem oka widzę, że z drzwi obok wychodzi dziewczyna. Wychodzi w jakimś celu, w swojej codzienności, przyzwoicie ubrana podąża przed siebie. A ja stoję jak nomen omen zamurowany i zadaję sobie pytanie jak to możliwe, że tu wciąż mieszkają rodziny?! Wyciągnę jednak lustrzankę i powtórzę to z 24rką, będzie pasowało do krótkiego zestawu w czerni-bieli o podobnych “anomaliach”
