III.  i will write with duplicates, ocs, and x-overs! i treat every plot and muse as their own separate verses, unless discussed otherwise (that is to say, i do not have over-arching plot/narrative on this blog and i do not practice mains and affiliations). because of this, i would very much prefer plotting over memes. even with canon ovw characters, lore is very vague and wishy-washy and there’s much room for interpretation and differences. come to me info-dumping me about your character and i will try and find a way where i can fit :p If I have followed your blog and have not yet reached out to plot, i either immensely enjoy your writing or i have yet to formulate a proper way to reach out; the latter of which can take a bit of time, so i will appreciate any and all patience :pray:

III - A. if there is no biography on your blog in regards to your muse, i may not follow back.

III - B. While I am duplicate friendly, I would politely request that if you ship your muse with a duplicate cowboy that we do some plotting before hand. My personal joy is finding threads/directions that have not yet been taken and exploring them to diversify the experience, which includes exploring other verses if need be.

IV.  this blog will contain graphic depictions of violence, drinking, and smoking – due to my realizing it too late, there are threads and images that are not tagged for blood. if these are things that discomfort you, i would highly recommend not following this blog :(

V. you can call me tek, i am 25+, i am here to be a complete and utter clown. i’m sorely lacking in graphics and icons but please do not let this stop you if this is something you utilize!  i also use the beta editor and, due to simple preference, will be avoiding writing with blogs that use the legacy formatting in long term threading. i write a lot on the phone and the legacy format is incredibly unfriendly towards post snipping; in the best interest of creating an ease for myself, i am going to begin enforcing this rule. 

VI. i do not intend on writing smut. please respect this, thank you! as somebody who has always had aroace tastes in fiction, i am more obsessed with friendships and complicated relationships as opposed to exclusively romantic/sexual ones; i find it incredibly difficult to insta-ship and trying to develop dynamics that are based off of flirting alone (platonic flirting is easier for me to do and something i will write him doing; if your character is not sexually attracted to him and if i do write a line towards your muse in this nature, please do not feel as if i am forcing a ship on you; i am very content and happy with my platonic relationships!). i do think cole has a healthy libido and can be quite a bit of a charmer when he wants, but it’s really just a writer problem on my end. 

VII. depending on the timeline, my writing will address cole as jesse mccree or cole cassidy following the name that he was using at the time. for simplicity’s sake, he will simply go as cole cassidy for any interactions outside of overwatch. because of the sensitivity of this topic, i will generally not follow overwatch blogs first. i’m adaptable upon request otherwise. if you have explicitly stated that you do not want to follow or write with blogs using that name (and all the power to you, there is no bad blood), i will hardblock in order to avoid future confusion and stepping any toes.

VIII. i’ve been a para roleplayer - (with a past avg of ~200 words - key words being past tense lol - i genuinely don’t think i can consistently do 200 these days); i would rather avoid novella, semi-lit, and literate threads as my energy levels are just absolute dog. my lengths can greatly vary to what the thread calls for, and thus i’ll be just as flexible with you. just, y'know, as long as we aren’t sending one-liners to para’s. chat rps + crack are always fun, and i’ll gladly participate!

IX. i respond to whatever i see that has been responded to (this includes ask answers - my default is to usually make threads out of them since i grew up with those acting as starters back in the day lkjsldfa; feel free to inform me if that is something you would prefer me not to do if it is not spoken in in your rules!) if you would like to drop a thread by simply not answering to it, i have no issue of this!

X. i’m slow, i’m so so slow, and i’m sorry - i have 2 jobs :’) my dashboard can also be quite quick at times and i will miss a good number of my mutuals that are located in different time zones and won't see posts until weeks later by chance of them coming up in my for-you.

This game is very flexible, adaptable to various ages and groups of kids, which means that it can be easily played in every family or kids’ gatherings. It’s not only silly game, but educational as well It develops kids’ attention, leadership and listening skills. It starts off with what should've been a normal mission. Get in, get the payload and get out.

It sure doesn't stay that way. It turns into a large scale bloodbath. many are spread out fighting or healing, and some others are unaccounted for. Including Sachiko.

McCree goes out to search for her and, after an explosion, finds her in really bad shape.

Hey body has burns on it, her suit is torn, there's a large chunk of metal in her chest, part of her lower jaw has burnt off and there's a giant chunk of her head missing.

McCree insists he can get Winston to fix her, but she knows she's going to die and begs McCree to comfort her in her final moments. She dies in his arms, asking if she did good.

Later, when he gets back, alone, he takes out a small box. Inside is a ring. after that mission, he would've proposed.

summary:  The Shimada family reunion is the hottest event in town. Guests include family, family friends and the like. Hmmmm... My favorite Overwatch characters would probably have to be Mccree and Reaper, at least for right now anyway. But, In game, I main D.va (lol).

My favorite fanfic trope is Yandere and cute fluff stories. I know, Those two are on two far sides of the spectrum. Ive always wanted to do headcannons but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet!

Ill do a story abt a reader whose sick and Mccree is taking care of them! A/N: I wanted the fic to get all of the cute himbo Mccree that I have stuck in my brain… lol

Rolling over to the far side of the bed, you reach for a cold glass of water to soothe the itch in your throat. Jesse had left a glass there for you the night before. He had tried to force you to drink it but you put up a good fight. So, he decided to leave it for whenever you felt ready.

The two of you had no idea how you had got a cold. It could’ve been from you never wearing a jacket outside, or maybe even from the old lady that was coughing in that one grocery store the other day. But you don’t really know.

Hearing heavy footsteps from down the hall, you quickly sit the glass down and pretend to be asleep. Jesse was always serious when it came to you not feeling well. He’s always suffocating when it comes to your health, making you drink soup and sleep the day away until you’re better.

Quietly, you hear the door creak open. The sound of glass clinks nearby, causing you to open your eyes out of curiosity.

Not to your surprise, A large, steaming bowl of chicken soup sits on the nightstand.

“Morning, sunshine.” Jesse drawls, placing his hands on his hips as he looks down at you smiling.

Squinting your eyes, you look towards him and begin to stretch. “Good morning, love.” You say, with a sore throat still present in your voice.

Jesse feels around on the bed, and sits next to your lying form. Softly grabbing your head with both hands, he presses a kiss on your forehead and slowly rubs his thumbs across your cheek.

Ruining the tender moment, Jesse whispers into the side of your neck, “It’s time for breakfast~” in a singing tune.

Chicken soup has been the only thing on your menu for the past two days. Jesse has been keeping you on strict bed rest as he watches over you. You’ve begun to grow sick of the soup. And how much he enjoys teasing you.

Jesse reaches over towards the nightstand and brings the fragrant bowl to your face. He begins blowing on a steaming spoonful, and then lifts it up to your mouth.

“Say ahh-” Jesse chuckles. He knows how much you hate this. Relenting to his smile, you open wide, allowing him to shove the warm spoon into your mouth.

“Mmm?” Jesse asks gleefully. Struggling to hide a smile, you reply. “…Yum.”

This painful process continues on for a few minutes. Once the bowl is empty, Jesse sits it on the nightstand once again. Instead of leaving you in the room by yourself, he begins setting out clothes for you. As if you were actually going somewhere…

“What are you doing?” you question. His large form is currently hunched over, digging through the clothes in your dresser. You watch tentatively as he unfolds a different white t shirt and lays across the bed.

Before he answers, he takes a moment to dump the stray clothes he threw about the room, back into the drawer. “I’m getting you a change of clothes.” He declares.

“Well, are we goin’ somewhere?” You ask excitedly, practically ripping the sheets off of yourself as you stumble out of bed.

“Well, you’re gettin’ a bath before anything.” Jesse holds back a laugh before bringing two fingers to his face, covering his nose.

“I DO NOT STINK!” You yell, throwing a pillow across the room at him. Of course he dodges just in time.

“Give yourself a sniff sweetheart!” Jesse says through a flood of laughter.

Grabbing the collar of your shirt, you try to catch a whiff of whatever has Jesse in tears in front of you.

And god do you stink.

Armpit must and sweat is the only thing that comes to mind after you smell the inside of your shirt. Lifting your face from your collar, you avoid making eye contact with Jesse.

You never stopped to consider that two days on bedrest had the ability to make you smell so bad. You didn’t think you smelled horrible, but Jesse made it seem like your underarms could kill with the way he’s hollerin’ in front of you with his hands on his knees. He must’ve read your facial expression, because you hadn’t even had the chance to defend yourself.

Trying to hold onto any amount of pride you had left, you fold your arms and say “It has been a while since I’ve had a bath.”

Jesse wipes his tears as his laughing fit calms down. “Yeah, I’ll get the water started, and you can look for those shorts you like so much.”

When you hear the bath water finish filling up the tub, you grab a fresh towel and wash cloth from the closet and make your way down the hallway. Jesse is standing next to the door with a stern look on his face. Like he’s planning on making sure you actually get in the water.

Returning his serious glare, you walk past him and close the bathroom door behind you. Jesse had laid out different bottles of lotions, soaps and bath salts for you to use. At times he could be a real pain in your ass, but sometimes… sometimes he could be the most thoughtful person you’d ever known.

Relentlessly, he had been by your side every time you caught a cold. He always made sure you got enough rest and never asked for anything in return.

After ridding yourself of your dirty clothes and throwing them in the corner, you stepped into the warm bubbly water. You reached for the lavender bath salt container and poured a generous amount into the bathwater with you.

After taking your time to clean your body, you stepped out of the tub and began drying off your body with your towel.

You spend extra time to brush your teeth in the sink before stepping out of the foggy bathroom, with Jesse sitting outside waiting on you.

Picking up your speed speed, Jesse grabs your wrist and pull you close. “Lemme smell.”

Struggling against him, you attempt pushing him away to no avail. “I don’t need you to check me Jesse!” He pulls you into a tight hug, squeezing you against his chest and makes an exaggerated inhale through his nose and then let’s you go of your damp form.

Gasping for breath, You scramble away from him and make your way towards the living room and turn on a familiar TV show. Jesse slowly follows behind you and collapses on the seat next to you.

You lean into his shoulder as the two of you begin watching a new episode. “Thanks for everything…” you quietly say into his arm. You feel his body shift towards you as his palm rubs against the side of his face. He pulls your face closer to his and places a prolonged kiss on your forehead once again.

Both of your bodies move closer together as you look back to the tv screen.

“You’re welcome sweetheart…”

I have mixed feelings on the changing of Jesse McCree's name, but I will say that I think it's entirely performative.

I don't believe the changing of a name truly punishes an abuser or empowers a victim. I think reality and fiction were separated enough that players did not combine the character and the abuser. The choice to change the name, in my opinion, treats fiction as reality and forever combines the two. I would argue that the changing of this name brings more power and recognition to the abuser as players will now be constantly reminded of why the name was changed. Of course we shouldn't forget these events, but there are better ways they could have handled this by keeping reality reality and fiction fiction.

I understand the decision and will have to respect it, but once again I believe it to be performative and meaningless. Activision Blizzard could have supported victims by firing the abusers earlier, by paying for damages or financially supporting victims, by donating to charities that support abuse victims, by more openly taking accountability and showing a more solid and meaningful change.

But instead they decide to change the name of a fictional character who lives in a fictional world and has no connection other than a name. A rather common name, I might add. A name that a majority of fans will continue to use. This is a bandaid on a bullet hole.

Jesse would be the doting and silently dangerous type of yandere. One moment, he’s very caring and catering to his muse’s needs and the next he’s breaking something in anger.

He tries not to upset his “little dove”, as he calls them, but sometimes they push the wrong buttons or get on his nerves.

Jesse is the type of person who, if he were to take someone against their will, would easily become the object of Stockholm syndrome. 

He cannot keep his hand off, always needing that physical contact and reassurance. 

He’s good at getting what he wants, from using a caring, genuine persona to poking at old wounds and antagonizing his muse.

Jesse constantly finds excuses to be near them, if he doesn’t live with them or keep them at home.

He is not the stalker type, being very blunt and obvious about his wishes and presence. He tries to be friendly and approachable as much as possible, genuinely believing his actions to be normal and just.

Never leaves his muse completely alone. Jess would be there when most and least expected, though not always in person. He’s quite good at surveillance techniques.

He doesn’t usually pose much of a threat to anyone, but he will not hesitate to make his anger or distaste known. 

It is not pretty when he starts to break things or cut off his muse’s contacts. He wouldn’t kill anyone, simply break some phones, pay people to delete emails, etc.

Very good at making his muse feel both isolated and alone when he needs to. 

Jesse is very emotionally manipulative.

Ｒｅａｐｅｒ

Unlike Jesse, Gabriel is dangerous in every way.

He would not let his muse roam around, preferring to be the type of yandere who takes control of every and any situation. He would quickly find an excuse for his muse to move in with him and then, soon after, a way to keep them there.

Gabriel is both a physical and emotional threat, easily shifting blame onto his muse even when they are not the guilty party. He doesn’t hesitate to make them feel small and useless, liking their dependence on him.

Physically, he almost never follows through with his threats, but he often makes his muse think that another step out of line will come at the cost of pain.

Prefers the use of softer, less intense methods of punishment on his muse, however. He may have a controlling, manipulative nature but he still believes he cares for his muse.

While he may stalk his muse at first, even leaving notes or gifts of affection, he takes the first opportunity he can to obtain the person of his obsession.

He stalks family members and friends, ensuring everything is in order all hours of the day.

He is discrete in his movements and actions, making sure his muse has daily contact with the outside world and those close to them. He can’t afford someone ruining their connection and relationship, no matter how much he doesn’t like the idea of sharing.

Much more intense about surveillance than Jesse.

While he’s not willing to show love and pure adoration easily, he expects it from his muse.

Jamison is much more distanced than either McCree or Reaper, preferring to observe and love from afar.

He can’t have his muse hurting themself around his projects and explosives, so having them close to him wasn’t an option.

He would be very good at keeping things controlled from afar. Well placed letters of adoration, small gifts, and anonymous food deliveries always kept his muse guessing who he was and drew their attention from the “stalker” possibility.

Equally strategic threats and promises of hurt would ward off an potential threats to his relationship with his muse, including family and friends.

Despite being called a lunatic and an empty-headed fool, Jamison is smarter than most people. He would cover his tracks and plan everything out to the t to avoid mishaps.

Jamison would definitely be the kind of person to stalk out in the open, dressing and acting the part of a normal citizen so he could get closer to and interact with his muse in public. 

In the shadows, he definitely is the type to take photos and create albums of “moments” he’s shared “with” them.

Representation in Overwatch

Gender

Overwatch does a good job of representing genders, including those who not fall under traditional identities. 

D. Va., a tank hero and one of the main protagonists, is one of many cisgender female characters included and represented in the game. All these characters use she/her pronouns, as confirmed by the creators. 

Hanzo, a mercenary archer and defensive hero, is one of a large number of cisgender male characters represented in the game, using he/him pronouns. 

Lynx Seventeen, an Omnic hacker, was confirmed to be gender neutral, preferring they/them pronouns, by Michael Chu, the senior designer for lore and story in Overwatch, and the game's lead writer. Although this was the first confirmed non-binary character, it still adds to the representation incorporated into the game.

Ashe, a damage hero and the leader of the Deadlock Gang, has been rumored to be gender-fluid, but there has been no confirmation.

Sexuality

Although there is a large number of characters in overwatch with unconfirmed sexualities, unless some questionable digging is involved, the game openly has characters representing the major, or seemingly most common, sexualities. 

Soldier 76, a damage hero in the game, was given the label of a gay man after an episode of the short-series lore was released revealing an old boyfriend of his. It was later then confirmed by the writers of the game. 

Ana, a mid to long-range Support sniper, capable of healing at any range while also maintaining a fair level of damage output, is a confirmed heterosexual woman.

Junkrat, a demolitionist and an international criminal, is a rumored amongst the fandom of Overwatch to be asexual. There is no official confirmation, but it has been said that his only love is for destruction. 

Tracer was the first official LGBT Overwatch character, announced back in 2016. She is a a gay women, revealed in an episode containing her backstory. 

There are countless other characters with speculated sexualities, however, Blizzard seems hesitant to confirm or deny any of them after they experienced backlash following the Soldier 76 reveal concerning its relevance to the game. 

Race/Ethnicity/Nationality

Racial diversity is clearly a conscious choice for the Overwatch game writers, and while there is some controversy concerning specific representations it is lacking, there are many that they do cover. 

Sombra, a powerful hacker and my personal favorite character to play in the game, is from the fictional city of Dorado, set in Mexico. 

Symmetra, a damage and support hero, came from an area of desperate poverty in Hyderabad, India. She is originally from Utopaea, India, and for a larger area this character provides representation for is those with conditions on the spectrum, as she was confirmed by the creators to have autism. 

Lucio is a Brazilian support hero from Rio de Janerio, Brazil. 

Doomfist is a powerful defense hero from Oyo, Nigeria. 

Zarya is a Russian tank hero form Novanskoye, Russia.

Hanzo is a Japanese assassin from Hanamura, Japan and one of the main protagonists in the game. 

There are more, these are just a small example of the representation displayed throughout the game.

Age

The ages of the characters in overwatch is vastly varied, although the depiction of them is admitibly contributes far less to the representation. 

Orisa, although a robot, is only a month old.

Wrecking Ball, a hamster, is 14 years old. 

D. Va is 19.

Sombra is 30 years old.

McCree, a largely controversial character, is 37 years old.

Roadhog is 48 years old. 

Torbjorn is 57 years old.

Sigma is 62 years old.

Hey there, I have a writing question. How do you go about finding or picking names for your characters? Especially sci-fi/fantasy characters like your ocs? Is there a trick to it? Also, if you have any resources for this and tag them, I'd love to take a look at them if that's OK with you.

Well the process varies from character to character. When it comes to naming my own characters, I am a big fan of like... Dickensian naming conventions where the name audibly fits for the character, but also thematically fits for the character. I also like names that can kind of play off of each other. My naming process is a a combination of browsing baby name websites and... also my own intuition.

When it came to my Overwatch fankids, a lot of the names kind of cropped up organically--like in Marti's case, I wanted a name that sounded both French and Spanish, so that obviously meant a romance-language name. You have like, a longer, more feminine full name with 'Martina' but then you shorten it to a cute, practical 'Marti.' So like, she's pretty, she's feminine but also the name Martina means 'Servant of Mars' which is kind of a reference to her having a bumpier origin story than the other fankids. Marti, in my head sounded like a nickname you could easily hear in a French or Spanish language film--a little androgynous, a little streetwise, but there's also Marty McFly in the Back to the Future series, so you sort of have that "relatable everyman" element to it--someone with a good heart who is very adaptive.

For Jaime it was largely me going with "I want a name that is clearly Spanish, but also plays off of McCree's name, Jesse." So you have a little bit of that visual association with "Jesse James" but it's Spanish so y'know it's pronounced "High-may."

Rei, as I've said before, is a name that's both Hebrew and Japanese, so it fit for my "Mercy is Jewish" headcanon and also I like Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Akasha's name is a reference to the Hindu concept of "Akasha" which means "Space" or "Aether" so that's kind of foreshadowing to her being stuck in the void... Also the fact that she carries a sword and the fic title "Sword of Akasha" is literally just me making a Code Geass reference for funsies.

Seye I got from browsing a couple of Yoruba baby name websites and comparing the different interpretations of the names the sounded most pleasing to me. I remember I was looking for names which meant "Heir" or "Prince" or "Chosen One" but Seye, which means "Honor" had the winning combination of sounding the most pleasing in my head and also being memorable and easy to spell while still being distinctly Yoruba. Also it had the bonus of the little "ey" sound at the end so it kind of seemed diminutive in comparison to "Akande."

Rajeev and Samir got their names from baby name websites--and it was important to me that you had a little assonance in their names. I wanted a bit of a reversal since their moms are Egyptian and Indian--so Rajeev, who takes more after Pharah, got the Indian name, and Samir, who takes more after Symmetra, got the Arabic name... so you have a bit of a switcharoo there but there's also kind of an audio association with their respective moms' names--the "rah" sounds with Rajeev and Pharah and the "Sm" sounds with Samir and Symmetra.

With Andrea, it was pretty funny because I had all these people pouring into my inbox with name suggestions, but I wanted a name that would sound natural in Spanish, but was also common enough to be American. And Andrea means "Of Man" which y'know... she has two daddies.

"Aidan" or "Aiden" is the more common spelling of Aedan's name, but I went with "Aedan" because Aed is the Irish god of the Underworld and Moira's Goth AF.

Faustine is Faustine because Obvious Reference to Goethe's Faust is Obvious... but also it's a name that means "lucky" and she's associated with Monaco and Casinos and money.

I think like... the auditory element of my naming process is kind of hard to describe and boils down to 'vibes' a lot. Like I already tend to "hear" my writing as I'm writing it, so a lot of it is determined by "yeah this sounds right."

When it comes to my OG OC's, Val and Aria, I was 17 and very adamant that Aria was Welsh, because if she was Irish, that would make her a self-insert--so I went with "Arianwen" which means "Silver Fair" and Aria for short and this was years before I was remotely aware of Arya Stark. I know it's a common name but honestly it suits her. It feels like her, and that's what's most important.

As for Val, his full name is "Valendin Dard Felov"--which I think I grabbed from some websites on Chechen names that I've long since forgotten--but his middle name "Dard" I stole from my Indian music professor in college, Dard Neuman. Dard is a Greek name that means "Son of Zeus" but in Hindu it means "Pain of Separation." Also the last name "Felov" was a bit of a pun because my boy Val GOES THROUGH IT and I was like "heheheh he 'Fell Off.'" I was developing Val along with a lot of my worldbuilding--I was really obsessed with him being from a mountain based culture so I was taking elements from Andean and Himalayan cultures, and I gave him a Chechen name because... Caucasus. So really it's a combination of like, the kind of everyman, melodious name of Val, and a longer name that kind of ties into the worldbuilding and his own story.

When it comes to making up names, my advice is to run your made up names through google or google translate.

So in summary, the NiteWrighter Patented Method For Naming Your Characters:

1. Who do you have already named and how will that name fit in among those names?

2. What is their backstory and what conditions might influence their naming?

3. How will the name fit in among the fictional world you're working with?

4. Does it sound right--is it memorable? Can it have variations in address and still be recognizable? Do you look at the character and go, "yeah that's _______"

5. Do you just think it's neat?

6. Pace around your house. Consult the wind. Feeeeel the vibes. But also don't overthink it. But also do. This is very important.

7. Do you know someone with a cool name whose name you can just fucking steal? Like the Fae?

8. Baby name websites, I guess.
